- After Becoming The Young Darling Of A Wealthy Family
- Chapter 1 - I Decided on You at First Sight!
Wen Ruanqing, twenty years old, was not loved by her father and was disliked by her mother. She had once scored 735 on the college entrance examination and was known as a “genius girl.”
At this moment, she was wearing a pair of large, black-framed glasses. Her face was completely devoid of color, bearing only the deathly pallor of excessive all-nighters. The dark circles and faint, bluish-purple bruising beneath her eyes were dimly reflected on the computer screen, which glowed with a cold light.
Overtime, overtime!
She had been working overtime for three consecutive days!
She hadn’t even seen the door of her own home for three days. When she closed her eyes, stars floated before them; when she opened her eyes, she faced annoying colleagues. She had had quite enough of this kind of life!
“Exploitation! I’ll let you exploit me!”
Wen Ruanqing had a thin, emaciated frame. She wore an oversized white T-shirt and a pair of pants that had washed out to a faded white. Currently, she was sitting in her office chair with her back hunched. Dense clusters of data were reflected in her lenses as she gritted her teeth and cursed, “Dead skin-flint, I hope you go to hell soon.”
Just then, her phone rang. Wen Ruanqing forcefully jabbed at the screen. It was a voice message sent by her boss: “Little Wen, hurry up and do it. Aren’t you a student from a 985 prestigious university? How can you do such a simple task so slowly? You always have the most issues every day. If this keeps up, I’m going to dock your overtime pay.”
“Heh.”
Wen Ruanqing’s face instantly flushed crimson with rage. She stood up, her entire body trembling. The next second, she raised her keyboard high and smashed it down with immense force. In the massive office, her workstation was the only one with the lights still on. She had been targeted, given a hard time, and subjected to deliberate isolation led by her superiors. She was sick and tired of days like this.
“I quit.”
Wen Ruanqing’s lips were completely bloodless. She propped both hands on the desk. Because of her anger, her breathing was rapid and her chest felt suffocated. A few seconds later, she took a deep breath and then murmured, “Whoever wants to do it can do it, I am not accompanying you anymore.”
She bent over once again to look at the data on the screen, but this time, stars began to pop up before her eyes. Wave after wave of darkness turned those numbers into twisted vortexes. Wen Ruanqing froze in place. A sudden, sharp pain struck her chest, but she couldn’t utter a single word—
“I…”
Wen Ruanqing bent forward and never straightened up again, collapsing directly to the floor. In her final moments of life, all sorts of past events appeared before her one by one like fragments of a movie: “So what if Wen Ruanqing is a top student from a prestigious university? She still has to listen to my words.”
“Pah, being good at studying is useless. With no background at home, she’s just a miserable wretch.”
“Working overtime? Who doesn’t work overtime?”
“You won’t die from it. I feel disgusted just looking at that appearance of yours. Can looking good be eaten as food?”
“Ruanqing, you know the situation at home, you need to provide more subsidies for the family.”
“Your younger brother needs to attend tutoring classes, and I need to see a doctor. Why can’t you earn a bit more money?”
“Ingrate! Your father gambled? I gave birth to you so you could provide for me in my old age!”
“If you dare to abandon our family, I will go to your workplace and make a scene every single day!”
“Give money, give money, give money!”
Those words seemed to drift over from the edge of the sky. They were clearly light and airy, yet they struck her body, causing excruciating pain. Wen Ruanqing blinked her eyes weakly, and her fingertips twitched slightly. At the very last moment of her remaining consciousness, she thought:
If I can reincarnate, it would be wonderful to be born into a wealthy family. If I cannot, then I shall become a fierce ghost and haunt the people I detest for the rest of their lives.
If… I am given another chance…
“Mom, where is younger sister?”
A pair of small hands gripped the car window, and the eyes peeking out were filled with anxiety. Wen Tingyin was eager to see the younger sister she had only met a few times. She was four years old this year, wearing a beautiful yellow floral dress, with her hair styled exquisitely. She puffed out her cheeks, and her fair, tender face bore a faint, delicate pink flush:
“Sister.”
The car door opened, and a gentle-looking woman stepped down from the back seat holding a frail child. Wen Tingyin tilted her head up to look at her biological mother, Feng Ye. She reached out her small hand to tug at the corner of the woman’s clothes, calling out in a small voice, “Mom.”
She was terrified that if her voice were even a bit louder, it would wake the child in Feng Ye’s arms.
Feng Ye patted Wen Tingyin’s head lovingly: “Your sister just woke up. Your grandmother is abroad and couldn’t rush back in time.”
Wen Tingyin nodded vigorously, stretching her neck to look at her younger sister: “Sister!”
This time her voice was slightly louder, and the child finally had a reaction, slowly turning her head to look over—
That girl looked listless, her face pale, and the corners of her eyes tilted upward slightly, though without any hint of aggression. Her pupils were crystal clear, while also carrying a trace of confusion. The bridge of her nose was high, and her lips were on the thinner side. She parted her lips slightly, emitting a sound: “jie…”
Sister.
Wen Ruanqing huddled in Feng Ye’s arms, devoid of any strength. She had been in this family for a year now. She was born prematurely, and only that single cry at birth had been loud and resonant; after that, she had stayed in an incubator and a hospital ward continuously, only successfully discharging from the hospital today. As for the memories of her past life, they seemed to have become blurred and indistinct long ago.
“Sister.”
Feng Ye lightly patted Wen Ruanqing’s back, looking at Wen Ruanqing with heartache. Afterward, she freed up one hand to hold Wen Tingyin: “Let’s go home.”
Wen Tingyin nodded forcefully, tightly grasping Feng Ye’s hand, but her gaze remained fixed on Wen Ruanqing the entire time.
Her younger sister was so small—her hands were small, and her face was small too.
Lying in Feng Ye’s arms, Wen Ruanqing rested her head on Feng Ye’s shoulder. Having finally recovered a bit of energy, her gaze wandered around, looking everywhere. This was a villa district. Just walking to their front door took a full two minutes. In the massive garden, quite a few servants were working. This was her home…
The tall villa was like a mutated monster, pressing down darkly over Wen Ruanqing. In comparison, she felt far too insignificant. Wen Ruanqing nervously clutched Feng Ye’s clothes tightly, her eyes staring at the front door without blinking once.
It was like Pandora’s box. Realizing it once again, her family was rich.
“What is it?”
Feng Ye noticed Wen Ruanqing’s tensed body and subconsciously paused her steps to inquire, “Are you uncomfortable?”
Wen Ruanqing also looked at Feng Ye. After uttering an “ah” sound, she twisted her head back, then hugged Feng Ye’s neck, her gaze shifting toward the rear along with the movement.
She wasn’t uncomfortable at all; she was just looking forward to her upcoming life way too much!
“j… jie.”
Wen Ruanqing wasn’t very good at speaking yet. Blinking her eyes, she looked toward a child who had emerged in the garden. That girl’s gaze was cold, but her appearance was genuinely beautiful. Wen Ruanqing liked beautiful things. Leaning her body outward, she tried to get closer, opening her mouth to say, “fafa.”
“fafa?” Wen Tingyin looked over with a face full of confusion, “Where is there hair (toufa)?”
Wen Ruanqing called out, “fafa.”
Feng Ye understood Wen Ruanqing’s meaning, letting out a soft laugh before turning her body: “Flower (huahua)? Does our little baby want a flower?”
“fa…”
Wen Ruanqing was a bit anxious. She didn’t want a flower; she wanted that older sister. Her body leaned in the direction of that child: “M-Mom, fafa ah.”
Feng Ye caught on, searching in that direction, and sure enough, she discovered a child. However, the face was completely unfamiliar: “?”
“Huo Yinli!”
Wen Tingyin was the first to recognize the other party. She tilted her head up and spoke to Feng Ye: “Mom, she is our new neighbor, but she doesn’t really like to acknowledge people.”
As she spoke, Wen Tingyin sighed, touching her forehead: “I wanted to make friends with her too.”
Feng Ye was amused by Wen Tingyin’s act of pretending to be an adult. She reached out to pinch Wen Tingyin’s little face, then walked over while holding Wen Ruanqing: “Hello there.”
“Hello.”
Huo Yinli kept a stiff face, clutching a tennis ball in her hand, her tone also completely dry: “Auntie, I am picking up my ball.”
Feng Ye crouched down: “Okay, then would you like to come and sit inside Auntie’s house for a while? Is your mom at home?”
Huo Yinli shook her head: “Not at home.”
“fa…”
To the side, Wen Ruanqing was truly anxious, her little face flushing entirely red. She directly reached out and grabbed Huo Yinli’s clothes, lifting her head as her eyes lit up: “ya.”
Huo Yinli’s entire body went rigid. The hand grabbing her clothes was tiny, and the plumpness of the five fingers wasn’t very obvious, yet she could feel the other party was using force. Just as she was about to speak, she heard that child coughing violently.
Heh.
Huo Yinli drew in a sharp breath, taking a few steps back in a panic, looking at Wen Ruanqing with a tense gaze.
Because of her emotional excitement, Wen Ruanqing became short of breath and coughed for a long time. Tears rolled down along the curves of her face, and the tip of her nose turned bright red. She sniffled her nose, with only one thought remaining in her mind—to bring Huo Yinli home.
She didn’t know if the other party liked her, but she only knew that she wanted her, and she had to have her.
“fafa.”
Don’t go.
“It’s alright, it’s alright.”
Feng Ye gently stroked Wen Ruanqing’s back, the heartache in the depths of her eyes undisguised. However, she quickly composed herself. This child was born prematurely, weighing barely four pounds at birth, and her health was poor. She wished she could hold Wen Ruanqing in her mouth, terrified that any mishap would happen to her.
“Do you like this sister?”
Wen Tingyin walked over to Wen Ruanqing’s side and held her hand. There was a scent of medicine lingering on her younger sister. She squeezed it gently, her tone carries a hint of jealousy, yet she communicated with Huo Yinli: “Can you come to my house to play for a bit? Eat at my house, I can give you all of my toys.”
Huo Yinli’s lips moved slightly, but she didn’t say anything. She wanted to refuse, but upon lifting her eyes and seeing Wen Ruanqing’s watery eyes, the words of refusal could no longer be uttered.
“I… alright then.”
Huo Yinli followed behind the three people, and they returned home together.
Feng Ye placed Wen Ruanqing on the sofa, letting Wen Tingyin watch her sister for a moment. She wanted to make milk for Wen Ruanqing; although they had hired a nanny, she preferred to do things personally.
“Sister.”
Wen Tingyin climbed onto the sofa to sit, looking down at Wen Ruanqing. She poked Wen Ruanqing’s face with her finger, the fondness in her eyes nearly overflowing: “So cute.”
Wen Ruanqing couldn’t sit very steadily, so her back rested against the sofa, her eyes darting back and forth between Wen Tingyin and Huo Yinli.
So many older sisters.
Wow.
Happy.
Wen Ruanqing suddenly smiled. Grabbing Wen Tingyin’s hand, she stuffed it directly into her own mouth: “a.”
“You can’t, you can’t!”
Wen Tingyin immediately pulled her hand out, deliberately keeping her little face stern: “Sister, you can’t eat hands, it’s dirty.”
“Huo Yinli, right.”
Wen Tingyin intentionally wanted to make friends with this new neighbor, bringing Huo Yinli into the conversation explicitly. But this person was so strange, always maintaining an appearance of ignoring people. The teacher said that this was not good.
“Um.”
Huo Yinli had originally been standing a few steps away from the sofa, but upon hearing this, she walked over: “You can’t eat hands.”
“fafa.”
Wen Ruanqing called out this name, tilting her head while looking at Huo Yinli and smiling.
This older sister’s appearance was a bit different from Wen Tingyin’s. Wen Tingyin’s looks were more sweet and beautiful, but Huo Yinli possessed a more sharp appearance; looking from afar, she did indeed give people a vibe that made strangers keep their distance.
Huo Yinli’s eyes flickered for a moment. She reluctantly shuffled over to Wen Ruanqing’s side, reaching out her hand to lightly touch this child. The other party looked so fragile, as though she would break at a single touch.
But the next second, Wen Ruanqing grabbed the bracelet on her wrist. This bracelet had been prayed for at a temple, and her mother said it couldn’t easily be given to others.
“fa Flower.”
Huo Yinli looked into Wen Ruanqing’s eyes. That pair of eyes was beautiful, even allowing her to see her own reflection. Under a bizarre spell, she muttered, “I am not a flower.”
“I am older sister.”
