Chapter 15: Housewife
After leaving the airport, Tang Yiqing and Shen Shuowen went their separate ways. He returned to the Shen residence, while Shen Shuowen headed to the company.
The Shen family car picked him up. It was near dusk when the vehicle drove through the main gates. Tang Yiqing stepped out of the car, his mind a chaotic blur, his whole being somewhat dazed.
Before he could organize his thoughts, a tiny figure entered his field of vision. Tang Yiqing’s gaze slowly regained focus, and looking over, he saw Shen Shanyu hiding behind a sculpture in the courtyard, occasionally poking his head out to peek at him.
Curious as to why he was acting this way, Tang Yiqing walked toward him and waved. “Shanyu, why are you hiding?”
Seeing him approach, Shen Shanyu tucked his entire small body behind the sculpture. Tang Yiqing couldn’t help but chuckle; only in moments like this did the boy show a child’s innocent charm. However, knowing Shen Shanyu’s true nature, he wasn’t fooled.
He crept quietly behind the sculpture and found the boy still peeking outward, unable to find Tang Yiqing’s silhouette.
“What are you doing, Shanyu?” Tang Yiqing knelt down and looked at him gently.
Shen Shanyu jumped at the sound of his voice. When he looked over, his eyes were actually red. He swung his tiny fists and hammered them against Tang Yiqing’s shoulder. “You’re a bad mommy! I don’t want a bad mommy anymore!”
Tang Yiqing was startled but easily caught the two small fists. Shen Shanyu tried to break free and run, but he couldn’t escape. Tears of grievance began to fall.
“Why are you calling Mommy bad?” Tang Yiqing asked.
Shen Shanyu looked at Tang Yiqing, his tears falling faster and faster. Suddenly, he let out a loud wail. “Second Uncle said you didn’t want me anymore! You’re a bad mommy who doesn’t want her own kid!”
Tang Yiqing realized it was Shen Zeqi. He had been avoiding the man for days and hadn’t seen him since before C City. While there, he had received messages from Shen Zeqi asking where he went, but he hadn’t replied.
Watching Shen Shanyu cry so heartwrenchingly, he couldn’t help but smile. “Are you crying so hard because you couldn’t bear to lose Mommy?”
At Tang Yiqing’s words, the boy’s small body froze. Tang Yiqing had already let go of his hands. He wiped his tears with the back of his hand, making his eyes redder and redder, and said defiantly, “I am not!”
He had said the same thing to his second uncle at the time, but he had cried immediately after saying it, and the nanny couldn’t comfort him no matter what.
“Yes, you are, otherwise why would you cry so hard?” Tang Yiqing said. He reached out and ruffled Shen Shanyu’s hair. “Your second uncle was teasing you. See? Mommy is back.”
Shen Shanyu looked blankly at the person before him. The scent on Tang Yiqing was so pleasant, he was so gentle, and his embrace was warm. Every time he held him, Shanyu felt so comfortable; the embrace was so fragrant.
But when he snapped back to his senses, his face instantly turned a deep crimson. His jaw clamped shut, his face full of shame and anger.
A child’s expressions were just that simple and easy to read. In truth, Tang Yiqing found it baffling—was it really that hard to admit he liked his own mother?
Shen Shanyu suddenly pushed Tang Yiqing with force, nearly knocking him onto the ground. Then, he heard Shanyu scream, “I don’t! I don’t!”
After shouting, Shen Shanyu ran away. Tang Yiqing watched his small retreating figure and stood up, feeling perplexed and somewhat helpless. What a stubborn, awkward child.
Thanks to a child like Shen Shanyu, he didn’t feel a shred of genuine affection, allowing him to leave this world without any lingering attachments once the mission was complete.
Before he could even enter the house, Shen Zeqi emerged from the villa as if he had timed Tang Yiqing’s return perfectly.
“It’s really not easy to get a glimpse of you,” Shen Zeqi said.
Tang Yiqing’s face showed his displeasure, and he averted his gaze. “Shanyu is so small. Don’t say those things to him anymore.”
Shen Zeqi gave a “tsk.” “You’re truly good to that ungrateful little wolf.”
Tang Yiqing brushed past him aggressively. Just as he reached for the door to enter, Shen Zeqi clamped a hand around his wrist. He was startled and looked around; the servants were busy with their own tasks and no one was paying attention.
“What exactly do you want?” Tang Yiqing lowered his voice.
“I watched your livestream. Why did you withdraw halfway through?” Shen Zeqi stared directly into Tang Yiqing’s eyes.
Tang Yiqing hadn’t expected Shen Zeqi to pay such close attention to him. Being stared at by those dark eyes made him feel as if he were being seen through.
“I don’t need to give you an account of my affairs,” Tang Yiqing said coldly.
But Shen Zeqi still didn’t let go, taking a step closer. “Did you suddenly go into heat?”
Tang Yiqing froze. Then he heard Shen Zeqi ask, “Who took care of it for you?”
Tang Yiqing panicked. He forcefully shook off the hand and entered the villa. “Keep your filthy thoughts to yourself!”
Once inside, Tang Yiqing headed straight for the second floor. It wasn’t until he returned to his own room that his heartbeat finally steadied.
If others found out he had spent the days of his heat with Shen Shuowen, would anyone believe they were innocent?
Clearly not.
If discovered, not only would he be labeled as unfaithful, but a man like Shen Shuowen, who never acted out of line, would have his reputation ruined as well.
At this thought, Tang Yiqing couldn’t help but feel a surge of resentment. His body was already suffering severe issues due to pheromones; even if he were unfaithful, so what? Who had ever considered his well-being?
After washing up, he leaned against the headboard, unable to settle his mind. He should find time to visit the hospital again…
Just as his thoughts were in disarray, he suddenly caught a scent that brought him peace—wisps of red wine…
Tang Yiqing followed the scent and opened the drawer of his bedside table. Inside was the glass bottle containing the milky-white liquid, which featured fine silver shimmer. It looked like a beautiful decorative item.
He recalled Shen Shuowen’s stern face. How could that man have thought to put shimmer in it?
The glass bottle was not only beautiful but also emitted an alluring scent. He hadn’t used it once. Before going to C City, he had hesitated over the bottle for a long time, eventually leaving it behind because it felt too strange.
Now, that feeling of strangeness had vanished. This was the medicine that would alleviate his heat, something that would stop him from being so miserable. His mind calmed, and he felt an impulse to open the cap and smell the contents.
Ultimately, Tang Yiqing took a deep breath and closed the drawer, as if shielding himself from a fatal temptation.
Night fell. Tang Yiqing lay down to sleep, only to vaguely hear someone calling his name from downstairs. His heart tightened, and he quickly adjusted his clothes before heading down.
When he reached the first floor, the voice finally stopped. He saw Shen Mingzheng sitting drunkenly on the sofa.
Tang Yiqing was surprised. He thought Mingzheng would play in C City with He Chenguang for a few more days; he hadn’t expected him to return so soon.
The drunken man waved a hand at him. Tang Yiqing walked over slowly, only to be grabbed by the wrist and pulled down to sit beside him.
Tang Yiqing felt a wave of discomfort. He resisted being so close to Shen Mingzheng. Having their shoulders nearly touching triggered a physical revulsion in him.
Just then, Shen Mingzheng pulled a pink gift box from his pocket and handed it to him. He said nonchalantly, “Open it.”
Tang Yiqing took it, untied the ribbon, and opened the box. A necklace lay inside. Unsure of the meaning, he looked at Shen Mingzheng.
“Do you like it?” Shen Mingzheng had a smirk on his face, looking confident that Yiqing would love the gift. “Why the look of disbelief? It’s really for you.”
Tang Yiqing forced a smile. This was indeed the first time Shen Mingzheng had ever given him a gift. It was a very bizarre gesture, but as the plot progressed to this point, his reaction to this hard-won gift should be surprise and heartache rather than joy. Still, he said, “I like it.”
The shadows of the trees outside swayed, and the light from the necklace sparkled. The fragmented light fell on Tang Yiqing’s face, making the scene look moving, like a frame from a movie.
Shen Mingzheng couldn’t help but look on, entranced. Just then, there was movement in the living room. Someone had entered, followed by the sound of footsteps, which snapped Shen Mingzheng out of his daze.
A second later, the tall Alpha appeared before them, his gaze colliding with Tang Yiqing’s.
The man was still in his suit, likely just back from the office. His eyes swept over the smile on Yiqing’s face and the necklace in his hand, then he retracted his gaze.
“Big Brother! You’re back.” Due to the alcohol, Shen Mingzheng’s voice was somewhat excited.
Shen Shuowen gave a curt acknowledgment and didn’t look back. “I’m going upstairs to rest.”
Tang Yiqing’s gaze followed his figure upward. With every step Shuowen took up the stairs, his heart felt an inexplicable tightness. Thinking of Shen Shuowen’s look just now, his chest felt stifled, as if he couldn’t breathe.
It was a very strange sensation. How could it be so strange? He had always remained a detached observer, unaffected by them, but now why did he feel influenced by Shen Shuowen…?
Was it really because of the pheromones?
As he pondered his own unusual behavior, he completely failed to notice that Shen Mingzheng had taken the necklace from his hand and was putting it on him.
Shen Mingzheng looked at the snowy-white neck before him and instinctively leaned in, wanting to press a kiss onto that delicate skin.
Tang Yiqing suddenly felt warm breath on his skin, which made him snap back to reality. He immediately pushed the man away and stood up.
Shen Mingzheng looked at him with annoyance. “What are you doing!”
Tang Yiqing instinctively touched the necklace. “Sorry, I was just spacing out. I really like the necklace.”
“Truly, when given a chance, you’re useless,” Shen Mingzheng said, then waved a hand. “Forget it, as long as you like it.”
“I’m sorry,” Tang Yiqing said. “I’m a bit tired. I’m going upstairs to rest.”
“All you know how to do is apologize. You might as well rename yourself ‘I’m Sorry,'” Shen Mingzheng tugged irritably at his tie. “Go, go, go. Seeing you just irritates me.”
Tang Yiqing said nothing more and returned upstairs, leaving Shen Mingzheng sitting on the sofa, wondering. Had he seen it wrong just now?
Was that a look of affection from Tang Yiqing? Why did it feel more like disgust? Was he really that drunk?
