Chapter 20.1: Housewife
Shen Mingzheng hung up the phone with a dark expression. He pondered over everything that had happened these past few days why on earth would Tang Yiqing bring up a divorce?
Yesterday, he realized Tang Yiqing wasn’t at home. Upon asking the servants, he found out Tang Yiqing hadn’t been home for three days and wasn’t answering his calls. He specifically investigated Zhuo Mingyuan’s schedule for the past few days; Tang Yiqing hadn’t been with him, which finally set his mind at ease.
It wasn’t that Tang Yiqing had never run away from home before. He did it right after giving birth because Shen Mingzheng hadn’t shown his face once during the labor or the postpartum recovery. As soon as Tang Yiqing recovered, he took the child and left.
It was his parents who had frantically searched and found out Tang Yiqing had returned to his maternal home. It was also his parents who brought him back. From start to finish, Shen Mingzheng never showed up. Afterward, he even found the situation hilarious; Tang Yiqing’s own family had already “sold” him to the Shen family, yet he actually had the heart to go back there.
If his parents hadn’t been concerned for the mother and child, a single phone call would have been enough to make the Tang family send them back in perfect condition.
Another time he ran away was on Valentine’s Day, after Tang Yiqing accidentally caught him and He Chenguang on a date at a romantic restaurant. At the time, Shen Mingzheng had simply brushed it off—it was impossible for him to make a scene in public.
In truth, he had done a lot for He Chenguang. Not only did he boost his career, but he also bought him a house to settle down in A-City. However, with Tang Yiqing’s limited skills as a “house-husband,” he could never dig up any actual evidence.
Tang Yiqing had made a scene then too, bluffing about a divorce, but what was the result? It ended in nothing, as usual.
And now, he was acting out again. How would it end this time? A mocking smile curled on Shen Mingzheng’s gloomy face.
Except, this time felt somewhat different…
In his daze, his arm was bumped. He Chenguang’s soft voice followed, “What are you thinking about? Why so fierce all of a sudden? You’ve scared Shanyu.”
Shen Mingzheng looked at him with an ugly expression. “Do you think it’s appropriate for us to take family photos together?”
He Chenguang froze. His expression dimmed, and his eyes reddened. “I’m sorry… I was inconsiderate. Did I make Yiqing angry?”
Mentioning Tang Yiqing only irritated Shen Mingzheng. He frowned. “What does it have to do with him?”
He hadn’t wanted to take the photos in the first place; he had been dragged there by He Chenguang. The more he thought about it, the angrier he got, and he even started to feel annoyed with He Chenguang.
If He Chenguang hadn’t egged him on to call Tang Yiqing to the bar, none of this trouble would have happened, let alone this divorce nonsense. It was simply restless.
He Chenguang released his pheromones to soothe Shen Mingzheng’s emotions. “Mingzheng, don’t be angry. We won’t take them anymore. Let’s go grab a meal together, okay?”
Shen Mingzheng knit his brows, feeling a wave of repulsion. He was growing increasingly tired of He Chenguang’s pheromones. Initially, they were sweet, but as the years went by, they became cloying.
Except for in bed or at entertainment venues like bars, he found them nauseating at all other times. Only in lustful settings did that cloying sweetness turn into an aphrodisiac because it was sufficiently “flirtatious.”
“No need. I’ll take Shanyu back first,” Shen Mingzheng said with restraint.
He grabbed Shen Shanyu’s hand. Looking at the little boy, he felt another surge of irritation. It seemed the kid truly didn’t know who his real mother was.
The man and the child walked out of the studio first. He Chenguang followed behind. Looking at Shen Mingzheng’s back, the resentment on his face became increasingly uncontrollable, and his hands clenched tightly.
Why? Why did he still not have an official status after all this time!
Tang Yiqing stayed alone in the hotel for another two days. Shen Shuowen had gone to Huo Wei’s place. It was a good thing he wasn’t around; otherwise, Tang Yiqing wouldn’t have known how to face him after what happened. His mind was a mess, and he didn’t know if the upcoming plot would be affected.
However, he still felt an addiction to Shen Shuowen’s pheromones. When the red wine scent faded, he couldn’t help but search for it. Sometimes he would bury his head in the blankets to smell where Shen Shuowen had lied.
When the scent of Shen Shuowen’s pheromones was completely gone from his body, he stepped out of the hotel room. He placed a pheromone suppressor patch on his nape to hide the bite mark.
When he arrived at the Shen residence, it was just in time for breakfast. The massive dining table was currently empty.
It wasn’t until Shen Shanyu came downstairs and saw Tang Yiqing that a subconscious look of joy appeared on his small face. “Mommy.”
Tang Yiqing walked over and rubbed his head. “What have you been doing these past few days?”
“Nothing much… Mommy, where have you been? I couldn’t find you,” Shen Shanyu said grumpily.
Tang Yiqing didn’t answer him. His face was gentle as usual, wearing a faint smile. “Shanyu, didn’t you take family photos? You must have been very happy.”
It was ridiculous for his son to take family photos with another Omega, yet within their “family of three,” it was exceptionally logical. He had given birth to Shen Shanyu, yet no one had ever made his heart turn so cold.
He had always been following the plot, but the child was his own flesh and blood. He had never been able to let go, but now, he finally had.
At this moment, Shen Shanyu felt a flicker of fear. He couldn’t help but take a step back. His mother had always been gentle and loving, like sunlight wrapping around him, but now, even though his mother was smiling, he felt so cold.
Just then, footsteps came from the stairs. Shen Shanyu immediately ran over and hugged Shen Mingzheng’s leg. “Daddy, Mommy is so scary…”
Shen Mingzheng scolded him, “What nonsense are you talking!”
Then his gaze turned toward Tang Yiqing, his eyes darkening. “Where have you been? Leaving a four-year-old at home for days without coming back.”
“What about you? Why are you constantly not at home?” Tang Yiqing asked, looking at Shen Mingzheng with red-rimmed eyes.
Shen Mingzheng was stunned. This was the first time Tang Yiqing had questioned him like this. In the past, he never dared to ask, knowing he wouldn’t get an answer and would only be ignored.
His mood was off; Shen Mingzheng noticed it.
“The child needs a mother,” Shen Mingzheng said.
A smile pulled at Tang Yiqing’s grieving face. “Isn’t He Chenguang a perfect fit then?”
“What are you talking about!” Shen Mingzheng looked uncomfortable. He walked toward the dining table. “Stop throwing a tantrum. Come eat.”
“I’m not throwing a tantrum,” Tang Yiqing said calmly. “I really want a divorce. Shen Mingzheng, I want to divorce you.”
Shen Mingzheng stopped in his tracks. He walked up to Tang Yiqing in a few strides, his presence oppressive. “Say that again?”
Tang Yiqing wiped his eyes. “I want a divorce. I’m serious.”
A cold sneer curled on Shen Mingzheng’s lips. “Tang Yiqing, what right do you have to talk to me about divorce? Do you even deserve it?”
“Who was it that chased after me shamelessly back then? And who was it that used unscrupulous means, even drugging me to get into my bed and get pregnant!”
Tang Yiqing almost screamed, “I didn’t! I told you I didn’t!”
Shen Shanyu began to wail in terror at their fighting. “Mommy, don’t tell Daddy you want a divorce! Daddy really will do it… We can be with Uncle Xiao He, and then Mommy will be all alone…”
“Shut up!” The veins on Shen Mingzheng’s forehead bulged. “Someone take the kid away! Stop that howling, it’s annoying!”
The servants immediately came and took the young master away. The others scrambled to find tasks to do, staying far away from the battlefield. This was the first time they had seen the Young Mistress so firm; perhaps this time it was for real…
The hall fell silent. Tang Yiqing wiped away his tears, forcing himself not to cry. After all, this was the man he had loved for so many years and the father of his child; he couldn’t help but be heartbroken.
If there were even a sliver of hope, he wouldn’t have reached this point.
Shen Mingzheng’s agitated aura settled. Looking at the weeping Tang Yiqing, he felt frustrated. His voice softened. “Isn’t this just because of that incident at the bar? How big of a deal is it? Didn’t your senior sit next to you too? I’ll come home early lately, okay? Stop making trouble.”
Tang Yiqing’s tears stopped, though his eyes were still red. He looked at the man before him who didn’t take his words of divorce seriously at all, and suddenly grew calm.
The acting buff provided by the system triggered at the critical moment, making his performance flawless—appearing completely immersed in the scene. In reality, he, the protagonist of this “abuse novel,” still hadn’t reached true resolution, but he was backed into a corner and had no choice but to divorce.
“I’m not making trouble,” Tang Yiqing said. He spoke earnestly. “From the moment I mentioned divorce, I wasn’t joking. I really want to divorce.”
Hearing Tang Yiqing’s words, Shen Mingzheng felt a surge of wicked fire. “Tang Yiqing, if you say it again, I really will agree. When that happens—”
Before he could finish, Tang Yiqing spoke: “Divorce.”
“You treat ‘divorce’ like a damn catchphrase! If we divorce, you leave with nothing! The child belongs to the Shen family!” Shen Mingzheng said. At this moment, he was like a beast on the verge of a rampage, unable to find an outlet for his rage.
“Fine. The child stays with you,” Tang Yiqing said.
“You!” Shen Mingzheng’s brows furrowed. For a moment, he was in disbelief. Tang Yiqing was actually dead-set on the divorce. Subconsciously, he didn’t want to divorce at all; a sense of panic began to spread in his heart.
