After Becoming a Full-Time Employee, I Signed a Romance Contract with My Ice-Cold Boss - Chapter 14
The Inhibitor Patch Comes Loose
After realizing that Jiang Fengyi truly had nothing to say to her, Xu Que left the office dejectedly.
He Shuyi, who was returning from the restroom, happened to run into her standing at the office door and hurriedly stepped forward to pull Xu Que away from the “battlefield.”
“Aren’t you recovering at home? Why are you here?”
Xu Que patted her own leg. “It’s already better.”
In truth, there was still a bit of pain at the bruised spot, but Xu Que wanted to return early so she could see Jiang Fengyi every day.
“If it’s better, why do you look so listless? Is there somewhere else you’re uncomfortable?”
Xu Que shook her head and remained silent. Her heart was uncomfortable.
He Shuyi didn’t think much of it, assuming she just hadn’t adjusted back to work mode yet. However, her eyes kept glancing behind Xu Que, sparking Xu Que’s curiosity. She turned around to look as well. “What are you looking at?”
“There was just a huge row in there. I’m checking to see when President Jiang’s mood improves; I still have a document here that needs her signature.”
Xu Que reached out toward her. “I’ll take it in and get it signed for you.”
“From this moment on, you are my savior!”
He Shuyi flatteringly stuffed a bunch of snacks into Xu Que’s hands before handing over the document and giving her serious instructions.
“Let’s not go in right now and invite bad luck. Wait until President Jiang cools down later; this document isn’t urgent anyway.”
“It’s fine,” Xu Que stood up, holding the folder and heading straight inside. “I just came out of there.”
He Shuyi was incredulous. “Wh—what!”
After a few steps, Xu Que turned back, picked out a piece of chocolate from the pile of snacks on the desk, and turned again.
He Shuyi hurriedly grabbed her. “You’re saying you… you just came out of there?”
Xu Que found it funny. “Why do you look like there’s a man-eating monster hidden inside?”
He Shuyi wouldn’t let go of Xu Que’s sleeve. “You… you aren’t afraid of President Jiang when she’s angry? Everyone in the office is terrified…”
Xu Que corrected her: “She’s just temporarily in a bad mood.”
Seeing that there was no fear on Xu Que’s face, He Shuyi couldn’t help but blur out what she was thinking: “You couldn’t really be together with President Jiang, could you? She indulges you so much!”
Although Xu Que didn’t answer, her mood clearly brightened.
He Shuyi watched as Xu Que walked back inside gracefully with the document, looking as composed as if she were returning to her own home.
Sure enough, the CP she shipped was real!
Hearing footsteps, Jiang Fengyi didn’t even lift her head.
She said coldly, “Get out!”
She currently had no extra energy to handle trivial matters outside of company business.
The footsteps continued to approach her.
“I said—”
Jiang Fengyi looked up. Upon seeing the person, the second half of her reprimand turned into a question.
“Why is it you?”
Xu Que hadn’t forgotten the business she came in for. She walked up to Jiang Fengyi and handed the closed folder to her.
Now, she had turned back into an obedient subordinate, speaking solemnly: “President Jiang, there is a document here that requires your signature.”
Jiang Fengyi couldn’t figure out what Xu Que was up to and took it suspiciously.
When the folder was opened, the piece of chocolate tucked right in the middle suddenly burst into her sight.
“Eat some sweets when you’re in a bad mood.”
Jiang Fengyi said stubbornly, “When was I ever in a bad mood?”
“Right, right, right. It’s my mood that’s bad.”
Xu Que tore open the wrapper for her.
“Then I beg the beautiful and kind President Jiang to accompany me, the one in a bad mood, in eating some sweets.” Xu Que held the half-wrapped chocolate, her eyes filled with hope.
“Can you?”
Xu Que blinked at her. The next moment, the person opposite her leaned forward.
Silky strands of hair cascaded down like a waterfall, brushing against Xu Que’s skin bit by bit. Then, the piece of chocolate in her hand was reduced by half.
Jiang Fengyi sat up straight, slowly feeling the dark solid melt in her mouth. The rich aroma of cocoa filled her oral cavity, with hints of bitterness blooming on the tip of her tongue.
“Thank you. It’s very sweet.”
Swe… sweet?
Xu Que was bewildered and confusedly ate the remaining half of the chocolate.
Help, it was so bitter.
She seriously suspected there was something wrong with Jiang Fengyi’s taste buds.
Xu Que didn’t rush to leave after taking the signed document; she continued to linger in the office.
“Are you thirsty? Do you want water?”
“Are you hungry? Do you want some snacks?”
“What do you want to eat after work? I’ll book a restaurant,” Xu Que planned methodically. “Or we can go home and eat the food I cook. I’ll buy groceries on my way back after work.”
“Stop.”
“If you have nothing to do, go make me a cup of coffee.”
“On it!”
Jiang Fengyi finally managed to send away the incessant Xu Que, gaining a moment of peace for her ears.
Unfortunately, after only a few minutes, Xu Que returned. When she came back, she held the cup of coffee Jiang Fengyi wanted.
“Drink it now or later?”
Jiang Fengyi stopped her work and said resignedly, “Now.”
With Xu Que by her side, she simply couldn’t concentrate on work.
Once she finished this cup of coffee, she would send the girl away, Jiang Fengyi silently resolved.
In the office, besides the rich aroma of coffee, there was suddenly an added scent—an extremely faint scent of plants bathed in sunlight.
This was…
Jiang Fengyi breathed it in without any defenses.
This time, the scent entered her nose even more clearly. The scent of sunflowers embracing the sun gradually surrounded her.
This was Xu Que’s pheromone!
The moment she smelled the other’s pheromones, the inhibitor patch on the back of her neck loosened slightly. Jiang Fengyi clearly felt her body temperature rising continuously.
Oh no!
The rut was truly arriving.
An Omega in heat or a rut has a much more sensitive sense of smell than usual. Coupled with the fact that she was currently in the same room as Xu Que, an Alpha, and sitting so close.
Jiang Fengyi firmly pressed down on the loosening inhibitor patch on her neck. Her first instinct was to lean down and pull open the drawer by her leg.
The helpful Xu Que took a step forward and crouched by her legs.
“What are you looking for?”
“I’ll help you.”
“You… you go out first…”
As soon as Xu Que approached, Jiang Fengyi’s inhibitor patch became precarious. Her breathing couldn’t help but quicken, and the small mole under her eyelid was forced to flush a crimson hue.
“Your face is so red. Are you sick?”
The oblivious Xu Que reached out toward Jiang Fengyi’s forehead. The other person’s excessively high temperature forced her to immediately retract her hand.
“So hot! I’ll take you to the hospital.”
Xu Que half-crouched, extended her long arms, and easily picked up Jiang Fengyi, who was leaning over to pull the drawer.
“You’re so light.”
However, now was not the time to appreciate Jiang Fengyi’s weight. Xu Que was about to anxiously walk out.
The person in her arms tightly gripped her collar and said breathlessly, “Don’t… don’t go. The… back…”
“What?”
Xu Que leaned down, her ear moving closer to hear Jiang Fengyi’s soft murmur.
During the movement, the inhibitor patch stuck to the back of Jiang Fengyi’s neck fell off completely.
In an instant,
The rich fragrance of epiphyllum was released from Xu Que’s arms, quickly diffusing throughout the entire room. Fortunately, the office door was tightly shut and the seal was strong enough that not a shred of the scent leaked out.
“It… it turns out you weren’t sick. It’s… it’s the rut.”
Realizing late, Xu Que blushed. She gently carried Jiang Fengyi, pushed open the door to the lounge inside the office, and then carefully placed her on the bed.
She placed a soft pillow behind Jiang Fengyi to ensure she was lying comfortably.
Although Xu Que had never had a girlfriend, she had learned how to take care of an Omega in their rut during physiology class at school.
She was an excellent student and had received an A+.
The lesson said that an Omega in their rut is in a sensitive and fragile state both physically and mentally; an Alpha must provide enough security and respect.
Xu Que carefully restrained her own pheromones to avoid affecting Jiang Fengyi.
Jiang Fengyi on the bed looked exceptionally uncomfortable. Due to the rising body temperature, she was covered in a fine sweat, and many strands of her loose long hair were stuck to her neck.
Xu Que tucked them back strand by strand. Where her fingertips brushed, ripples seemed to rise.
“Inhibitor… patch… draw… drawer…”
“The inhibitor patches are in the drawer?”
Xu Que recalled the drawer Jiang Fengyi had leaned down to pull but failed to open, and had a sudden realization.
“I’ll go get them for you. Wait a moment.”
She left like a gust of wind and returned like one, holding several unopened inhibitor patches.
“Should I help you or…”
“I… I’ll do it… myself.”
Jiang Fengyi propped her hands on the bed, wanting to sit up, but she overestimated herself. Her whole body was now weak and soft; her arms were not as strong as before, and they gave way after only a second of exertion.
The expected pain did not arrive. She opened her eyes to find that she hadn’t fallen onto the bed, but into Xu Que’s arms.
After Jiang Fengyi had said she would do it herself, Xu Que had quietly stepped aside to watch over her. When she saw the other’s arms trembling from weakness, she had opened her arms in a protective half-embrace just in case.
The next moment,
She heard the exhausted Jiang Fengyi cry out as she fell toward her. The prepared Xu Que caught her steadily.
“I’ll help you.”
Xu Que sat on the edge of the bed, carefully tearing open the packaging of the inhibitor patch, while her other hand gathered Jiang Fengyi’s long hair to her chest.
The gland exposed before her eyes was tinted pink. The closer she got, the richer the fragrance of the epiphyllum became.
She had no choice but to hold her breath, trying her best not to be affected by the other’s pheromones.
In just that short time, Xu Que’s nose was already covered in sweat.
Her fingertip touched somewhere unknown, causing the person leaning in her arms to let out a soft moan, which made her movements even more shaky.
Xu Que pursed her lips tightly, carefully and gently placing the inhibitor patch over the area.
The source of the floral fragrance in the air was finally blocked. After Xu Que turned on the fresh air system to filter the room’s air, the small amount of remaining pheromones quickly dissipated.
Only the thin flush on Jiang Fengyi’s face could prove that everything that just happened wasn’t Xu Que’s hallucination.
Xu Que’s face was also red. Although the inhibitor patch completely covered the floral scent on Jiang Fengyi, her own body had been forced to pick up a lot of the other’s pheromone scent.
She looked down and sniffed herself inconspicuously a few times.
On her collar, in her sleeves, and between her strands of hair, a faint scent of epiphyllum lingered everywhere. She let out a micro-smile that was barely perceptible.
On the bed,
Having recovered her senses, Jiang Fengyi lay on her side with her back to Xu Que. The ear pressed against the pillow was red enough to bleed. Her thoughts were in disarray, and she hadn’t yet figured out how to face the person behind her.
“You go out first!”
