After A Max-Level Celestial Master Transmigrated Into The Body Of A Sickly Beauty's Substitute - Chapter 10
The Lan family publicly announced the cancellation of their engagement with the Gu family at the banquet. Once this news spread, opinions varied wildly, with most of the conversation centering on Lan Ting. Some claimed that Lan Ting had been deeply infatuated with Gu Guixi and that their falling out was merely a momentary spat, predicting they would reconcile later. Others argued that after what Gu Guixi had done to him, reconciliation was impossible. Because the original owner had once chased after Gu Guixi so relentlessly, the people of Jinchuan were split down the middle regarding the situation.
However, what shocked everyone was that the dynamic between Lan Ting and Gu Guixi seemed to have completely reversed. The Gu family was powerful, and Gu Guixi was a well-known nobleman in the circle. In the past, those who pursued him, including Lan Ting, were treated with arrogant indifference; rumors even suggested that Gu Guixi had been forced into the engagement. Regardless of who was at fault for the breakup, everyone assumed he would be the happiest person, but the reality was the exact opposite.
The trouble began the day after the banquet when people started showering Gu Guixi with attention. The cancellation of the engagement meant he was single again, and those who had been flirting with him in the shadows could now do so openly. Ever since his discharge, Gu Guixi had been lingering at the Lan family gate every day, refusing to leave even after being repeatedly turned away.
Those who had been waiting for an opening saw him arrive and rushed forward. Li Huo was a refined man who had long secretly admired Gu Guixi; after all, the man was presentable and had a good reputation. With the engagement gone and the Li family currently facing business difficulties while the Gu family remained wealthy, Li Huo decided to make a move. As Gu Guixi stepped out of his car, the exquisitely dressed man approached, his perfume cloying.
“Mr. Gu,” Li Huo said, thinking he sounded poised.
Gu Guixi nodded with a polite smile. “Mr. Li.”
Li Huo reached up to touch his earlobe, which featured a red earring, a style he had seen Lan Ting wear at the banquet and decided to imitate. “The Lan family has closed their doors to you, and your engagement is cancelled. Mr. Gu, since you are such an eligible bachelor, why not look for a suitable partner closer to home?”
He was not being subtle; he stated his intentions plainly. But Gu Guixi’s gentle expression shifted. Ignoring Li Huo, he took a gift box from the passenger seat and walked toward the Lan family gate, muttering coldly as he passed, “Mr. Li, you should give up. In this life, I, Gu Guixi, only like Lan Ting.”
The fact that Gu Guixi was repeatedly snubbed outside Lan Ting’s home became the talk of Jinchuan. Hearing this, Lan Lin was so furious he nearly smashed a precious ornament on the table.
“Only he and Li Huo were there that day. Li Huo cares too much about his reputation to leak this, so how did it spread everywhere?” Lan Lin’s face was dark, his knuckles turning white as he clenched his fists. “He is quite calculating.”
Was Gu Guixi not trying to use the public’s positive impression of him to engage in moral kidnapping? After all, there was no direct evidence that Gu Guixi was responsible for Lan Ting’s injuries.
“Brother, do not be angry,” Lan Ting finally said. He let out a strange, hollow laugh, sipped his hot tea, and added, “He will not be able to jump around for much longer.”
When the three days were up, Lan Ting left the Lan house in the middle of the night without waking anyone. The Gu family had strict security, with cameras installed every ten meters. Lan Ting watched from a distance without entering; instead, he pulled out a single strand of white hair. As he let go, the wind caught the hair and carried it away. A few minutes later, the woman in red arrived.
Lan Ting could not see after dark, but he could judge by her aura. “You have recovered well.”
The ghost bowed. “Thank you for your help, Mr. Lan.”
Since Lan Ting had sent her back, her condition had been steadily improving, and it was obvious whose work that was. Today, seeing Lan Ting, she was clearly excited. “Are you here to help me take revenge?”
Lan Ting glanced at her. “I will not intervene.”
The ghost was stunned. “Then this is?”
“I am giving you a chance.” He continued, “Your name and birth date.”
Though confused, she replied, “October 30, 1998, Xu Xiaoyu.”
Lan Ting nodded slightly. He raised his hand, and spiritual light shimmered at his fingertips. He traced characters in the air as if they were solid; golden light formed symbols that hung suspended in the void. As he stopped, Lan Ting tore through the air. The invisible paper was ripped away, and with a sudden burst of flame, it burned into ashes. As the smoke rose, Lan Ting whispered, “Ghost gate open, summon the Unchanging!”
The second he finished speaking, a massive, thick, and dark gate appeared out of thin air, exuding an ancient and solemn aura. The black chains on the gate rattled, the humming sound forcing the ghost to cover her ears in pain. A moment later, the chains shattered, and the doors burst open.
A black boot stepped out. The figure wore black robes, had red hair, and was wrapped in chains. His face was deathly pale, and a horrific scar stretched across his neck. His tall hat was inscribed with four characters: Peace Under Heaven. Even if she had been ignorant of such things, the ghost knew who this was. Her lips trembled, and she nearly collapsed to her knees. “Black Black Impermanence!”
The Black Impermanence looked young; he cast a heavy glance at her with his pitch-black eyes before looking away. His gaze landed on the white-haired youth. “White hair? That is pretty cool.”
Lan Ting said nothing. This Impermanence was a bit strange.
Lan Ting did not want to dance around the issue. He pointed his finger, but the other side dodged.
“Pointing at people with your finger is rude,” Black Impermanence remarked.
Lan Ting gritted his teeth, his eyes darkening.
The figure put his hands on his hips and yawned. “Speak, what is it?”
Lan Ting did not waste time. He gestured, and the ashes from earlier appeared before the Black Impermanence. The ghost official glanced at them. “Oh, looking for a revenge permit?” He casually summoned a thin booklet to browse through. “Xu Xiaoyu. Let me check.”
The ghost was still bewildered. She suppressed her confusion and asked cautiously, “What is a revenge permit?”
Lan Ting’s tone was calm. “Those who suffer grave injustices or inhuman torture in life can appeal to the underworld after death to apply for a revenge permit. Killing is against the natural order, but the underworld shows mercy and issues these permits based on the circumstances, allowing for legal revenge.”
The ghost was shocked. “That is amazing.”
While they spoke, the Black Impermanence had already found Xu Xiaoyu’s record. Even a ghost official accustomed to life and death could not help but click his tongue after reading it. “That is miserable. Buried alive.”
