- Chapter 71 EXTRA STORY 2 - Extra Story 2: Living Together (Part One)
This was the third time that week Tan Shiyi had been followed and staked out by obsessive fans.
The culprits were a few young women. They hadn’t done anything overtly aggressive, but the moment Tan Shiyi stepped out of her building, they pointed their cameras at her and began snapping away frantically—it was suffocating.
There was no such thing as privacy.
The apartment complex at Sakura Garden was old, and its security was terrible. Outsiders could drive in and out freely. Even though she’d already reported it to property management several times, supervision remained lax.
By the time Tan Shiyi reached the company that morning, the photos taken of her had already been posted online. Though the backgrounds were blurred, Tang Ling immediately recognized where they’d been shot—it was right inside Tan Shiyi’s residential compound.
She pulled Tan Shiyi into a quiet cubicle and lowered her voice.
“Do you know you’ve been secretly photographed?”
Tan Shiyi lowered her head. “I know. To be exact, it wasn’t even secret—they took the pictures right in front of me.”
Tang Ling frowned. “That blatant? And you just let them? Did you call the police?”
“I did last time,” Tan Shiyi said softly. “The police came and took a statement, but they said they couldn’t open a case for something like this. They only advised me to move somewhere with better security.”
Tang Ling caught the key word. “Last time? How many times has this happened?”
Tan Shiyi couldn’t even remember anymore. She didn’t dare tell Tang Ling the full truth, so she answered vaguely, “Not that many times. I’ve already applied to Sister Xi to move to a different dorm. It should be approved soon—you don’t have to worry.”
“I don’t have to worry?” Tang Ling’s voice rose in disbelief. “They’re already waiting outside your home, and you expect me not to worry? Why didn’t you tell me sooner? Do you think I’m just your decoration of a girlfriend?”
Tan Shiyi hurried to explain. “I don’t. I just thought it was a small matter I could handle myself. I didn’t want you to worry or let it affect your work. You’re already so tired.”
Tang Ling cut her off. “A small matter? They’re squatting downstairs now—what if next time they manage to get inside? What if something actually happens to you? What am I supposed to do then?”
Knowing Tang Ling was truly angry, Tan Shiyi quickly reached out to soothe her.
“Nothing’s happened yet, has it? I’m sorry. I won’t do this again. From now on, I’ll tell you about everything right away, okay?”
Tang Ling wanted to scold her further, but seeing how contrite Tan Shiyi looked, she couldn’t bear to be harsh.
“Fine. But from now on, don’t ever hide things from me again, understood?”
Tan Shiyi nodded obediently. “Okay. Don’t be mad.”
Tang Ling gently patted her head. “Alright then. Let’s get back to work. I’ll take you out for something good tonight.”
But after something like this, Tang Ling certainly wasn’t going to just let it go. During lunch break, she went straight to knock on Bai Xi’s office door.
Bai Xi was on the phone. Seeing Tang Ling come in, she pressed her temples and quickly ended the call. “Work again? Alright, I’ll call you back later.”
She turned to Tang Ling. “What’s going on? Why the rush?”
Tang Ling didn’t waste words. “Sister Xi, I heard that Shiyi’s applied to you for a dorm transfer, right? When can it be approved?”
“The company dorms are tight,” Bai Xi said. “I’m already looking into suitable housing for her. The place she’s living in now was arranged by Fangyu Entertainment before she transferred here, so there’s some paperwork to go through. It should just be a few more days. Did something happen?”
“Sister Xi, do you know that obsessive fans have been staking out where Shiyi lives? And not just once or twice.”
Bai Xi froze, then her expression turned anxious. “When did this start? She didn’t tell me! She just said she wanted to move, so I didn’t process it urgently.”
Tang Ling had already guessed as much. Her tone stayed sharp.
“She came to you asking to move, and you couldn’t even ask her why? Shiyi’s not the type to trouble others for no reason. If she went that far, it means something serious must’ve happened.”
Bai Xi blinked, taken aback. “Are you blaming me now?”
Tang Ling exhaled in frustration. “I’m not blaming you—I’m blaming myself. I’m with her every day and still didn’t realize she was living in danger.”
Bai Xi was speechless for a moment. “Alright. Since you’ve come to me, you must have something in mind. What do you want to do?”
Tang Ling smiled faintly. “Sister Xi, you’re a smart woman—you know the situation. Before the new place is arranged, I want to take her home with me.”
Bai Xi paused. That much, she could accept—given the current situation, Tan Shiyi’s safety came first.
But before she could respond, Tang Ling continued,
“And once the new place is ready, I plan to move in with her.”
Bai Xi : “!!!”
Bai Xi nearly dropped her pen.
“No. Absolutely not. You’re saying you want to live together permanently?”
Tang Ling countered calmly, “She’s my girlfriend. Why shouldn’t we live together?”
Bai Xi stood firm. “No means no. Don’t be so headstrong. Listen to me, dear—keeping some distance between lovers is healthy. It helps maintain a sense of freshness. That’s what keeps love lasting.”
Tang Ling disagreed without hesitation. “If that’s true, then no one should ever get married. I came to inform you out of courtesy—if you approve, great. If not, I’ll just buy her a place myself. Either way, I’m not letting her stay somewhere unsafe.”
Bai Xi nearly fainted from exasperation. “You really don’t listen, do you? Fine—do whatever you want. I’ll still handle the dorm allocation as planned. How you two live afterward is your business—but remember your limits. Think about your future before you act.”
Tang Ling saw that Bai Xi had finally relented, so she softened her tone as well. “Neither Shiyi nor I are the kind of people who let distractions ruin us—especially Shiyi. She’s always known her limits. What happened today, I did purely
out of concern for her safety. If I’ve overstepped in any way, I hope you can forgive me.”
Bai Xi thought to herself that she’d already been offended half to death, yet somehow, she was still the one who had to be understanding. She waved her hand dismissively. “As long as you two have thought it through. Once you’ve made a decision, let me know on WeChat so I can arrange for a car to pick you up.”
Tang Ling bowed slightly to her. “Thank you, Sister Xi.”
That evening, after a full day of work, the girls changed out of their stage clothes, ready to clock out and head home.
Tang Ling leaned close to Tan Shiyi. “Come on, I’m taking you out for something delicious.”
Du Zhen, standing nearby, whistled. “Yo, off on another date already?”
Their relationship wasn’t much of a secret within the team. Since they were in the same group and had grown up side by side, neither of them felt there was anything worth hiding.
Tang Ling simply wrapped an arm around Tan Shiyi’s shoulders. “Just a normal couple’s outing—don’t be jealous.”
“What’s the point of being jealous? It’s not like it’ll help me,” Du Zhen sighed. “Guess I’ll just go home and play games.”
Once the two of them got into the car, Tan Shiyi asked, “So where are we going today?”
Tang Ling smiled mysteriously. “You’ll see soon enough.”
As the car turned onto a familiar road, even Tan Shiyi couldn’t pretend not to notice. “You’re taking me to your house?”
Tang Ling raised an eyebrow. “What, is that not allowed?”
Tan Shiyi fidgeted slightly. “It’s not that it’s not allowed, it’s just—I didn’t prepare anything.”
She’d always been particular about manners, and visiting Tang Ling’s home without bringing something felt improper.
Tang Ling teased, “If you buy something every time you come over, and I ask you to stay long-term, won’t you go bankrupt?”
Tan Shiyi froze, and after connecting it to what had happened earlier that day, quickly understood what she meant. “I can’t stay at your place—it’d be too much trouble for you and your family.”
“Trouble for who? Not me. If anything, it’ll save a lot of people trouble—like your neighborhood security guards, or the local police.”
Tan Shiyi’s face flushed pink. “You’re still mad I didn’t tell you, aren’t you? You’re so petty.”
“When it comes to your safety, I am petty,” Tang Ling said righteously. “Don’t worry, I already spoke to Sister Xi in advance, and my mom’s thrilled you’re coming. You don’t have to worry about a thing—just bring yourself and move in.”
“You told Sister Xi? She wasn’t mad? Didn’t she scold you?”
Tang Ling sighed, brushing a few strands of hair away from Tan Shiyi’s forehead. “Wife, could you maybe think about yourself first when something happens? You know what Sister Xi’s like—she grumbled a bit, but nothing serious. It doesn’t matter. Nothing matters more than keeping you safe.”
Tan Shiyi ducked her head shyly. “It’s really not a big deal. They’re just a few young girls. I could have talked some sense into them.”
Tang Ling snorted. “Talk sense? If they could be reasoned with, they wouldn’t be stalking you in the first place.” She gave a helpless laugh. “Come on then, suppose I’ve decided to violate you right now—try talking sense into me and see if it works.”
Tan Shiyi’s face turned scarlet. She mumbled softly, almost inaudibly, “If you’re going to violate me, then I don’t really have any arguments left to make.”
Tang Ling blinked, taken aback, and her own cheeks flushed as well. Trying to cover her embarrassment, she put on a mock-threatening tone. “Fine. Can’t come up with a defense, huh? Then just wait till we get home—I’ll show you how I deal with you.”
Tan Shiyi quickly leaned in and covered her mouth. “Keep your voice down.”
Out of the corner of her eye, she glanced at the driver, signaling Tang Ling not to say anything reckless.
Tang Ling gave her a pointed look, then tapped her own cheek.
With no other choice, Tan Shiyi leaned over and gave her a quick peck.
The air in the car turned soft and warm. Tang Ling leaned close to her ear, her voice low and teasing. “Wife, why are you so obedient? You’re too easy to trick—how am I supposed to feel at ease letting you out of my sight?”
Tan Shiyi’s heart fluttered wildly at the warmth of her breath. She lowered her head, whispering, “Because it’s you—that’s the only reason I let myself be tricked.”
