- After Being Forced Into a Facial Paralysis, the Villain Said I’m Such a Drama Queen
- Chapter 18 - Is This a Princess Carry?
For some reason, Lu Wanxing, who had originally been somewhat worried, felt an inexplicable urge to laugh upon seeing her like this. She felt that behind Sheng Xia’s expressionless face lay an uncontainable embarrassment.
With her exceptional vision, Sheng Xia also caught the hint of a smile on Lu Wanxing’s lips. She then looked expressionlessly at Li Cui’e and the police officers who had just entered.
Upon seeing them arrive, Li Cui’e immediately opened fire, her gaze toward Sheng Xia filled with resentment. “Officer, you’ve come at just the right time. This unfilial daughter actually splashed me with hot water just now!”
“I don’t know which wild man she’s been learning bad things from out there, but she won’t even recognize her own mother anymore. She’s nothing but a little b*tch.” The stinging pain in her hand made Li Cui’e lose all verbal restraint.
Had she spoken calmly, she might have garnered some sympathy, but these words caused the arriving officers to frown instantly.
When they saw Sheng Xia, they were even more surprised. Heavens, how is it this young girl again? First kidnapped, then mugged, and now facing violence from her biological mother to the point that a neighbor had to call the police.
Recalling the girl’s dejected expression when she previously mentioned her parents, and comparing it to the somewhat distorted and ferocious face of Li Cui’e before them, the officers felt their hearts leaning toward Sheng Xia.
“Are you the one who reported this?” One officer noticed Sheng Xia sitting blankly on the floor like a puppet without any expression. Thinking she had suffered psychological trauma and chosen to shut down, his tone subconsciously softened.
Fortunately, the situation wasn’t as dire as he feared. Hearing the voice, Sheng Xia looked at the man before her, then cast a glance at Li Cui’e and instinctively shrank back. Her voice was somewhat choked. “It wasn’t me.”
“But Officer, can you help me?”
“I’m afraid she’ll drag me back again and won’t let me take my exams.”
Sheng Xia pursed her lips. Knowing Lu Wanxing was right there watching her made her feel awkward, as if her acting skills were jammed and she couldn’t perform.
This is so ridiculous. I feel like I’m being seen through.
For a moment, Sheng Xia fell silent again. Just as she gathered her thoughts and prepared to stand up to resolve the matter at the police station, Lu Wanxing’s voice drifted over.
“Officer Li.”
“I suspect Xiao Xia might be in shock. Why don’t you let me talk to her?”
The room was quite small, and Lu Wanxing’s wheelchair couldn’t fit through. Officer Li had no choice but to take Li Cui’e out first, but Li Cui’e refused to budge, making a scene because she wanted Sheng Xia arrested.
Lu Wanxing sat with a straight back, looking up slightly at Li Cui’e. “Ma’am, could you please lower your voice?” Her voice was cool and composed; although she didn’t speak loudly, Li Cui’e’s volume instinctively dropped.
Realizing she had shown weakness, Li Cui’e instinctively wanted to curse at the “cripple” for meddling, but upon meeting Lu Wanxing’s eyes, she felt as if her throat were being squeezed, rendering her speechless.
Though she lacked social grace, Li Cui’e recognized that the aura Lu Wanxing possessed was something she had never seen in anyone around her.
They belonged to different social strata; Li Cui’e possessed at least that much self-awareness.
Seeing that Li Cui’e had become tactful, Lu Wanxing withdrew her gaze. With a slight movement of her hands, she maneuvered to Sheng Xia’s side.
“Are you alright?” She took out a small wet wipe and meticulously wiped away the bloodstain running down Sheng Xia’s face.
Regardless of whether Sheng Xia’s fear was genuine or an act, the wound was real.
Lu Wanxing had received news the moment Li Cui’e arrived in the vicinity. Originally, she hadn’t intended to interfere, but when the Old Lady heard about it, she was frantically determined to come and back Sheng Xia up. Lu Wanxing had naturally stopped her.
If the Old Lady had actually come, she feared Li Cui’e’s mouth would have been torn apart.
Feeling Lu Wanxing’s touch through the wet wipe, Sheng Xia felt uncomfortable, and her eyelashes fluttered.
“Hiss…” Because she was lost in thought, Lu Wanxing’s handkerchief had nearly slipped into Sheng Xia’s collar, forcing her to speak up.
The cut was about two centimeters long, and fresh blood had flowed down to her chin. Now, with Sheng Xia’s head slightly turned, her smooth jawline made her face appear even smaller.
Her lips were a translucent pink, slightly pursed and looking somewhat cold a far cry from the ease and smiles she displayed when talking to others.
Lu Wanxing didn’t mind. She offered a soft apology and asked in a comforting tone, “What happened just now?”
Even though Lu Wanxing’s presence made Sheng Xia feel unnatural, she suppressed that slight strangeness at the thought of dealing with Li Cui’e. Taking the opening provided, she said, “My mother said she regretted only burning my leg before. She wanted to ruin this face of mine to see if I could still fool around outside.”
The calm tone and the look of utter despair in her eyes made the statement shockingly suffocating.
Li Cui’e hadn’t expected Sheng Xia to turn the tables on her. She spat on the ground and shouted, “Fine! You’ve learned how to lie out there! You were the one who splashed hot water on my hand!”
“Officer, you have to believe me! She’s been a liar since she was a child. She’s been with who-knows-how-many people; she’s rotten to the core!”
Lu Wanxing noticed that Li Cui’e’s expression had been unnatural at first. Recalling that the woman was holding a kettle when the police opened the door, she asked, “What were you planning to do if we hadn’t entered?”
“What could I do? I’m her mother, what could I possibly do?!” Toward the end of her sentence, Li Cui’e didn’t want to talk anymore and turned to leave, only to be grabbed by Li Sheng.
“I’m sorry, but you can’t leave yet. Come back to the station with me.” Seeing that Sheng Xia’s emotions had stabilized, Li Sheng prepared to take the woman away, then asked Lu Wanxing to help bring the girl along.
Perhaps because she harbored a guilty conscience and feared being found out, Li Cui’e’s mood soured even further at the prospect of going to the police station. She shot Sheng Xia a vicious glare and spat on the floor again.
It happened to be right in the path where Lu Wanxing would exit. Along with the phlegm she had spat earlier, Lu Wanxing would have to roll through it regardless of which way she went. It was a deliberate attempt to disgust her.
Li Cui’e even stood stubbornly to one side. “Why am I the only one going? They should come too!”
Lu Wanxing’s expression remained indifferent. She was about to turn her wheelchair to leave when she was grabbed by a hand.
“Don’t go over there, it’s dirty.”
“I’ll carry you across.” Upon hearing this, the female officer nearby began to wonder if Sheng Xia was going to give Lu Wanxing a princess carry. After all, she had discovered during the previous statement that Sheng Xia possessed significant strength.
Meanwhile, Lu Wanxing was wondering if Sheng Xia was going to pin Li Cui’e to the ground and then roll the wheelchair right over her. After all, Sheng Xia was not as easy to bully as she appeared on the surface.
But considering there were so many people around, it probably wouldn’t come to that. Just as she dismissed the thought, Lu Wanxing heard the female officer’s inner voice.
Female Officer: A princess carry? Really? Is it really happening?
Lu Wanxing’s eyelids drooped slightly. She turned her head to look at Sheng Xia and agreed: “Then I’ll trouble you.” She wanted to use the physical proximity to verify once and for all whether she could hear Sheng Xia’s inner thoughts.
Since her car accident, Lu Wanxing had suddenly gained the ability to hear the hearts of others. If the other person lacked a guard, she didn’t even need to be close to hear everything they were thinking. For those with more meticulous minds, she could still gain insights by getting closer.
Lu Wanxing was already formidable; though she couldn’t walk due to the accident, others didn’t dare do anything to her openly and could only monitor her in secret. Mind-reading had saved Lu Wanxing a great deal of trouble. With this ability, she had swiftly uprooted every mole in the Lu family and gathered dirt on many people.
In all these years, her mind-reading had never failed. Even a well-trained assassin couldn’t guarantee their mind would remain a total blank. Yet, with Sheng Xia, Lu Wanxing had gained nothing.
Even during this first instance of active proximity, she failed to capture a single piece of information. Furthermore, Sheng Xia had inadvertently sabotaged her plans during their first encounter enough to earn Lu Wanxing’s serious attention.
If she didn’t understand and gain control over such an exception, Lu Wanxing wouldn’t be able to rest easy. Just as she was about to take measures, she discovered the girl actually knew the Old Lady, and their relationship seemed quite good.
Now was indeed an excellent opportunity for another test.
In those few seconds, Lu Wanxing had mentally prepared herself for intimate contact with Sheng Xia. However, when the girl took action, Lu Wanxing instinctively gripped the armrests.
It wasn’t out of fear, but simply the physical reflex of leaning back due to inertia.
Sheng Xia placed her hands on Lu Wanxing’s wheelchair and, with a sudden burst of strength, lifted both the person and the wheelchair into the air. In an instant, her field of vision surged upward. Lu Wanxing’s eyelashes trembled as she fought to keep her emotions steady.
Officer Li and the others were also stunned by this maneuver. With Lu Wanxing backlit by the light, the moment she was lifted up, she looked like a Bodhisattva delivering all living beings from suffering.
Lu Wanxing: “…”
She thought she would never know the feeling of shame in this life, nor would she ever again feel such a strong urge to hit someone.
Very well, you blockhead. You’re finished.
