- Chapter 6 - Changing Clothes: Watching His Wife Change
The snake took the opportunity to bite Chu Lanci’s wrist before turning to slip into the jungle and vanish. Xie Zhuo had not expected to be tackled to the ground by Chu Lanci at all.
Even if the venom had sprayed onto his own body, it would not have caused any issues.
Therefore, the reason Chu Lanci tackled him was…
Chu Lanci sat up and held out the hand bitten by the emerald snake; the wound had already turned black.
Despite this, he still asked, “Immortal, are you alright?”
Xie Zhuo sat up and asked, “Were you trying to save me just now?”
Chu Lanci replied, “Hm? I saw the venom flying toward you just now.” He spoke with a hint of embarrassment. “It was just a reflex; I did not think much about it.” It felt as though he had stayed with this immortal for a very long time, as he felt an indescribable sense of intimacy toward him. Since the immortal had helped him so much, he viewed this as a way to repay him.
“Give me your hand.”
Chu Lanci obediently reached out, and Xie Zhuo grabbed it gently. The moment they touched, the hand returned to being lustrous, white, and clean.
Chu Lanci was deeply grateful. “Immortal, thank you. I truly do not know how to thank you properly.”
Xie Zhuo remained silent. He did not need thanks; if it were not for him, Chu Lanci would not have been bitten in the first place.
Furthermore, it seemed Chu Lanci was indeed a straight man, a real man. A real man would protect the person he cared about. Based on this drive to protect others even at the risk of his own safety, this person was quite good. Since his two fathers had ascended, Xie Zhuo had not met a truly good person for a long time. This good man had innocently entered the Restricted Area and become entangled with someone as deep in sin as himself.
His peaceful life had been shattered because of Xie Zhuo.
If they could leave the Restricted Area, Xie Zhuo hoped he could return to his quiet life.
“Gather the fruit,” Xie Zhuo said.
Chu Lanci asked, “Are we not learning to catch snakes anymore?”
“You are not even afraid of snakes, so what is there left to learn?”
“I am still afraid.”
“We will learn when there is time.” Xie Zhuo looked up. “Once you have gathered the fruit, we are going back. It is getting dark.”
Hearing this, Chu Lanci nodded hurriedly and squatted down to pick up the fruit.
Because Chu Lanci was picking them up far too slowly, Xie Zhuo eventually stepped in to help. However, Xie Zhuo thought that relying entirely on magic was quite boring; picking them up one by one like this was actually interesting. It was especially interesting to watch Chu Lanci gather things. The man would occasionally kneel on one knee to pick items up, arching his back and tilting his hips. It was quite an imaginative posture.
Xie Zhuo did not know that after picking up many things, a person naturally gets tired, so kneeling on one knee was simply a result of that.
Regardless, influenced by the fragments of their dual cultivation, any movement Chu Lanci made looked like an act of seduction to Xie Zhuo.
The two spent most of the day dawdling and eventually only brought a few fruits back with them.
It began to rain on the way back. Xie Zhuo instinctively wanted to fly back, which would naturally require him to hold Chu Lanci.
But Chu Lanci firmly refused. “Immortal, I should walk back myself.”
Xie Zhuo frowned. “The rain is so heavy; do you want to be soaked?” As he spoke, a crack of thunder echoed in the sky, and another torrential downpour began to fall.
“I cannot always rely on you.” Chu Lanci felt very awkward. He was a man, too. In front of Xie Zhuo, he truly felt like a useless person. He was no good at picking fruit, gathering items, climbing trees, or catching snakes. Now that it was raining, did he really have to be carried back?
If he were a woman, he would certainly choose Xie Zhuo, but he was not. He had his own persistence.
“I will just run back myself.”
Xie Zhuo did not bother to persuade him further and turned to fly away.
Chu Lanci ran slowly while cradling a pile of fruit. Because of the rain, the path by the lava pool was very difficult to navigate. Since he was a mortal, he ran quite slowly.
It was a stroke of bad luck, added to the fact that the road was indeed treacherous. The Restricted Area was not a place where a mortal like him could survive. Chu Lanci stepped on a pebble, his foot slipped, and he took a fall. He scraped his skin, and the fruit tumbled down into the lava pool. Chu Lanci lay by the edge, wondering if he could retrieve the items.
His knee throbbed with pain; he had likely scraped it and was bleeding.
Just as he was about to check his wound with a sense of grievance, he sensed a gaze. He looked up to see Xie Zhuo standing still in the curtain of rain. His black robes and wide sleeves were not damp in the slightest; only a few drops of rain slid down his sharp jawline.
Xie Zhuo opened his thin lips. “What are you doing here so slowly?”
Chu Lanci replied aggrievedly, “My fruit fell down there.”
Xie Zhuo glanced at it and raised his hand, sweeping all the fruit into his spatial sleeve.
Seeing this, Chu Lanci smiled. “That is good. Let us go back.”
Xie Zhuo took a step forward to carry him. Chu Lanci hurriedly said, “There is no need, Immortal. I will not run so fast this time; I will walk back slowly.”
Xie Zhuo did not expect Chu Lanci to be so stubborn at a time like this. “You are injured, why are you still walking?” As he spoke, he reached for Chu Lanci’s waist and picked him up directly.
Chu Lanci was speechless. Thus, he was carried back.
The rain was torrential. Chu Lanci did not want to be too intimate with Xie Zhuo, so his entire body was stiff. He could see that carrying him was very easy for Xie Zhuo, as if he were merely picking up a small stone.
Before long, the two returned to the cave. The cave was warm and comfortable. Upon entering, Xie Zhuo set Chu Lanci down, treated his wound, and prepared to dry his clothes. However, the drying spell had a drawback: it could dry the outer layers, but not the inner ones. To dry the inner layers, one had to remove their clothes.
Chu Lanci was too embarrassed to say his inner clothes were still wet and did not want to trouble Xie Zhuo, so he claimed he was fine.
Xie Zhuo’s expression remained indifferent, and he did not respond.
Next was steaming the fruit. While Xie Zhuo meditated, Chu Lanci prepared a small pot to boil water and cook the fruit.
After working for a while, he finally produced a plate.
Once it was ready, Chu Lanci brought it over. His culinary skills were mediocre; he usually just managed with whatever was available. Busy with his livelihood every day, he did not have much of a pursuit for what he ate.
Just as he placed the plate of fruit beside Xie Zhuo, Xie Zhuo opened his eyes and saw the soft, mushy pile on the plate.
“You boiled the fruit?”
Chu Lanci nodded and smiled. “I thought it would be better to eat something hot.”
Xie Zhuo replied, “I am not hungry, and I do not need to eat.”
“Is that called Inedia?”
Xie Zhuo thought there was no need to answer this. However, he said, “Yes, it is called Inedia.”
Chu Lanci sat across from Xie Zhuo, eating as he spoke. “Immortal, can you cast these spells whenever you want?”
Xie Zhuo replied, “Of course not. It requires spiritual energy.”
Chu Lanci thought as much. “Then regarding the drying of clothes, I should do it myself. Actually, I…” Just as he finished speaking, he sneezed.
“Actually, what?”
“Actually, my health is quite good. This kind of minor cold will clear up in a few days. There is no need to trouble you with your spells.”
“As you wish,” Xie Zhuo replied.
After eating, Chu Lanci stood up and decided to dry his inner clothes. For some reason, he was too embarrassed to change in front of Xie Zhuo. He slowly moved to a darker corner of the cave and took off his inner garment.
He thought Xie Zhuo could not see him and that it was a visual blind spot. In reality, Xie Zhuo’s divine sense was already comparable to the Heavenly Dao; if he wished, he could see Chu Lanci’s internal organs clearly.
Xie Zhuo still felt that Chu Lanci was playing hard to get. He was hiding in the dark to change clothes so bashfully, even lifting his leg to wipe his body carefully.
Chu Lanci came back after changing, walking past Xie Zhuo while holding his inner garment. In fact, he was now “commando,” wearing nothing under his outer robe. Since the outer robe was wide and loose, as he sat by the campfire to dry his clothes, his thin chest was half-exposed and his white thighs were slightly visible. As the cliff wind blew past…
Xie Zhuo suddenly found it difficult to endure. He stood up and walked out of the cave with a darkened expression.
Chu Lanci, of course, did not know what had happened. After drying his inner garment, he thought no one was around and hurriedly put it back on.
Halfway through changing, he heard Xie Zhuo’s voice from outside.
“Are you finished?”
Chu Lanci’s hand paused. The immortal knew he was changing clothes and was telling him to hurry up? No way, how could he know? He quickened his pace, wrapping himself in several layers, and shouted, “I am finished.”
Looking up, he saw Xie Zhuo enter. Chu Lanci sat there curled up like an ostrich.
After Xie Zhuo entered, he saw Chu Lanci wrapped up tightly. He wondered how afraid the man was of being “attacked.”
However, the Frost Cold Curse had not flared up for two days; perhaps it would come tonight.
He lowered his handsome eyes and said, “Go to sleep.” Then he turned and got onto the bed, resting his head on his hands with his eyes closed to sleep.
Chu Lanci originally thought Xie Zhuo would meditate, but he had not expected him to just take over the bed so bluntly. Well, it was not exactly his bed; the bed and furniture had been arranged by Xie Zhuo.
It was fine; they were both men, so what was there to fear? He slowly paced over and climbed onto the bed as well.
Xie Zhuo was tall with broad shoulders and long legs, taking up more than half the bed, but he still left a small portion for Chu Lanci. After climbing onto the bed, Chu Lanci lay down with his back toward Xie Zhuo. He was not usually this resistant to men, but for some reason, he felt quite uncomfortable around Xie Zhuo.
After he lay down, Xie Zhuo waved his hand, and the candlelight was extinguished. The cave fell into silence and darkness.
The two lay side by side without speaking, allowing the darkness to envelop them.
Xie Zhuo, of course, did not need to sleep. Aside from meditating daily, he had nothing else to do, as his cultivation had reached its peak. But tonight, was different; he had something to do.
The Frost Cold Curse should be coming tonight.
So, will it come?
