Chapter 14: Housewife
In a daze, Tang Yiqing woke up. He had been in the midst of unbearable desire just last night, but now he could clearly feel that the tide had receded.
He was still in a stupor. He checked the time and realized, to his shock, that three days had already passed since he participated in the competition.
Tang Yiqing sat up and looked at the room around him. As scenes flashed through his mind, his face flushed with shame. Was that clingy person really him…?
Before he could fully process the events of the past few days, he heard his door open. Someone was coming in, and Tang Yiqing’s heart immediately leaped into his throat.
The footsteps drew closer step by step. He stared at the bedroom door; the door opened, and a tall figure stood at the entrance.
Tang Yiqing was so awkward that his limbs felt stiff. He hadn’t yet figured out how to face Shen Shuowen. “Big Brother…”
Shen Shuowen gave a word of acknowledgment. Looking at Tang Yiqing’s clear eyes, he knew the heat had passed.
“How are you feeling?” Shen Shuowen asked.
Tang Yiqing said immediately, “I’m all better. No problems at all.”
“Then get more rest.”
With that, the two ran out of things to say. A cold atmosphere spread until Tang Yiqing, unable to bear it, spoke first. He twisted his hands together, feeling extremely uneasy. “Big Brother, thank you for taking care of me during this time. I’ve caused you trouble…”
Shen Shuowen showed no reaction, saying calmly, “It’s nothing. It’s what I should do. To avoid misunderstanding, I won’t tell anyone about what happened these past few days. It was an emergency, not something controllable by personal will. Don’t put too much mental pressure on yourself.”
Hearing him say this, Tang Yiqing felt his nose sting for some reason. He could feel Shen Shuowen’s thoughtfulness and consideration. He appreciated that the man was thinking of him; even if Tang Yiqing planned to remain rational and not be hurt by Shen Mingzheng, he still felt moved by the kindness shown to him.
“Thank you,” Tang Yiqing said, relaxing his posture.
“When do you want to go home?” Shen Shuowen asked.
Tang Yiqing paused, then made a decision. “Is today okay? I haven’t been back for several days. I don’t know if Shanyu and Mingzheng will…”
His voice grew smaller and smaller until he clearly couldn’t go on. No matter what he said, the answer was “they won’t.” Of course, he didn’t mean it sincerely, but maintaining his persona was carved into his bones—it had become a conditioned reflex.
However, for some reason, it wasn’t just the “they won’t” answer that stopped him; he felt a complex mood. He couldn’t identify the slight negative emotions within him, but he instinctively looked toward Shen Shuowen.
The other man’s thin lips were tightly pressed, his angular face cold. Meeting those dark, deep eyes made Tang Yiqing’s heart tremble, and he immediately averted his gaze.
“Fine. Pack your things,” Shen Shuowen said.
As the man left, Tang Yiqing realized belatedly that the scent of red wine had faded.
In the car to the airport, Tang Yiqing was still somewhat dazed. So much had happened over the past few days that it felt like a dream.
His gaze fell on the rearview mirror. From the mirror, he could see Shen Shuowen sitting in the passenger seat. He was resting with his eyes closed, showing a small portion of his profile.
The car was very quiet. Fearing Yiqing would be uncomfortable and wanting to avoid suspicion, Shen Shuowen sat in the front. There had been no communication since getting into the car; everything had returned to the starting point.
Just then, he saw Shen Shuowen turn his body slightly, unscrew a bottle of water, and take a sip. The water made his lips appear a bit more moist.
Tang Yiqing’s gaze swept over those lips, and suddenly his face burned. Those lips flashed through his mind… Did… did he kiss them?
Tang Yiqing didn’t dare look anymore. After steadying himself for a while, he took out his phone. He had dropped out halfway through the competition three days ago and didn’t know how it was progressing now.
He opened the short video platform. Upon entering, the first thing he saw was He Chenguang. He was at a venue, and the large screen behind him displayed the name of the competition Tang Yiqing had participated in. He was presenting awards to the winning influencers as a representative.
Tang Yiqing was stunned. He hadn’t expected He Chenguang to be an award presenter. If he hadn’t withdrawn and had won a prize, the scene of He Chenguang giving him an award on stage would have been unimaginably awkward.
Perhaps he would have been mocked by Shen Mingzheng as well. Just as he thought this, the live camera panned—sitting in the audience was Shen Mingzheng! Although it was only a profile, he was certain it was Shen Mingzheng, beyond a shadow of a doubt. He had actually gone to the scene and was sitting in the very first row of the viewing section.
Actually, it wasn’t that surprising. Shen Mingzheng had specifically opened an influencer company for He Chenguang to promote him exclusively. While appearing here wasn’t strange, it had reached a point of being quite blatant.
At that moment, the host on stage said, “I heard President Shen has also arrived. You came specifically for Chenguang, right?”
He Chenguang showed a shy smile. The host continued, “The babies in our livestream room are asking… is the man who appears in Chenguang’s videos you?”
The camera turned to Shen Mingzheng. It was still a shot from behind and to the side, showing his ear and a bit of his profile. At first, Shen Mingzheng didn’t move, and the atmosphere grew slightly cold. He Chenguang’s eyes began to redden. Only then did Shen Mingzheng nod.
The host immediately gasped, “Babies in front of the screen, it’s confirmed this time! The CP you’re shipping is real!”
The comments were flying so fast they were a blur, but most were well-wishes. They were wishing his husband and someone else a long and happy life together.
“Who is this President Shen? He seems so powerful!”
“Supposedly he’s Baby Shen’s boss.”
“Omg so hot, the husband promoting the wife.”
“Since they’re a real couple, why be so secretive every time they film?”
“They want to keep a low profile, don’t you understand?”
“…”
Tang Yiqing watched the screen expressionlessly. In the past, seeing this pair wouldn’t have caused a ripple in his heart, but now a flash of disgust crossed his mind.
However, given how the two of them were becoming increasingly undisguised, the plot point for his divorce should be coming soon.
Tang Yiqing turned off his phone. When he looked up again, his eyes were red. He was about to look out the window when he met a pair of deep eyes in the rearview mirror.
Shen Shuowen turned his head to look at him, his Adam’s apple bobbing for a second. “Do you want to go somewhere to relax? We can reschedule the flight.”
Tang Yiqing’s body froze for a moment. He lowered his eyes, looking at his hands clenched together on his lap. “…No, let’s just go back.”
Shen Shuowen paused for a moment and said, “Fine.” The car stopped just then. He said, “Get out.”
Tang Yiqing didn’t quite understand if he meant for Yiqing to relax on his own or with Shen Shuowen. He didn’t have a definitive answer, and he didn’t dare to find out, let alone agree.
