- Chapter 19 - Inviting My Brother to Watch Something Good
He Chenshuang paused for a moment and looked toward Wen Huihan.
Wen Huihan had his back turned to him. A small tuft of hair was sticking up at the back of his head, but he was completely oblivious, happily playing with his phone.
He Chenshuang walked over, his eyes landing on that tuft of hair. His fingers twitched slightly. “Why did you block me?”
Wen Huihan replied, “Your photography is terrible. Everyone in the comments is scolding you. I didn’t have the heart to let you see it.”
“What are they saying?”
“They’re saying your hands shake like you’ve got Parkinson’s and that you should seek treatment early.”
He Chenshuang let out a soft chuckle. He probably didn’t believe it, but he didn’t press further. Wen Huihan surely had his reasons, and it was better not to ask too much, lest he push too hard and have to coax him later.
They exchanged a few more idle remarks, during which He Chenshuang kept his eyes fixed on that single tuft of hair. Wen Huihan tended to bob his head when he spoke, causing the disobedient strands to quiver. It was, frankly…
Perhaps his perfectionism was acting up, but after enduring it as long as he could, He Chenshuang finally spoke up to remind him, “Your hair.”
Wen Huihan reached up to feel around and indeed found a tuft sticking straight up. He had been in a rush this morning and hadn’t styled it. It must have been caused by last night’s farce, otherwise, there was no way he would have slept his hair into such a mess.
Trying to smooth it with his hand did nothing, so he simply gave up. “Do you have any water? Pour some on your hand and help me press it down.”
He Chenshuang hesitated. “Me?”
Wen Huihan said matter-of-factly, “I can’t see it.”
He Chenshuang said nothing more. He poured a bit of clean mineral water onto his hand, lightly covered the back of Wen Huihan’s head, and slowly smoothed it from top to bottom.
The fluffy texture he had seen last night was now between his fingers. Wen Huihan’s hair quality was excellent, feeling exactly as comfortable as he had imagined, leaving a smooth, non-greasy sensation against his skin.
Once he had restored the wayward strands to their proper place, He Chenshuang withdrew his hand and said tonelessly, “Fixed.”
“Thanks.”
Wen Huihan felt his hair. His image as a high-IQ handsome guy was finally preserved. He just wondered if it had been captured in the photos, he’d have to check carefully later.
He turned around to face He Chenshuang. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed He Chenshuang staring thoughtfully at his own fingers with downcast eyes. Only then did it occur to him, was that gesture just now a bit too intimate?
The “Gay King” attribute was at work again.
Wen Huihan gave a mischievous smile and deliberately grabbed He Chenshuang’s hand, interrupting his thoughts. “Come on, let’s go check out that place over there.”
He Chenshuang was startled and allowed himself to be led away, momentarily forgetting to pull his hand back.
After playing outside all day, when they returned to the hotel that evening, Wen Huihan received a piece of news that was somewhat surprising, yet not entirely unexpected.
“You’re moving to the room next door?”
“Yeah. I asked the front desk this morning. Someone checked out, so I booked it.”
Wen Huihan finally understood what He Chenshuang had been doing out so early this morning. Apparently, he was so afraid of being “attacked” again at night that he had rushed to the front desk the moment he woke up to ask about vacancies. He hadn’t even waited for Wen Huihan to wake up before booking the room, clearly terrified that Wen Huihan would cling to him and refuse to let him go.
And how “convenient” that someone just happened to check out, allowing He Chenshuang to escape once more.
It seemed his behavior yesterday had truly left some psychological scarring on He Chenshuang.
Wen Huihan was now very suspicious that the reason he and He Chenshuang became enemies in his dream was likely because he might actually turn gay in the future. There were many reasons to validate this, the fact that He Chenshuang was so annoyed he had to get out of bed last night was a point worth scrutinizing.
In that case, he couldn’t let He Chenshuang off easily. Being straight isn’t exactly a superpower, is it? He Chenshuang’s act of switching rooms to hide from him had completely ignited Wen Huihan’s competitive spirit.
Consequently, after showering that night, he knocked on the door next door.
After knocking, he waited for two minutes before He Chenshuang finally opened the door, dressed in a bathrobe and arriving late. His hair was damp, and droplets of water still clung to his neck and arms. He had clearly just stepped out of the shower. Seeing Wen Huihan at the door, he paused before asking, “Is something wrong?”
He didn’t even open the door all the way. Who was he protecting himself against? Hadn’t he walked out of the bathroom half-naked back at the dorm? Did he start hiding himself the moment Wen Huihan “turned gay”?
Wen Huihan sneered internally, but his outward expression was mild and kind, the very image of a black-hearted but pleasant-faced villain. “I’m bored. Just came to see what you’re up to.”
He Chenshuang didn’t proactively invite him in, but it didn’t matter. Wen Huihan simply slipped in under the other man’s arm, moving so fast that nobody could have caught him. After all, it was normal for brothers to visit each other’s rooms. It would be weirder to stay in their own rooms and play separately after returning to the hotel.
He Chenshuang’s room layout was identical to his own, nothing much to see. He sat down on the sofa and started playing on his phone.
He Chenshuang stood by the door for a while before closing it and walking in. Seeing Wen Huihan sprawled on the sofa, he couldn’t help but laugh. “I came out in the middle of my shower to open the door for you, and you’re just here to play on your phone?”
Wen Huihan gave a grunt of affirmation. “Go back and finish your shower.”
It had always been like this back in high school. No matter whose house they were at, they would each play on their own phones, only exchanging a few words occasionally.
Seeing He Chenshuang standing there without moving, staring at him, Wen Huihan immediately understood what he was thinking. He said disdainfully, “I won’t turn off the bathroom light this time.”
“Someone’s credibility is basically at zero.”
Despite his words, He Chenshuang walked back toward the bathroom, though he didn’t intend to finish his shower, but rather to blow-dry his hair.
Wen Huihan was busy replying to Vincent’s messages. Vincent had originally come to ask if he wanted to renew his training sessions. After some thought, Wen Huihan politely declined. He had more important things to do right now and couldn’t juggle both for the time being.
Then Vincent began to ask about the progress of his “conquest,” so Wen Huihan casually mentioned the events of the past few days.
[Vincent: Is my gay-dar broken? Your friend still hasn’t made a move after all that?]
That’s because He Chenshuang is homophobic.
Wen Huihan didn’t say that, though. Instead, he asked Vincent, a real gay man, to help brainstorm some ideas.
[Vincent: You need to be more aggressive.]
[Darkened: I think so too.]
This was exactly why Wen Huihan had actively knocked on the door tonight.
By the time he finished chatting with Vincent, He Chenshuang had just emerged from the bathroom. He had changed out of his bathrobe and into his own clothes. With his broad shoulders and long legs, he walked past Wen Huihan looking refreshed, like a model on a runway.
Wen Huihan watched him intently, and a plan suddenly formed in his mind.
Lately, in order to understand the gay community, Wen Huihan had looked up many BL anime series. Somehow, in the process of downloading, an R-rated (18+) one had accidentally gotten mixed in. The last time he clicked it, he had been so startled by the opening that he closed it immediately.
If it was something even, he couldn’t handle, he didn’t believe He Chenshuang could either.
Such a “good thing,” he decided, should be shared with his best friend.
“Let’s watch an anime together,” Wen Huihan suggested, sounding as if it were a casual thought.
He Chenshuang turned his head, his expression shifting slightly. Wen Huihan looked back at him with a sincere face.
After five seconds of silence, He Chenshuang finally nodded. “Sure.”
