- Chapter 44 [World 3:The Mediocre Beta] - Lips pressed against...
Bam!
There was a sharp cracking sound. An ashtray fell from a man’s head and clattered onto the floor.
It bounced a few times before stopping at Lin Qian’s feet.
Lin Qian seemed surprised that Xian Ning would do such a thing. He looked at her with a dazed expression.
Xian Ning’s hands were clenched tightly. One hand was gripping the edge of the sofa to keep herself steady.
Her nails dug into her flesh, and the pain in her palms helped her stay somewhat lucid.
The man who was hit froze for a few seconds before letting out a bloodcurdling scream. His eyes looked at Xian Ning with a fierce glare, as if he wanted to devour her alive.
“You b****! You dare hit me!”
Before he could finish, he lunged at her. Xian Ning was too weak to defend herself. He grabbed her by the throat, and it became harder and harder for her to breathe.
Xian Ning wanted to ask Lin Qian for help, but the moment she looked into his eyes, she understood.
This man would never save her.
He was like a bystander, watching everything unfold with a cold indifference. A hint of interest appeared in his detached eyes.
Yes, he found it amusing.
Xian Ning knew he had always treated the original host as a plaything to alleviate his boredom, but experiencing it firsthand felt disgusting.
The man who was hit by the ashtray was becoming frenzied. As his grip on Xian Ning’s neck tightened, his body began to tremble slightly.
Xian Ning knew he wasn’t trembling in fear, but from excitement.
A living, breathing person was on the brink of death in his hands, and he was excited!
Cheng Ming had been pampered his entire life. This was the first time he had been publicly humiliated. A surge of anger rushed to his head, leaving little room for reason.
The neck in his hand was slender and delicate, as if a little more force would snap it…
She was just a dog raised by the Lin family. If she died, she died. He would just give her family a little money. In this world, there was nothing that money and power couldn’t solve.
Especially for the low-life commoners from the lower district; a little money would be enough to get rid of them.
Thinking this, Cheng Ming’s eyes became even more fervent, filled with anticipation for what was about to happen.
Lin Qian hadn’t expected Cheng Ming to be so crazy. After watching long enough, he was about to step in and stop him when a sharp shriek suddenly rang out. A woman’s voice came through the microphone.
“Sir in the booth over there, are you going to kill someone in broad daylight?”
Before this, only a small number of people were paying attention to what was happening. Now, everyone followed the woman’s gaze. The music stopped at the perfect moment, and the silence was so sudden it felt as if time had stopped.
Lin Qian said calmly, “Cheng Ming, let go.”
The whispers and murmurs around them grew louder. Only then did Cheng Ming let go. He wiped the blood from his forehead, but the killing intent in his eyes hadn’t completely disappeared.
Xian Ning collapsed to the ground, dizzy and disoriented, held together only by her willpower.
If no one helped her, she wouldn’t be able to get out of here on her own.
For some reason, she looked toward the stage and faintly met a pair of eyes.
Was that the girl who had spoken up for her?
Xian Ning didn’t know.
And why she felt that this person could help her, she didn’t know either. It was just a strange, inexplicable intuition.
She was surrounded by people, countless eyes staring at her, but among them, there was one pair of eyes that had a particularly strong presence, one that she couldn’t ignore.
Now that their eyes had met, she couldn’t make out what kind of look was in them, but she knew that her anxiety had lessened considerably.
It was strange. Even though this was their first meeting, the feeling of a pre-existing connection was incredibly strong.
The girl who had spoken threw the microphone to the DJ beside her. She took a few steps and jumped down from the stage, striding toward them.
Everyone moved out of her way, and she quickly reached Xian Ning.
Xian Ning’s fingers dug into the ground. Her nails hurt, but her consciousness was steadily fading.
Someone knelt down in front of her, put a jacket over her, and blocked the malicious stares.
“How could you lay your hands on such a beautiful woman? You’re worse than an animal.”
Cheng Ming gnashed his teeth in anger, but he couldn’t do anything to Lu Yao.
This was the Lu family’s princess, who was loved and doted on by everyone. Who would dare mess with her?
Lu Yao turned to look at Lin Qian and sighed, her tone unreadable.
“Lin Qian, you should be careful. Don’t just let rabid dogs run wild and bite people.”
With that, Lu Yao ignored Cheng Ming’s dark face, picked up Xian Ning, and walked away.
The DJ on stage whistled, and many people began to jeer. Lu Yao ignored them and walked steadily out of the bar with Xian Ning in her arms.
The night wind blew, and Xian Ning felt a little more awake, but her eyelids were as heavy as lead and she couldn’t open them.
“This is for you. You owe me one.”
“You have to help me with the engagement, or I’ll really make a fuss.”
“You saw how disgusting Cheng Ming is. I’d rather die than marry him.”
“Let’s go…”
Xian Ning felt herself being transferred from one warm embrace to another. This one was softer and had a faint scent of roses, which was pleasant and comforting.
She instinctively snuggled deeper into the embrace and fell asleep peacefully.
The girl looked down at the person sleeping soundly in her arms, her expression slowly growing more complicated.
Although they weren’t from the same school, she had heard of a girl who was always pestering Lin Qian. She was dragged here to see her “rival in love,” and she hadn’t expected this to happen.
No matter how annoying the person was, she shouldn’t be treated like this.
But what if she liked being treated this way? Was she meddling in something that wasn’t her business?
Lu Yao looked at Xian Ning’s face. Her heart, once again, was beating uncontrollably. With such a pitiful, beautiful face, who could be indifferent?
Forget it. She would just take her to a safe place and leave. She probably wouldn’t find out.
“I hope that after this, you’ll let go of your obsession with Lin Qian. Otherwise, more unpredictable things will happen in the future,” Lu Yao said to herself.
******
The door of a luxury sedan opened on the side of the road. The driver walked up to Lu Yao and said respectfully, “Young Mistress, shall we go back now?”
Lu Yao thought for a moment and said calmly, “Take me to a hotel first.”
The driver glanced at Xian Ning in her arms, his expression unchanging. He quickly opened the car door.
Xian Ning was taken out of the warm and soft embrace. The scent of roses on her nose gradually faded. She frowned in dissatisfaction and reached out, pulling the person in front of her into her arms.
“Where are you going?”
Lu Yao froze for a few seconds before looking up at her. Her eyes were closed, and there was no sign of her waking up, but her grip was strong, holding on to her tightly.
“Don’t push your luck. I already saved you…”
Xian Ning reached out and pressed the back of her head, burying her completely in her arms, then fell back to sleep contentedly.
Lu Yao: “…”
What is wrong with this person?!
Lu Yao tried to get out of her embrace, but she couldn’t break free.
Wasn’t she a beta? Why was she so strong?!
“Hey! Let go!”
Xian Ning was sound asleep and couldn’t hear a word she said. She just felt like she had a soft, cloud-like pillow in her arms, and she felt incredibly safe.
The room door opened, and Lu Tiaotiao walked in and yelled.
“Sis, sis! Lu Yao!”
Lu Yao panicked and pushed Xian Ning even harder, but Xian Ning rolled over, pulling her into the blankets and hugging her tightly.
Lu Tiaotiao walked in and saw the two of them in an overly intimate embrace. Her expression shifted a few times, and a very wicked smile appeared on her face.
“No wonder you wanted me to save her. So this is why…”
Lu Yao was speechless. “Don’t get the wrong idea. Hurry up and help me get her off me.”
Lu Tiaotiao took out her phone, took a few pictures from different angles, then left, her face filled with satisfaction.
“Sis, you’ve been single your whole life. You should take this chance to experience everything you can. I’ll keep your secret.”
“I hope you have a hot night. I’m leaving!”
Lu Yao was furious. “What hot night?! I’m not thinking about that! Hurry up and get her off me!”
Lu Tiaotiao stopped at the door, her eyebrows raised provocatively. Her actions said more than her words ever could.
“Hey! Lu Tiaotiao, get back here!”
The only response was the sound of the door closing.
Lu Yao sighed. She looked down at the hands tightly wrapped around her waist, a sense of powerlessness washing over her.
She was tired. She was so tired.
She turned her head unconsciously, and her lips touched something soft…
What did she just touch?!
Lu Yao used all her strength to pull away, her heart pounding like it was about to jump out of her throat.
Why was she so close?!
While she was complaining to herself, Xian Ning noticed her moving away. She moved closer in dissatisfaction, and their lips crashed together.
Lu Yao: “?!!!”
