After Becoming a Scummy Alpha, I Became a Slave to My Beloved Wife - Chapter 46
After walking around the set for a while, Jiang Nian spent most of her time fending off Xia Xue, clearly jealous and refusing to give the young actress any chance to get close to Qiao Wenyu. As for all the beautifully constructed sets around them—Jiang Nian couldn’t have cared less.
Right before leaving, she and Xia Xue ended up locked in a silent stare-down. In Qiao Wenyu’s eyes, the two looked like a husky and a Samoyed baring their teeth at each other—honestly, the whole thing was kind of hilarious.
“Xiao Nian, come here,” Qiao Wenyu finally said, worried Jiang Nian was letting Xia Xue get under her skin. She pulled her into a quiet corner, away from everyone else.
“Sister, what is it?”
Qiao Wenyu gently pinched her earlobe. “Silly pup, why are you getting so jealous? Xia Xue’s just a kid. What are you even jealous of?”
Jiang Nian caught Qiao Wenyu’s hand and held it tightly. “Sister, the way she looks at you—her eyes light up. You really think that’s just normal admiration? I bet she likes you…”
“You.” Qiao Wenyu sighed, then twined her fingers between Jiang Nian’s. “Can you try trusting me a little more? Xia Xue just sees me as a mentor. She grew up in a house full of younger sisters, so she probably sees me as one too.”
“She calls you Sister—and only I should get to do that. I don’t like it,” Jiang Nian muttered, pouting.
Qiao Wenyu reached out and wrapped her arms around Jiang Nian’s neck. “Who raised such a jealous little monster, hmm?”
“I’m not that petty,” Jiang Nian mumbled, burying her head into Qiao Wenyu’s shoulder. “I’m just scared you’ll stop wanting me.”
Abandoned by her parents as a child and later betrayed by friends, Jiang Nian had finally found someone to love and be loved by. The thought of losing that again made her feel like a discarded dog, trembling with fear.
Qiao Wenyu sighed softly and pulled her into a warm, comforting hug. “Xiao Nian, I’m not going anywhere.”
“Miss Qiao? Miss Qiao?”
A staff member’s voice called from the distance.
The two of them had to part, the moment broken.
“Sister, go back to work. I’ve got things to do too.” Jiang Nian flipped her long hair over her shoulder and quickly tied it up. When she stepped back into the crowd, she looked nothing like the lovesick puppy from just minutes before.
In front of others, Jiang Nian always appeared calm, composed, and professional. The only one who ever saw her true emotions was Qiao Wenyu.
“I’ll be waiting for you,” Jiang Nian said with a smile, giving a little wave as she got into the car with her assistant.
She flew back home and took one night to rest. Then, the next day, it was back to her usual fast-paced routine. Recently, the Yan family had stopped putting pressure on her—either because their shady funding sources were finally catching up with them, or because Yan Zhong had simply forgotten about her altogether.
Either way, the temporary peace gave Jiang Nian room to quietly push forward with multiple business projects at once.
Even while busy working, she never took her eyes off Qiao Wenyu.
At the moment, Jiang Fenyun was preoccupied with several big-budget adaptations and hadn’t made a move against Qiao Wenyu or tried to reach Jiang Nian. They had only crossed paths at a few unimportant social events, and even then, there was none of the old friendliness between them.
Maybe Jiang Fenyun was starting to grow wary of her too.
To keep a close watch on Qiao Wenyu, Jiang Nian, with her permission, hired someone to follow her discreetly and document her daily schedule. That way, if anything unusual happened, Jiang Nian would know right away.
Each night, after finishing work, Jiang Nian would watch the day’s footage and then spend hours on the phone with Qiao Wenyu.
One day, after finishing a meeting early, she decided to head home and relax. Just as she sat down, a new batch of footage arrived in her inbox.
She clicked play.
“Sister!”
The loud call nearly burst through the speakers, making Jiang Nian flinch.
She recognized that voice immediately—Xia Xue. The same clingy junior from before.
In the video, Xia Xue was carrying a large bag of snacks as she ran toward Qiao Wenyu and wrapped her arms around her without hesitation, pressing her face far too close for Jiang Nian’s comfort.
Jiang Nian didn’t pause the video. She just clenched her fists silently.
“Sister, this is some special local food my little sister sent from home. It just arrived! You have to try some!” Xia Xue said, practically bouncing as she plopped down beside Qiao Wenyu.
Qiao Wenyu, at that moment, was studying her script for the next day’s shoot. Since she’d joined the production, her diet had been strictly managed, so she politely declined.
“Xiaoxia, I just had a meal. I’m really full right now, can’t eat more.”
Xia Xue nodded hesitantly. “Oh… okay.”
Then, without a second thought, she tore open a pack of dried fruit, broke off a small piece, and raised it to Qiao Wenyu’s mouth.
“Just try a little. My little sister’s a big fan of yours. If you don’t eat it, she’ll be so sad.”
As she spoke, her fingers inched closer, practically brushing against Qiao Wenyu’s lips.
Jiang Nian’s fists clenched tighter.
In the video, Qiao Wenyu was clearly uncomfortable with how close Xia Xue was getting. She shifted slightly away, raising a hand to politely decline.
“Xiaoxia, I really can’t eat—”
Before she could finish, Xia Xue had already pushed the dried fruit into Qiao Wenyu’s mouth, slipping it right past her lips—completely ignoring her refusal. And at the exact moment the dried fruit was fed to her, Xia Xue’s fingertips brushed against the tip of Qiao Wenyu’s tongue.
Jiang Nian saw it all—clearly.
She paused the video right then. The screen froze with Xia Xue’s fingers still touching Qiao Wenyu’s lips.
The more Jiang Nian looked, the more irritated she became. She stood up from the couch and started pacing circles around the living room, struggling to calm herself down. Only after mentally talking herself down and regaining some composure did she sit back down and press play again.
The video resumed.
After swallowing the dried fruit, Qiao Wenyu leaned even farther back, clearly feeling uncomfortable.
“Sister! Isn’t it delicious?” Xia Xue beamed with pride as she praised the specialty snack from her hometown.
Qiao Wenyu forced a polite smile. “Xiaoxia, you’re an alpha and I’m an omega… you need to remember to keep a respectful distance, okay?”
“Huh? But I treat my omega sisters back home the same way…” Xia Xue looked genuinely confused.
Qiao Wenyu pointed to herself. “But I’m not your family, am I? That’s why we need to be mindful of boundaries, Xiaoxia.”
Hearing this, Xia Xue’s expression turned a little sullen. She lowered her head, fidgeting with her fingers.
“Sister… do you dislike me now? Ever since that Jiang… whatever-her-name-is president came to visit, you’ve been avoiding me.”
Qiao Wenyu didn’t want to be too direct, so she carefully tried to explain without causing harm.
“Xiaoxia, I know you see me as a sister—a mentor you admire. But to people watching from the outside, our closeness might be misunderstood. Do you understand?”
Xia Xue puffed out her cheeks, clearly upset. “If people want to imagine things, let them! I just like you, Sister. I’d even marry you if I could!”
That was the final straw.
Jiang Nian nearly threw her cup across the room.
She couldn’t stand the idea of leaving Qiao Wenyu alone in another province for one more minute. Slamming her laptop shut, she quickly packed a suitcase and booked the next available flight out. That same night, she traveled to the city where Qiao Wenyu was filming and checked into a hotel near the set.
The next morning, her assistant called as usual, only to find out the boss had already left town. He stared at his phone in stunned silence for a full three seconds.
“President Jiang, are you coming back tomorrow or the day after?” he asked, still processing.
Jiang Nian’s voice came through, laced with jealousy.
“I’m not going back. I need to stay here and keep an eye on someone!”
“Wait—what? President Jiang, please think this through,” Lu Renbing’s heart nearly gave out on the spot. His boss’s love life was becoming a full-blown survival challenge.
Jiang Nian took a breath, regaining her composure.
“All the current projects are running smoothly. My being here won’t affect anything.”
Lu Renbing was still worried. “Still, you can’t just vanish on us, President Jiang.”
“I’ll come back once Wenyu finishes filming. Until then, forward all work to me by email. For meetings, set up a video call,” Jiang Nian replied calmly. This time, it wasn’t a jealous outburst—it was a clear decision.
Since she’d already made all the necessary arrangements, Lu Renbing knew better than to argue. He could only follow orders and get everything done accordingly.
After hanging up, Jiang Nian contacted a local car rental service and booked a vehicle.
Without notifying Qiao Wenyu’s agent, she drove straight to the film set.
After parking her car in the lot outside the set, Jiang Nian introduced herself at the entrance. The staff instantly recognized her and let her in with the utmost respect.
She told them not to announce her arrival. Quietly, she made her way into the filming base alone, relying on her vague memory of the layout to find her way.
The set wasn’t that big. If she walked around enough, she’d eventually find Qiao Wenyu’s dressing room.
But before she could get very far, she ran into someone at the corner.
Looking down, Jiang Nian saw a face she unfortunately recognized.
“Hey, can you not watch where you’re going?” The woman was adjusting her costume, clearly annoyed. “I just finished getting my makeup and hair done—can you even afford to pay for ruining it—”
Jiang Xianxian looked up, and immediately froze when she saw who it was. She quickly replaced her irritation with a sweet, sugary smile.
“Oh, Sister Jiang, it’s you…”
Jiang Nian raised an eyebrow. “I can afford it. Now move.”
“Ah… I was just kidding. Don’t take it seriously,” Jiang Xianxian laughed, pretending to be playful. “Are you here to visit me on set? What an honor.”
“No,” Jiang Nian replied flatly.
She hadn’t heard any word that Jiang Xianxian would be part of the shoot—how unlucky to run into her now. “Didn’t know you were here. Let me through.”
But Jiang Xianxian stepped in front of her, blocking the way.
“I just flew back from a performance overseas. Today’s my first day on set, and I run into you? That’s fate, don’t you think? Why rush off so soon?”
Just as Jiang Nian was starting to lose patience, a crew member passed by and called Jiang Xianxian away.
She clearly didn’t want to leave, but the director was urging her to the set. She couldn’t argue with that. With a reluctant sigh, she gave in—but not before blowing Jiang Nian a flirtatious kiss.
Jiang Nian ignored her completely and walked straight ahead.
The hallway looked somewhat familiar now, and she quickly spotted a room with Qiao Wenyu’s name on the door.
She stopped, a smile forming on her face. Just as she raised her hand to knock, a strange sound reached her ears from inside the room.
Soft, uneven breathing… two people.
Jiang Nian held her breath and listened more closely.
Then she heard Qiao Wenyu’s voice—muffled and breathy.
“Xiaoxia, ah… I-I can’t… be gentler…”
