After Becoming The Young Darling Of A Wealthy Family - Chapter 6
Wen Ruanqing’s two clear cries rang out loudly. For a moment, everyone at the table froze, and then four enthusiastic gazes collectively shifted onto her.
Ah.
Wen Ruanqing’s eyes darted around. She reached out and patted her little dining table, indicating that she was very hungry and that her stomach was completely flat.
Feng Ye was the first to snap out of it. With an “Oh,” she gave Wen Si a gentle nudge.
“Go make the formula.”
“Al-right.”
Wen Si hadn’t even heard Wen Ruanqing call her “Sister” yet, but she went to prepare Wen Ruanqing’s dinner with a beaming smile. Children are a bit different at every stage, and every single breakthrough feels like a wonderful surprise. Even though she had experienced it once before, her heart was still filled with joy.
“Little sister, you’re amazing!”
Wen Tingyin was exceptionally supportive. She raised her hands and clapped vigorously.
“Sister is clapping for you.”
Feng Ye clapped too, looking at the two of them with utter adoration, the smile on her face completely impossible to hide.
Sitting across from Wen Ruanqing, Huo Yinli watched this scene. With Wen Ruanqing’s shout still echoing in her mind, she slowly raised her hands and joined in the clapping.
She felt it was incredibly funny—a sort of uncontrollable urge to laugh. She felt so happy, a kind of joy she wanted to share with her mother immediately.
The surrounding applause made Wen Ruanqing look left and right. For a moment, she didn’t know where to focus her attention. Her head was shaking so much she felt dizzy, but seeing the smiles on the three faces, she also laughed and clapped her hands: “Ha.”
“What are you laughing so happily about?”
Wen Si walked over with the prepared formula. She handed a baby bottle to Wen Ruanqing, and then gave another baby bottle to Wen Tingyin. Although Wen Tingyin was four years old and primarily ate solid food, she hadn’t completely transitioned off milk yet. However, the amount wasn’t large, and the main component was probiotics.
“This is… yours.”
Wen Si offered a smile to Huo Yinli. “I didn’t know if you’d be used to drinking this, Auntie, so I took the liberty of pouring you a cup.”
Unlike Wen Ruanqing and Wen Tingyin, Huo Yinli was given a regular cup.
“Oh?”
Wen Ruanqing was originally holding her bottle and drinking, but when she saw Wen Si place a cup on the table, she leaned forward to get a look. “Want…”
Was there something delicious inside that?
“That belongs to Sister Xiaoli.” Feng Ye blocked Wen Ruanqing’s hand. “Your food is right here.”
Wen Ruanqing still looked on longingly, but ultimately she didn’t keep reaching for the cup.
“Thank you, Auntie.”
Huo Yinli wasn’t very used to this kind of intimacy. She accepted the cup, glanced down at it, and then took a deep breath, downing it in one big gulp. She drank too fast, leaving a white ring stained around her lips.
“I finished drinking.”
With a thud, Huo Yinli set the cup down. There was no smile on her face, as if she had just gone through something deeply serious.
It tasted good; she liked it quite a bit.
But, why was everyone laughing?
“Hahaha, Huo Yinli, you’ve turned into a white-bearded old grandma!”
Wen Tingyin laughed so hard she slumped back in her chair. “There’s a white border all around the outside of your mouth.”
Wen Si had just taken out a brand new baby bottle. Seeing this, she forcefully suppressed her laughter and silently hid the bottle behind her back.
“Alright, now.”
Feng Ye smiled, giving Wen Si a tender, playful glare. She then walked over to Huo Yinli’s side and used a tissue to wipe her mouth.
Only then did Huo Yinli realize what had happened. She covered her mouth with a look of surprise: “Mmh.”
“Yee.”
Wen Ruanqing tilted her head, staring at Huo Yinli. She only felt that Huo Yinli’s appearance had changed. Without laughing, she looked at the bottle in her own hands, and then looked back at Huo Yinli.
Oh, she understood.
Wen Ruanqing took a deep breath, lifted her baby bottle, turned the nipple toward her palm, and shook it hard. Seeing the milk come out, she smeared it directly over her own mouth, and only began to laugh after she finished doing it all.
Haha.
Wen Ruanqing instinctively licked her lips and smacked them. Delish.
Seeing this scene, a warmth blossomed in Huo Yinli’s heart, and all of her original awkwardness dissipated. She lowered her hand, pursed her lips, and smiled.
“Look at what you did.” Wen Si didn’t know whether to laugh or cry as she wiped Wen Ruanqing’s hands and mouth. Immediately after finishing, she had the servant bring up the dumplings. “Let’s eat.”
Steaming hot dumplings were brought to the table, with a bowl placed in front of each child. Of course, Wen Ruanqing didn’t have one. She couldn’t digest such things properly yet, so she could only watch blankly.
“Ah—”
Catching the aroma, Wen Ruanqing’s drool flowed straight out. The milk in her hands suddenly didn’t taste as good anymore. Her gaze was entirely locked onto those dumplings; she wanted to eat them too.
“Ah—”
Wen Ruanqing opened her mouth, signaling her mother to feed her.
Wen Si wiped Wen Ruanqing’s drool and stood up, preparing to carry her upstairs. Otherwise, leaving her here alone would be too torturous for the child. “Let’s go, Mother will hold you.”
Ring.
The ringing of her phone interrupted Wen Si’s movements. She glanced down, and the tenderness on her face instantly vanished. She took the phone and waved it at Feng Ye. “I’ll be right back.”
Feng Ye nodded, her eyes casting a calm glance at Wen Si. She then picked up Wen Ruanqing but didn’t move away, teasing her for a moment instead. “Oh my, my little baby wants to eat too? Then give the baby bottle to Mama.”
She tried to tug the bottle away, but Wen Ruanqing gripped it tightly in her hands and wouldn’t give it up. She started teasing her again: “Is my little baby a little greedy cat? You want to eat dumplings and drink milk too.”
Wen Tingyin’s attention was also drawn over. She tried to tug it away as well, but Wen Ruanqing refused to yield and successfully got irritated.
“No.”
Wen Ruanqing held the baby bottle tightly to her chest, looking at Wen Tingyin warily.
“Hungry.”
“Sister won’t snatch it.”
Wen Tingyin sat back down, propping her face in one hand. “I’ll eat dumplings.”
Watching this, Huo Yinli also felt a bit playful. She cleared her throat, made a very obvious feint, slid off her chair, and walked over to Wen Ruanqing with her bowl in hand. She said calmly, “You cannot snatch Little Sister’s baby bottle.”
Wen Tingyin’s eyes widened instantly. “Me?”
But in the next second, she saw Huo Yinli use her chopsticks to pick up a tiny piece of dumpling wrapper and hold it in front of Wen Ruanqing.
Wen Tingyin’s expression instantly turned mischievous. With a hehe laugh, she began to observe Wen Ruanqing’s reaction.
Sure enough, Wen Ruanqing’s entire focus was captivated by the dumpling wrapper in front of her. The dumpling wrapper moved left, her head tilted left; the dumpling wrapper moved right, her head tilted right. The aroma right at the tip of her nose kept her smacking her lips.
So fragrant.
“Ah-num.”
Wen Ruanqing bit forward with force, but she bit empty air. “Huh?”
What happened?
The dumpling wrapper dangled in front of her again. Catching the right moment, Wen Ruanqing opened her mouth and took another bite. She had only grown four teeth—two upper front teeth, and then two symmetrical teeth below. With another ah-num bite, only the sound of her teeth clacking together could be heard.
Huo Yinli had pulled it away again.
Wen Ruanqing was dazed. She couldn’t eat it. And if she couldn’t eat it…
Her mouth turned downward, and the tip of her nose went red. The next second, she buried herself aggrievedly into Feng Ye’s embrace.
Waaah, the pretty sister is mean.
Feng Ye was amused by the tease. Laughing, she stood up, lifted Wen Ruanqing up high, pressed her forehead against Wen Ruanqing’s, and rubbed it gently with small movements. “My little greedy cat can’t eat it, huh. When you’re a bit bigger, Mama will wrap a huge dumpling for my little baby. Right now, our baby teeth are still so tiny, aren’t they?”
Feng Ye’s soft voice comforting Wen Ruanqing reached Huo Yinli’s ears. She glanced at Wen Tingyin, feeling a little panicked inside. She didn’t know if she would be scolded for teasing the baby sister to tears. But Wen Tingyin playfully winked at her, saying:
“Hurry up and eat, hurry up and eat.”
After saying that, Wen Tingyin shouted loudly, “Mother, hurry up please! The dumplings are going to get cold in a bit.”
From upstairs came Wen Si’s reply, “Alright, coming right now.”
The lights in the living room illuminated everyone brightly. The slight unease in Huo Yinli’s heart vanished completely. Holding her bowl, she sat back down in her chair and began to savor this dinner with all her heart.
Today was a happy day.
Because Wen Ruanqing hadn’t fully recovered yet, she went back to sleep after taking her bath. Wen Tingyin lay curled in Feng Ye’s arms listening to a story. Once the story was finished, she became sleepy too.
“Go to sleep, Mama’s babies.”
Feng Ye gave each of them a kiss. Only after doing all this did she look toward Wen Si, who was standing by the bathroom waiting to take a shower together. She let out a huff.
“Leaving again tomorrow?”
“Not leaving. I’m going to keep you company properly.”
Wen Si and Feng Ye’s family dynamics were a bit different. Wen Si’s mother had stepped away from the business early, so Wen Si had to handle the company matters constantly. But Feng Ye was different; her mother was willing to work, so she could stay and accompany the children. In a few more years, she was afraid Feng Ye wouldn’t have it this easy.
“Sweet talk. You could only fool the me from four years ago.”
Feng Ye gave Wen Si another glare. “Are you sure you can go out and play with me tomorrow?”
Wen Si nodded, acting spoiled toward Feng Ye. “Everything has been handled. Trust me.”
“Tch.” Feng Ye walked up to Wen Si, tilted her head up, and kissed her. “I wonder if we should take Huo Yinli along tomorrow. I see that child is quite nice, and she’s probably all alone at home.”
Wen Si nodded, pulling Feng Ye directly into a hug. “Sure, I’ll go knock on her door tomorrow. Let me take a shower first, okay?”
“Oh, stop it…”
Feng Ye’s voice gradually faded. Held in Wen Tingyin’s arms, Wen Ruanqing’s lips twitched slightly, her eyelids not opening even a fraction.
It was so warm, just like springtime.
Summer nights are exceptionally short, and soon the sky was bright with daylight again.
Wen Ruanqing and Wen Tingyin woke up at the same time. Without crying or throwing a tantrum, they blankly let themselves be dressed, brushed their teeth, and were carried downstairs. It wasn’t until a baby bottle was stuffed into her mouth that Wen Ruanqing finally snapped out of it…
She was out of bed.
Today, Wen Ruanqing wore a green floral dress, a beige baby bonnet on her head, and a pair of little green shoes with a sunflower on the toe, which made her look exceptionally fair and chubby.
Leaning in Wen Si’s arms, she noticed her shoes and wiggled her feet.
“Do you like them?”
Wen Si rubbed her face against Wen Ruanqing’s. “Shall I go call Sister Xiaoli?”
As she spoke, Wen Si changed her shoes, pushed open the door, and walked with large strides toward Huo Yinli’s house.
“Let’s see if Sister Xiaoli has classes today.”
Wen Si rang the doorbell. Very quickly, the door opened, and it was Huo Yinli.
“Auntie Wen.”
Huo Yinli was somewhat puzzled. She looked up at Wen Ruanqing. The baby sister looked exceptionally cute today.
“Do you want to go out and play with us today?”
Wen Si held Wen Ruanqing’s hand to wave it, smiling as she urged the baby to greet her. “Little baby, invite Sister too.”
Wen Ruanqing didn’t know what it meant, but seeing Huo Yinli made her excited, so she cried out with all her might:
“Fafa!”
Good morning!
