After Becoming Pregnant With The Empress Cat's Cub - Chapter 14.2
Oh no. They must be worried sick. Lan Ye quickly called back. The call was picked up almost instantly, as if they were waiting by the phone.
“Xiao Ye, is that you? Where are you? Why was your watch off?” Lan Shan had been staring at her phone all afternoon. Lan Ye had gone missing once before, when the watch was off and the GPS couldn’t be tracked, Lan Shan was terrified.
“Is that Xiao Ye on the phone?” Yao Li heard the voice and rushed out of the kitchen. She had been worried sick all afternoon without news. “Is it her?”
“I’m sorry, it’s me. I fell asleep at a friend’s house.” Hearing the urgency in their voices, Lan Ye apologized immediately.
Lan Shan: “You child, you scared me to death. Next time you go to a friend’s house, you must tell us.”
Yao Li added: “Yes, you have to let us know. Your aunt was so worried she didn’t drink a drop of water all afternoon.”
Lan Ye promised right away: “I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I’ll definitely pay attention next time.”
After promising to come home immediately, Lan Ye hung up and looked at Ju Rin. “Did you turn off my watch?”
Ju Rin had heard the conversation. She was surprised that a grown human being unreachable for just one afternoon would make her family so anxious, they even sounded like they were on the verge of tears.
“My apologies.” Ju Rin admitted she had turned it off.
Lan Ye guessed she didn’t want the phone to wake her up. “I forgive you, but don’t turn it off next time.” Her situation was unique, she couldn’t blame Lan Shan and Yao Li for being nervous.
Lan Ye checked the time. It was already 5:30 PM. She had slept the whole afternoon. She pulled back the duvet and got out of bed, looking at her pajamas again. “You put these on me?”
Ju Rin nodded.
Lan Ye blinked and looked at Rin, saying seriously: “I like to sleep naked. Don’t dress me next time.”
Ju Rin: “…”
Lan Ye grabbed her clothes from the foot of the bed and started taking off the pajamas. It felt like a hassle, sleeping naked was so much more convenient, you could just put on your clothes and go. Ju Rin turned around while the human changed.
Seeing this, Lan Ye huffed: “Haven’t you seen it all already? Why act shy now?” This woman probably looked her over a dozen times while she was sleeping.
Ju Rin frowned. When had she “seen it all”… it wasn’t appropriate to argue, so Ju Rin headed out. “Get dressed and come downstairs. I’ll take you back.”
She had heard the phone call, the human’s family was urging her to return. Ju Rin couldn’t help but think of her own family… they probably wanted her back too, but not because they were worried about her safety.
Lan Ye saw the wall move again and hurried to dress, she didn’t know how to open that door. Fortunately, the door didn’t close after Ju Rin walked out. Once dressed, Lan Ye hurried downstairs and found everything in order.
It was magical. She remembered the house shaking during the earlier fight, yet everything was intact. She asked about it. Hearing Rin say everything was made of special materials that Lan Ye would break before the furniture would. Lan Ye clicked her tongue. Good thing she ran fast.
“So, who was that person you were fighting?” The other woman had claimed to be a fiancée.
Ju Rin hesitated on how to introduce her before giving a broad summary: “A friend.”
Lan Ye added: “A friend who likes you?”
After a pause, Ju Rin nodded.
Lan Ye smirked. “How many more of these ‘friends’ do you have?”
Ju Rin looked at her, surprised. “What kind of question is that?”
Lan Ye: “I just want to be prepared.”
Ju Rin: “…” There was no way to answer that.
Lan Ye: “Too many to count?”
Ju Rin: “…”
Lan Ye: “Are they all that powerful? If so, next time you meet a friend like that, just introduce me as an ordinary friend.”
Ju Rin raised an eyebrow, her gaze clearly saying: You were the one who introduced yourself as my wife first.
Lan Ye understood. “How was I supposed to know your friends were that scary? That sword just went shing and appeared out of nowhere!” Thinking of that, she looked at the cat’s eye bracelet on Rin’s wrist. “This is actually a weapon!” She reached out to touch it, but Rin raised her hand to avoid her.
Stingy.
Ju Rin carefully rubbed the bracelet and quickened her pace toward the garage. Seeing her act as if she was afraid of being touched again, Lan Ye felt she was being quite petty.
“Where did you buy that bracelet?”
Ju Rin didn’t stop. “You can’t buy it.”
No wonder she treasured it. Lan Ye asked: “Custom made? Where? I want to order one too. Is it expensive?” She had a million now, she wondered if it was enough.
Ju Rin walked to the car, stopped, and looked back with a strange expression. “What do you want one for?”
Lan Ye: “Self-defense. Next time I meet someone who pulls a sword over a disagreement, I can pull one out too.”
Ju Rin gave a light chuckle. “You can’t use it. It requires spiritual power to control.” She opened the car door and sat inside. With her around, this human wouldn’t need one anyway.
An hour later, Ju Rin slowed the car as they entered an old residential area. Seeing Lan Shan’s house from a distance, Lan Ye told her to stop.
Once the car was steady, Lan Ye pointed ahead. “That one, the one with the camellia pot in front. That’s where I’m living. Don’t go to the wrong one tomorrow.”
Ju Rin looked in that direction. The house was still dozens of meters away. She looked at Lan Ye in confusion. “Why stop here?”
Lan Ye looked at her as if she didn’t know the rules. “If we get too close, what if they see you?”
Ju Rin was puzzled. “So what if they see me?” Wasn’t she supposed to be taking her home anyway?
Lan Ye: “Did you bring a gift?”
“A gift?” Ju Rin was confused.
“Exactly. If they see you, they’ll definitely invite you in. You can’t just walk in empty-handed, it’s so rude for a first visit.” Rin wasn’t just a regular friend; she was her partner. It was improper to meet elders for the first time without a gift.
Ju Rin understood. She had indeed heard that humans had such customs. On the way, the human had explained her current situation, she lived with her aunt, who had a beastman partner, and they had a small kitten.
“When you come tomorrow, remember to bring a gift.”
“Fine.”
As Lan Ye unbuckled her seatbelt to get out, she remembered something and turned back to Lin. “Don’t be too stingy.” Remembering the “insufficient balance” during the transfer, Lan Ye patted herself. “If you’re short on cash, just take it from the money I left with you.”
Ju Rin: “…” She looked at the human, thinking that a stingy person probably thinks everyone else is just as cheap as they are. Thinking about how this person had taken a million from her but only planned to buy her a hundred dollar diamond ring gave her a very subtle feeling. This feeling made her overlook the fact that she was actually considering accepting a ring from a human…
She looked at Lan Ye, wanting to ask what kind of gift was appropriate, but she swallowed the words. Better not ask this human, she was clearly unreliable and, given her penny-pinching nature, might suggest something rude. She’d ask Si Qing later, she might know.
Seeing Rin agree not to be stingy, Lan Ye still wasn’t at ease. “Don’t buy something expensive but impractical.”
“Such as?”
“Five thousand dollar underwear.”
Ju Rin: “…” Will she never get over the underwear?
Lan Ye did it on purpose. Seeing Rin speechless felt like payback for all the times Rin had made her feel that way during the drive.
On the way, she had asked several times what happened this afternoon and how she had fallen asleep… Rin insisted she had fallen asleep on her own and denied biting her, claiming she had done nothing except change her into pajamas. Lan Ye didn’t believe it. Otherwise, she must be really unattractive, a beautiful young girl undresses like that and throws herself at her, and they are legally married, it would be quite impolite for Rin not to do something.
“I’m going.” Lan Ye looked at Rin. “I’m guessing there’s no goodbye kiss, right?” After failing to get a kiss several times, Lan Ye was trying a different approach.
Rin: “…” She could hear the sarcasm.
Lan Ye continued: “An early goodnight kiss? No?”
Rin: “…” What even is an ‘early goodnight kiss’?
Lan Ye sighed. “On the first day of marriage, I find out my wife doesn’t like kissing. What should I do?”
Ju Rin: “Hmm?”
Lan Ye: “I’m going to search for the answer to that question when I get back.” After saying that, she got out of the car with a look of disappointment, the light gone from her eyes. Out all day, got married, but didn’t even land one kiss.
Closing the car door, Lan Ye walked forward under the moonlight. After a few steps, her expression shifted back to a grin. Haha, how fun. She was finding that teasing Rin was a blast. Every time she made her speechless, there would be a faint shimmer in those cold amber eyes, like moonlight falling into a clear stream, it was beautiful.
Lan Ye didn’t actually like the version of Rin that seemed indifferent to everything that version felt devoid of life. She preferred this, someone whose emotions could be stirred, whether it was anger or frustration. At least it was human. But ideally, happiness would be better. She’d have to see how to make her happy as they spent more time together.
“Lan Ye.”
Hearing her name called from behind, Lan Ye was surprised. She turned to see Rin getting out of the car. It was the first time she had heard her say her name so formally. It sounded quite nice coming from her lips.
“What’s wrong?” Lan Ye asked as Rin walked up to her.
A hand cupped her face. A very light kiss landed on her left cheek. Lan Ye blinked. The streetlights flickered in unison, and Lan Ye even heard a faint “bzzzt” of electricity. The flickering light reflected in her eyes.
Ju Rin let go and, seeing the girl’s sparkling eyes, said softly, “An early goodnight kiss.” She could satisfy that. A goodnight kiss was part of royal etiquette, it wasn’t considered intimate behavior. Having said that, Ju Rin turned to leave.
“Hey, wait!” Lan Ye snapped back to reality and chased after her, blocking her path. She gave a heavy huff. “Do you have any idea how immoral your behavior is?”
Ju Rin’s eyelashes fluttered. She had expected the human to say something, but not this. Wasn’t she the one begging for a kiss? How is it immoral? In her confusion, she met those black eyes filled with accusation.
Lan Ye pointed to the spot on her left cheek where Rin had just kissed her and said seriously, “You only kissed my left cheek. How am I supposed to explain that to my right cheek? I can’t exactly say it’s because my golden left cheek is more attractive~”
Lan Ye leaned her right cheek forward, unable to stop herself from laughing. “The right cheek needs one too.”
