- Chapter 41 - Does the Forum Affect Things?
Visiting Her
“Someone, come here.”
Her voice was calm, devoid of any emotion. Her eyes were slightly lowered, silently watching the girl curled up on the floor, her face ashen.
Four servants were the first to push open the door and enter, followed closely by the assistant and Yu Xian.
The assistant, in particular, let out a startled cry upon seeing Qin Shuyue lying on the ground. Yu Xian, standing beside her, hurried over and knelt down, pulling a neat row of medical instruments from her medicine chest.
She placed the stethoscope to her ears and pressed it against Qin Shuyue’s chest.
Then, she peeled back Qin Shuyue’s eyelids. After several confirmations, she looked up at Zhu Lingyi.
“President Zhu, she is alright.”
Only upon hearing those words did the fist clenched tightly on Zhu Lingyi’s desk loosen inch by inch; she didn’t even notice that she had quietly let out a sigh of relief.
Zhu Lingyi sat down slowly. Crossing her legs, she reached out and calmly pushed up her glasses.
“Carry her out,” she ordered flatly.
Several servants carried Qin Shuyue out one after another. Yu Xian followed closely behind, while the assistant also walked to the door with a look of concern, glancing in the direction they had left.
The assistant then turned to look at Zhu Lingyi’s expression.
Zhu Lingyi kept her head down, her gaze deep and her expression unreadable. It was impossible to guess what she was thinking.
After a long while, several sounds came from the video conference, yet Zhu Lingyi still did not move.
The assistant looked down at the tablet and looked up nervously, asking cautiously, “President Zhu, this meeting.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, Zhu Lingyi, who had remained silent, slowly raised her head.
She pushed aside the laptop she had closed to blacken the screen and pressed F6 again.
Clearing her throat, her voice was hoarse. At some point, her brow had knitted slightly. Though the movement was subtle, everyone in the meeting saw it clearly.
The crowd stared at their computer screens, eyes meeting and quickly darting away, finally focusing on the assistant’s small square screen.
The assistant shot a quick glance at Zhu Lingyi, who was sitting in her chair radiating a low-pressure aura, and gave a helpless shrug.
“Where did the report leave off?”
As soon as she spoke, a tiny voice emerged from the deathly silent crowd: “President Zhu, we were just talking about.”
After the servants placed Qin Shuyue on the bed, Yu Xian immediately rushed forward to wipe the blood from the back of Qin Shuyue’s hand.
After hanging a fresh IV drip for her, Yu Xian hurried out of the room again, clutching her medical box.
She still had to take Qin Shuyue’s blood sample for testing.
What on earth is going on today!
Just as Yu Xian reached the elevator, it opened with a “ding,” and two people happened to be stepping out.
“Oh? Isn’t this Dr. Yu, the one by Zhu Lingyi’s side?”
A clear, bright voice came from the elevator.
Yu Xian looked up to see Gao Yin with his hands in his pockets, staring at her with a look of confusion. Xu Lian stood straight beside him, his gaze also fixed on Yu Xian.
Gao Yin reacted instantly. He strode out of the elevator, looked toward Room 601, and asked Yu Xian nervously, “It can’t be that something happened to Zhu Lingyi, right?”
He patted Xu Lian’s shoulder and cursed with a pained expression, “I knew those people at the old family mansion weren’t up to any good! Zhu Lingyi was forced to move into the school, and yet those people still won’t let go! All they want is the bit of shares in her hand!”
Xu Lian pushed up his glasses, looked at the frowning Yu Xian, and cautiously reminded Gao Yin.
“Gao Yin, watch your mouth in public.”
Gao Yin understood immediately. Yu Xian was still right next to them.
However, he waved it off dismissively. “Dr. Yu is Zhu Lingyi’s private doctor; she’s basically one of us. Besides, there’s no one here but you, me, and Dr. Yu. If any news gets out, it would naturally be Dr. Yu who said it.”
Gao Yin looked at her with a smile. “Isn’t that right, Dr. Yu?”
Yu Xian naturally felt the heavy threat and ill-intent in Gao Yin’s words.
She was already in her thirties, unmarried and childless; her only goal was to save enough retirement money to die comfortably. Even for a million dollar salary, she wouldn’t dig her own grave by acting like a loudspeaker and spreading wealthy family secrets.
While it was exciting, it was also fraught with danger. Even as a doctor, she feared the stress would shorten her life.
Moreover, as a doctor, her basic professional ethics involved keeping her mouth shut. She didn’t say what shouldn’t be said, and she didn’t look at what wasn’t allowed.
So, she gave a polite smile and said, “Young Master Gao is right. As a doctor, I only need to be diligent and responsible within my professional duties.”
Gao Yin nodded with satisfaction. “As expected of someone Zhu Lingyi chose quite sensible.” Then, he asked her again with a look of tension, “Where was Zhu Lingyi injured this time? Her arm or her leg? Is it serious? Do I need to find a few more security guards…”
Yu Xian shook her head.
She explained, “It wasn’t President Zhu.”
Confusion flickered across both their faces.
If it wasn’t Zhu Lingyi, who else could be injured to the point of calling Yu Xian all the way to the school?
“It’s Miss Qin. She fainted.” Yu Xian glanced down at her watch and said, “Excuse me, gentlemen, I need to take Miss Qin’s blood for testing now. I’ll take my leave first.”
Gao Yin let out an “oh,” while Xu Lian, standing beside him, went stiff, a flash of worry crossing his face.
Yu Xian hurriedly pressed the elevator button and went downstairs.
Relieved by Yu Xian’s words, Gao Yin prepared to walk back to the dormitory as usual, but Xu Lian’s muffled voice suddenly came from behind him.
“Gao Yin.”
Gao Yin was walking ahead, but hearing Xu Lian call him, he turned back. Seeing Xu Lian still frozen on the spot, he asked confusedly, “Let’s go. Why are you standing there?”
Xu Lian said in a low voice, “I want to go see her.”
Gao Yin frowned, sensitively sniffing out a hint of something unusual.
He ran back to Xu Lian’s side, eyeing him up and down warily. “You kid. Tell me the truth, have you taken a liking to that little girl Qin Shuyue?”
Xu Lian lowered his head and shook it. He said worriedly, “Do you remember what I told you last time? Qin Shuyue’s condition has already reached the point where she needs medication Her current state is very likely due to psychological influences that are already harming her real life.”
“Did the professor teach that in class?” Gao Yin scratched his head. Knowing Xu Lian was a bookworm who focused entirely on his studies, he spread his hands. “Alright, if you want to go, then go. But Zhu Lingyi might still be in her meeting right now.”
He checked his watch. “I have a gathering at the Zongsheng Bar.”
“This can’t wait. Let’s go.”
Gao Yin knocked on the door of 601 and asked the servant, “Where is Qin Shuyue?”
The servant paused, seemingly not expecting these two to come and visit Qin Shuyue as well.
She replied, “Miss Qin is in the room at the very end of the second floor hallway. However The servant paused. “I must ask you two young masters to wait a moment. I need to get President Zhu’s permission before letting you into Miss Qin’s room.”
Gao Yin waved his hand dismissively; he had always known Zhu Lingyi had the most rules. Xu Lian didn’t complain either, sitting obediently with Gao Yin on the sofa to wait patiently. After a while, the servant returned and informed them, “Please, follow me.”
Gao Yin looked up at the clock on the wall, somewhat confused. “Did Zhu Lingyi finish her meeting so early? I thought we’d have to wait at least another two hours.”
Zhu Lingyi had a rule: no one was allowed to enter while she was in a meeting. Even if the sky was falling, it had to wait until the meeting was over.
She had never interrupted a meeting for anything else before.
And yet, at the moment Qin Shuyue intruded today and Zhu Lingyi stopped the meeting, the entire room had fallen into a dead silence.
They walked into Qin Shuyue’s room and looked around. Gao Yin remarked, “Is this what they call a ‘bare-shell’ room?”
Before he could finish, he was silenced by a piercing, murderous glare.
Xu Lian whispered a reminder beside him, “Everything here was decorated according to Zhu Lingyi’s instructions. Be careful not to say too much, or Zhu Lingyi might get angry and kick you out.”
Gao Yin couldn’t agree more.
He had already been kicked out once by Zhu Lingyi.
“Alright, alright, I won’t say anything. It’s just that this room really has no furniture; it’s so empty.” Gao Yin paused. “I remember Zhu Lingyi has so many fully furnished rooms on the second floor. Why did Qin Shuyue choose this one? Isn’t she just looking for trouble for herself?”
As they spoke, they reached Qin Shuyue’s bedside.
Qin Shuyue’s weak, pale little face was exposed. Her left hand outside the blanket was hooked up to an IV, and her right hand was carefully covered with a small piece of gauze.
The two were initially shocked that Zhu Lingyi was actually here. Then, Gao Yin naturally walked over to Zhu Lingyi’s side and said in surprise, “You finished so early today. That’s rare. Nothing happened at the Group, right? Don’t worry too much about the old house; I’m keeping an eye on them for you.”
Zhu Lingyi’s face remained tense, and she didn’t respond.
Gao Yin turned his gaze back to Qin Shuyue, who was lying on the bed with the IV. “We haven’t seen her in a few days; how did she get this sick? Is it serious?”
Zhu Lingyi’s lips thinned into a straight line. She looked calmly and coldly at Qin Shuyue, who was lying on the bed with her eyes closed, her brow furrowed restlessly in sleep.
Standing to the side, Xu Lian felt the displeasure radiating from Zhu Lingyi. He reached out and tugged at Gao Yin, signaling him with his eyes.
But Gao Yin didn’t seem to get Xu Lian’s meaning. He let out a mock sigh of pity. “What a shame, to be at the prime of her youth and then so early.”
“She’s not dead.” Zhu Lingyi shot him a cold glance. “Swallow your curses.”
Seeing that Zhu Lingyi had finally spoken, Gao Yin breathed a sigh of relief. He then nodded nonchalantly. “Got it, got it. I say, it couldn’t be because of those comments on the forum that this little cook is so exhausted, could it?”
“Severe hypoglycemia.” Zhu Lingyi watched Qin Shuyue’s restless sleeping face. She closed her eyes, turned around, and crossed her arms. She scanned the two of them before asking coldly, “What are you two doing here?”
Gao Yin pointed at Xu Lian and spread his hands innocently. “It has nothing to do with me; Xu Lian said he wanted to come.”
Zhu Lingyi turned her gaze to him and asked frostily, “What are you doing here?”
