- Chapter 67 (END OF MAIN STORY)
Millions of fans and onlookers watching the live stream simultaneously widened their eyes in shock, gasping in disbelief.
They even forgot to send barrage comments.
On screen, two stunning beauties in red dresses were locked in a kiss, so dreamlike it seemed surreal.
But, this was reality!
What on earth were the top idol and triple-award-winning actress doing?!
Everyone had been waiting for the interview segment to clarify things, but instead, they were blindsided by the most monumental scene in entertainment history, unfolding right on the red carpet.
Amid the eerie silence, barrage comments finally began to trickle in:
[Is this an official announcement?? Holy crap, we’re witnessing history in the C-ent world!!]
[AHHHHHHHH MY SHIP IS REAL, I’M PRESSING MY PHILTRUM LIKE CRAZY AHHHH]
[Am I the only one finding this super hot? Jiang Tian’s hand is literally resting on Teacher Qi’s bare back… like, why does it feel like I’m watching my ship do it live (whispers)…]
[I’M DEAD FROM THE SUGAR!! WHAT’S BETTER THAN A REAL-LIFE COUPLE?!]
During the post-signing interview, reporters swarmed around them.
“Um, may I ask. what is your relationship?”
Still dazed, the journalists stared at the radiant pair holding hands tightly, their voices drifting as if sleepwalking.
A question that already had an obvious answer.
Qi Puzhi raised a delicate brow, smiling enchantingly. “Naturally, the kind where I call her ‘wife.’”
Her bold, unapologetic response left the reporters momentarily speechless.
Qi Puzhi simply took the microphone from her hand and turned the interview into a full-blown press conference.
The woman, breathtakingly gorgeous, parted her red lips and announced with effortless grace, “Jiang Tian and I are in a relationship with marriage as our goal. Thank you all for your concern.”
As she spoke, she casually twisted the ring on her finger.
A blatant display of affection.
Beside her, the younger woman’s gaze never left her face, her dimples never fading as she smiled with adoration and tenderness.
Reporters who had only seen Jiang Tian’s profile the entire time: “Uh, Teacher Jiang, could you look toward the camera for a moment?”
The barrage audience was losing it:
[Alright, alright, we get it, that’s your wife but Jiang Tian, could you maybe spare a glance for the camera first? HAHAHAHA]
[The whole cold, aloof B-king image is a lie, turns out she’s just an eager, love-struck puppy who can’t take her eyes off her wife, SOS]
[Going public during their rise is insanely bold, major respect.]
The post-event gala after Starry Night was private, with no live stream, but the internet remained ablaze with excitement.
The footage from those few minutes was dissected frame by frame, each second a feast for the eyes.
A professional lip-reader claimed: After careful analysis, Jiang Tian’s words on the red carpet were, “I really want to kiss you right now,” and Qi Puzhi’s response was likely, “Then kiss me.”
[Someone get me an oxygen tank, this sweetness is lethal.]
[Jiang Tian is so smooth, who wouldn’t fall for her?! AHHHH]
[Teacher Qi is so doting, ugh, who wouldn’t want a sister like her?]
Even at the gala, the newly public couple remained the center of attention.
After enduring waves of well-wishers and sycophants, Qi Puzhi finally managed to sit down in a quiet corner to rest.
Jiang Tian had been pulled aside by a music producer to discuss a collaboration, leaving Qi Puzhi to sip her juice slowly while her gaze lingered on the younger woman’s striking profile.
“Cousin’s love life is truly the envy of everyone.”
A voice laced with ambiguous meaning came from beside her.
Qi Puzhi glanced at Qi Hui without speaking, merely asking with her eyes what the matter was.
Qi Hui moved closer, almost sitting right next to her, but Qi Puzhi subtly shifted away.
“Cousin, why are you avoiding me like I’m some kind of snake or scorpion?” Qi Hui remarked with feigned hurt, noticing the slight retreat.
“Is there something you need?” Qi Puzhi had little patience for her and cut straight to the point.
Qi Hui’s gaze turned distant as she stared at her without speaking. Then she picked up Qi Puzhi’s glass of juice, turning it so that the side with the lipstick mark faced her, and slowly lowered her head.
Qi Puzhi frowned and snatched the glass away just before Qi Hui’s lips could touch it, causing juice to splash onto her hand.
Unfazed, Qi Hui seemed to have anticipated this reaction. She leisurely pulled out a tissue and handed it to Qi Puzhi. “Cousin, you’ve known about my feelings for you for a long time, haven’t you?”
Seeing the surprise in Qi Puzhi’s eyes, her composure faltered, and she froze momentarily.
“You didn’t know?” she asked, disbelief coloring her voice.
Qi Puzhi’s expression remained cold. “You were complicit in the Qi family’s oppression of me. No one would interpret that as affection, not even you should.”
Qi Hui had never committed the kind of unforgivable acts that Qi Ke had. Mostly, she had stood by indifferently or acted as a pawn for the family, powerless to resist. The only thing she had done for Qi Puzhi was anonymously exposing the Qi family’s misdeeds on a forum when Qi Puzhi fought back.
But apologies after harm are too late, they mean nothing.
Qi Hui let out a bitter laugh, as if mocking herself. “Who says the desire to destroy what you can’t have isn’t love? It’s just twisted, that’s all.”
“I even noticed Jiang Tian had a crush on you when she was little… Back then, she used to stand at the Jiang family’s gate, silently watching you from afar,” Qi Hui continued. “But you really did look beautiful sitting in the rocking chair, reading under the sunlight.”
Her voice dropped to a whisper. “I never thought she’d be the one to have you in the end.”
“So, did you come here today to express your regrets?” Qi Puzhi’s patience was wearing thin.
Now that she had a wife, she felt it inappropriate to engage in lengthy conversations with someone who harbored ulterior motives toward her.
Qi Hui chuckled. “No, I came to offer my blessings. You probably don’t know this, but the ring Jiang Tian gave you was custom-made by D’s top designer, I happen to know them. And with that gemstone embedded in it, the price likely drained all the money she’s earned since her debut.”
“Though it might sound hypocritical, seeing that she seems to love you a little. I feel slightly relieved.”
She stood up and left before Qi Puzhi could respond.
Qi Puzhi lowered her gaze to the ring on her left hand, her lashes fluttering lightly.
She had guessed it was expensive, but not this expensive.
Knowing Jiang Tian, if she were to give Qi Puzhi a ring, she definitely wouldn’t have used family money.
Had she emptied her savings?
By the time Jiang Tian returned from her work discussion, she had no idea her girlfriend was already worrying about her financial state.
Taking advantage of the dim lighting, she kissed Qi Puzhi’s cheek and asked softly, “Tired?”
Qi Puzhi shook her head, nestling against Jiang Tian’s shoulder, deciding to pretend she knew nothing about it.
It didn’t matter, she was the wealthy one here. She’d take Jiang Tian on a spending spree.
Jiang Tian’s arm instinctively wrapped around her, accidentally brushing against the exposed skin of her back through the cutout in her dress.
But what started as an accident turned deliberate, her fingers tracing light, teasing patterns.
Qi Puzhi bit her lower lip, her breath quickening slightly, allowing her mischievous touch.
“By the way, my parents were asking when you’d be free to have dinner with them recently.”
These words struck Qi Puzhi’s ears like a sudden clap of thunder.
Originally slouching in her seat, she instantly straightened up, blinking helplessly. “Huh?”
Seeing her rare moment of fluster, Jiang Tian couldn’t help but find it both adorable and amusing. She enunciated each word softly:
“We need to discuss wedding plans, wifey.”
As a business partner who had negotiated at countless dinner tables over the years, this was Qi Puzhi’s first time meeting Jiang’s father in the capacity of a daughter-in-law.
The awkwardness was undeniable.
Fortunately, perhaps because Jiang Tian had said something in advance, neither of Jiang’s parents gave her a hard time and were quite warm instead.
When they heard the couple didn’t plan to have a wedding ceremony and would instead opt for a honeymoon trip, they expressed their support.
Qi Puzhi gradually relaxed, just thinking to herself that meeting the parents wasn’t as daunting as the legendary tales made it out to be, when Jiang’s father spoke up: “By the way, I just got a bottle of wine. Xiao Qi, have a few sips with us.”
Jiang Tian immediately interjected, “Dad, we agreed you wouldn’t make her drink.”
Jiang’s father looked at his daughter, whose loyalty was so clearly skewed toward her wife, and sighed with exasperation. “I’m not forcing her to drink, just a light taste. This is wine you can’t usually get your hands on.”
Qi Puzhi soothingly squeezed Jiang Tian’s arm. “It’s fine, let me try it.”
And with that taste, it truly was delicious.
Thus, Jiang Tian could only watch as Qi Puzhi and her parents drank merrily together. The initial stiffness had completely melted away, replaced by cheerful conversation.
Every family of four needs at least one sober person, so Jiang Tian didn’t drink much.
Seeing Qi Puzhi’s cheeks flush red, Jiang Tian grew concerned that she might overdo it and harm her health. She reached out to stop her from going for another drink, coaxing gently,
“Let’s stop for now, okay? You’re already flushed.”
Qi Puzhi paused mid-motion, tilting her head to look at her without a word.
Her obsidian-like eyes were deep and unfathomable, her beautiful face tinged with crimson, brimming with pitiful grievance.
In that instant, Jiang Tian realized,
Qi the Unhappy had made a limited-time return.
Perhaps because their relationship had deepened since the last time, this version of Qi the Unhappy was even more aggrieved than before.
As Jiang Tian helped her out of her coat, she saw her lips pressed together, eyes downcast.
The very picture of someone who would never be happy again.
Suppressing a laugh, Jiang Tian lifted her onto her lap, tilting her head up to gently kiss her lower eyelid. “What’s wrong, wifey? Who’s upset you now?”
At these words, Qi Puzhi’s lashes fluttered, and tears trembled at the corners of her eyes before spilling over.
“You don’t call me wifey,” she accused, voice choked with emotion.
“…” Jiang Tian, who had just called her wifey, was momentarily speechless.
Qi the Unhappy was truly nonsensical.
But she didn’t argue. Instead, she leaned up to kiss her, docile and appeasing. “My bad. Does wifey have any other grievances?”
As she spoke, she carried her to the bathroom to draw a bath.
After undressing her, she carefully lowered her into the warm water.
By the time Jiang Tian settled into the tub herself, Qi Puzhi had already instinctively snuggled up to her.
Between hiccups, she continued listing her grievances: “You didn’t hold me.”
Jiang Tian’s arms, already tightly wrapped around Qi Puzhi’s back:
She arched a brow, kissing Qi Puzhi’s thick, curled lashes. “What else?”
Qi Puzhi blinked slowly, struggling to think through the haze of steam, her lips, now even redder from the warmth parting slightly: “You didn’t kiss me.”
“I knew it.” Jiang Tian chuckled softly, obligingly leaning down to capture those tempting lips.
She kissed her until Qi Puzhi’s mind grew hazy, forgetting what she had meant to accuse next.
After the kiss, Jiang Tian still couldn’t get enough and kept pecking at her.
Cheeks, forehead, the corners of her eyes, the tip of her nose, the edges of her lips… Every part of her was adorable, every part of her was lovable.
Peck after peck, kisses without end.
In this silent yet fervent display of affection, perhaps anyone would become spoiled and indulged.
And Qi Bule was already far more spoiled than Qi Puzhi.
So she pursed her lips, turned her head away, and let out a soft hum, whispering, “No more kissing me.”
Jiang Tian looked at the woman’s profile, so clearly betraying her words, and secretly curved her eyes, obediently stopping.
“…” Qi Bule waited and waited, but the forced love she had imagined never came.
So she cried again, aggrieved.
Jiang Tian coaxed and attended to her, nearly losing herself in the process.
By the time they emerged from the bathroom, Qi Puzhi was mostly awake, rolling straight into the blankets and covering herself from head to toe, not particularly eager to face anyone.
But Jiang Tian pulled her out, refusing to let her hide.
Later, thirsty after the ceasefire, the two went to the kitchen for water.
The lights were off, the night pitch black, with only faint glimmers of light seeping in through the window.
Somehow, they tangled up again.
Then came the sound of footsteps.
They froze, caught in the act.
Nestled in Jiang Tian’s arms, Qi Puzhi heard her heartbeat, as frantic as her own, holding her breath until she nearly suffocated.
It was unclear whether it was Jiang’s father or mother, but thankfully, they didn’t turn on the light, simply drinking water at the kitchen counter before leaving.
As the footsteps faded, Qi Puzhi had just relaxed when things grew urgent again.
Later, Jiang Tian indulged herself before the life-sized poster of 22-year-old Qi Puzhi in the bedroom, savoring the 28-year-old Qi Puzhi.
Amidst their ragged breaths, she heard Qi Puzhi whimper softly, “You have to love me like this forever.”
For some reason, Jiang Tian’s nose stung, and tears suddenly fell.
She paused, gently caressing Qi Puzhi’s cheek, and whispered devoutly, “I will.”
“Just like Ye Su said to Pei Ying… if there’s another life, I’ll keep loving you then too.”
Qi Puzhi pressed her forehead against Jiang Tian’s, the tears on her lashes glistening brightly under the moonlight.
Slowly, she replied, “I believe you.”
(The End)
