- Chapter 17 - Video Call
A Video Call with Number Three; Why is it another familiar face!?
Wen Leling saw the two new messages popping up at the top of his phone, and his heart jolted.
His body swayed, and he took a stumbling step forward. The soft, pale flesh at the top of his long legs rippled in a dazzling, tender wave, like shimmering water. It was a fleeting sight that made one’s heart itch with a sudden surge of heat.
Found out so quickly.
Wen Leling froze like a beautiful puppet with its internal gears removed. His eyes were fixed on the notification showing a user entering the stream, a hollow worry clouding his gaze.
Fu Tingchuan knew he had been blocked. What would he do next?
Would he think Wen Leling was a fickle, malicious person who flirted around and thus come to loathe and distance himself from him?
If that actually happened, it would ironically be exactly what Leling wanted.
Wen Leling was practically praying, praying that his Top Donator would discard him in disgust rather than opening a secondary account to climb the rankings.
Because once a user entered the top three, they automatically gained the authority to move the camera. The consequences of that would be unthinkable.
Anxious to ensure he did not miss any ID that might be Fu Tingchuan’s alt account, Wen Leling leaned forward slightly, bringing his face close to the screen.
The camera captured a close-up of his delicate face. His milky skin radiated a vivid pink glow. His breathing had not settled yet, and his chest rose and fell irregularly with shallow gasps. His frozen expression looked vacant, as if he had just been kissed fiercely, breathless, blurry, and dazed.
【WHAT! IS! HAPPENING!】
【The way baby is panting… (shocked.jpg)】
【Seducing me again.】
【Anyone who is not hard after watching this is a [thumbs up.jpg]】
【Then I am a [thumbs up.jpg][thumbs down.jpg][thumbs up.jpg][thumbs down.jpg]】
【Is he on the road already?】
【You are quite good at stirring things up.】
【That little face is so red, muamuamua.】
【Screen recording this for a midnight snack (drooling.jpg)】
【Can the camera move up a bit?】
【Forget it, we are lucky “One-Second Bro” has not moved the camera further down.】
The Number Three donor, who had been given that nickname, let out a dry cough and wordlessly tilted the camera lower. “What are you looking at?” he asked.
He had noticed Wen Leling’s strange behavior.
Wen Leling was staring so intently that when he heard the man’s clearly displeased voice, his eyes flickered. A perfunctory excuse was on the tip of his tongue, but a flood of gifts appeared first, the special effects completely swallowing the entire stream.
Like a fish out of water, Wen Leling’s lips parted twice. He watched a strange ID rush into the top three in a blur of motion, leaving him utterly speechless.
“Why did you block me?”
It was him.
Fu Tingchuan’s voice was cold, like an approaching storm, making it almost impossible for Wen Leling to breathe. His palms broke out in a cold sweat.
Just as he was worrying about how to adjust his state naturally under everyone’s eyes, to look like he was not lying and to get rid of Fu Tingchuan as quickly as possible, Fu Tingchuan took matters into his own hands and cut the camera feed without a word.
The screen was instantly swallowed by darkness. Fu Tingchuan commanded, “End the stream.”
Knowing no one could see him, Wen Leling let out a sigh of relief and fought back. “No, I have not reached my required streaming hours yet.”
He was not trying to evade Fu Tingchuan; it was the truth. It was almost the end of the month, and if he delayed any longer, he would be finished.
Wen Leling still remembered when he first joined the company. His father had incurred gambling debts, and debt collectors had come to the door claiming the son must pay for the father, throwing his and his mother’s lives into chaos. He was forcibly taken to the company for a brainwashing recruitment pitch. In a daze, he did not look closely at the details. He was simply shocked by the high salary and signed the contract with the boss.
Everything had been so smooth, with such excellent benefits, that Wen Leling only realized in hindsight how suspicious it all was.
Later, as expected, things went wrong.
When the first month’s settlement arrived, his base salary had vanished. The records claimed he had not streamed enough hours, and he was actually expected to pay the company a fine.
Wen Leling was dumbfounded. His first thought was to resign and terminate the contract, but he was held back by a staggering liquidated damages fee. He tried to save himself through legal means, but with the massive debt crushing him, he could not even afford a lawyer.
He was caught between a rock and a hard place.
The boss had seen many people in Wen Leling’s situation. He had spent half his life making “black heart” money off breach-of-contract fines and termination fees. Yet, for once, he hesitated. Ignoring the debt for a moment, he sincerely pointed out two paths for Wen Leling: stay by his side, or switch to being a borderline suggestive streamer.
Wen Leling clearly remembered the boss’s expression then, so confident, as if certain he would choose the former. But he chose the latter.
The boss’s face turned black instantly, devoid of any color. His eyes were as sharp as blades. Even recalling it days later made the hair on Wen Leling’s neck stand up.
For a period afterward, Wen Leling could see the boss’s pride had indeed been wounded. Otherwise, why would he be so petty as to find fault everywhere and set ridiculous performance targets just to make things difficult? It was frighteningly childish.
Initially, Wen Leling complained in secret, but when he actually managed to complete those tyrannical tasks at the end of the month, even he was surprised by his own resilience. After that, he stopped caring if the boss was still playing tricks out of spite.
In subsequent months, he finished his targets on time or even early. This month was the same, but because he had recently taken several leaves of absence and stood people up, the boss had found another opening to mess with him.
With a ten-year indentured servitude contract in the man’s hands, Wen Leling felt a suppressed rage he did not dare voice. He just wanted to earn enough to meet this month’s target as soon as possible.
That meant getting rid of Fu Tingchuan immediately. If he stayed any longer, what would the other ranked donors think? It looked like a young couple having a lover’s spat.
If Fu Tingchuan said anything else unpleasant to humiliate him, it would be even worse.
But before he could organize his words, the stream was suddenly shut down. His phone immediately jumped to a voice message notification from Han Wangfei.
Wen Leling played it: “I shut your stream down! Clean up the mess with the Top Donator before you open it again! Also, remember to coax Number Four, Three, and Two. Send me a nine-grid photo set later. I will log into the platform for you to say you had an emergency and had to end early tonight.” His tone was not as high-pitched as the first sentence, but the flatness made it feel even more serious.
Wen Leling rubbed his temples, feeling increasingly exhausted. Having no other choice, he typed a reply and sent nine photos he had just taken:
【Understood.】
【Image x9】
【Thanks for the hard work.】
He had no time to rest. He quickly contacted the Number Four, Three, and Two donors. As for Fu Tingchuan, the man was sending endless messages into an unresponsive chat box.
Recalling the man’s previous behavior, Wen Leling felt a secret sense of satisfaction.
No reply. He could not reply.
He put the man on Do Not Disturb.
Once you have decided you do not want someone, you cannot leave them even a shred of hope. It was better for everyone this way.
Number Three: 【Accept the video call.】
After a long time, having failed to get in touch with a single “brother,” Wen Leling was starting to feel like giving up. He did a simple cleanup and was about to go to bed. But just as he lay down, Number Three coincidentally made a move.
A video call?
Wen Leling was not prepared yet, but the call request popped up. Afraid of missing the chance to answer, he took it.
After all, he still had to rely on this person to hit his targets later to avoid more fines.
The moment he pressed the answer button, a familiar face appeared on the other side.
Wen Leling: ?
