After Becoming a Scummy Alpha, I Met the Reborn Omega - Chapter 40
After finishing the show’s recording, Bai Qin returned to her normal life.
Fortunately, Miss Hua had been busy lately collaborating with the Mo Corporation and had no time to bother her.
Bai Qin was more than happy to be left alone, falling back into her comfortably reclusive lifestyle.
Aside from Gu Ruoyun persistently messaging her, Bai Qin’s past few days had been fairly peaceful.
Though she tried to act indifferent, every time she saw a message from Gu Ruoyun, she couldn’t help but feel a flicker of joy.
And whenever that surge of happiness rose in her chest, Bai Qin wanted to slap herself awake.
With nothing better to do, Bai Qin spent her time surfing the internet.
As a professional paparazzo, it was crucial to stay sharp about the entertainment world.
Seeing some fan-made CP (couple pairing) videos of herself and Gu Ruoyun, Bai Qin couldn’t resist typing in the comment section:
“Yu Qin, Gu Zong is real!”
She was about to use a hundred sock-puppet accounts to flood the comments section when someone knocked on her door.
Bai Qin, who had been preparing for an all-night online battle, was immediately annoyed.
Who could it be at this hour?
Still, she got up and opened the door irritably.
“Who is it?”
Her tone wasn’t exactly friendly.
To her surprise, it was Gu Ruoyun standing at the door, looking as gentle and composed as ever.
Bai Qin took a deep breath.
She had been holed up at home for several days — her hair a messy nest, her clothes a loose, oversized white T-shirt, hardly a picture of elegance.
Her contact lenses were long taken out, replaced by a pair of clunky black-rimmed glasses.
She hadn’t even bothered with any makeup.
Bai Qin knew exactly how she looked — absolutely not the way she wanted to appear in front of someone she liked.
Panicking, Bai Qin slammed the door shut with a loud bang, leaving Gu Ruoyun standing outside.
The loud noise startled Gu Ruoyun.
For a moment, her heart ached — she thought Bai Qin was rejecting her.
But no matter what treatment she received, Gu Ruoyun was prepared to endure it.
After all, she had made her choice and was ready to accept the consequences.
Knock knock.
Two soft knocks followed, along with Gu Ruoyun’s familiar voice.
Bai Qin felt momentarily dazed.
She had once wondered if this woman was always this gentle — no matter what happened, she never lost her temper.
Back then, Bai Qin had liked that about her.
But later, she realized that Gu Ruoyun treated everything in life with a kind of detached acceptance, letting things unfold naturally.
Even their marriage had been arranged without much personal will.
How could someone like that ever act impulsively?
Maybe this, showing up uninvited and persistently knocking on her door after the divorce, was Gu Ruoyun’s most rebellious act.
“Qin Qin, open the door,” Gu Ruoyun coaxed softly.
After hesitating for a long while, Bai Qin finally cracked the door open.
“I was just worried you might disturb the neighbors,” she muttered under her breath, giving a half-hearted explanation.
If the neighbors found out that a movie queen was knocking on her door in the middle of the night, it would definitely be headline news by tomorrow.
Still, Bai Qin didn’t say it so bluntly.
She scratched her messy hair and flopped onto the sofa, casually curling her long, fair legs underneath her — the very picture of at-home laziness.
Gu Ruoyun stepped inside and immediately noticed the chaotic state of the room:
instant noodle cups littered the table, trash scattered on the floor, clothes thrown carelessly over the sofa.
She didn’t seem to mind, though.
Without a word, she started cleaning up naturally.
“What are you even doing here?” Bai Qin asked, her tone somewhat defiant.
She knew full well she was a mess.
In the past, Gu Ruoyun had pampered her endlessly.
Later, when Bai Qin became a paparazzo, she often camped outside for days, sometimes going a month without washing her hair — definitely no time for cleaning up.
Bad habits had taken root.
Now Gu Ruoyun had seen her at her absolute worst — so Bai Qin simply gave up pretending.
Grabbing a can of beer off the coffee table, she started drinking right in front of her.
Gu Ruoyun frowned slightly when she saw the beer but didn’t comment on the messy room.
Instead, she spoke gently, “You shouldn’t drink so much. Your stomach’s not in good shape.”
Bai Qin’s stomach had always been weak — something that only worsened after she became a paparazzo, living off irregular meals and stress.
Gu Ruoyun’s concern was sincere, but Bai Qin didn’t appreciate it.
“None of your business. You sound like a nagging old lady,” she retorted.
Though she said it like that, Bai Qin still put the beer down.
Watching Gu Ruoyun tidying up the room, she couldn’t help but think back to their life together in the past.
Back then, their relationship had been hidden so well.
Bai Qin constantly worried that being with her would negatively impact Gu Ruoyun’s career.
But at home, Gu Ruoyun had always cared for her tenderly, like an older sister, attentive to every little need.
“Running over in the middle of the night just to clean my place?
If the paparazzi caught this, you’d kiss your actress career goodbye,” Bai Qin muttered.
Gu Ruoyun, who was indeed a good ten years older than Bai Qin, felt a twinge of sadness hearing her teased as an old nag.
Age… was something she inevitably minded a little.
Especially since her Qin Qin was still so young, so lively — with no shortage of admirers.
In truth, Bai Qin wasn’t exactly the most beautiful woman around; compared to the countless stunning faces Gu Ruoyun had encountered, Bai Qin’s features were at most innocent, maybe charming because of their natural purity.
Bai Qin had once feared she would drag Gu Ruoyun down, but Gu Ruoyun had long since stopped caring about such things.
Maybe she had cared once, but the days without Bai Qin had been even harder to bear.
Fame and fortune no longer meant much to her — she only wanted Bai Qin.
Seeing Gu Ruoyun so silently enduring everything, Bai Qin felt a pang in her chest.
She stood up and awkwardly helped clean the mess too.
As she moved, Gu Ruoyun’s gaze involuntarily drifted downward — the sight of Bai Qin’s slender, pale legs exposed under her loose T-shirt sent a flash of desire across her otherwise gentle eyes.
“Qin Qin…” she called softly.
Bai Qin stiffened immediately.
She hated it when Gu Ruoyun called her like that — with such tenderness that it made her heart melt.
Back then, in countless nights tangled up together, that voice had always whispered in her ear, breath hot against her skin, chanting her name again and again.
Calling her name while refusing to stop — pushing her, teasing her, coaxing her until she couldn’t help but whimper,
“Jiejie… I can’t take it anymore…”
Although Bai Qin had always kept her secondary gender a secret from the public, she had indeed differentiated into an Omega.
At one point, she had even suspected it was because she had always been on the bottom with Gu Ruoyun — leading to her Omega transformation.
It was rumored that Gu Ruoyun had differentiated into an Alpha.
Precisely because of this, her ex-husband had never dared cross certain lines with her.
Still, outwardly, Gu Ruoyun’s temperament and appearance resembled that of an Omega —
so few people knew her true nature.
“You should go back,” Bai Qin said firmly, trying to send her away again.
“It’s late.”
She didn’t want to drown in memories.
Self-pity wasn’t her style.
No matter how sweet the past had been, it was the past.
She shouldn’t linger there.
“Qin Qin, you’re really not going to let me stay?” Gu Ruoyun said with a hint of grievance.
“It’s pouring outside… it’s hard for me to get back alone.”
And just like that, the heavens seemed to conspire with her —
it really was pouring rain outside.
Bai Qin gritted her teeth.
She knew Gu Ruoyun wasn’t truly alone.
Surely, there were bodyguards, assistants…
But faced with that pitiful look, she couldn’t bear it.
“Whatever. Do what you want.
But I don’t have a spare room for you,” she grumbled.
“I’ll sleep on the sofa,” Gu Ruoyun said happily, as if she had won a major victory.
As long as Bai Qin softened even a little, she had faith she could win her back — she had patience.
Just then, Bai Qin’s phone rang.
She answered it immediately when she saw it was Lin Changsheng — one of her big clients, someone she couldn’t afford to offend.
“Chen Lin? You want to find Chen Lin?” Bai Qin asked, slightly surprised.
“I’ll ask around for you, President Lin. But… why are you suddenly looking for Chen Lin?”
“Bai Qin, I know you must be aware of something. Whether it’s Mo Zhaoyan or Hua Miaomiao investigating me, I don’t care. But you should know very well which is more dangerous: offending them or offending me,” Lin Changsheng’s voice was unexpectedly cold.
Bai Qin swallowed hard. No — she didn’t want to offend anyone. Lin Changsheng’s tone brought back memories of the person he used to be. How could she have forgotten? Maybe it was because he had been so easygoing lately.
“Don’t worry, President Lin. I’ll send you Chen Lin’s address shortly,” Bai Qin said quickly.
“Good.”
Lin Changsheng hadn’t fully recovered her memories yet, but she guessed that Bai Qin knew more than she let on. So she deliberately pressured her.
After hanging up, Bai Qin finally let out a breath of relief. Gu Ruoyun had been quietly watching the whole time. In her absence, her beloved had no one to protect her and could only rely on herself. It shouldn’t have to be like this.
“Lin Changsheng? Are you that afraid of her?” Gu Ruoyun asked.
“Lin Changsheng has deep connections. I found out she even has her own research base. If she wanted to go independent, not even Mo Corporation or Huayang Group could easily compete with her.”
“You’re amazing, Bai Qin,” Gu Ruoyun said warmly. She had investigated Bai Qin for years. Unfortunately, Bai Qin, being a top-tier paparazzo, had hidden her personal information extremely well. All the public knew was that she was a famous name in the entertainment world.
Being praised by the one she loved most, Bai Qin felt like she could sprout a tail and wag it proudly. “I’m not your caged canary anymore,” she said with a playful smile.
“You never were,” Gu Ruoyun replied gently. “You’ve always been free.”
And she truly was. Gu Ruoyun was a generous patron — providing Bai Qin with food, clothing, housing, and whatever she needed — but never restricting her freedom.
“Hmph,” Bai Qin snorted lightly.
While speaking, she sent Chen Lin’s address to Lin Changsheng and began checking Chen Lin’s latest movements on her computer.
Gu Ruoyun stood behind her, quietly watching her screen. Bai Qin didn’t notice. A minimized video titled “Desireful Qin and Indulgent Gu” was still playing at the bottom of the screen — and Gu Ruoyun caught a glimpse of it.
Gu Ruoyun’s ears turned red. She quickly turned away and busied herself with tidying up the apartment.
Bai Qin didn’t drive Gu Ruoyun away. After finishing her tasks for Lin Changsheng, she went to take a shower. Fresh and clean, she came back into the living room wearing a loose, white T-shirt.
Gu Ruoyun had already bathed and had fallen asleep on the sofa, looking exhausted. Bai Qin gazed at her tenderly. After so many years apart, she had dreamed of this face countless nights.
Listening to Gu Ruoyun’s soft breathing, Bai Qin made sure she was truly asleep. Then she quietly fetched a blanket and gently covered her.
Kneeling down on one knee, Bai Qin gently brushed Gu Ruoyun’s hair with her fingers. Only at moments like this did she dare to look at her so closely.
Maybe she was too absorbed, because the water still dripping from her damp hair accidentally fell onto Gu Ruoyun’s face.
Overwhelmed by emotion, Bai Qin couldn’t help but want to kiss her. She leaned closer, their breaths intertwined — just like countless times before. When their lips were about to meet, Bai Qin suddenly turned slightly and instead pressed a light kiss onto Gu Ruoyun’s forehead, like a dragonfly skimming the surface of water.
“Goodnight, sister,” she whispered softly.
Drying her hair with a towel, Bai Qin stood up, turned off the lights, and went back to her room.
After she left, Gu Ruoyun slowly opened her eyes. She gently touched the place where Bai Qin had kissed her and whispered in return, “Goodnight, Qin Qin.”
