Chapter 11: Housewife
Shen Shuowen stayed behind to tidy up the equipment, and Tang Yiqing was the first to leave. The moment he stepped out of the instrument room door, he felt a massive surge of relief.
Throughout the entire examination, his clothes had been nearly soaked with sweat; only now did he completely relax.
He glanced at the glass jar in his hand. The liquid inside flowed slowly along the angle of the tilt. Holding it felt like holding a hot potato, making his palm feel uncomfortably warm. Ultimately, he stuffed the small bottle into his trouser pocket; he simply couldn’t bring himself to carry it down in the open.
He descended from the fourth floor to the third and continued downward. But before he could go much further, he heard someone call his name.
“Tang Yiqing.”
That familiar voice made Tang Yiqing’s body stiffen instantly. He quickened his pace, but the man still caught up to him. He felt a wave of annoyance—there were elevators available, so why did these pampered young masters insist on taking the stairs?
Shen Zeqi stepped in front of him, and the two stopped on the landing. He leaned his elbow lazily on the handrail. “Why do you run the moment you see me?”
Tang Yiqing felt a bit intimidated seeing him. “I didn’t notice you just now.”
He didn’t know if Shen Zeqi still remembered what happened by the pool. At that time, Zeqi had drunk too much and might have mistaken him for someone else. Meeting like this now felt incredibly awkward.
Shen Zeqi leaned his face closer, his eyes narrowing with a wicked smile. “What? Avoiding me?”
Tang Yiqing’s face reddened. He stammered, “Why would I be avoiding you?”
As he spoke, he tried to continue down the stairs. Shen Zeqi’s pace seemed leisurely, yet he remained on the same step as Tang Yiqing. “Because I held you that night. And I kissed you.”
Tang Yiqing froze, his face full of shock. He looked at the man beside him, who appeared perfectly composed, a hint of a smile even playing at the corners of his mouth. He didn’t look at all like someone who had done something as absurd as embracing his own brother’s wife.
Shen Zeqi’s gaze didn’t waver, staring until Tang Yiqing’s face turned scarlet. Tang Yiqing’s voice trembled slightly. “You… you remember?”
Shen Zeqi countered, “Did you think I’d forgotten?”
“Of course not,” Shen Zeqi said, his body leaning forward again almost uncontrollably.
Tang Yiqing’s fingertips went numb. What did he mean by that?
Suddenly, Shen Zeqi’s body stiffened, and a flash of gloominess crossed his eyes. “Why is there the scent of another Alpha on you?”
Tang Yiqing’s heart jolted—he’d smelled it! Even though he and Shen Shuowen had done nothing, he felt a strange sense of guilt, perhaps because the nature of the examination he had just undergone was so shameful.
Shen Zeqi leaned even closer, looking directly into Tang Yiqing’s eyes. “It’s my big brother’s scent. What were you doing with him?”
His eyes flickered upward. “You came down from the fourth floor. What were the two of you doing up there?”
Tang Yiqing dodged him, trying to flee. He didn’t understand why Shen Zeqi was being so aggressive right now. He smelled that cloying honey-peach pheromone again, indicating that Shen Zeqi’s emotions were unstable; his pheromones were leaking out uncontrollably.
“I… I went up for an exam and happened to run into Big Brother. He helped me with the equipment,” Tang Yiqing said tremulously, fearing at any moment that Shen Zeqi would lose control.
Shen Zeqi leaned in even further until he was only centimeters away from his skin. The snowy-white skin emitted the fragrance of daisies, carrying the warmth of his body—it smelled meltingly good. “Hmm… indeed, nothing happened.”
Tang Yiqing’s body was rigid. He could feel Shen Zeqi’s warm breath brushing against his skin. He didn’t understand why Shen Zeqi was sniffing him like a dog. Surely he didn’t think he was having an affair with the eldest brother and was trying to catch him in the act for his younger brother? Zeqi wasn’t that close with Shen Mingzheng, nor was he the type to meddle in others’ business…
Finally, Tang Yiqing couldn’t take it anymore. He turned to go downstairs, but as he moved, Shen Zeqi grabbed his arm. In the jostle, Shen Zeqi’s calloused, burning palm moved up from his wrist to grip his soft upper arm.
“What are you carrying? Why is Big Brother’s pheromone scent so strong?” Shen Zeqi asked.
Tang Yiqing instinctively clutched his pocket, a flash of anger crossing his face. He shook off Shen Zeqi’s hand and headed downstairs. “What does it have to do with you?”
“Why are you running? Am I that scary?” Shen Zeqi’s voice was low and dissatisfied.
“I’m not a criminal, why are you interrogating me?” Tang Yiqing said.
Shen Zeqi caught up in a few strides. Seeing Yiqing’s face flushed with anger, the corners of his mouth curled into an involuntary arc. “I’m just curious. Was it medicine Big Brother gave you?”
Tang Yiqing glanced at him. Seeing the interest on his face, he felt a tightness in his chest and grew even angrier. What was this? Was he teasing a cat or a dog? He was like that just a moment ago, and now he finds it amusing?
Though he was unhappy, his nature made it so he wasn’t truly furious. He gave a small “Mm” of affirmation. “I haven’t been feeling well lately.”
Shen Zeqi said, “Is it because of what happened last time?”
Tang Yiqing pursed his lips, not wanting to admit it. Of course it was; he had gone into heat because of Zeqi’s pheromones.
Watching him with his lips pursed and a face full of resentment, Shen Zeqi felt a stir in his heart. He suddenly reached out and grabbed his wrist. Only when Tang Yiqing looked at him did Zeqi realize what he had done; a flash of self-annoyance crossed his face before he regained his composure.
“Why do you keep grabbing me?” Tang Yiqing asked.
The wrist in his hand was delicate and soft. Shen Zeqi looked at him and took a step closer, his deep eyes full of scrutiny. In truth, he used to hate Tang Yiqing—he hated their “family of three,” hated Tang Yiqing and his kid, Shen Shanyu.
What he loathed most was watching their family performance at the breakfast table every morning, and he hated Tang Yiqing’s pathetic, spineless look after being bullied. Even a little brat could step all over him; he was foolish and weak beyond measure.
Shen Zeqi pressed closer again, his face tense and his jaw clenched, looking as if he wanted to swallow the person before him whole. “If my pheromones influenced you, it means you need them.”
Tang Yiqing couldn’t help but lean his head back, feeling a bit afraid of the current Shen Zeqi. “What do you mean?”
Shen Zeqi continued, “I can provide you with my pheromones.”
Tang Yiqing froze. He finally understood. By the pool, the pheromones Shen Zeqi released hadn’t been much, yet he had been lured into heat. Shen Zeqi thought he liked his pheromones, when the reality was simply that his own pheromones were in disorder.
Was Shen Zeqi trying to help him? It was a kind gesture, but why did he look like he was about to descend into hell?
“No need… my pheromones have stabilized now,” Tang Yiqing lied.
Shen Zeqi didn’t let him go. He moved even closer, as if he were about to kiss him. “I was serious about what I told you last time. Have you thought it over?”
“What thing…” Tang Yiqing blurted out, then realized what he was referring to. He looked at him in shock, still not quite believing it. “What are you saying?”
“I said you should divorce Shen Mingzheng and be with me,” Shen Zeqi said, his voice dropping even lower. “I would do better than him. I am also an S-rank Alpha, and I own a share of the Shen family fortune. I would satisfy your every need.”
Shen Zeqi’s breathing grew heavy as he reached out to wrap an arm around his waist. Tang Yiqing was completely stunned; he never imagined Shen Zeqi would actually have such a shocking, scandalous thought.
Tang Yiqing was shocked into silence until he felt a firm arm winding around his waist. He looked up and down the stairs in a panic. Fortunately, no one was passing by. If they were discovered… he didn’t dare think about it.
Tang Yiqing immediately pushed the man away. “You’re a madman.”
He hurried down the stairs, his footsteps making a rapid clatter as if a tiger were chasing him. He heard Shen Zeqi’s deep voice echoing behind him: “I won’t give up.”
Tang Yiqing’s pheromone situation finally stabilized, but he couldn’t bear to stay at home. The thought of facing Shen Zeqi gave him a headache. He spent several consecutive days upstairs, not daring to go down except for necessities, for fear of running into him.
So, when the platform held a livestream event and he was invited, he accepted without the slightest hesitation.
The event was held in C City, a very fashionable city filled with stylish young people, influencers, and models everywhere. This was his first time traveling alone since his marriage; he was both nervous and excited.
The venue was on the first floor of a shopping mall. The invited influencers stood in their designated spots behind barriers. This was a livestreaming competition where rankings were decided by popularity, interaction, and sales volume in the rooms.
Tang Yiqing was still livestreaming his cooking, while also selling some seasonings. He glanced around; the place was crowded, noisy, and filled with various smells. He raised a hand to press his nape. He had felt fine a moment ago, but now his gland felt swollen. Was it because the atmosphere here was too chaotic?
With the host’s shout of “Start!”, the various streamers opened their broadcasts. The platform had promoted the event heavily. Participating streamers would be pushed to the front page, and rankings were updated in real-time. Regardless of the rank achieved, it would attract a lot of traffic. As long as nothing went wrong, it was all benefit and no harm.
Tang Yiqing threw himself wholeheartedly into the livestream. The number of viewers in his room surpassed ten thousand, making him feel excited for the first time. However, when he finished the dish and came back to his senses, he finally felt something was clearly wrong. His gland was swollen and hot, and his body was becoming increasingly feverish.
The host walked over to him, wanting to conduct a short interview, but instinctively covered his nose. Seeing Tang Yiqing’s pale complexion, he asked with concern, “Are you alright? Do you feel unwell?”
Looking at the host’s reaction—this was a male Beta host—if even he could smell something wrong, then the Alphas and Omegas who were more sensitive to pheromones would naturally smell it too.
He looked around and saw several Alphas livestreaming nearby looking over at him. Even the audience members outside the barriers had smelled his pheromones. The Alphas standing closest had their gazes fixed on him, their eyes turning a crimson red.
Tang Yiqing panicked. “Sorry, I need to go to the restroom.”
Without waiting for the host to say anything, he walked straight past him toward the restrooms. His figure swayed, and his consciousness grew increasingly blurred. Chaotic footsteps followed behind him. He clenched his hands, letting his nails sink into his palms to force himself to stay awake.
Finally, he reached the restroom. The entrance was blocked by a sign indicating it was under maintenance. He immediately ducked inside, locked himself in a stall, and collapsed, squatting down as his strength failed him.
Shen Shuowen had come to C City to discuss an acquisition, which had been very successful. He took the elevator down to the office building’s underground parking lot. His driver was currently leaning against the car door, grinning foolishly at his phone. He didn’t even notice Shen Shuowen walking over until he was right in front of him. “President Shen, you’re down.”
He moved to turn off his phone, but Shen Shuowen’s gaze fell on the screen. “Watching a livestream?”
The driver, Xiao Liu, scratched his head sheepishly. “Mm.”
He was one of Shen Shuowen’s six drivers and usually accompanied him on trips. Shen Shuowen never made small talk with him, being as cold as a robot. This was the first time he had spoken to him about something outside of work.
“You like him?” Shen Shuowen asked.
On the screen, Tang Yiqing’s expression was serious, his face flushed with a red glow. Sweat had dampened his hair, and there was a gentleness in his every move.
Xiao Liu’s face immediately turned bright red. He stammered, “It doesn’t matter if I like him or not, the person’s child is already several years old.”
Then, Xiao Liu went silent. He saw Shen Shuowen’s brow furrow, his expression turning cold and stern as he stared intently at the phone screen.
“Where is this?” Shen Shuowen asked.
He was very familiar with Tang Yiqing’s current state. He had carried him back that time in the villa’s backyard. Now, his state looked even more severe than that time.
Xiao Liu dazed for a moment before saying, “This is at Jinyao Mall.”
Shen Shuowen turned and got into the car. “Go there. Quickly.”
Xiao Liu was stunned. He couldn’t have taken a fancy to someone else’s wife, could he?
