After Becoming a Full-Time Employee, I Signed a Romance Contract with My Ice-Cold Boss - Chapter 37
“When can I get out!”
At noon, Wu Qi was still sitting at her desk, facing her computer screen. He Shuyi ran in hurriedly, carrying something in her hand.
Without even looking up, Wu Qi asked, “Shouldn’t you be in the cafeteria at this time? Are you looking for me for something?”
“Something big!” He Shuyi casually set the packed food aside and trotted over to Wu Qi. “Sister Wu, something terrible has happened!”
Her exaggerated tone managed to make Wu Qi stop her work. “Tell me, what happened?”
He Shuyi looked around cautiously to confirm there was no one else in the office. Then, she leaned into Wu Qi’s ear and spoke in a whisper, the volume friends use for secrets. “There is a mole in our office!”
“Oh?” Wu Qi’s expression became much more serious. “Who is this mole you’re talking about?”
He Shuyi said decisively, “It’s Xiao Wang!”
She immediately recounted every single word she had heard Xiao Wang say on the phone when she had unexpectedly turned back. Finally, she said with genuine emotion, “And to think I was worried about her! I even ran out to buy her medicine, but she was lying to me!”
Wu Qi offered a few words of comfort: “Then turn that grief into an appetite and eat more for lunch.”
She didn’t wait a moment longer and immediately reported the matter to Jiang Fengyi. By the time she finished relaying the message, she realized the office was filled with the smell of food. Turning around, she saw that He Shuyi was already seated in the lounge area not far from her desk, enjoying her lunch.
Seeing Wu Qi look over, He Shuyi asked warm-heartedly, “Do you want to come over and eat a bit too?” She took a bite of a rib coated in thick sauce and squinted her eyes in praise. “The cafeteria lady’s sweet and sour ribs are a masterpiece. It’s really a pity if you don’t eat some.”
Wu Qi walked over and naturally picked up another untouched box of rice. “It does smell very fragrant.”
He Shuyi pushed the dishes toward her. “I packed two portions; eat more!”
On the other side, after Housekeeper Zhao hung up the call with Xiao Wang, she walked back to the dining room with a gloomy expression.
The three people sitting at the dining table had no appetite for food. Seeing her return, they looked at her expectantly, waiting for her to speak. Before Housekeeper Zhao could organize her words, Old Lady Zhao asked impatiently, “How is it? Did she find the share transfer contract?”
It wasn’t that Old Lady Zhao was being unnecessarily anxious; it was because 10% of Jingjiang’s shares were at stake. If the Zhao family could get their hands on them, even if they couldn’t compete with Jiang Fengyi, it would certainly guarantee the Zhao family a life of comfort for the rest of their days.
After Jiang Xuan was locked in the sanatorium, they had completely lost their reliance within the Jiang family. Among the younger generation of their own family, only Zhao Ruofei was decent. Their original plan was to rely on Jiang Xuan to get Jiang Fengyi and Zhao Ruofei engaged.
As it turned out, Jiang Fengyi had found a girlfriend from somewhere. Because of this, the plan to bind the Zhao family to the Jiang family had been shelved.
Fortunately, things took a turn. Zhao Ruofei had accidentally overheard Jiang Xuan complaining that Jiang Fengyi was actually willing to trade 10% of the company’s shares to get Xu Que back, and supposedly, the contract had already been drafted.
Now, they had pinned all their hopes on this contract. If Jiang Xuan really possessed those 10% shares, Old Lady Zhao would get her out no matter what.
Facing Old Lady Zhao’s expectant eyes, Housekeeper Zhao couldn’t bear to look directly at her and lowered her head. “She said she couldn’t find it.”
“What should we do then?” Zhao Ruxuan was impatient and couldn’t hide her feelings. “Doesn’t that mean there’s no way to confirm if the shares were transferred to Aunt Jiang?” She asked directly, “If we go through all the trouble to get her out and find that there are no shares in her name, wouldn’t the Zhao family be working for nothing?”
“Wait a bit longer,” Old Lady Zhao’s cloudy eyes lost focus as she stared blankly ahead, muttering, “Wait a bit longer, just wait a bit longer.”
She couldn’t even say what she was waiting for; perhaps she was waiting for a turning point in the situation.
On the living room sofa, Jiang Fengyi was resting her head on Xu Que’s lap. The afternoon sunlight poured in through the window, spreading a layer of fine gold leaf across the floor.
Dazzling spots of light fell beside Jiang Fengyi’s legs, appearing as if they were embroidering golden threads onto her skirt. From a distance, it looked like countless shimmering golden elves were dancing lightly.
When the sunlight hit those light-colored pupils, the amber color in the depths of her eyes was diluted, making the clarity of Jiang Fengyi’s gaze even more prominent—like a translucent glass gem without any impurities.
Xu Que idly combed through Jiang Fengyi’s long hair. Whenever their eyes met, the smile on her face would spill out as if it were worthless.
After the temporary marking, Jiang Fengyi behaved significantly more dependent on Xu Que than before. For instance, her body always wanted to be near Xu Que; even if the other person was away for business, she had to have clothes with Xu Que’s scent around her.
As long as her nose could catch the scent of the other person, Jiang Fengyi felt as if she were tightly wrapped in a sense of security, becoming gentle and peaceful. If she couldn’t smell it, she would become anxious and restless.
“You are not allowed to leave my side for the next few days.”
Jiang Fengyi tugged at the hem of Xu Que’s clothes. The command coming from her mouth sounded like acting spoiled; at least, that was what Xu Que thought.
“Is it only for these few days that I can’t leave your side?” Xu Que brushed away the stray hairs on Jiang Fengyi’s forehead, leaned down, and planted a kiss between her eyebrows. “I want to never leave your side for a lifetime.”
“Suit yourself,” her tone was slightly flat.
Jiang Fengyi closed her eyes, her slender eyelashes trembling uncontrollably, betraying her true emotions. Xu Que watched as her cheeks turned red bit by bit and silently curled her lips into a smile.
When Jiang Fengyi didn’t hear a response from Xu Que, she quietly opened a sliver of an eye, just in time to meet Xu Que’s smiling gaze.
As their eyes met, Xu Que suddenly clutched her heart and spoke in an exaggerated tone: “You’re being so cold to me! Boohoo, my heart hurts so much~”
The acting was truly too poor; Jiang Fengyi couldn’t help but turn her head away. A moment later, she let out a “pfft” and started laughing. The laughter was very shallow, like a breeze passing over a calm lake, creating ripples—though not obvious, they echoed in the heart for a long time.
Xu Que buried her head in Jiang Fengyi’s arms, her voice coming muffled from below: “I regret it so much!”
“Regret what?”
“I regret not expressing my feelings to you sooner.”
“I regret not letting you show your smile in front of me sooner.”
“I regret not being able to see a more vivid Jiang Fengyi sooner…”
As she spoke, her head slowly moved upward, kissing Jiang Fengyi’s neck bit by bit.
“Mmh…”
“It tickles… slow down…”
Jiang Fengyi wanted to reach out and push her head away, but her body, which had been marked by Xu Que’s pheromones, craved the other’s closeness. Amidst the playful resistance, the other’s dense kisses rained down.
“Mmh…”
The sunlight seemed ashamed to witness this scene and quietly hid behind the curtains.
When Jiang Fengyi woke up from her nap, she was already lying in bed. She pulled the quilt over her head, hiding her face, which turned redder and redder under the thin covers. As she inhaled, the newly changed bedding was full of the scent of their intertwined pheromones.
This caused Jiang Fengyi’s ears and the skin on her long neck to turn a shade of pink.
“This won’t do!” She suddenly threw back the quilt and sat up, determined. “This cannot continue!”
“I need to be moderate!”
“What needs to be moderate?”
Xu Que appeared at the bedroom door at some unknown point. She walked to the bedside step by step and reached out her hand toward Jiang Fengyi. Without understanding why, and before her brain could think, Jiang Fengyi’s body acted first and placed her hand in Xu Que’s.
With a gentle pull from Xu Que, the person half-sitting on the bed was brought into her arms. Smooth black hair swung in a beautiful arc in the air, brushing against her face and leaving behind a trail of fragrance.
She wanted to kiss her. She wanted to kiss the person, and she wanted to kiss the hair.
Xu Que despised herself in her heart. To prevent Jiang Fengyi from thinking she had nothing but “yellow waste” (lewd thoughts) in her head, she tried her best to restrain the desire in her heart.
“Ahem… Anyway, your phone rang.”
Xu Que brought in the phone that Jiang Fengyi had left in the corner of the sofa. The screen showed an incoming call from Wu Qi.
Jiang Fengyi didn’t break free from her embrace and answered the call directly; she had no intention of avoiding Xu Que during the conversation. Since the phone was still held in the other person’s hand, she leaned her body to the side, pressing her ear close to the receiver. The voice from the other end came through clearly.
Seeing this, Xu Que proactively adjusted the angle of the phone, holding it up to Jiang Fengyi’s ear.
“What is it?”
“Yes, I understand.”
“No need to worry, they won’t find it. The documents were destroyed long ago.”
The conversation between the two was very brief. Jiang Fengyi hung up in just a few sentences, then looked up at Xu Que, her brows tightly furrowed, saying nothing.
“What are you thinking about?” Xu Que set the phone aside. “What’s wrong? You look unhappy after taking that call.” She manually smoothed out Jiang Fengyi’s brow.
Jiang Fengyi opened her arms and hugged Xu Que, resting her head on the other’s shoulder. Hair of varying lengths brushed against her cheek, making her itch slightly. Freeing one hand to push away the stray hairs, she asked in a muffled voice, “Tomorrow…”
She paused and then continued, “Are you willing to go to the sanatorium with me tomorrow?”
“To see my mother.”
“Of course I’m willing!” Xu Que said as if it were a matter of course. “I’m willing to accompany you wherever you want to go.”
Jiang Fengyi lowered her eyes. “I thought you would mind. After all, she kidnapped you to make you leave me.”
Xu Que comforted her in return: “Didn’t you rush over in time to save me?” She was big-hearted: “I just took a nap. The first person I saw when I opened my eyes was you. My heart is only filled with joy; there’s no room for anything else.”
Jiang Fengyi felt her head being rubbed, and the reassuring voice continued to comfort her.
“You don’t need to feel guilty for the mistakes others have made.”
“You are very good!”
Jiang Fengyi was deeply moved and couldn’t help but say, “The luckiest thing for me was meeting you.”
Xu Que tilted her head. “I should be the one saying that. It’s because I was lucky enough that the Heavens let me meet you.”
Having said that, she gently planted a kiss on Jiang Fengyi’s forehead. It was untainted by any lust, pious to the point of being almost like worship.
At the Sanatorium,
Jiang Xuan had been locked up here for several days. It was in the middle of nowhere; she couldn’t even walk out of the area if she wanted to escape, let alone the fact that she couldn’t even get past the main gate of the sanatorium.
If she continued to be locked up in this godforsaken place, she was afraid she really would develop some mental illness.
“When can I get out!”
Once again, she overturned the dinner brought by the staff.
“Give me a definite deadline. When can I get out?”
She stared with a stern face at the staff member who was bent over cleaning up the mess on the floor, but the person remained silent, turning a deaf ear to her questions.
“Get out!” Jiang Xuan suddenly went into a frenzy, either kicking over or throwing things near her. “Everyone, get out!”
“How dare you treat me like this! You don’t respect me at all!”
It was unclear whether she was talking about the staff or making an underlying reference to Jiang Fengyi.
“When I get out…”
“Patient in Bed 01, Jiang Xuan. Patient in Bed 01, Jiang Xuan—”
The intercom device at the head of the bed crackled with a human voice.
“Your family will be coming to visit you tomorrow.”
Jiang Xuan gritted her teeth: “Jiang Fengyi, it’s all your fault!”
