After a Flash Marriage with a Professor - Chapter 50
Chapter 50: Confession
Seeing the genuine distress and trust in Ming Shu’s eyes, Shen Junlan’s conscience was deeply troubled.
When she and Ming Shu had just reunited, she had many unspeakable thoughts about Ming Shu, and her conscience was also troubled then. Her behavior was still under control, but now, this bit of condemnation could not let her overcome her inner desires and selfish cravings.
She was a mortal, not the ascetic professor in the eyes of her students, including Ming Shu.
“Thank you, Wife.” Shen Junlan successfully got into the covers.
“Stop!” Ming Shu raised one hand to prevent her from getting any closer.
“What is it?” Shen Junlan paused, a bit confused, and then watched as Ming Shu used her hand to draw an invisible dividing line between them.
“Professor Shen, I let you in, but you can’t cross this line tonight.”
“But I want to hug my wife to sleep.”
“No.” Ming Shu firmly stated her position.
“Wife~”
“Calling me ‘Wife’ won’t work either.”
Ming Shu directly put her right hand out from the covers, using her hand as the dividing line.
“Baby~”
“I’m not listening, not listening.” Ming Shu used her other hand to cover her ears.
Shen Junlan saw that her little rabbit wife’s mind was made up and that she wouldn’t fall for her tricks easily, so she decided to back down and extinguish the small flame in her heart.
“Wife, I won’t touch you. Put your hand inside. It will be cold outside.”
“…It’s not cold.” Ming Shu didn’t move, so Shen Junlan also extended a hand. Ming Shu panicked, “Professor Shen, are you going back on your word again?”
Shen Junlan said nothing, grabbed Ming Shu’s hand, and tucked it into the covers, leaving her own hand outside.
With her hand back in the warm covers, Ming Shu realized that Professor Shen had used her own hand to replace Ming Shu’s as the dividing line.
She had misunderstood Professor Shen.
“I’m sorry, Professor Shen.”
No response.
“I’m sorry, Wife.”
Still no response. Ming Shu felt deflated, muffled, and tried to think of a way to comfort Professor Shen. The comforting kiss Professor Shen had given her automatically appeared in her mind, and she felt herself getting warm all over.
But she thought it was worth a try. So, after a brief moment of酝酿, Ming Shu also leaned over and pecked the cheek of the person next to her, a light, silent touch.
After the kiss, she stared at Professor Shen’s profile. Professor Shen’s face remained impassive, only her eyelashes trembled slightly.
It didn’t work?
Ming Shu was troubled; she couldn’t think of any other way.
Shen Junlan secretly glanced at Ming Shu out of the corner of her eye. On the side Ming Shu couldn’t see, the corner of her mouth was already turned up.
Her little rabbit wife was still too inexperienced. A small trick, and she softened again.
She was hoping Ming Shu would kiss her again.
If she kissed her one more time, she would break the ice.
However, Shen Junlan waited for a long time, and Ming Shu made no further moves. She subtly turned her head to look, and saw Ming Shu frowning, deep in thought about something.
Shen Junlan’s mood instantly brightened. Her little rabbit wife was still worried about her.
She smiled, staring at the little rabbit wife who was troubled for her. The more she looked, the more she loved what she saw.
Suddenly, Ming Shu also turned her head. Shen Junlan reined in her smile. Their eyes met, one filled with worry, the other expressionless.
“Professor Shen.” Ming Shu blinked apologetically.
Shen Junlan’s heart couldn’t help but stir. Her heart was saying: My little rabbit wife is sending me a signal!
Her brain was saying: Shen Junlan, get a grip on your love-struck thoughts.
Ming Shu said, “Professor Shen, let me tell you a joke.”
“Okay.” Shen Junlan stared at Ming Shu without blinking, not wanting to miss any of Ming Shu’s expressions when she was thinking only of her.
“It’s not really a joke, Lingyu told me. It’s a pun.”
“Mhm.”
So concise. Professor Shen must be truly angry.
Ming Shu felt uneasy and carefully chose one of the few lame jokes she remembered. “Professor Shen, let me ask you a question. If Ouyang Xiu can’t do it, what should he do?”
Shen Junlan pondered for a moment and then shook her head. She had no clue.
Ming Shu revealed the answer, “He should go look for Wang Zhihuan.”
Shen Junlan’s lips twitched slightly. She had to admit, the joke was very lame, but it touched a soft spot in her, she didn’t know if it was because it was Ming Shu telling the joke to cheer her up.
To Ming Shu, it looked like Professor Shen gave a forced smile.
“It really is lame.”
Ming Shu lowered her head dejectedly, vowing to learn more things that could make people happy in the future. She hoped that Professor Shen would have more happy moments when she was with her, to provide Professor Shen with some positive emotional value.
“Wife, let me ask you a question too.” Shen Junlan’s mind shifted, and she was ready to take back the initiative.
“What question?”
“A test for you. When the English phrase ‘I love you’ first came into our country, how did the people pronounce it?”
This was a question Ming Shu had never thought about. Ming Shu concentrated, muttering the English “I love you” to herself several times. Shen Junlan imprinted every single time in her heart. Although it was a bit roguish, she had indeed heard the confession she wanted to hear from Ming Shu’s mouth.
“Professor Shen, I can’t figure it out. What’s the answer?” Ming Shu asked.
Shen Junlan finally smiled at her good student again, “I don’t know either. I just thought of it.”
“Just thought of it?” Ming Shu was a bit dumbfounded. “Why did you ask that?”
“I love you.”
Ming Shu: “???”
Ming Shu: “!!!”
Shen Junlan smiled, appreciating Ming Shu’s transition from a confused expression to one of shock, and continued, “What other verbs are there in English that express love or liking? Just two will do.”
Ming Shu’s face turned red as she pulled herself out of the shocked state and instantly returned to the good student state of being questioned by a teacher.
“like, fancy?”
Shen Junlan: “I like you.”
“I fancy you.”
“I love you.”
Ming Shu was speechless.
What was Professor Shen doing?
Ming Shu’s mind was in a complete mess. Wasn’t Professor Shen angry just now? Why did she suddenly ask her English questions? And now she was looking at her while completing the sentences, full of tender affection.
It felt so much like a confession.
Ming Shu’s heart felt like a lively little rabbit was bouncing inside it, so happy it was almost crazy.
It felt like a dream, or a hallucination. Ming Shu parted her lips, but she couldn’t say a word, as if she were mute.
Shen Junlan looked at the dazed little rabbit, feeling endless affection, and couldn’t help but say, “Wife, can I hug you to sleep tonight?”
Like being drenched by a heavy downpour, Ming Shu’s brain cooled down at that moment.
“No.”
Ming Shu turned to her side, only showing her back to Shen Junlan. Shen Junlan was a bit stunned.
Did her little rabbit wife not like her confession?
Shen Junlan pondered to herself, somewhat unable to understand. Was her love and affection making Ming Shu feel afraid, burdened, or pressured?
Shen Junlan looked at Ming Shu’s back and suddenly remembered Ming Shu’s fear of the two stacked night classes. She couldn’t help but secretly curse herself in her mind.
Shen, you animal.
She was indeed too impatient. It was completely normal for Ming Shu to be scared. Not everyone had such a zealous desire for closeness with the person they liked. The fact that Ming Shu had gotten to this point was already very difficult. Perhaps she should stop here. No, she couldn’t stop, but she should at least give Ming Shu more time to adapt and wait until Ming Shu wanted to proceed to the next step.
“Wife, I was too abrupt tonight. I’m sorry. From now on, I’ll give you the initiative.”
The air was silent.
“Good night, Wife. You can rest assured and sleep.”
Shen Junlan reached out to turn off the light and lay flat. She tried her best to restrain her desire to get close to Ming Shu, pulled her gaze back, and tried to hypnotize herself.
Sleep, Shen, you animal.
She couldn’t sleep at all. Shen Junlan closed her eyes and continued to reflect, contemplating how to treat Ming Shu in the future, so she could not only avoid frightening the little rabbit but also get the little rabbit to dance with the greedy wolf.
In the darkness, she couldn’t see the little rabbit’s silent tears soaking the pillow.
Ming Shu had a lot of experience crying. She knew how to hold back her voice and could even control the trembling of her body, trying not to affect the person next to her.
Suddenly, her phone on the bedside table lit up, and the ringtone sounded with it.
Ming Shu immediately guessed that the call was from Lingyu. She immediately got up, covered the receiver, and quietly walked out of the room. She left the door ajar, and as she walked down the hallway, she answered the call.
The hallway lights were very bright, almost blinding. Ming Shu walked to a dark spot by the stairs to take the call.
Ming Shu wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes and sniffled before answering the call.
“Ming Shu, you’re not asleep yet, are you?”
“Not yet.”
“Are you crying? Are you okay? Did you encounter some trouble over there in America?” Lingyu heard that Ming Shu’s voice was off and asked anxiously.
“I’m fine. I just suddenly feel a little sad.”
Ming Shu felt sad thinking about how Professor Shen used a series of passionate confessions to get the chance to hug her to sleep. She knew she shouldn’t be sad, and even thought she was being dramatic.
She had long prepared herself for the fact that Professor Shen was infatuated with her body, yet she was still sad about it.
“Tell me about it, Ming Shu. I’m worried about you like this. Have you contacted Professor Shen? Don’t endure problems alone. Professor Shen will help you.”
“Professor Shen is sleeping in the room. I came out… to take the call.”
Hearing that Ming Shu was sleeping with Professor Shen, Lingyu suddenly didn’t know what to say. All sorts of speculations kept flooding her mind.
Did Professor Shen make Ming Shu cry?
Did Ming Shu and Professor Shen have a fight?
Or… was it too intense, and Ming Shu couldn’t take it, so she cried?
Every guess was like a needle, one after another, stabbing her heart. Lingyu tightly clutched her phone, able to hear Ming Shu’s slightly crying breaths close to her ear, so close, yet so far. She felt a deep sense of powerlessness.
“Lingyu, I think… I’ve really fallen for Professor Shen.”
Like a sudden awakening, Lingyu once again realized that her unspoken affection for Ming Shu was completely sentenced to death.
Ming Shu had truly fallen for Professor Shen.
“That’s not a bad thing, Ming Shu.”
Lingyu, clutching her tattered heart, tried to console Ming Shu, “I see that Professor Shen also likes you very much. And you’ve also fallen for Professor Shen. Isn’t this a happy ending for everyone?”
Ming Shu bit her lip tightly. She couldn’t bring herself to tell Lingyu that Professor Shen was actually just infatuated with her body.
She could only respond in a low voice: “Mhm.” Then she remembered the real reason she contacted Lingyu today, “Lingyu, can I ask you a question?”
“Of course, you can. Go ahead.” Lingyu prepared herself to be stabbed with another needle.
“Lingyu, do you still remember Yu Le, Ms. Yu? The older sister who appeared with Professor Shen at Ling Han’s family restaurant before.”
“I remember. I gave her a ride home last time. Ming Shu, why are you asking about this?”
“What’s your impression of Ms. Yu?”
Lingyu didn’t answer.
After waiting for a while, Ming Shu said carefully, “I know what to say to Professor Shen now.”
“Just moments ago you were crying for Professor Shen, and now you’re asking about Professor Shen’s friend. Ming Shu, you’ve truly fallen in love. But don’t worry, and don’t be sad. Many people spend their entire lives loving and not getting what they want, never connecting with the person they like. When you find it, you should cherish it, and not be afraid.”
“Get some rest early. If there’s anything you can’t talk about with Professor Shen, you can always come to me. Ming Shu, I’m always here.”
“Thank you, Lingyu.”
“You’re welcome. Be happy. When you come back, I want to see a very happy Ming Shu.”
Ming Shu gave a small laugh, “Lingyu, I have some good news for you. The negotiator lady privately told me that after this project ends, the company will give me another raise. I’ll buy you a gift then.”
“Will you only buy one for me? Won’t Professor Shen get jealous?”
“Professor Shen doesn’t seem to have anything she particularly likes. I don’t know what to get her.”
“A gift from the person you love, no matter what it is, should make them happy, right?”
Ming Shu thought about the bouquet she had carefully selected and arranged at the flower shop that evening. Professor Shen barely looked at it, and it received less affection than Ling Han had for that red rose. As far as she knew, the only thing Professor Shen liked was her body.
Once she had adjusted her mood, she could satisfy Professor Shen. Professor Shen should like it if she took the initiative.
Without any private emotions she shouldn’t have, she thought she could satisfy Professor Shen.
After ending the call with Lingyu, Ming Shu turned to go back to the room, but after only two steps, another call came in.
It was from Aunt Zhang. Ming Shu answered directly.
“Aunt Zhang, you were looking for me…”
Ming Shu was interrupted before she could finish by an unfamiliar female voice from the phone.
“Are you the wife Junlan married, who only got a marriage certificate and didn’t have a wedding?”
