After Becoming a Scummy Alpha, the Movie Queen Just Wants to Pamper Her Wife - Chapter 89.1
“Sister Wu!” The name slipped out before Xi Xiaoyan could stop herself, startling her. Damn, how could it come so naturally?!
In an instant, her face flushed all the way down to her neck.
However, she wasn’t the type to blush easily her reddened cheeks were purely out of embarrassment.
Ignoring the heat in her face, she turned sideways to look at Meng Chuwu.
Meng Chuwu was already looking back at her, a smile still in her eyes, completely unfazed by Xiaoyan’s sudden and familiar address.
“I’m so weird! Calling you ‘sister’ out of nowhere like that.”
“I’m sixteen, born on July 10th,” Meng Chuwu said.
She wasn’t the type to get close to people quickly, but with Xi Xiaoyan, she unconsciously forgot all about keeping her distance.
Just like how she had smiled naturally upon seeing her this morning; just like how, upon waking up at the desk earlier, she had invited her to go home together; just like this moment, voluntarily telling her her own birthday.
“So that means you’re a few months older than me. My birthday is in mid-November.”
“Just arrived at a new school and already have a little sister, what a great start.”
Xi Xiaoyan’s blushing face was absolutely adorable, making Meng Chuwu’s heart feel as light and fluffy as a cloud.
Right now, she seemed to be regretting her impulsiveness, while also secretly checking to see if Meng Chuwu was laughing at her for presumptuously calling her “sister.”
Her face was so red that Meng Chuwu couldn’t help but want to pinch it.
If she had known that transferring schools would lead to meeting such an adorable and soft-spoken little sister, Meng Chuwu wouldn’t have needed her parents’ patient persuasion she would have enrolled at the start of the semester.
“So, you like being a big sister?”
“You’re the one who called me ‘sister’ on your own!”
“I—” Xi Xiaoyan was at a loss for words.
It was true, but she hadn’t meant it!
How could she possibly call her new deskmate “sister” for no reason? Ah, if her classmates heard, wouldn’t her aloof persona crumble into the abyss?! Xi Xiaoyan, oh Xi Xiaoyan, who would have thought you’d have a day like this!
“I accidentally called you that just now,” she tried to save face, only to dig herself deeper.
“I’m several months older than you, little sister. Why not just go with it?”
“No way, the other students might misunderstand.”
“What misunderstanding could there be in calling me ‘sister’?”
“No way, I don’t need another sister anyway.”
“Xi Xiaoyan, I don’t care. You can’t just love me and leave me.”
“Meng Chuwu, that’s not how you use the phrase ‘love and leave’!”
“I don’t care!”
“I won’t call you that!”
“Xi Xiaoyan, sooner or later, I’ll make you call me ‘sister’.”
“Meng Chuwu, since you’ve heard I have privileges, you must have also heard that I have bodyguards, right?!”
As soon as Xi Xiaoyan said it, she felt as if she were acting coquettishly.
Words like these held no intimidation instead, they invisibly and rapidly closed the distance between them.
Sigh! Her persona was truly shattered.
“You wouldn’t really have your bodyguards lay a hand on your first deskmate and sister, would you?”
Xi Xiaoyan was speechless.
It seemed the other girl had already started acting like an older sister, certain of her position.
Sigh, so annoying! Meng Chuwu clearly had no idea about her aloof image.
The key point was, Xi Xiaoyan didn’t actually want to oppose her at this moment, she felt somewhat torn, half-resisting and half-yielding.
The two of them continued standing under the school building’s corridor, neither making a move to leave.
They weren’t waiting for the rain to stop.
Rather, neither wanted to go home for some inexplicable reason, and neither wanted to part ways just yet.
The feeling of regret for not having met sooner clung stubbornly to both their hearts. Their gazes met from time to time, and though most of the time they simply exchanged faint smiles without a word, they both inexplicably felt as though they had shared a great deal.
It was the first time Xi Xiaoyan had felt so reluctant to part with someone.
It was the first time Meng Chuwu had found it so hard to let someone go.
And so, and so—
Xi Xiaoyan’s cheeks flushed hot again. What in the world was going on?
In less than a day, she had already felt like she was falling in love with someone for the second time. Even love at first sight shouldn’t be this overwhelming!
Ah, how annoying, what does Meng Chuwu think of me?
She’s always smiling at me and acting so familiar. Could it be that she’s falling in love too?
She keeps looking at me so openly that must mean she’s falling in love!
If that’s the case, why doesn’t she just ask me out right here?
Even though school rules forbid minors from dating, still—
Plenty of minors have asked me out! So, will Meng Chuwu ask me out?
Damn it, rainy days always bring darkness earlier. It wasn’t even 6:30 yet, but the sky was already thick with dusk.
“It doesn’t look like this rain will stop anytime soon,” Xi Xiaoyan said, gazing at the wet cement ground.
Small puddles had already formed on the ground, and the ripples from raindrops collided and overlapped, much like the inexplicably tangled thoughts swirling in her heart at that moment.
“Are you in a hurry to go home?” Meng Chuwu, wearing white shoes, idly traced a pattern on the ground with the tip of her right foot.
Her tone was casual, her question trivial,
Yet it fell on Xi Xiaoyan’s heart like the drizzling rain before them, stirring ripples.
Soon, though, the ripples faded without a trace.
“Not in a hurry. After all, we day students don’t have evening self-study.”
“Then, keep me company and watch the rain for a while,” Meng Chuwu said, then turned her head to look at Xi Xiaoyan again.
Completely oblivious to the darkening sky.
“What’s so interesting about rain?”
It wasn’t that Xi Xiaoyan was oblivious to romance; it was just that her heart was too unsettled.
Her proud self-esteem wouldn’t allow her to be so accommodating to someone she had known for less than a day.
Even though she really wanted to stand there with her, doing nothing, watching the rain.
“Xi Xiaoyan!”
“What?”
“Let’s go back.”
“The rain hasn’t stopped. How will you get back?”
“My home is close. It’s just a ten-minute walk.” With that, Meng Chuwu dashed into the rain first.
Realizing Xi Xiaoyan hadn’t followed, she abruptly stopped, turned back, and called out to her, “Xi Xiaoyan, hurry up! If we wait any longer, it’ll be completely dark.”
Her voice, in the dimming twilight, sounded especially bright.
There was an infectious quality to it that made one’s heart flutter involuntarily.
Just as Xi Xiaoyan was about to follow, she remembered something.
“Sister Wu, wait a moment!”
She had said not to call her “sister,” yet the word slipped out more naturally than anyone else’s.
Meng Chuwu, standing in the light rain, froze for a moment before snapping back to reality and smiling again.
The fine raindrops quickly dampened her incredibly charming smiling face.
Xi Xiaoyan lowered her head, took an apricot-yellow umbrella from her backpack, opened it skillfully, and rushed toward Meng Chuwu.
Only when the umbrella was held over her head did Meng Chuwu realize her face was wet. “Didn’t you say you didn’t have an umbrella?”
Xi Xiaoyan gave her a slightly embarrassed smile. “I forgot.”
“Let me,” Meng Chuwu said, taking the umbrella from her. She was taller, so it was easier for her to hold.
“Wait a moment, wipe yourself.” Xi Xiaoyan took a handkerchief from her school uniform pocket and handed it over.
Meng Chuwu’s body noticeably stiffened for a moment. When she finally reached out to take the white handkerchief, their hands accidentally brushed lightly against each other.
It was brief, yet it created a palpable connection that couldn’t be ignored.
The faint, electric tingle instantly swept away the haze and gloom in their hearts. Under the umbrella, within that small patch of dim yellow light, an unusual tenderness seized them both.
“Your handkerchief is so soft,” Meng Chuwu’s voice was a bit stiff, and so was her gaze.
As soon as the handkerchief touched her forehead, her wiping motion froze abruptly.
The refreshing, almost spring-like scent quickly and intensely awakened the tenderness buried deep within her heart.
Xi Xiaoyan averted her gentle gaze. “Hurry and wipe your face is covered in raindrops.”
“Ah, right!” Meng Chuwu wiped her face hastily a few times.
Then, the two of them walked toward the school gate.
During the silent stretch of the journey,
both of them were lost in thought, recalling that accidental touch.
A tiny spark continued to burn in their hearts all the way.
To suppress her wildly racing heartbeat, Xi Xiaoyan broke the silence.
“You can just walk me to the parking lot next to the school gate. The driver should already be waiting for me there.”
“Xi Xiaoyan, just how wealthy is your family?”
“I don’t really know! Why are you suddenly asking that?”
“You have bodyguards, and a driver.”
“Actually, the bodyguard thing is just a rumor. The Luo Pi sisters are the daughters of our family driver. They’re also boarders, but they occasionally look out for me.”
“Come a little closer your shoulder is getting wet.” As she spoke, Meng Chuwu instinctively tilted the umbrella toward Xi Xiaoyan.
The fabric of the summer school uniform was thin, and their elbows occasionally brushed against each other. The clearer contact sent waves of subdued electric currents through Xi Xiaoyan’s body not uncomfortable, but enough to make her even more flustered.
Under the apricot-yellow umbrella, that small, dry space seemed to trap the fruity fragrance of Meng Chuwu’s scent. The warm aura made Xi Xiaoyan’s heart race wildly, as if hundreds of colorful butterflies were fluttering inside her chest. How could she possibly care about the light rain sprinkling on her shoulders.
If she got any closer, she would completely fall apart! Startled by this intense and vivid sensation, Xi Xiaoyan suddenly halted. As soon as Meng Chuwu stopped, Xi Xiaoyan dashed into the rain, running about five or six meters before turning back and shouting, “Meng Chuwu, you keep the umbrella! See you tomorrow!”
Without waiting for a response, she turned and sprinted toward the parking lot.
The girl’s white figure in the dusky drizzle was like a vivid stroke of spring, deeply and clearly imprinted in Meng Chuwu’s mind.
With Xi Xiaoyan’s help, and considering that people are generally more friendly toward good-looking classmates, Meng Chuwu quickly integrated into the advanced class.
Although it was an international school, the teachers still maintained a rigorous focus on academics.
The advanced class was for students preparing for the college entrance exams, while those planning to study abroad were placed in the international class.
Xi Xiaoyan was deeply worried that Meng Chuwu might struggle to adapt to the high-intensity learning environment, especially with the first monthly exam of the sophomore year just around the corner. Although there was no system of assigning classes or seating based on grades here, Xi Xiaoyan felt that having a deskmate at the bottom of the rankings would be an embarrassment.
As a result, she felt an unusually heavy burden on her shoulders during this period!
In her mind, a top student’s deskmate could only be another top student, this was her only requirement for Meng Chuwu as her deskmate.
“Do you understand everything the teachers are explaining?” she would ask with earnest concern.
“I understand.”
“I’m not worried about your English, of course, but what about math, physics, and chemistry? Are you sure you don’t need my help?”
“No need.”
Xi Xiaoyan thought Meng Chuwu was either being overly polite or just shy.
As the monthly exam drew nearer, everyone was quietly competing and pushing themselves.
During breaks, many classmates eagerly @-mentioned Meng Chuwu in group chats, urging her not to hesitate if she needed any help.
Meng Chuwu responded to each one, saying she wouldn’t hold back.
While everyone was busy solving practice problems, Xi Xiaoyan noticed that Meng Chuwu was still leisurely gazing at her with a smile, which made her extremely anxious.
