After Becoming a Scummy Alpha, I Became a Slave to My Beloved Wife - Chapter 45
With proper medical care and Jiang Nian’s constant support, Qiao Wenyu was discharged in less than two weeks.
Soon after, her agent received another call from the production team. Both the company and the crew had offered compensation and were now requesting that Qiao Wenyu return to filming.
When Jiang Nian heard the news, she immediately refused.
“No way. Absolutely not. I don’t agree!”
“Sister, just hear me out—”
“No! I’m not letting you go back to that set just to be bullied by Jiang Fenyun’s people again!” Jiang Nian covered her ears, acting like a stubborn child refusing to listen.
Qiao Wenyu couldn’t help but laugh at her sulky behavior. She leaned in and kissed Jiang Nian on the cheek.
“Come on, listen to me, sweetheart.”
“You—you—you… Sister, what did you just call me?”
“There, see? You’re listening after all.”
Finally, Jiang Nian settled down and quietly waited for her to speak.
“If I suddenly drop out, Jiang Fenyun will get suspicious,” Qiao Wenyu explained, placing her hands gently on Jiang Nian’s shoulders. “Don’t worry. After what happened, she wouldn’t dare pull anything again. Let me go back, okay?”
“No. If you’re going back, I’m going with you. I’ll watch you finish filming,” Jiang Nian insisted firmly.
“You can take me to the set, but you can’t stay with me there.” Qiao Wenyu reached up and tapped the tip of Jiang Nian’s nose.
“Silly pup, aren’t you afraid of getting exposed? Our relationship is still a secret, remember?”
That finally made Jiang Nian sit down, troubled. She grabbed Qiao Wenyu’s hand, eyes full of longing as she shook her arm gently.
“Sister, I really want the world to know—you’re my omega. Can’t we go public? Please?”
“No, we can’t. If my father finds out that I’m ready to go public, he’ll immediately try to suppress you. I don’t want you to end up like Qiuqiu—getting hurt because of me.” Qiao Wenyu patted Jiang Nian’s shoulder gently.
“When I’m strong enough to stand up to him, we’ll go public. I’ll announce our relationship, leave the entertainment industry, and then we’ll live a quiet, peaceful life.”
Those words made Jiang Nian drift off into thoughts of the future. Once everything was behind them, they would finally be able to live happily together.
“We should have a baby. I really want a cute little daughter,” Jiang Nian said dreamily.
This time, Qiao Wenyu’s face turned red.
“In the middle of the day? What kind of nonsense are you saying?”
“Sister, don’t you like girls?”
“…If she’s your child, of course I’d love her,” Qiao Wenyu mumbled shyly.
After their talk, Jiang Nian personally drove Qiao Wenyu to the set.
Even before they reached the entrance, Jiang Nian saw a line of people waiting ahead. As they got closer, she realized it was the core crew, all standing at the gate to welcome Qiao Wenyu back.
The moment they arrived, the director stepped forward with concern written all over his face.
“Xiaoyu, are you really feeling better? You can take more time to rest if needed. What happened last time… was our fault. We weren’t careful enough.”
“It’s okay. I don’t want to delay the progress of the production,” Qiao Wenyu said, bowing politely.
The director quickly stepped forward to help her up, looking both guilty and grateful.
“You’re so professional. I really appreciate it. I promise, I’ll cast you again for the next project.”
Jiang Nian stood quietly behind Qiao Wenyu, watching the polite exchanges with a cool expression. Everything felt overly scripted and insincere.
Just then, a young alpha girl dashed out of the crowd. She couldn’t have been more than twenty, with a lively smile and distinct little canine teeth. Without hesitation, she ran straight to Qiao Wenyu and hugged her tightly around the waist in front of everyone.
“Sister! Are you okay?”
Caught off guard, Qiao Wenyu took a step back. She gently ruffled the girl’s soft, wavy hair.
“Xiaoxia, have you been memorizing your lines properly?”
Xia Xue nodded enthusiastically.
“Yes! The director even praised me. I’ve been using your method—it really helps!”
The director stepped forward as well.
“She’s right. Xiaoxia’s been working hard. She’s improved a lot since she first joined the team.”
At that moment, Jiang Nian felt more like an outsider than anything else. She stared warily at the young actress named Xiaoxia, who clearly didn’t know her place.
“Wow, this sister is so beautiful! Is she a rising film queen? A senior in the industry?” Xia Xue asked enthusiastically, though she had finally let go of Qiao Wenyu’s waist. Still, she stayed close to her side, sticking to her like glue. Her questions spilled out one after another like a never-ending stream.
Jiang Nian cut in coldly, “I’m the most important person in your sister’s life.”
Qiao Wenyu quickly cleared her throat, deliberately reminding Jiang Nian not to say too much. She added smoothly, “This is… a friend of mine. Someone who’s always supported me.”
Xia Xue tilted her head, still curious. “So beautiful, and not even in the industry? That’s kind of a shame.”
Jiang Nian crossed her arms and responded calmly, “A shame indeed. But I imagine my job pays more than what a whole drama might bring you.”
The sharp-eyed director picked up on the meaning behind her words. He turned to Jiang Nian and offered his hand politely.
“And you are…?”
“Jiang Nian,” she replied, shaking his hand.
The director’s expression changed instantly.
“Oh! So you’re President Jiang! I’ve heard Director Jiang mention you so many times—it’s an honor to finally meet you in person.”
Jiang Nian had heard this kind of polite flattery more times than she could count. She responded with a cool smile, “I’ve heard your name, too.”
Trying to get on her good side, the director took the opportunity to invite her into a normally restricted area of the set for a personal tour.
That suited Jiang Nian just fine, and the group followed behind as they headed deeper into the filming area.
The director eagerly introduced the latest filming techniques and equipment, doing everything he could to impress her—clearly hoping to land another investor for the production.
Jiang Nian could easily see what he was getting at. Wanting to politely decline, she found an excuse to steer the conversation elsewhere.
“Director, why don’t you let Wenyu show me around instead? You mentioned earlier how crucial your role is in implementing the new filming method—shouldn’t you be heading back to work?”
Having been flattered to that extent, the director had no choice but to accept and excuse himself.
As soon as he left, Jiang Nian thought she could finally have some quiet time alone with Qiao Wenyu.
But before they could take a few steps, Xia Xue had wedged herself right between them like a third wheel with no self-awareness.
Wherever Qiao Wenyu went, she would explain something along the way—and Xia Xue would immediately follow up by recalling their shared memories from that exact spot.
For example:
“Sister! Right here—this was where we first met! You taught me how to memorize lines here!”
“Sister, over there—that’s the infirmary where you bandaged my arm.”
“Sister, we rehearsed by this river, remember? You told me if I kept working hard, I’d succeed.”
“Sister!”
“Sister…”
“Sister…”
The more Jiang Nian listened, the more convinced she became that Xia Xue had a crush on Qiao Wenyu. Jealousy surged up in her chest, sour and unrelenting.
“Wenyu,” Jiang Nian suddenly clutched her stomach and leaned against the wall, her voice weak, “Can you come with me to find a restroom? My stomach’s acting up…”
Qiao Wenyu immediately supported her.
“Let’s go. I’ll take you. Maybe something you ate this morning wasn’t fresh?”
Jiang Nian nodded, playing along. “Yeah… maybe.”
“I want to come too!” Xia Xue suddenly chimed in.
“It’s just the restroom. You’re an outsider—it’s not really appropriate for you to tag along, is it?” Jiang Nian said, leaning against Qiao Wenyu like she was too weak to stand on her own.
Qiao Wenyu thought Jiang Nian had a point. “Xiaoxia, why don’t you wait here for us? We’ll be back in just a moment.”
Xia Xue didn’t push further. “Okay, Sister…”
“Sister, it hurts,” Jiang Nian whined dramatically, her body practically melting into Qiao Wenyu’s arms. As they turned to leave, she even made a silly face at Xia Xue behind Qiao Wenyu’s back.
Xia Xue blinked in confusion. Huh? Did I just get hated…?
When they reached the restroom entrance, before Qiao Wenyu could even react, Jiang Nian yanked her into one of the stalls. Their bodies were pressed tightly together as they leaned against the back of the door.
“Xiao Nian, I thought your stomach hurt…” Qiao Wenyu began, only to meet the unmistakable jealousy burning in Jiang Nian’s eyes. She fell silent. She understood.
Jiang Nian placed both hands beside Qiao Wenyu’s face, then leaned in and kissed her with urgency. The kiss was wild and intense—like a starving dog that hadn’t eaten for three days, desperate and unrestrained.
By the time they pulled apart, both were breathing heavily.
“Sister,” Jiang Nian said, voice low and possessive, “why is she calling you ‘Sister’ too?”
Qiao Wenyu was pinned against the wooden stall door, clearly a little uncomfortable in the cramped space.
“Xiao Nian…” Her voice was shaky.
“You see?” Jiang Nian’s chin rested on her shoulder now, her voice full of bitterness. “Another alpha has her eyes on you. What am I supposed to do? She calls you Sister, and you even touched her hair.”
Qiao Wenyu turned slightly, and in doing so caught a glimpse of Jiang Nian’s damp, glistening eyes. Her heart trembled. When she spoke again, even her tone was softer than before.
“Xiao Nian… don’t be silly. She’s just a junior to me. I only like you. You know that, right?”
“Nope,” Jiang Nian said deliberately, sulking.
Qiao Wenyu sighed helplessly, then wrapped her arms around Jiang Nian’s neck and pulled her back into another kiss.
When they finally emerged from the restroom, they were surprised to find Xia Xue standing right outside the door.
“Didn’t we tell you to wait over there? Why are you standing right here?” Jiang Nian asked, her jealousy flaring up again at the sight of her.
Xia Xue scratched her head with a sheepish smile. “You two were gone so long, I got worried something might’ve happened. But… why did you both come out together? Sister, is your stomach hurting too?”
“I… I was handing her some tissue,” Qiao Wenyu said quickly, forcing a smile as she blurted out the first excuse that came to mind.
Xia Xue didn’t notice anything strange. Instead, she tilted her head in curiosity.
“You two have such a close relationship. But… Sister, your lipstick looks faded. President Jiang didn’t help you touch it up?”
When they had gone into the restroom earlier, Qiao Wenyu had been wearing a fresh coat of lipstick. Jiang Nian, having left in a hurry that morning, hadn’t done any makeup at all.
The comment made Qiao Wenyu suddenly feel a little embarrassed.
Jiang Nian, on the other hand, remained calm.
“Didn’t you notice? Wenyu and I use the same lipstick shade.”
“Oh! You’re right. Hers just looks a little lighter,” Xia Xue said, still not letting it go. “Sister, can I try your lipstick later? That color looks really good!”
“I…” Qiao Wenyu paused. She hadn’t brought the lipstick with her and didn’t know how to respond.
Before the situation could get more awkward, Jiang Nian casually wrapped an arm around Qiao Wenyu’s waist and began leading her deeper into the set. As they walked, she tossed a pointed remark over her shoulder.
“You don’t need lipstick to share the same shade, you know?”
Xia Xue: Huh?
