- Chapter 55.1 - The Medicine is Bitter, I Don’t Want to Take It
Backing Her Up
Her mind went completely blank.
After a brief moment of daze, Zhu Lingyi stood up and swept Qin Shuyue into her arms with a horizontal carry.
Turning around, she sprinted toward the second floor. Qin Shuyue’s lips were pale, and she slept quietly in Zhu Lingyi’s arms, swaying slightly with her movements.
“Yu Xian, Yu Xian!”
Zhu Lingyi carried Qin Shuyue all the way back to her bedroom, shouting Yu Xian’s name.
Yu Xian and Jiang Feiwan were hiding in the first-floor bathroom, a considerable distance from the living room. Everyone knew that at this time, not disturbing Zhu Lingyi was the wisest choice.
However, as soon as Yu Xian heard Zhu Lingyi calling her name urgently, her heart couldn’t help but turn cold.
Jiang Feiwan looked at her with a playful arch of her eyebrows. It was a look that said, ‘Weren’t you just acting like this had nothing to do with you, hanging high and dry? See, your karma has arrived!’
Yu Xian paced back and forth in the bathroom with some hesitation. Before she could decide whether to go out, she heard Zhu Lingyi roaring from upstairs again.
“Yu Xian, get your ass up here right now! I’ll give you ten seconds, or you can forget about your bonus this year.”
This was bad!
As soon as Yu Xian heard it concerned her bonus, she immediately put on an expression of tragic resolve. She placed her hands on the door handle and dashed out in a single stride.
At this moment, who cared if Zhu Lingyi was angry or not, or if she would be caught in the crossfire? She only knew that if she didn’t go up now, her bonus would definitely be affected.
Meanwhile, Jiang Feiwan was clutching her stomach, laughing so hard that tears almost came out.
Upstairs.
Yu Xian held the medical kit, her footsteps “thump-thump-thumping” as she ran to the second floor, heading straight for Qin Shuyue’s room. But as soon as she opened the door, besides a mess on the floor, there was no one on the bed.
She immediately closed the door and ran in the opposite direction. She couldn’t help but curse inwardly. Making the house like a maze who exactly are all these rooms for!
Finally, Yu Xian sprinted all the way to Zhu Lingyi’s bedroom.
As expected, Qin Shuyue was lying on the wide, plush sofa next to the bed.
When Yu Xian entered the room, she was stunned. She immediately rushed to Qin Shuyue’s side, taking out various medical instruments and materials from the medicine box, looking dumbfounded and somewhat frantic.
Yu Xian’s heart was beating like a drum, “thump-thump,” as if it were about to jump out of her chest. She put on her stethoscope and knelt by the sofa, listening carefully to Qin Shuyue’s internal organs.
She seemed to be confirming something.
It wasn’t until she finished listening to the last organ that the grim expression on Yu Xian’s face slowly relaxed. Fortunately, no organs were ruptured. This was a stroke of luck amidst misfortune.
But in the next second, out of the corner of her eye, she glimpsed Zhu Lingyi’s right hand hanging at her side. Blood was smeared on Zhu Lingyi’s palm, and her expression seemed to be in a daze.
Yu Xian’s heart tightened again. She stood up quickly and asked Zhu Lingyi nervously, “Little President Zhu, are… are you injured somewhere? Let me see…”
No way. What kind of power struggle are the Little President and Miss Qin engaged in? How did things end up like this for no reason?
Zhu Lingyi, however, avoided her reaching hand and shook her head, her gaze resting quietly on Qin Shuyue’s deep black hair.
“It’s hers… on the back of her… head.”
Zhu Lingyi took a deep breath imperceptibly. Her expression tightened slightly as she slowly uttered two words: “Go look.”
Yu Xian squatted down again to examine her.
Zhu Lingyi watched Yu Xian observe the back of Qin Shuyue’s head for a long time, not daring to touch or move it casually. But she was certain that Qin Shuyue was definitely injured. Whether it was a superficial wound or internal damage, a specific diagnosis required a hospital visit.
Almost the instant this thought popped up, she stood up and said to Zhu Lingyi: “I cannot determine if Miss Qin’s injury is superficial or internal. To avoid missing the optimal time for diagnosis and treatment… my suggestion is to take Miss Qin to the hospital immediately.”
Zhu Lingyi didn’t say anything, but her gaze swept over Qin Shuyue’s weak, pained face her brow slightly furrowed again and again. Remembering how the girl couldn’t say a word and could only use the most primitive methods to lash out at her, Zhu Lingyi’s heart began to ache inexplicably.
She hardly hesitated and immediately called for Jiang Feiwan.
After Yu Xian left, Jiang Feiwan had come out of the bathroom and was standing at the bedroom door, on standby. As soon as Zhu Lingyi called, she entered immediately.
“Take her to the hospital.”
“Wait.”
Just as Jiang Feiwan was about to pick up Qin Shuyue, she was interrupted by Zhu Lingyi. She strode past Jiang Feiwan and decisively swept Qin Shuyue up in a bridal carry.
Without any hesitation.
Feeling her body temperature gradually dropping, Zhu Lingyi’s heart was actually trembling unconsciously.
What is wrong with me?
This nonsensical thought flashed through her mind and was instantly tossed to the back of her head. She strode toward the parking lot and placed Qin Shuyue in the back seat. Jiang Feiwan and Yu Xian followed closely behind, jogging to keep up.
As Qin Shuyue’s doctor, Yu Xian naturally sat with the patient. She opened the back door and sat beside Qin Shuyue.
Jiang Feiwan naturally opened the passenger door for Zhu Lingyi. “Little President Zhu.”
However, Zhu Lingyi stood frozen in place for a long time. That palm with bloodstains was clenched tightly into a fist; if one looked closely, it was trembling subtly.
She shook her head, her throat feeling a bit tight. “I’m not going. You guys go.”
With that, Zhu Lingyi turned and left decisively.
Jiang Feiwan frowned in confusion, while Yu Xian rolled down the car window and yelled, “Are we going or not! Hurry up! Stop being as indecisive as a man!”
Jiang Feiwan snapped back to reality. She turned, entered the driver’s seat, and started the car. The low roar of the engine sounded, and then the car shot out like an arrow from a bow.
Zhu Lingyi’s footsteps, however, were somewhat unsteady.
After everyone had left, she was the only one remaining in the parking lot. She walked forward a few more steps, fine beads of sweat breaking out on her forehead. Even though the ground beneath her feet was hard concrete, Zhu Lingyi felt as if she were walking on feathers or something soft.
Suddenly, she misstepped. Then, her knees buckled, and she fell to the ground without warning.
As if she felt no pain, there was no change in the expression on Zhu Lingyi’s face. She supported herself with her hands on the ground, trying to use the leverage to stand up, but her legs felt like they were filled with lead, making it impossible for her to move.
Slowly, step by step, she crawled toward an iron pillar standing in the parking lot. She grabbed the pillar with force, the veins on the back of her hand and her forehead bulging. Zhu Lingyi bit her lip tightly, struggling to get up.
But her legs still couldn’t exert any strength; she couldn’t take a single step forward. Her breathing gradually became heavy. She laboriously hugged the iron pillar with one hand and covered her chest with the other.
Her expression finally showed a hint of change. Because her breathing was labored, she had to open her mouth wide to breathe. She frowned with loathing, appearing to hate her current weak self intensely.
She struck her own chest again and again with her fist, as if telling her body who the master was.
But it only felt worse.
Her gaze once again drifted to her clenched fist, the palm she was using to beat her chest. The bloodstains remaining on it had dried, turning a dark red.
Her gaze froze, and her breathing also stopped for a moment. Immediately afterward, her other arm wrapped around the iron pillar completely lost its strength, and she collapsed to the ground once again.
She leaned powerlessly against the iron pillar, her head tilted back high against the metal. One leg was bent at the knee, while the other was naturally extended. Her hands lay uselessly at her sides, and she looked like a fish gasping for air in a dried-up pond, desperately poking its head above the water to frantically suck in oxygen.
She kept her eyes tightly shut. Countless memories played in her mind like fragmented film tapes. her eyelashes fluttered and trembled like the wings of a butterfly, and her lips were also shaking silently.
Blood.
She was most afraid of blood.
In the parking lot, two sets of footsteps gradually approached from a distance one light and skipping, the other steady and slow. A dark shadow walked up to Zhu Lingyi.
The person stared at Zhu Lingyi’s current disheveled state, eyes wide with shock.
The other man behind him urged impatiently, “Xu Lian, have you seen enough? Once you’re done, let’s just go, okay? I’m begging you, please don’t have another outburst of kindness. We are humans, not merciful Bodhisattvas…”
“Zhu Lingyi…?”
Before the words were finished, hearing those three words come slowly out of Xu Lian’s mouth, Gao Yin immediately fell silent. He swallowed hard.
In disbelief, he asked, “Who did you say?”
“It’s Zhu Lingyi.” Xu Lian was certain this time.
Gao Yin took three steps in two, running like the wind to Xu Lian’s side. He leaned down, his eyes leaning in to scrutinize her carefully.
“Oh my god…”
As soon as he saw clearly, Gao Yin was so shocked his throat almost couldn’t make a sound. He wanted to confirm it one more time when he suddenly locked eyes with a pair of cold, piercing gazes.
“Ah!”
Gao Yin was so startled that he immediately straightened up and took a step back. Now he was sure. It was definitely Zhu Lingyi.
Then he asked again, “Heavens, how did you end up like this! It couldn’t be that your enemies found you alone and came to assassinate you, could it?”
Xu Lian’s sharp eyes discovered that familiar smear of red on Zhu Lingyi’s tightly clenched palm. He had seen this color countless times in the autopsy room.
He blurted out almost instantly, “Blood.”
Gao Yin was stunned. “What?!”
He followed Xu Lian’s gaze and indeed saw the blood on Zhu Lingyi’s palm. Gao Yin’s eyes widened, and he suddenly looked up to meet Xu Lian’s eyes.
Meanwhile, Xu Lian had already draped Zhu Lingyi’s hand over his shoulder. Gao Yin also stepped forward, draping Zhu Lingyi’s other hand over his shoulder.
Finally, they managed to carry Zhu Lingyi up. Her legs still lacked strength, but she was better than before; at least she could exert some force.
As they walked, Gao Yin asked somewhat apprehensively, “Did the people from the old residence make a move?”
Zhu Lingyi’s forehead was dripping with sweat, and she shook her head weakly. After a long pause, she lowered her eyes, sweat seeming to soak her eyelashes. “No.”
Everything before her eyes was a blur.
Gao Yin wanted to ask more, but Zhu Lingyi just kept repeating a single word.
“Blood…”
Then she said, “So much blood…”
“So much, so much…”
Gao Yin and Xu Lian both paused simultaneously. They both knew exactly what the “so much blood” in Zhu Lingyi’s mouth meant. But they both tacitly avoided mentioning that past event. Instead, they remained silent, carrying Zhu Lingyi step by step into the elevator to send her back to her dormitory.
“The diagnostic results are out.”
Yu Xian got the test report and ran all the way to Jiang Feiwan. Jiang Feiwan was sitting by Qin Shuyue’s hospital bed, following Yu Xian’s instructions to carefully wipe Qin Shuyue’s body with a warm, damp towel.
Hearing Yu Xian’s words, Jiang Feiwan put the towel aside and picked up the diagnosis sheet to read it. Seeing the puzzled look on Jiang Feiwan’s face, Yu Xian scratched her head awkwardly, thinking of a tactful way to ask: “Um… can you understand it?”
Being called out on her thoughts, Jiang Feiwan’s face turned red. She stuffed the diagnosis sheet back into Yu Xian’s arms and explained with a pout, “To each their own specialty. I studied secretarial work in university…”
Yu Xian chuckled and didn’t lecture her. With a relaxed expression, she said simply: “The values are actually okay.”
Jiang Feiwan looked at the blood on the back of Qin Shuyue’s head, her face showing distress. “This… there’s bleeding on the back of the head, and it’s still okay?”
Yu Xian shook her head and sighed in relief. “We should be grateful; she only has a mild concussion. We’ll focus on medication first. I’ll go get her medicine now.”
She added: “Let’s also prescribe some more medicine for her anemia and low blood sugar from a few days ago. I checked the numbers, and they’re still not good. Remember to remind Little President Zhu when you get back; it’s best to have her carry the medicine with her. She needs to take it three times a day. The dosage is noted on the medicine bottles.”
“If Qin Shuyue’s physical condition isn’t treated properly with medicine, she’ll have to be hospitalized. You should tell Qin Shuyue that, too.”
Jiang Feiwan looked up at her. “Tell her… what?”
“Hospitalization is expensive, costing tens of thousands. If she doesn’t take her medicine on time, she’ll have to spend tens of thousands on a hospital stay.” Yu Xian winked at Jiang Feiwan. “Tell her that, and I guarantee she’ll take her medicine on time~”
Jiang Feiwan was stunned for a moment, then broke into a smile. “Yu Xian, you…”
Yu Xian chuckled twice and turned to leave. But just as she reached the door, she turned back around with a serious expression.
Jiang Feiwan thought something else had happened. Before she could even get her seat warm, she stood up again and looked at Yu Xian.
Yu Xian spoke with a grave face: “I have no money. Tell your boss to reimburse me.”
Jiang Feiwan had thought it was some major catastrophe, but hearing this, she instantly laughed. “Got it, got it. Remember to submit the paperwork, and I’ll report it for you.”
