Chapter 12: Housewife
The restroom was filled with the pungent scent of disinfectant. Everywhere was a stark, deathly white; the walls glinted with a cold light, and the air conditioning made the space chillingly cool.
Squatting against the wall, Tang Yiqing curled himself into a ball. He was exceptionally sensitive right now; he could clearly feel every point of friction between the fabric of his clothes and his skin. His body was simultaneously burning and freezing, and he couldn’t stop shaking.
The space inside this small stall was too cramped and far from safe. He could hear the sounds of people pacing back and forth outside, their footsteps growing more hurried. Suddenly, he heard someone press down on the door handle.
Tang Yiqing stiffened in alarm. The movement outside ceased, then—BANG—a massive thud slammed against the door panel, making the entire frame shudder. Tang Yiqing nearly shrieked, clamping his hands tightly over his mouth.
A man’s voice rang out from outside, “Baby, I know you’re in there. Your pheromones are smelling so slutty it’s ridiculous. Come on out.”
More Alphas seemed to be gathering at the door. “This door won’t hold up against a good shove, will it?”
“Are you secretly leaking inside? Don’t hide it, I’ll come in and help you take care of it.”
“…”
The foul language grew more frequent, and the pheromones outside began to clash violently as they all sought to claim the Omega inside. Lured by the scent, they were gradually losing their sanity.
Tang Yiqing buried his head between his legs, tears splashing onto the floor one by one as his shoulders shook with quiet sobs. The wooden door groaned under the pounding; it looked like it wouldn’t hold much longer.
By now, Tang Yiqing had almost entirely lost his reason. He stared at the door. The pheromones outside were stimulating his body to grow hotter and hotter; opening that door would end this agony…
As if under a spell, he raised his hand and tremulously gripped the handle. If he opened this door, he would be facing a scene from hell…
His hand faltered, arm frozen in mid-air. Just then, a sudden commotion broke out outside. Immediately after, a familiar scent of pheromones seeped through the cracks of the door. The aggression and sheer pressure of those pheromones were so intense that they forced a painful groan from him. Gradually, the chaotic, noisy sounds drifted away.
The pheromones crowding into the stall softened, carrying a gentle, soothing quality.
“Yiqing, it’s me. Open the door.”
It was Shen Shuowen’s voice, and the pheromones were his too. With a click, the door was opened from the inside. He looked up at the tall man standing before him. In this instant, it felt as though he had found salvation. The person before him inspired absolute trust, and it was at this moment that his tensed body completely collapsed.
Shen Shuowen caught him, allowing him to lean against his chest for support. With the pheromones thick inside the stall, Shen Shuowen pulled a simple, portable suppressant suited for Yiqing from his suit pocket with one hand. He quickly tore open the packaging and injected it directly into his own jugular vein; this way, the suppressant would act faster.
Tang Yiqing placed his hands on Shen Shuowen’s chest. He truly had no strength left; he couldn’t even support himself. He had to press himself tightly against the other man to ensure he didn’t slide down. His eyes were glazed and his vision blurred. He only heard the sound of the packaging being torn, followed by something being tossed into the trash.
Shen Shuowen tightened his arm around Yiqing’s waist to keep him from slipping. Then, Yiqing heard the sound of a phone call being made. The man’s breath brushed against the top of his head as he spoke, making his stray hairs flutter.
He liked Shen Shuowen’s pheromones. Right now, he was filled with a desperate reliance on them. It felt as though as long as he leaned in this embrace, everything would be handled; he wouldn’t face danger, and no one would see his embarrassing state.
“I’m in the restroom on the east side of the first floor. Yes, bring a blanket. Quickly!”
Shen Shuowen was usually steady and calm, but his voice now carried a slight tremor. Hanging up the phone, he felt the person in his arms wrap both hands around his waist, pressing his face into Shuowen’s neck and sniffing repeatedly.
Like a cat sniffing its food before eating, Yiqing’s fluffy hair tickled Shuowen’s chin. He was squirming in his arms like a small animal; it was lethally clingy.
A curve couldn’t help but form at the corner of Shen Shuowen’s mouth as he tightened his hold.
After parking the car, Xiao Wang rushed toward the first-floor restroom, looking travel-worn. Their original location was several blocks away from this mall, and it was currently peak hour; they had been blocked two streets away.
He had never seen his boss this anxious before. Shuowen had stepped directly out of the car into the moving traffic and started running the moment his feet hit the ground. It had been a terrifying sight; clearly, it was a matter of life and death.
When he stood at the restroom door, a crack opened, and a hand reached out to pull the blanket inside. The interior was shielded so tightly it was as if they were terrified of anyone seeing.
When the door opened again, a person wrapped so securely in a blanket that not even a sliver of skin showed was carried out by Shen Shuowen. Xiao Wang was stunned by the sight. Judging by the frame, it had to be an Omega.
Soon, they reached the mall parking lot. Shen Shuowen carefully placed the person inside, Xiao Wang took the driver’s seat, and the car started.
Xiao Wang glanced at the rearview mirror from time to time. He was truly curious about who this person was, to be treated so delicately by his boss.
The person in his boss’s arms was restless, constantly squirming against Shen Shuowen’s lap. He even struggled a hand out from the blanket to claw at the clothes over Shen Shuowen’s abdomen, pressing his face against it to sniff.
Xiao Wang was shocked and grew even more curious. Just who was this, to be so indulged by the boss? And just then, that restless head popped out, pressing against the boss as if he couldn’t get enough.
The car nearly veered off the road. Fortunately, Xiao Wang’s driving skills were superb, and there was no major disturbance. But who did he see…
Wasn’t that the cooking vlogger he liked? But that person had a husband and a child!
His boss looked like a soulless machine, a total paragon of the “abstinent” type. He never expected that once Shuowen had a romance, it would be this explosive. Was he acting as a secret lover behind the husband’s back?
Xiao Wang didn’t dare think further, fearing that a single wrong look or expression would get him fired. After all, he had stumbled upon his boss’s biggest romantic scandal; to keep his job, he had to act as if he had seen nothing!
Shen Shuowen carried Tang Yiqing into a hotel. He looked down at the person in his arms, who was now completely incoherent, touching and sniffing him without any sense of direction, his cheeks flushed with distress.
Upon entering the room, Shen Shuowen laid him on the bed. Tang Yiqing instinctively reached out for him, his glazed eyes full of longing.
At that moment, there was a knock at the door. He had sent the driver to buy supplies, so it should be him. Just as he was about to open the door, Tang Yiqing clung to him and wouldn’t let go. Having no choice, Shen Shuowen pulled him back into his arms, opened the door just a crack to take the bag, and let the driver go.
The bag contained suppressants and some sedative medications for assistance. He placed Yiqing back on the bed, but the moment he touched the mattress, Tang Yiqing wrapped his arms tightly around Shuowen’s neck, staring at him with hazy eyes as if afraid he would be abandoned.
In this state, Yiqing had developed an extreme reliance on his pheromones. In the restroom, Shuowen had performed a meticulous soothing of Tang Yiqing, which was why the Omega now felt such a powerful craving for his scent.
After a moment of hesitation, Shen Shuowen eventually tossed the bag aside. He had examined Tang Yiqing before; suppressants would have negligible effect on him now. Moreover, his current state was so intense that an injection might actually cause him physical harm.
The safest method was still pheromone soothing.
Shen Shuowen released more pheromones to comfort him. Tang Yiqing’s body on the bed immediately went limp, though he was still in pain, muffled groans escaping his lips. Shuowen watched him silently, a layer of fine sweat appearing on his own nape.
He couldn’t help it—he wasn’t his husband; he couldn’t do what was best for him. The veins on Shen Shuowen’s temples throbbed, and a fierce jealousy rose in his heart.
He took out the last suppressant from his own pocket and injected it into his neck. Waves of heat and cold washed over him, and his face began to turn pale.
Soothed by the pheromones, Tang Yiqing quieted down, but his craving for the person releasing them became even more intense. His body twisted on the bed, his reddened, unfocused eyes looking toward him occasionally.
Shen Shuowen’s face was almost cold, but the string of his sanity was already at its breaking point. He sat on the edge of the bed, pulling the sweat-drenched Tang Yiqing onto his lap, his hand reaching for the back of Yiqing’s neck, fingertips kneading the gland.
Tang Yiqing’s entire body jolted, a sound escaping him that he couldn’t suppress. The red wine-scented pheromones became highly aggressive, appearing to invade relentlessly. He suddenly arched his back, his whole body tensing like a bow, then his eyes rolled back and he fainted.
Shen Shuowen stared blankly at the person on the bed until a knock sounded at the door. He immediately covered Tang Yiqing with the quilt, then stood up to open the door, turning on the ventilation system as he passed.
When the door opened, a tall, slender man walked in. “Whoa, the smell in here is choking.”
“What did you do to them, Young Master Shen? Usually, you look so upright, but you’re quite heavy-handed when you actually strike.”
Shen Shuowen didn’t take the bait. “Go check on him. Did you bring my suppressants?”
Huo Wei took two vials of the strongest suppressants from his bag. Shen Shuowen went to grab them, but Huo Wei pulled them back, his expression serious. “If you keep going like this, it’s only a matter of time before you lose control again. It’ll affect your glands in the future. Do you want to turn into a beast that only knows how to go mad? Besides, don’t you already have a partner…”
Shen Shuowen interrupted him. “He is my younger brother’s wife.”
Huo Wei’s words died in his throat. He stood there with his mouth open, looking as if something were stuck in his gullet. It was a long time before he could speak.
Shen Shuowen pulled the two suppressants away. Huo Wei was a personal doctor he trusted deeply; he didn’t need to worry about him spreading rumors, nor did he need to explain much. He sat by the bed, practiced in opening the packaging, and expressionlessly let the needle pierce the vein in his arm.
“Did you look at the report I sent you?” Shen Shuowen asked.
Huo Wei finally snapped back. “Ah… yes, I saw it. His situation is very dangerous.”
Huo Wei collected his thoughts and took a test kit from his bag. Just as he was about to step forward, Shen Shuowen took the kit from him. This made him pause, seemingly still reeling from the impact of Shen Shuowen’s “He is my younger brother’s wife.”
When the test value appeared, Huo Wei frowned at the number. “He can’t take suppressants anymore. In his condition, they will only cause harm with no effect. The best treatment right now is to properly regulate himself with his partner; other methods won’t do much.”
“What about ‘faking’ a heat?” Shen Shuowen asked.
At this, Huo Wei understood what he was talking about. However, the state didn’t encourage this method; if it were promoted, things would surely spiral out of control. It was considered a private, last-resort method used by Alphas and Omegas whose partners were away for long periods.
“For him right now… the effect might not be ideal,” Huo Wei said. “I suggest that once this current heat cycle passes, he should come to my clinic for a comprehensive exam.”
Shen Shuowen gave a word of acknowledgement and saw his guest out. Huo Wei was used to his crisp, decisive way of doing things. He left behind some medications that could help assist in getting through the heat.
As he reached the door, Huo Wei suddenly turned back, looking at Shen Shuowen with hesitation. “You… you can’t keep going on like this. After all, this can’t see the light of day.”
“It’s not what you think. He knows nothing,” Shen Shuowen said expressionlessly.
Huo Wei let out a heavy sigh.
Tang Yiqing felt as though he had been dreaming. In his dream, he was in a scalding sea, rising and falling with the waves. Everything else was a blur; he felt like he had been woken up by the heat.
He opened his eyes to find himself in a hotel guest room. Turning his head, he saw Shen Shuowen sitting by the bed.
He currently felt burning hot, yet his mind was clear. He tried to sit up but felt weak all over. Images flashed through his mind—Shen Shuowen had rescued him.
“Big Brother…” Tang Yiqing’s voice was somewhat raspy. For a moment, he didn’t know how to face him, wanting to pull the entire quilt over his head.
“Are you feeling any better?” Shen Shuowen asked.
Tang Yiqing nodded. He wanted to get closer to Shen Shuowen, to smell the red wine scent on him; his biological instinct was driving him to do so. He could only forcibly suppress the urge. It was so agonizing…
Just then, Shen Shuowen’s phone rang. He silenced it, but it immediately rang again. Tang Yiqing looked at him. “If Big Brother has things to do, please go ahead. I’m already fine.”
Shen Shuowen frowned slightly. The phone rang again. He answered, and on the other end, Huo Wei urged him to come over immediately to have some of his pheromones extracted. His condition today was abnormal, and he had taken powerful suppressants; it was very dangerous. If not controlled, he could easily lose his mind.
“Fine, I know,” Shen Shuowen said.
“I can’t come over now,” Shen Shuowen said. “Tomorrow.”
A roar came from the other end of the line: “No! Right now! Do you know you’re in danger? Come even if it’s for the sake of the Omega beside you—if you lose control, he’ll be in danger too!”
Shen Shuowen paused. Tang Yiqing spoke up, “Big Brother, go. Your health matters too. I’ve already recovered, don’t worry about me.”
Shen Shuowen hung up and stood up. “Then rest well. I’ll send someone to look after you. Call me immediately if anything happens.”
Tang Yiqing nodded obediently, and Shen Shuowen started to walk out. Out of both rationality and concern for his and Tang Yiqing’s safety, going to Huo Wei for treatment was the best choice.
He had just taken a step when he heard Tang Yiqing’s voice behind him, as tiny as a mosquito. Shen Shuowen turned back. “What is it?”
The quilt covered half of Tang Yiqing’s face, yet his reddened cheeks from embarrassment were still visible. “Big Brother… can you leave your jacket behind?”
Shen Shuowen was taken aback. Omegas in heat truly did rely heavily on an Alpha’s pheromones. He took off his suit jacket and handed it to him. “It was indeed my oversight.”
Tang Yiqing felt even more ashamed. The heat made it impossible for him to think much; everything followed bodily instinct. After Shen Shuowen left, he propped himself up slightly against the headboard, buried his face in the jacket, and sniffed the scent on it forcefully, his toes curling involuntarily.
