- Chapter 23 - I'll Help You Massage Your Temples
Why do you have to press down on me and kiss me just because you have a headache?!
It wasn’t until the sound of footsteps outside had completely vanished that Qin Shuyue slowly stood up from behind the abandoned machinery.
She walked tentatively toward the rusted main gate and peered outside a couple of times.
The bank card in her palm felt like a searing branding iron, burning hot against her skin every second she held it.
Her heart hammered violently against her ribs. She looked back and forth for a long while before finally working up the courage to step out of the factory.
Fearing that someone might double back halfway, Qin Shuyue immediately ran in the opposite direction from where the gang chasing Wu Xuhua had gone.
2:25 AM.
The night seemed to have deepened.
Thin clouds drifted over what little moonlight remained, completely smothering the last traces of light.
At this hour, there were almost no people left on the streets. Only the streetlights on both sides of the road emitted an orange glow, keeping the city brightly lit.
Qin Shuyue walked lonely down the street, clutching the bank card tightly, her heart inevitably worrying for Wu Xuhua.
She pulled out her phone, opened WeChat, and tapped on Wu Xuhua’s chat box.
The messages ended with Wu Xuhua’s reminder from the previous night not to forget to come to work.
After that, there was only one phone call.
Up until now, Wu Xuhua had sent no further news.
Qin Shuyue couldn’t help but worry if something had happened to him.
Yet, she was afraid that sending a message might expose the location where he was hiding.
After weighing her options, she ultimately chose to press the power button and dim the screen.
Better not.
She tightened her grip on the bank card. The orange streetlights stretched her thin shadow into a long, gaunt shape. A few withered leaves drifted across the desolate street; as the woman passed, she brought a slight gust of wind that sent the leaves fluttering up before they settled again.
It was as if no one had ever been there.
“Zhu Lingyi, didn’t your body react at all when you took that medicine back then?”
Gao Yin chose to ignore Zhu Lingyi’s sharp tongue, turning the conversation to ask her a different question.
“There was a reaction, but not much.” Zhu Lingyi elegantly raised a hand to brush back the long hair clinging to her forehead.
Inside the room, the central air conditioning was whistling as it pumped out cold air, but Zhu Lingyi looked as if she had just stepped out of a sauna—her entire body was drenched in sweat.
Gao Yin had studied medicine, but he was completely caught off guard by this sudden situation.
“With a reaction like this, it’s best to get an IV drip.” Gao Yin rubbed his thumbs together. “I’ll go prepare—”
“No need.”
Zhu Lingyi arched an eyebrow. “I know the limits of your medical skills much better than your old man does. Don’t go making a mess of things.”
Evidently, Zhu Lingyi refused to be his guinea pig.
However, hearing her say this, Gao Yin stubbornly stiffened his neck, looking as if he were ready to argue his case.
“I might not be as miraculous as you imagine, but I’m not as useless as you claim! My grades might not be at the very top like that kid Xu Lian, but I’m still on the honor roll! Zhu Lingyi, don’t look down on me too much.”
Zhu Lingyi lazily lifted her eyelids and gave him a look, asking back languidly, “Is that so? Then perhaps it’s because your father is too impressive that I always overlook the ‘exquisite’ nature of his son.”
Normally, Zhu Lingyi would never use such a tone to bicker with him.
It was just that…
Under the effect of the drug, Zhu Lingyi’s chest felt stifled and uncomfortable; she was struggling to catch her breath, and a constant wave of heat kept rising from her lower abdomen.
She could only choose to distract herself.
Seeing that Zhu Lingyi truly was unwell, Gao Yin stood up and pressed the back of his hand against her forehead.
She was running a fever and breaking out in a cold sweat.
Gao Yin sighed helplessly. He turned and ran back to the dormitory to grab a box of medicine, then rushed back. He pushed a flat, milky-white pill out of the foil pack, poured a glass of water, and handed it to Zhu Lingyi.
“Take this. It’ll provide some relief.”
Zhu Lingyi took the pill and the glass but didn’t swallow it immediately.
She looked up at Gao Yin suspiciously.
“You…”
“It’s medicine to make you feel better. Just take it.”
Zhu Lingyi paused, her gaze lingering on the pill in her palm for a moment.
Finally, she swallowed the pill in one crisp motion.
She drained the water in the glass in one gulp.
She slammed the empty glass onto the floor, seemingly venting her silent rage through the action.
Gao Yin sat down beside her, leaning over to pick up the glass.
“Whenever you get angry, you throw things on the floor, just like your fath—”
He cut himself off abruptly halfway through.
But it was too late. Zhu Lingyi’s face instantly darkened.
Zhu Lingyi almost never revealed her inner emotions in front of others. Today, perhaps due to the drug, her cold and abstinent face was devoid of expression. Her lips were downturned, and her fists were tightly clenched on her thighs.
She had completely lost control of her emotions.
Realizing his words had touched Zhu Lingyi’s sore spot, Gao Yin fell silent and dared not continue.
Seeing that she looked like she was about to explode, he felt a bit intimidated and only thought about how to escape the scene quickly.
He needed an excuse…
What excuse could he use?
Suddenly, a commotion sounded outside the door.
Gao Yin looked back.
It was Qin Shuyue who had returned.
Her eyes were cast down, and her face looked exhausted. She was travel-worn and weary; if one didn’t know better, they would think she had spent days traveling a long distance to a foreign land in a jolting horse carriage.
As soon as she entered, her peripheral vision caught Gao Yin and Zhu Lingyi—who was leaning softly against the sofa with her arms spread wide and her legs slightly apart.
This kind of scene…
Qin Shuyue’s internal alarm bells went off instantly. She quickly closed her eyes and turned around to face away from them. She said weakly, “I’m sorry, I didn’t see anything. You two… please continue.”
It seemed there was a misunderstanding.
Gao Yin glanced back at Zhu Lingyi, whose expression was now terrifyingly dark. He felt as if his seat were on fire and only wanted to leave the place immediately.
He waved his hand as he walked toward the door, explaining hurriedly along the way, “She’s not feeling well, I just came to deliver medicine. Uh… you guys, you guys take your time chatting, I won’t disturb you anymore.”
By the time he finished, his hand was already on the doorknob.
With lightning speed, he opened the door, slammed it shut, and vanished without a trace.
In the massive villa-apartment, only Zhu Lingyi’s heavy breathing and the sound of Qin Shuyue, who was too afraid to even breathe loudly, remained.
Qin Shuyue felt a bit at a loss.
She could feel the immense displeasure radiating from Zhu Lingyi right now.
But she didn’t know what to say.
She didn’t even quite understand why Zhu Lingyi was angry.
After a brief silence, Zhu Lingyi, lying on the sofa, suddenly spoke, breaking the quiet.
Her voice was cold, devoid of any emotion. “Get out.”
Qin Shuyue froze for a second.
Her fingers couldn’t help but tremble.
Was she being kicked out? Had she done something wrong?
Had she upset her? When…
Zhu Lingyi didn’t give her a chance to think, nor did she want to hear any defense.
Zhu Lingyi’s voice, laced with annoyance and irritability, drifted through the air. “Didn’t you hear me tell you to get out?”
Qin Shuyue looked directly at Zhu Lingyi on the sofa.
She met a pair of eyes that were hazy with desire, yet shimmering with coldness and abstinence. But her thighs were slightly parted, and her lips were moving—it was a completely seductive posture.
Yet she was like a bristling hedgehog, emitting an aura that warned others not to approach.
Even Qin Shuyue, upon seeing her like this, couldn’t help but take two steps back, her eyes widening slightly.
Zhu Lingyi… what was wrong with her?
In that moment, a memory flashed through her mind—her mother used to have migraines, and when the pain hit, she would look just like this: pained and detached. One hand would block the piercing light from her eyes, while the other would clench in endurance, scratching the soft fur of the sofa cushions, leaving behind messy palm prints.
Zhu Lingyi’s vision suddenly went dark.
Her pupils contracted, and she immediately lowered the hand covering her eyes, sitting up straight with her back as stiff as a board.
She looked as though she were maintaining maximum alertness toward her surroundings.
Suddenly, a cool, small hand brushed against her temple, precisely finding the spot and beginning to rub in gentle circles.
Zhu Lingyi was already struggling with an intolerable physical heat, a scratchy, agonizing itch in her soul, and cold sweat. This sudden stimulus was like a spark hitting dry tinder, making it even more…
She grabbed Qin Shuyue’s small hand that had reached out in the dark. Her mouth was dry, and she swallowed hard. As she held the hand, her burning fingers trembled ever so slightly.
She spoke, her voice somewhat hoarse. “Is this your goal for approaching me?”
Zhu Lingyi pressed her lips into a tight, straight line. She suddenly pulled Qin Shuyue down beneath her, pinning her firmly against the sofa.
The scent of red wine swirled around Qin Shuyue’s nose. She was kneeling with one knee on the soft sofa cushion, while the other knee rested against the edge of the sofa.
Zhu Lingyi tilted Qin Shuyue’s chin up, staring intently at her dark, bright eyes in the darkness. “You want me to take you too, don’t you?”
Qin Shuyue’s mind went blank. She had no idea what the woman, whose breath was heavy with the smell of wine, was talking about.
She had only seen that she had a painful headache and wanted to massage her temples to make her feel better so she wouldn’t kick her out!
How did it turn into her wanting the other woman to “take” her?
Pinned down by Zhu Lingyi, Qin Shuyue felt terrified and began to struggle, her hands moving frantically.
She tried to explain, “No… it’s not like that! I—I just saw that your head hurt, so I wanted to help you massage it to make you feel better, I… mmph!”
Before she could finish, Zhu Lingyi’s lips were about to descend. Qin Shuyue’s head buzzed, and her whole body trembled uncontrollably. A second before the kiss landed, she tightly covered her own mouth with both hands.
“No!”
She let out a startled cry.
Her body shook uncontrollably, filled with intense terror. Like a frightened rabbit, she curled up tightly, begging for mercy.
How did things end up like this…
Wasn’t she having a headache? Why do you have to press down on me and kiss me just because you have a headache?!
Qin Shuyue began to cry involuntary, physiological tears. Her eyes were moist, like a panicked fawn, staring wide-eyed at Zhu Lingyi.
She had never seen Zhu Lingyi so out of control.
In her eyes, Zhu Lingyi had always been like an unreachable iceberg—aloof to her and everyone around her, detached, cold, and stern. She was someone who inspired awe and fear, always appearing difficult to get along with.
So why now…
What was Zhu Lingyi doing pressing down on her?
Facing a stranger suddenly pinning her down, Qin Shuyue felt instinctive fear, but more than that, she felt confusion.
What on earth was Zhu Lingyi doing?
…At that moment, she suddenly remembered the day she first arrived at Heqing Villa, when she saw two girls on Zhu Lingyi’s computer…
The Zhu Lingyi who was now holding Qin Shuyue tightly in her arms had a face of abstinence that was currently flushed with an enchanting, erotic air. The sweet scent of red wine mixed with the cold fragrance of jasmine, pulling the distance between them into something incredibly ambiguous.
Could it be…!
Qin Shuyue looked at her with uncertainty and shock.
A mysterious but very certain suspicion formed in her heart.
