After Becoming a Scummy Alpha, I Became a Slave to My Beloved Wife - Chapter 54
“Jiang Nian.”
Qiao Wenyu wrapped her arms around her from behind, not giving her a chance to leave. “Xiao Nian, I’m sorry. You’ve always been the one giving, and you think I don’t love you… I’m sorry, I…”
“That’s enough, Qiao Wenyu. Let’s end it here.”
Jiang Nian gently pried her fingers off her own waist, her eyes rimmed red.
Qiao Wenyu stepped in front of her. “Then why are you crying? If we’re really over, what about the mark on me? Did you wash it off, or did you have your gland removed?”
“How could I let you remove your gland…” Jiang Nian’s voice faltered instantly. She raised a hand to cover her eyes, not wanting Qiao Wenyu to see the emotions in them.
“Oh? So did you wash the mark then? Hmm?”
Qiao Wenyu leaned forward, gently moving Jiang Nian’s hand away from her face. “Why are you crying, then? Aren’t you the one who said you didn’t want me anymore?”
Jiang Nian looked away, flustered.
“My father knows I own a company now—and he knows we’re serious about each other. That time you came to the set to take me out for dinner? One of Jiang Fenyun’s people took a photo and sent it to him.”
Qiao Wenyu folded her arms and looked Jiang Nian straight in the eyes. “That was the one time Jiang Fenyun’s ‘good intentions’ backfired. She wanted my father to step in and split us apart. But she didn’t expect him to try and bankrupt your family instead. Xiao Nian, when my father loses control, he’ll do anything—just to crush me, just to see me suffer.”
Jiang Nian’s heart clenched. So, Qiao Wenyu… had known everything all along.
“Xiao Nian, we promised to trust each other. Can you believe in me this time? I swear—I will bring him down.”
Her eyes shone with a fierce, unwavering determination.
How could Jiang Nian say no?
She loved her so much. Letting go had been her way of protecting Qiao Wenyu—her way of giving her a better future.
But now Qiao Wenyu was telling her… there was another way to have that future—together.
So…
Jiang Nian clenched her fists, but still couldn’t bring herself to let go of the person she loved.
How could she possibly give someone like Qiao Wenyu away?
“You’re sure I… can?” she asked quietly.
Can I really stand beside you?
Qiao Wenyu was both furious and fond of her in that moment. She stepped forward and gave her a deep, passionate kiss in response.
Then, with a playful glint in her eyes, her cheeks slightly flushed, she tilted her head and smiled up at Jiang Nian.
“Darling, what do you think? As for your project—I’ll have my company guarantee it.”
“Jiejie…” Jiang Nian choked out, her voice hoarse.
Qiao Wenyu cupped the back of her neck and brushed her fingertips softly along her skin.
“If you really think I don’t love you… that would hurt me. Don’t say things like that again. Even if you’re lying—I don’t want to hear it.”
“I’m sorry, Jiejie. I just couldn’t bear to see you suffer because of me. I was afraid I couldn’t give you the happiness you wanted.” Jiang Nian’s nose was red as tears welled in her eyes. “I probably seem childish to you… but I really want to protect you.”
The two of them held each other tightly.
Their long-separated pheromones intertwined again at last.
One month later, Bai Ye was preparing to leave the country.
Before she departed, Jiang Nian decided to see her off. After all, she had dragged her back for nothing and caused such a dramatic misunderstanding—she felt more than a little guilty.
At the airport departure lounge, Jiang Nian and Qiao Wenyu both came to say goodbye.
“Xiao Yu, really not coming with me?” Bai Ye said with a teasing tone as she looked at Qiao Wenyu.
Jiang Nian immediately caught the joke. She brought her fist to her lips, cleared her throat, and said seriously:
“President Bai, this lady is my wife.”
“Oh, now you remember?” Bai Ye laughed, amused. Then she pulled Jiang Nian aside.
Qiao Wenyu stood quietly nearby, watching the two people whispering in the corner.
Jiang Nian leaned against the wall. “What is it? Did you forget to go over some work details?”
“With Xiao Yu helping you like that, and you’re still talking business with me?” Bai Ye paused, then suddenly turned serious. “Jiang Nian, I may have handed Xiao Yu over to you, but if you dare treat her badly—know that I will come back and take her away.”
“Of course. I’ll spend my whole life loving her.”
Bai Ye rolled her eyes. “Alright, enough with the cheesy lines.”
“Then you should hurry up and find someone too,” Jiang Nian teased, giving her a light pat on the shoulder.
Bai Ye gave her a side-eye. “Kid, show some respect. I’m a year older than Xiao Yu.”
“Fine, Big Sister Bai—” Jiang Nian exaggerated the title like a child trying to suck up, making Bai Ye laugh despite herself.
The boarding announcement for Bai Ye’s flight echoed through the terminal.
She glanced at the time. “Alright, I’ve got to go. You and Xiao Yu take care. If anything happens, reach out anytime—I’ll always help you two.”
“Find a gorgeous omega to marry—that’s the best help you can give me,” Jiang Nian joked.
Bai Ye shook her head, walked toward Qiao Wenyu, and leaned in to whisper something in her ear.
Qiao Wenyu’s face instantly turned bright red. She lowered her head, not saying a word.
Jiang Nian noticed something was off. She took a step toward them but Bai Ye turned and waved casually.
“Bye. If you two want to visit me, let me know in advance.”
Jiang Nian didn’t get the chance to ask. She walked back to Qiao Wenyu’s side, tilting her head.
“Jiejie, what did she say to you?”
“N-Nothing…” Qiao Wenyu quickly raised her hand to cover her face.
Jiang Nian was instantly curious. On the way out of the airport, she kept circling around her.
“Come on, Jiejie, tell me! What did Bai Ye say?”
Eventually, Qiao Wenyu gave in, clearly flustered. She shut her eyes and whispered in a voice barely louder than a mosquito’s:
“She… said… May you have a child soon…”
The words drifted softly into Jiang Nian’s ears. Her face turned scarlet in an instant, and she crouched down on the spot, completely overwhelmed.
One was standing, the other squatting, and both of their faces were as red as ripe tomatoes.
After squatting for a while, Jiang Nian stood back up, took Qiao Wenyu’s hand, and murmured shyly,
“Let’s… give it our best shot.”
Qiao Wenyu froze—then burst out laughing, her eyes crinkling, her voice filled with warmth.
“Alright. Let’s give it our best shot.”
Jiang Nian laughed too. The awkwardness of just moments ago melted away, and the two walked out of the airport hand-in-hand, both smiling softly.
But as they walked further, Jiang Nian suddenly felt something was off.
The smile on her face slowly faded.
From the crowd up ahead, a flurry of cameras suddenly appeared. The moment the media caught sight of Qiao Wenyu and Jiang Nian holding hands at the airport entrance, they rushed over like wolves that had caught the scent of fresh meat.
Flashes exploded like fireworks. Qiao Wenyu winced, lifting a hand to shield her eyes.
In mere seconds, the two were completely surrounded by reporters.
“Miss Qiao Wenyu, what is your relationship with Miss Jiang Nian?”
“Miss Qiao, rumors say you and President Jiang have been secretly married for some time. Can you confirm this?”
“Miss Qiao Wenyu, is your relationship with President Jiang based on love—or money? Please answer your fans.”
“Miss Jiang, why haven’t you gone public with your relationship with Miss Qiao? When will you make it official?”
One question after another fired out from the crowd, all circling the same topic.
Jiang Nian’s heart dropped. She instinctively reached for her phone to call for help—but they were completely surrounded. Reporters and fans swarmed so tightly around them that they had no room to move. Microphones were practically shoved into their faces, and the street outside the terminal was now a mess of blocked traffic.
Qiao Wenyu was caught off guard but couldn’t help letting out a soft laugh, her voice laced with warmth.
“Alright, let’s give it our best shot.”
Jiang Nian smiled too. The awkwardness from earlier faded like morning fog, and by the time the two walked out of the airport, they both had smiles on their faces.
But as Jiang Nian walked further, something started to feel off. The smile gradually faded from her face.
From the crowd ahead, dozens of cameras suddenly emerged. The media had spotted Qiao Wenyu and Jiang Nian holding hands at the airport entrance. Like wolves scenting blood, they swarmed forward, lifting their cameras and snapping furiously.
Flashbulbs exploded. Qiao Wenyu was momentarily blinded, lifting her hand to shield her eyes from the glare.
In just a few seconds, the two were completely surrounded.
“Miss Qiao Wenyu, what is your relationship with Miss Jiang Nian?”
“Miss Qiao, rumors say you and President Jiang have been secretly married for some time. Is that true?”
“Miss Qiao Wenyu, is your relationship with President Jiang based on money—or real love? Please answer, your fans deserve to know.”
“Miss Jiang, why have you kept your relationship with Miss Qiao a secret? When will you go public?”
One question after another flooded out, all variations of the same prying curiosity.
Jiang Nian immediately sensed trouble. She reached for her phone to call for help, but the wall of reporters and fans around them made it nearly impossible to move. Microphones were practically shoved into their faces. The airport’s exit lane was gridlocked.
Just when things were at a breaking point, Jiang Nian’s assistant—Lu Renbing, who had been waiting at the curb—spotted the commotion. Having worked with Jiang Nian for years, he knew how to respond. He immediately contacted their security team to come assist.
But before the bodyguards could even arrive, a group of traffic police showed up. The media frenzy had caused major congestion on two nearby roads, and that was something law enforcement would never tolerate.
“Clear the area! Anyone violating public order will be fined!”
The officers acted swiftly. Within minutes, they had dispersed the crowd and forced the reporters to retreat a good distance.
Jiang Nian didn’t waste a second. She couldn’t spot her assistant’s car, so she flagged down the nearest passing taxi and pulled Qiao Wenyu inside.
“Driver, please lose those people behind us,” Jiang Nian said, handing the driver several large bills.
The driver wore a black baseball cap pulled low, half of his face obscured by shadow. He gave a low grunt.
“Alright,” he said, taking the cash and immediately stepping on the gas.
The media, of course, weren’t so easily shaken. Some of them had tracking tools and quickly followed in pursuit.
Jiang Nian anxiously glanced out the rear window again and again.
“Please, faster. They’re still behind us. I don’t care where—just as long as we lose them.”
The driver nodded. “Buckle up.”
The car sped forward, weaving through traffic before swerving off the main road and onto a series of narrower streets. They darted through the city center and slowly began heading toward the outskirts.
Most of the media had already fallen behind in the downtown maze.
As they entered the quieter suburban roads, the last of the trailing cars were finally left behind.
Jiang Nian turned around, exhaled in relief, and looked at Qiao Wenyu.
“Jiejie, I think we lost them. It’s okay now.”
But Qiao Wenyu didn’t respond. Instead, she squeezed Jiang Nian’s hand and gave her a worried look—then subtly gestured toward the driver.
Jiang Nian looked up—and her heart dropped.
The driver’s face looked familiar, like someone she’d seen once before. She searched her memory, and suddenly it clicked.
He was one of Yan Zhong’s men.
The driver seemed to sense the shift in atmosphere. He let out a low chuckle.
“President Jiang. Miss Qiao. Realized it now, huh? Bit late for that.”
Jiang Nian immediately released her pheromones, trying to suppress him.
“Trying your pheromones, huh?” the man said with a smirk. “Sorry, but I’m a beta. All I feel is that it’s getting warm in here. Won’t do you any good.”
His grin widened, smug and sharp.
“Also… don’t try anything reckless. If this car crashes, both of you die here. That’d be such a waste, don’t you think?”
“What do you want?” Jiang Nian said, her voice low and tense.
The driver curved his lips into something that resembled a smile, but there was no warmth in his eyes.
“Our Chairman Yan simply wants to invite you for tea.”
“That’s a lot of trouble just to send an invitation,” Jiang Nian said coldly.
Qiao Wenyu remained silent beside her.
The driver gave a light laugh. “You’ll understand when we arrive.”
