After Becoming An Internet Sensation For Pretending To Be An Alpha, I Turned Into An Omega - Chapter 21
During the shoot, Bai Yue kept avoiding eye contact with An Leng.
Her head was lowered, and her gaze was fixed on the forbidden view below An Leng’s neckline.
“Get closer, now switch angles, face each other…”
After a few shots, the photographer adjusted their instructions: “Raise your hands, as if there’s a mirror between you, palms touching…”
Bai Yue remained frozen, her head still lowered.
The photographer, frustrated, continued explaining: “Look at each other first, fingers interlaced slightly… show emotion in your eyes!”
Just as Bai Yue was torn about what to do, An Leng raised her hand first.
“Exactly!” The photographer immediately raised their camera. Bai Yue had no time to hesitate and had to follow suit.
Their hands touched—An Leng’s felt a little cold.
Is the air conditioning on?
The photographer quickly grew dissatisfied and demanded more: “Show a sense of mutual defiance, mutual conquest, but also an equal stalemate!”
Bai Yue: ?
What was it like to be in such close opposition? She didn’t know.
All she knew was that if this continued much longer, she wouldn’t be able to hold on.
The two of them were standing so close that Bai Yue could feel An Leng’s heartbeat.
The camera clicked incessantly, capturing countless photos.
Her breathing grew increasingly labored, her mind drifting.
A burning heat spread from her neck upward.
She raised her hand to call for a stop, hastily apologized to the crew, and hurried toward the dressing room, lifting her skirt as she went.
In the bathroom mirror, Bai Yue saw a faint blush spreading across her cheeks. Her ears burned crimson, their scalding heat a testament to her inner turmoil.
Now that she was away from An Leng, her panic had subsided somewhat, but the flush on her skin refused to fade anytime soon.
She sniffed, wondering if the perfume in the air was unusually overpowering.
“What’s wrong?” Wang Xi asked, following her inside.
Bai Yue was fiercely dedicated to her craft. She had once spent an entire night in the studio perfecting a single dance move. Under normal circumstances, she would never leave the set mid-shoot.
“I don’t know,” Bai Yue said, sounding helpless. “I just feel a little unwell, but I can’t put my finger on it.”
“Are you running a fever?” Wang Xi asked, pressing the back of her hand to Bai Yue’s forehead. She then took a wet wipe from her bag and handed it to her. “Cool yourself down. We have one more outfit to shoot later, so hang in there.”
“This outfit is enough?” Bai Yue asked, pointing to her skirt. “The makeup matches the outfit, and if I wipe it off now, I’ll have to redo it later. That would be a hassle.”
Wang Xi nodded. “I’ve been watching the footage. This is plenty.” She took out her phone and asked her assistant to go to the pharmacy and buy some fever medication.
Their second outfit was still perfectly coordinated.
Bai Yue was still in a skirt, but this one was much more casual compared to the previous two.
An Leng wore a suit—blazer, tie, and all—matching Bai Yue’s skirt in color.
The wide shoulders of the blazer alone gave An Leng an imposing presence.
This was the An Leng Bai Yue was most familiar with.
Though they still had to interact, there was no need to display much emotion. All she had to do was maintain her cool demeanor and interact with the camera.
The shoot went smoothly.
In the dressing room, Bai Yue was removing her makeup when Wang Xi handed her a cup of warm water.
“You did great just now,” Wang Xi said, though it was hard to tell if it was a compliment. “Maybe because you’re feeling unwell, your expression looked even grumpier than usual.”
Eye makeup is hard to remove. The makeup artist pressed a cotton pad soaked in makeup remover against her eyes. Bai Yue lazily asked, “Where’s Director An?”
“…She must be taking off her makeup right now,” Wang Xi said, then hesitated before asking tentatively, “How come I never realized you two were so close before?”
Bai Yue’s heart skipped a beat at these words. To avoid arousing Wang Xi’s suspicions, she composed herself and replied coolly, “When have we ever been close?”
As she finished speaking, she completed applying her eye makeup.
Someone knocked on the dressing room door.
A staff member entered, holding a thermos.
Bai Yue recognized it immediately, but upon closer inspection, she asked, “…What’s this?”
“Director An asked me to bring it to you. She had to rush back to work.” The staff member pointed toward the door as explanation.
“She was just here!” Bai Yue exclaimed, startled.
“Yes, but she didn’t come in for some reason.” The staff member turned to find Wang Xi, explaining that the video had finished copying.
The thermos contained water, and when she unscrewed the lid, she found soaked red dates and wolfberries.
Bai Yue lowered her gaze, took a slow sip, then pulled out her phone and sent a text to An Leng.
The final edit and layout of the video took some time, so the company’s official account released a behind-the-scenes clip in the evening to generate buzz.
The clip was short but clearly well-edited, with slow-motion shots interspersed with the music.
Only four outfits appeared in the video, and An Leng only appeared for a few seconds. This was intentional, to keep some suspense.
At the end of the video was a short interview, a little bonus for fans. Bai Yue, lightly made up, took the microphone and waited for the host’s question.
Host: “This is probably Bai Yue’s first magazine shoot. How is it different from your previous photo shoots?”
Bai Yue answered without hesitation: “We tried out many different looks, some of which I’ve never experienced before. You can all look forward to it.”
When the video was released, An Leng had just gotten home.
She only turned on a warm yellow night light to illuminate the room. After changing clothes, she quietly settled into the sofa and took out her phone to watch the video.
“Fake prude…” An Leng muttered under her breath when she heard Bai Yue’s answer.
The video continued to play. The host asked, “Everyone is really looking forward to your birthday party. Will there be any surprises?”
This was a highly anticipated event among fans. Although the video had just been uploaded, the comment stream was already flooded with messages expressing excitement.
Bai Yue maintained her mystery. “I can’t reveal much yet, but you can definitely look forward to it.”
The host pressed on, “We know Director An was involved in this shoot. How was it working together?”
Hearing this, An Leng reached out and turned off the screen, swiping away the chaotic, flying comments.
In the video, Bai Yue smiled faintly, as if pondering the question. She looked up and answered the camera, “Collaborating with Director An was very comfortable, so I’m really looking forward to our next project… She’s a wonderful person and very caring.”
Very comfortable…
The interview continued on the phone, but An Leng’s thoughts drifted back to their interactions during the day’s shoot.
She recalled Bai Yue’s tense expression, how she barely glanced An Leng’s way.
Comfortable? More like awkward.
Bai Yue had clearly spoken such stiff words to distance herself.
An Leng pursed her lips and switched to WeChat. Bai Yue’s chat was pinned at the top.
She still hadn’t replied to Bai Yue’s “Thank you” message from after work that afternoon.
So comfortable…
She sighed, but her upturned lips betrayed her.
[ Don’t worry about it. ] An Leng typed back.
