Chapter 22.1: Housewife 22
The interior of the room was very quiet. The weather had turned cool, so Tang Yiqing had closed all the windows and drawn the curtains. He leaned against the headboard, idly picking up a book to flip through. Away from the clamor downstairs, he felt a sense of peace he had never experienced before.
He was deep in thought when a sudden knock sounded at the door. Tang Yiqing looked toward the entrance, wondering if Shen Zeqi had actually come looking for him.
While he was debating whether or not to open the door, He Chenguang’s voice sounded from outside. “Yiqing, it’s me. Are you resting?”
A strange expression flickered across Tang Yiqing’s face. What was he doing here? Had he grown so arrogant as to come to his room for a showdown?
“Wait a moment.” Tang Yiqing got out of bed. No matter what the other man came for, there was no reason not to open the door. Cowering in the room like a coward would only invite ridicule.
The door opened to reveal He Chenguang standing there with a polite smile. “I’ve toured the rest of the place, so I thought I’d come by and see your room.”
These words sounded as if a future master had come to inspect the premises. Tang Yiqing stepped aside from the doorway. “Come in then. Since I’m here, I can let you in; otherwise, you wouldn’t have the chance to see it.”
This bedroom had been specially arranged by Mother Shen. In terms of seniority and status, she was the true mistress of the Shen household. Since Mother Shen had insisted he stay and wouldn’t let him leave, this room was his territory. He decided who entered; if he didn’t want someone there, no one could get in.
Since the enemy had already charged to his doorstep, no matter how good his temper was, he couldn’t allow himself to be trampled upon.
He Chenguang’s face stiffened for a moment, but he quickly regained that faint, smiling facade. “Don’t overthink it. I just came to take a look. The pheromones of those two Alphas downstairs are torturous enough to kill someone. I had nowhere else to go, so I came up to see you.”
Tang Yiqing remained silent. He had to admire He Chenguang’s thick skin; the man probably didn’t even believe his own hypocritical words.
This room was the largest and best on the second floor. Despite the presence of many of the child’s belongings making it look somewhat cluttered, it couldn’t hide the room’s luxury and solemnity.
He Chenguang’s eyes swept over the furniture and decorations. The more he looked, the more his eyes burned with envy. Every corner of this place filled him with longing.
He looked at the large bed, his hand brushing over the headboard before he sat down on it. The soft mattress was incredibly comfortable. He thought about how wonderful it would be to sleep in this bed.
Tang Yiqing’s brow furrowed slightly. Looking at the dazed He Chenguang, he suddenly realized the man hadn’t come to provoke him; he was truly envious of him living here. His gaze followed every detail with yearning.
Thinking about it, he was also quite pathetic. He had liked Shen Mingzheng since school, and after becoming a widower, he got back together with him. He had stayed by Shen Mingzheng’s side for so many years yet still had no official status and couldn’t be presented in public. It was nicely called a childhood sweetheart bond, but in the eyes of those who knew the truth, he was nothing more than a mistress, a shameful home-wrecker.
“If Shen Mingzheng truly marries you in the future, you will live here,” Tang Yiqing said slowly.
He Chenguang snapped out of it, slowly digesting Tang Yiqing’s words. Scenes of his time with Shen Mingzheng played in his mind, both good and bad… He suddenly let out a cold, self-mocking laugh. Shen Mingzheng was treating him worse and worse lately…
Recently, he was always impatient with him, and the look in his eyes was cold.
He Chenguang’s hands clenched abruptly, a glimmer of hatred surfacing in his eyes. He hated Shen Mingzheng, he hated Tang Yiqing, and he hated himself for not being the master of this place!
He looked at Tang Yiqing with a complex gaze, genuinely detesting him, but having worn the mask for so long, he couldn’t take it off. His lips still curled into a hypocritical smile. “I’ll take that as a good omen. Actually, it should be soon, right? You’ve already divorced him.”
Tang Yiqing turned his head away, not bothering to look at him. “Yes. So you should have a bit more patience and not be so eager.”
He Chenguang let out a cold laugh. “I’m eager? This clearly should have been mine. Who was it that used a pregnancy to get the position? If it weren’t for you, my child with Mingzheng would be the same age as Shanyu.”
Tang Yiqing’s face turned cold. No matter how he explained what happened back then, no one believed him. At this point, he was even less inclined to bring it up.
“So what? Right now, the owner of this room is still me. If I tell you to get out, you have to get out,” Tang Yiqing said coldly. His cheeks flushed slightly with anger, and his voice trembled a bit, but he forced himself to maintain his stance. “Now, I am telling you to get out.”
He Chenguang stood up abruptly, unable to control his agitation. “You’re divorced! Why are you still occupying someone else’s house!”
Tang Yiqing’s temper flared as well. Just as he was about to retort, he heard a cold sneer. “Whether the Shen family is willing to let him occupy it is for you to judge? Even if they are divorced, he is still Shen Shanyu’s mother. What kind of thing are you, running into someone else’s room to squawk like a chicken?”
As the voice became clearer, Shen Zeqi appeared. He entered the room, walking step by step toward He Chenguang.
The moment Shen Zeqi’s voice rang out, He Chenguang’s momentum vanished. Seeing the tall Alpha approaching, his body began to tremble.
Shen Zeqi raised his hand, and with a sharp slap, it landed on He Chenguang’s cheek. The sound made Tang Yiqing flinch as well.
He Chenguang’s face immediately swelled up. He clutched his face in disbelief, his eyes red and glaring hatefully at Shen Zeqi, but he didn’t dare say a word.
Shen Zeqi took a tissue from his pocket to wipe his hand, then tossed the paper onto He Chenguang. He walked toward Tang Yiqing. “To dare speak to him like that, you really don’t know your place. You’re a creature not even fit to carry my shoes.”
He Chenguang was finally provoked into tears. Just then, Shen Mingzheng, who had come upstairs, passed the door and saw the scene inside.
He had originally been furious at Shen Zeqi and had stayed downstairs for a while to calm his emotions before coming up. In that short time, He Chenguang had been hit. Since this was the person he brought, being hit was equivalent to a slap in his own face.
He Chenguang lunged at him, wrapping his arms around his waist, his aggrieved tears falling like a broken dam. “Mingzheng…”
Shen Mingzheng’s fingertips touched his face, then he looked at the two people opposite him. “Shen Zeqi, what is the meaning of this?”
Shen Zeqi shrugged. “What do you mean ‘what’s the meaning’? I hit him, that’s it. There’s no deeper meaning.”
Shen Mingzheng was so angry the veins on his forehead bulged. “You hit my person just like that? Do you really think I don’t dare lay a hand on you?”
“Go ahead. I’m ‘sick’ right now anyway. If you’re not afraid of making me go crazy, come at me,” Shen Zeqi laughed. He then pointed casually at He Chenguang. “Mingzheng, your taste is truly terrible. Only you would like someone with such a lowly habit of picking fights at people’s doors.”
Shen Mingzheng was taken aback, then looked at the person in his arms. He Chenguang immediately lifted his tear-stained face. “No, Mingzheng… I didn’t…”
Shen Mingzheng knit his brows, his eyes darkening. He Chenguang’s heart tightened, and he gripped his waist even harder. “Mingzheng, you have to believe me. I just wanted to come up and take a look…”
Shen Zeqi gave a “tsk.” “Alright, stop acting in this melodrama. Yiqing and I are going to sleep. Get lost.”
Shen Mingzheng froze, immediately looking at the two of them. His eyes narrowed with a heavy sense of danger. “You’re really staying the night here?”
“I never joke,” Shen Zeqi said.
Shen Mingzheng bit his teeth and looked at Tang Yiqing. “You’re really letting him stay the night here?”
Tang Yiqing lowered his head and stopped looking at him, remaining silent.
Shen Mingzheng nodded repeatedly. “Fine, fine, fine. My room is empty too, and I was just worrying about having no one to warm the bed. We won’t disturb you two then.”
Shen Mingzheng’s tone was vicious. His gaze never left Tang Yiqing from start to finish, but until the moment he left, Tang Yiqing didn’t look at him once.
Once everyone was gone, Shen Zeqi closed the door. The room fell silent. Tang Yiqing felt the noisy voices vanish instantly; his ears were finally at peace.
However, looking at Shen Zeqi at the door, he felt flustered. Was he really not leaving…?
Shen Zeqi leaned against the door, watching him quietly. Tang Yiqing stood by the window where several pots of bright flowers were blooming. Blocked by the gauze curtains, the scene was hazy and ethereal. Shen Zeqi thought Tang Yiqing, with his downcast eyes, looked even more beautiful than those flowers.
He let out a yawn and stretched, then walked over to the bed in a swaggering manner, flopping down in a starfish position. “I’m tired.”
Tang Yiqing looked at him, standing by the bed without moving. Shen Zeqi turned onto his side and looked at Tang Yiqing. “I’m tired, Tang Yiqing.”
Tang Yiqing looked at him. “Then… do you want to go back and rest?”
“No,” Shen Zeqi said. “I’m this tired all because I was backing you up. Don’t you think you should give me some kind of reward?”
Tang Yiqing looked at the person lying on the bed and did see exhaustion in his features. A scent of medicine was currently drifting through the room.
“You… why did you come back? Weren’t you supposed to be at the hospital?” Tang Yiqing asked.
Shen Zeqi reached out a hand toward him. “Come here. Come here and I’ll tell you.”
Tang Yiqing was wary of him and walked over slowly, but he was still grabbed by the hand and pulled onto the bed, landing almost on top of him. He heard Shen Zeqi give a muffled groan. Before he could react, his lips felt a wave of heat—they were kissing.
Tang Yiqing was dazed, raising his hand to push him away, but Shen Zeqi held him even tighter. Then he heard him say, “I have spies in this house. I heard someone brought a mistress to show off, so I thought of coming back immediately to back you up.”
Hearing this, Tang Yiqing felt it was a bit absurd. Planting spies in his own home? But his heart felt a little warm. Soon after, he felt Shen Zeqi’s large hand cover his stomach, and his nose rubbed against his neck as if sniffing his scent. Before long, his hand slipped into his clothes to massage his belly.
“You didn’t eat much tonight; there’s no food in your stomach,” Shen Zeqi said. His voice was a bit thick, as if he were intoxicated.
Tang Yiqing couldn’t stand this kind of cloying intimacy—it was like how he treated his pets. He struggled to get up. Shen Zeqi tried to scoop him back. In the back-and-forth, Tang Yiqing’s elbow jabbed into the other’s chest. He heard a muffled groan as Shen Zeqi leaned back, nearly falling off the edge of the bed.
Tang Yiqing’s expression changed, and he turned back to look at him. Shen Zeqi was sick, after all; he couldn’t send him back to the hospital. Besides, if he annoyed him, who knew what crazy thing he might do.
“Are… are you okay?” Tang Yiqing asked guiltily.
Shen Zeqi clutched his chest. “I’m hurt. It’ll only get better if you give me a kiss.”
Seeing him acting indecent, Tang Yiqing didn’t want to bother with him. But then he saw Shen Zeqi stretch his body and actually open his cabinet door. Being tall and long-limbed, he didn’t even get off the bed. He then flipped over and went to the drawer inside the cabinet.
Tang Yiqing’s heart skipped a beat when he saw the action. He knew exactly what was in there: the pheromone extract from Shen Shuowen!
He had clearly placed that item in a well-sealed box and even put it in a drawer inside the cabinet. How did Shen Zeqi find it!
Just as Shen Zeqi took out the wooden box, the quick-handed Tang Yiqing snatched it away. His face turned red with anxiety, looking as if he were facing a great enemy.
Shen Zeqi was startled by his reaction, then closed in on Tang Yiqing. He used his hand to pry away the hand Tang Yiqing had hidden behind his back, then saw Tang Yiqing nervously holding the box aloft.
“Whose is it? You’re so nervous.” Shen Zeqi approached, exuding a sense of danger.
Tang Yiqing didn’t know how to explain for a moment. “You… how can you just go through people’s things!”
Shen Zeqi laughed for a second. “Can’t help it. Who told me to be born with such a sharp sense of smell? Even though you hid it well, I still smelled a ‘wild Alpha’ scent on it.”
Tang Yiqing’s face turned red. It seemed Shen Zeqi didn’t know who this “wild Alpha” was yet. This made him breathe a sigh of relief; he didn’t dare imagine how terrifying the reaction would be if Zeqi knew whose it was.
“Good Yiqing, what exactly is hidden in here? Tell me quickly,” Shen Zeqi said. He had already pinned Tang Yiqing against the wall, trapping him.
Tang Yiqing looked at his half-smiling expression and felt a chill from the bottom of his heart. “This… I bought this during my last heat… it helps me feel better during the heat…”
Tang Yiqing’s voice grew smaller and smaller, but the corners of Shen Zeqi’s mouth curled higher and higher. “So that’s how it is. Then what is there to be nervous about… but if you wanted pheromones, why didn’t you come to me? I can give them to you, and in plenty of supply.”
Tang Yiqing looked at him, meeting those deep, dark eyes. His heart couldn’t help but tremble, sensing danger approaching. Before he could react, the peach-scented pheromones had already surrounded him, making his body go limp instantly.
Shen Zeqi lifted his chin and pressed his lips against his, kissing him bit by bit, sucking on his lip. He then pressed on his chin to make him open his mouth so his tongue could enter and play.
Tang Yiqing’s waist was held tight. The item in his hand was tossed aside by Shen Zeqi, who then pressed him onto the bed.
Tang Yiqing’s hands pushed weakly against Shen Zeqi’s chest. He felt as if he couldn’t breathe. A numbing sensation spread from his lips and tongue. A hot, large hand slid in through the hem of his clothes, kneading his skin wantonly, making his body tremble in waves.
When Tang Yiqing was finally released, his eyes were out of focus and he was breathing heavily. The flush on his cheeks had spread, making for a heart-stirring sight. Shen Zeqi laughed and kissed his beautiful eyes, making Tang Yiqing’s eyelashes quiver.
Shen Zeqi leaned Tang Yiqing against the headboard and then bent down. It took a while for Tang Yiqing’s eyes to focus and for him to react. He hurriedly grabbed his own waistband. “Don’t…”
“Don’t?” Shen Zeqi laughed. “I think you want it very much.”
“It’s only because your pheromones are affecting me…” Tang Yiqing’s eyes were filled with watery light and his voice was airy, but before he could finish, his hands suddenly clenched tight.
