After Being Adopted by the Obsessive Male Lead - Chapter 16
“Noisy,” Jun Wang said, casually rubbing his ear to show the young master that Chang Feng was truly annoying. That big mouth of his did nothing but spout things people didn’t want to hear. “He might come back, so don’t worry about being stuck. Even if he doesn’t, this secret realm can’t keep us trapped.”
“But he said he would help us pick the Streamer Flowers,” Chang Le replied, not quite agreeing with the Great Demon’s methods.
Jun Wang stared deeply at the young master’s expression, wondering just how much he actually wanted to stay at the Tianxuan Sect. “Do you want to take him as your master?”
Chang Le hesitated. Staying at the Tianxuan Sect would allow him to stay in contact with Chu Heng, but he didn’t feel comfortable leaving the Great Demon and Qiu He alone together. After a few heartbeats, Chang Le finally spoke, “No.”
That hesitation had lasted quite a while. Jun Wang’s gaze darkened, and his face became completely void of expression. He took the Scent-Tracking Mirror from Chang Le’s hand. The surface glowed with a ghostly blue light, revealing a secluded valley and a red path leading toward it. “Let’s go,” he said.
His tone was somewhat cold.
Chang Le was keen enough to sense that the Great Demon was unhappy. Is it because I didn’t stay at the Tianxuan Sect to let him continue being a third wheel? Well, he’d better get used to being unhappy, because Chang Le was a third wheel dedicated to breaking up couples!
They walked in silence. When they reached the secluded valley, the first thing to greet them was a valley full of fireflies, scattered across the grass like stars fallen to earth. In the center of the valley sat a clear spring with a mound of earth rising from the middle. Atop the mound grew a blue Streamer Flower, its leaves trailing into the water and making that spot glow with exceptional brightness.
Jun Wang plucked it.
The next stalk was located on a cliff face.
“Stay here,” Jun Wang instructed.
The journey was long, and the young master’s stamina might not keep up. This valley had beautiful scenery, making it a good place to rest, and it was quite hidden.
Afraid of being a burden, Chang Le agreed and found a tree stump to sit on. The sky inside the secret realm mirrored the world outside, so it was still light for now, though the valley itself was somewhat dim. Chang Le suddenly remembered that tonight was a full moon. He stood up immediately and called out to Jun Wang’s tall, departing figure, “Brother Jun, make sure to come back before dark. I’ll wait for you here.”
His voice startled the fireflies resting nearby.
Jun Wang turned back. The young master’s small figure was half-hidden behind the flickering points of light. Dressed in azure, with his exquisite features, he looked like a spirit born from the valley itself. Jun Wang’s eyes flickered with a strange emotion. He gave a distant nod, and then his figure vanished at the valley’s entrance.
Chang Le waited in the valley for a long time. The “stars” on the ground grew brighter and brighter, and his anxiety rose along with them. Seeing the sky turn pitch black, he couldn’t wait any longer and ran out of the valley, only to crash right into Jun Wang’s chest at the entrance.
Jun Wang caught the young master who had “proactively” thrown himself into his arms. “I’m back. No need to worry.”
Chang Le’s palms were pressed against the Great Demon’s chest. The firm, solid sensation made him wonder if the man had been working out behind his back. Why did he feel even broader than before? He wanted pecs like those too. Once he found a way back home, he was definitely signing up for a gym membership!
Chang Le pushed him away. “It’s good that you’re back. Do you feel… unwell at all?”
Chang Le had never seen Jun Wang’s poison take effect, so he didn’t know what to expect.
Jun Wang shook his head, looking down intently at the way the boy was worrying over him. He noticed the tip of the young master’s nose was slightly red. He instinctively took Chang Le’s hand, and sure enough, it was ice cold. It was simply because the valley was too chilly at night.
The movement was sudden. Chang Le’s hands were enveloped by the Great Demon’s palms. He froze, a flush of embarrassment creeping uncontrollably onto his cheeks. This felt way too much like a young couple warming their hands together!
“What are you… doing?” His voice carried a hint of a reprimand born from his embarrassment.
Jun Wang’s hands stiffened for a second, but he soon tightened his grip on Chang Le’s hands. “It’s too cold here, we should leave quickly.” He spoke with total composure, not letting go in the slightest.
No, if it’s cold, why do you have to hold my hands? Does he think I walk too slowly?
It didn’t feel right for two men to be walking like this. Chang Le tried to pull his hands away once as they walked, but he couldn’t get free. Instead, the grip tightened. Jun Wang practiced both boxing and swordplay, so his fingertips had rough calluses. Usually, they weren’t noticeable, but the moment Chang Le tried to pull away, the Great Demon would squeeze tighter, the friction reddening the back of Chang Le’s hand like a punishment. Chang Le eventually gave up the struggle and even started walking faster. Sensing this, the pressure relaxed.
He followed the Great Demon toward the exit of the secret realm. His hands grew warm from the contact along the way. It wasn’t cold anymore, but it was certainly embarrassing!
When they reached the exit, they found a figure standing there. It looked like someone who had been waiting for a long time. And it wasn’t Elder Chang Feng.
When the figure turned around, Chang Le’s eyes widened in shock. The person was wearing a green ghost mask! The person in black robes who had pushed him off the cliff wore the exact same mask!
Chang Le stopped in his tracks, the trauma of falling off the cliff forcing him to step back.
“Why is he here?” Chang Le whispered, becoming more certain that this person’s build matched the one who had appeared at Kui Mountain. Had this person transmigrated into the book along with him? Terror filled his heart, and he squeezed Jun Wang’s hand back tightly.
Jun Wang looked over and saw that the young master’s refined face was completely drained of color. Frowning, he reached out an arm to pull the boy close. “Don’t worry.”
Chang Le was still in the throes of fear and didn’t even notice the hand on his shoulder. He just looked at Jun Wang and emphasized, “That person is a bad man.”
Jun Wang turned toward the figure at the entrance, killing intent spilling from his eyes. Golden spiritual energy began to gather at his fingertips, but it vanished almost instantly!
The sky of the secret realm, matching the world outside, saw the heavy dark clouds disperse to reveal a bright, full moon. The moonlight was clear, but also chillingly cold. Chang Le had a gut feeling that something was about to happen. In the next instant, the poison in Jun Wang’s system flared up, and he collapsed right in front of him.
Crap, we’re dead.
