- Chapter 15 - The Little Greedy Cat Sister
“You can’t eat that.”
Wen Tingyin stopped Wen Ruanqing just in time. She looked outside with a puzzled expression but didn’t see any sign of Zhao Chi. “She’s gone.”
“Did she give sister a plush toy?”
Feng Ye walked over. Just as she picked up the plush toy, she noticed a slip of paper tucked behind it. Raising an eyebrow, she spoke in an exaggerated tone, “Wow, what’s this?”
Hearing those words, Huo Yinli immediately gathered around. All the attention of the three children was focused on the slip of paper in Feng Ye’s hand.
“Let me see.”
Feng Ye opened the note. Inside was a drawing: a little girl holding a little sheep plush toy, surrounded by little butterflies. It wasn’t hard to see that this drawing depicted Wen Ruanqing.
Two days had passed since the last incident, and it was evident that a lot of heart went into this drawing.
Feng Ye had originally thought that Zhao Chi wouldn’t apologize, but it turned out the child could still be taught.
“Sister.” Wen Tingyin pointed at the little note and looked at Wen Ruanqing with a smile, praising her without hesitation, “As expected, my sister is the cutest.”
Huo Yinli also nodded. “I agree.”
“Then what about Xiao Bao?”
Feng Ye started teasing Wen Ruanqing again. She watched as Wen Ruanqing looked at the little note blankly, and then looked toward Feng Ye with a look of innocent confusion, calling out softly, “Mama.”
Why was everyone staring at her?
“Mama will sanitize the little sheep for you, okay?”
Feng Ye handed the little sheep toy directly to the maid, then wiped Wen Ruanqing’s little hands. “Do you two accept Zhao Chi’s apology?”
Wen Tingyin thought about it, twisting her waist awkwardly. “I’m not angry anymore.”
“And you?”
Feng Ye asked the maid to cut the cake and distribute it to the two children, while also getting a little biscuit for Wen Ruanqing.
Otherwise, Wen Ruanqing would get so greedy for it that she would cry.
“Yeah, I’m not angry either.”
Huo Yinli took the cake and took a small bite of it.
Children were just like that—soft-hearted.
“Autumn is coming soon, and the weather has been nice lately. Do you want to go swimming tomorrow?”
Looking at the three children, Feng Ye leaned against the back of the sofa and curled her lips into a smile. “Are we going or not?”
“Yes!”
Wen Tingyin was the first to raise her hand. “I want to go! I want to wear that little yellow duck outfit.”
Huo Yinli hesitated for a moment, looked at Wen Ruanqing, and said with some embarrassment, “But I don’t know how to.”
“I don’t know how to either, but I can use a wing-wing ring.”
“Wing-wing ring?”
A question mark slowly floated up over Huo Yinli’s head. “I haven’t been there.”
Feng Ye spoke up to correct her: “A swimming ring.”
Wen Tingyin: “Wing-wing ring.”
“Yo…”
Wen Ruanqing followed behind Wen Tingyin and tried to copy her, holding the little biscuit in her mouth as she looked at Feng Ye with curiosity.
“Then is sister going?”
Wen Tingyin was completely charmed by how cute Wen Ruanqing was. She let out a little “ya” sound, grabbed Wen Ruanqing’s little hand and squeezed it, but this just got saliva all over her hand.
Feng Ye fell silent for a brief moment, but quickly smiled. “She’s not going. Mother is taking sister to the hospital tomorrow for a checkup. If the checkup finishes early, she will bring sister to find us.”
“Is sister sick again?”
Huo Yinli’s brow furrowed tightly as she looked at Wen Ruanqing anxiously, clutching her hands together. “What should we do?”
“Don’t be nervous, it’s just a routine checkup.”
Feng Ye used a bib to wipe away Wen Ruanqing’s drool, then pinched Wen Ruanqing’s little face. Noticing that another baby tooth was about to come in, she smiled and took a photo. “Just have a good time playing.”
Turning her head to look at the two older children, she said softly:
“Nothing bad will happen to sister.”
Wen Si had been busy again lately, trying to free up time to spend with the children, so it was almost one o’clock in the morning by the time she arrived home.
The lights at home were still on. Wen Si originally thought her lover and children were all asleep, but to her surprise, as soon as she pushed open the door, she saw Feng Ye coaxing the baby.
“You’re not asleep yet?”
Wen Si walked over quickly, her brow furrowed. “Is Xiao Bao feeling unwell?”
Feng Ye rocked Wen Ruanqing gently, looking up to say softly, “She had a nightmare. Xiao Bao was so scared she kept crying.”
“Let me take her.”
Wen Si took Wen Ruanqing into her arms and leaned down to quickly kiss Feng Ye’s lips. “Thank you for your hard work.”
“You’ve worked hard too.”
Feng Ye took Wen Si’s trench coat. “Zhao Chi apologized today. She gave Xiao Bao a plush toy and a drawing. Yi Hui also called to admit her mistake.”
“The child was raised to have a spoiled and arrogant personality; it really is the mother’s fault.”
Wen Si kissed Feng Ye’s face again. “Go to sleep. I’ll handle the rest of the matters.”
“Okay.”
Feng Ye was indeed sleepy. She pinched Wen Si’s ear gently. “You should go to sleep early too.”
“Mm.”
Wen Si watched Feng Ye walk upstairs with a smile. She rocked Wen Ruanqing with small movements. The child in her arms was sleeping somewhat fitfully, whimpering from time to time. Lowering her gaze, Wen Si hummed an unformed little tune from her mouth: “Mother is here, Mother is here…”
“Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, I’m always here.”
Wen Ruanqing murmured in her sleep. She couldn’t even open her eyes, yet she could feel a sense of peace in her heart.
Once a person falls ill, their energy and spirit are bound to suffer. When Wen Ruanqing was brought to the hospital by Wen Si in the morning, her eyelids were drooping. She didn’t even drink her milk in the morning, yet she didn’t cry a single tear.
“We’re going to draw blood now, don’t be afraid.”
Wen Si covered Wen Ruanqing’s eyes. Seeing the needle pierce into Wen Ruanqing’s skin, her own eyes turned red, and she kept comforting her, saying, “It’ll be over in just a moment.”
Wen Ruanqing felt only the pain. She pouted her lips, and tears welled up in her eyes, but she didn’t let them fall.
“We’re just doing a re-examination, it’ll be quick.”
Wen Si carried Wen Ruanqing all over the hospital. The doctor also carefully reviewed Wen Ruanqing’s examination report, finally letting out a sigh. “It’s a bit better than before, but her body is weak, especially her heart. It’s best if she doesn’t experience any frights, otherwise it will be difficult to manage.”
“Then the medicine…”
“She must continue taking it, do not stop. She will likely feel some discomfort in her chest recently, and her appetite won’t be very good either. The medication cannot be interrupted.”
“Understood.” Wen Si held Wen Ruanqing close as she stood up, nodding to indicate she understood.
“Mama.”
Wen Ruanqing called out in a small voice to Wen Si, “Mama.”
“Mm.”
Wen Si responded to each call. She pushed open the door and walked out, running right into Cui Wangku and Mother Cui.
“Pretty sister!”
Cui Wangku was surprised, but followed by immense joy. “Sister, Auntie! I’m having my surgery tomorrow.”
“Really?”
Wen Si expressed her pleasant surprise. “So soon?”
Cui Wangku nodded vigorously, then looked up at Wen Ruanqing. “Is sister feeling unwell?”
“She’s just doing a checkup.”
Wen Si looked at Mother Cui with a smile, but Mother Cui’s eyes were filled with a faint sorrow as she asked in a low voice, “It’s not a match…”
Mother Cui forced a smile. “I’m just worried.”
“Mother, don’t worry.”
Cui Wangku took Mother Cui’s hand, then looked at Wen Ruanqing with a smile. “Sister, once I get better, I’m going to find you to play!”
Wen Ruanqing also looked down at Cui Wangku. She didn’t have the strength to respond, but she just felt a bitter taste permeating through the air.
She seemed to be sensitive to certain things. Even though she couldn’t fully comprehend it, her eyes turned red. She blinked, and in the next second, her tears fell.
“Wah—”
She said in a small voice, “Want to.”
I want to play together with you too!
