- After Being Adopted by the Obsessive Male Lead
- Chapter 15 - Why Are There So Many Cut-Sleeves?
Chang Le was pulled back to the competition grounds by Jun Wang. The area was still crowded with disciples from various sects, but this time, the way they looked at Jun Wang had changed. Wherever Jun Wang passed, the crowd instinctively parted to give him a wide berth.
It wasn’t like this when they first arrived. What happened?
Chang Le was confused, but he soon learned the reason.
On the competition stage, the Great Demon fought with brutal ruthlessness. While the sect disciples used elegant, refined techniques, the Great Demon fought without any discernable form. No one could read his moves, and their spiritual power was no match for him. Despite his superb footwork, he seemed to prefer blunt force, using his hands and feet to chop and kick, leaving his opponents with broken bones and agonizing pain.
Chang Le watched as seven consecutive cultivators waved the flag of surrender. This group included two disciples from Yuanyao Palace and Shuo Yanfang of the Beast Taming Sect.
Shuo Yanfang had held out longer than most. His massive Fire Lion, radiating scorching heat, lunged at Jun Wang, yet Jun Wang managed to dodge every strike. In the blink of an eye, Jun Wang reached Shuo Yanfang and delivered a high kick that sent him flying several meters off the stage.
Even though Chang Le had some idea of Jun Wang’s strength, he couldn’t help but be stunned. Making the top ten was, for this man, incredibly easy.
“Brother Jun, now that we’ve made the top ten, can we stop competing? Let’s just ask the Tianxuan Sect elders for the Streamer Flowers directly,” Chang Le suggested. He was genuinely afraid that the Great Demon’s flamboyant display would draw unwanted attention.
“If you don’t want to stay here longer, then so be it,” Jun Wang replied, his voice softening. “There isn’t much point in fighting them anyway.”
Chang Le shot him a surprised look. Why is he suddenly acting so reasonable? But regardless, he was glad Jun Wang had agreed.
Chang Le pulled Jun Wang along to find a Tianxuan Sect elder to state their intentions. Elder Jing Xian, his white robes snapping as he moved, scolded them with displeasure, “You want to take your reward early? On what grounds?”
“On the grounds of the desire to save others, a heart every cultivator should possess.”
Jing Xian choked on his words. The reasoning was sound, but he loathed those who disregarded rules. He refused to convey Chang Le’s intent to the Sect Master. “No. You will wait patiently for the competition to end like everyone else.”
“Elder Jing Xian, why bother making things difficult for the younger generation?” A clear, resonant voice cut through the air.
Chang Le looked toward the source and could hardly believe his eyes. He saw the vendor from the street stall, the one with the cloth over his eyes. Although his eyes were covered, his gait was entirely unimpeded. He even accurately located where Chang Le was standing, nodding with a smile. “Little fellow Daoist, we meet again.”
He isn’t blind!
“Since they’ve already made the top ten, asking for the Streamer Flowers is hardly an unreasonable request. I’ll take you there.”
Chang Le noticed that this man’s robes were identical to those of the other Tianxuan Sect elders. He is an elder, too!
“Elder Chang Feng, do not meddle in things that don’t concern you,” Jing Xian snapped.
“Elder Jing Xian, do not use your seniority to bully the young,” Chang Feng retorted.
“Who is bullying them? Why are you taking the side of outsiders?” Jing Xian was fuming, unable to understand why Chang Feng, who usually ignored the world to study his “useless talismans,” was suddenly acting so helpful.
“Don’t be angry, Elder Jing Xian. Have some consideration for my urgent desire to take on a disciple,” Chang Feng said. As he spoke, his cloth-covered eyes seemed to look directly at Chang Le.
Chang Le didn’t notice, because Jun Wang had suddenly stepped forward, blocking him from view.
“We appreciate the trouble, Elder,” Jun Wang’s cold voice rang out. From the moment Chang Feng arrived, his gaze had been glued to the young master. Even through a white cloth, Jun Wang could sense the man staring.
Since when did the cultivation world have so many cut-sleeves!
This man even wanted to take the young master as a disciple. With only a sliver of spiritual power protecting him, if the boy actually became his disciple, he’d be eaten alive. The thought that the young master might actually stay behind for his “heart’s desire” filled Jun Wang with a surge of irritation.
No. Not a chance!
He accepted that he was being influenced by the inner demon, but he told himself he was merely protecting someone under his care.
“Are you a rogue cultivator?” Chang Feng asked, observing how the tall man completely shielded the azure-clad youth, a posture that clearly placed the boy under his protection. He tried to probe the man’s cultivation level, only to find that even with his own power, he couldn’t see through him. “A formidable youth indeed. Follow me.”
“Streamer Flowers grow within a small secret realm of the Tianxuan Sect. Finding them is no easy task, so you two should take this Scent-Tracking Mirror.”
Chang Feng handed the mirror to Chang Le and opened the secret realm. A forest of dark shadows suddenly appeared before them. It looked pitch-black and somewhat terrifying.
“Follow me,” Jun Wang said reassuringly.
Chang Le followed Jun Wang into the realm, and Chang Feng followed behind them. The entrance to the secret realm began to slowly close.
Suddenly, Chang Feng grabbed Chang Le’s arm. “These flowers grow in scattered locations, making them time-consuming to gather. Why don’t you become my disciple? I’ll help you pick them.”
Chang Le was stunned by the sudden turn of events. However, before he could even react, a streak of golden light blasted Chang Feng away. Just as the secret realm door was about to seal shut, Jun Wang shoved the elder right out of it.
Wait! Great Demon, if you push our guide out, how are we supposed to get back out?
