- Chapter 67 - Arch-rival X Fake Heiress
At this hour, there weren’t many people in the hotel. Su Mi carrying someone in her arms like this immediately caught the attention of the front desk.
Initially, the staff thought a film crew was shooting a scene, but after looking behind and seeing no one following, a receptionist hurried forward to ask Su Mi if she needed any help.
Su Mi asked the receptionist to help press the elevator floor button for her and then politely declined any further assistance.
Inside the elevator, Su Mi stood in the center holding Guan Yue. Guan Yue hadn’t completely lost consciousness, in her daze, she knew enough to wrap her arms around Su Mi’s neck to keep herself from falling.
Both had changed into dry clothes before leaving the set, and their hair wasn’t completely soaked, having been given a quick blow-dry, but the ends were still slightly damp.
Guan Yue’s cheek pressed against Su Mi’s right shoulder. Likely uncomfortable because a few damp strands of hair were stuck to her face, she rubbed against Su Mi’s shoulder, only settling down once she found a comfortable position.
The elevator ride was smooth and reached their floor quickly.
Su Mi carried her through the corridor covered in thick carpet and found her room.
Her room card was in her coat pocket. Carrying someone made it difficult to maneuver, so she had to stretch her fingers as far as possible to reach it.
Sensing a slight instability in the arms holding her, Guan Yue subconsciously tightened her grip around Su Mi’s neck and opened her eyes blearily.
“Are you going to abandon me too?”
There was a hint of grievance in her tone.
Su Mi, who had just managed to pinch the room card with her fingers, froze. She looked down into Guan Yue’s half-closed eyes.
At this moment, Guan Yue lacked the arrogance she usually displayed; she looked more like a little hedgehog revealing its soft underbelly.
Su Mi tightened her embrace and spoke from above her head, “No, I won’t abandon you.”
Satisfied with the answer, Guan Yue closed her eyes.
Holding the room card between her fingers, Su Mi tapped it against the sensor, and the door unlocked instantly.
She tucked the card into her palm and pushed the door open to bring her inside.
Because her hands were full, she couldn’t insert the card into the power slot immediately. The curtains were drawn tight, so after Su Mi closed the door, the visibility in the room became very low.
She had been exhausted after returning yesterday and hadn’t finished unpacking. Since she disliked others touching her things, her assistant, Xiao Xin, hadn’t dared to tidy up for her. Consequently, several open suitcases and items were scattered across the floor.
Fortunately, Su Mi relied on her memory to navigate safely to the bedside to set Guan Yue down.
But just as she placed her on the bed and prepared to withdraw her hand, she felt resistance.
Guan Yue didn’t seem to want to let go.
“Liar!” she accused reproachfully.
One of Su Mi’s hands was still pressed behind Guan Yue’s waist, and her neck was still being held. This bent-over posture was quite inconvenient, so she used her other hand to prop herself up beside Guan Yue’s ear.
“Who is a liar?” Su Mi asked, her voice dropping unconsciously.
Guan Yue took a moment to reply: “You.”
Su Mi asked: “Why am I a liar?”
After asking, she waited for a while without receiving a response and assumed Guan Yue had fallen back asleep.
Just as she prepared to stand up again, Guan Yue shifted and refused to let go, her voice muffled: “…Didn’t you say you wouldn’t abandon me?”
Su Mi smiled and held her arm: “I just want to go boil some hot water for you; I’m not abandoning you.”
Guan Yue didn’t seem to fully process it, eventually responding with a simple: “Oh.”
But she still didn’t let go.
Finally, after some coaxing, Su Mi managed to get her to release her grip.
Since they were staying for several months, Xiao Xin had brought many of Su Mi’s daily necessities, including an electric kettle.
Su Mi went to the door to insert the power card, and the room was instantly flooded with light.
Suddenly hit by the piercing brightness, Guan Yue let out an uncomfortable groan and rolled over to hide herself, shielding her eyes.
Seeing this, Su Mi quickly turned off the main lights, leaving only a few warm-toned small lights along the edge of the ceiling.
As expected, Guan Yue stopped covering her face and fell still after adjusting her sleeping position.
Su Mi poured purified water into the kettle and pressed the switch.
Then, taking a clean towel from her open suitcase, she went to the bathroom, soaked it in hot water, wrung it dry, and returned to sit by the bed.
She gently wiped Guan Yue’s face with the towel, then cleaned her neck.
When Su Mi looked up, Guan Yue had opened her eyes again, frowning as she stared at her. “Why are you here?”
Su Mi thought she had sobered up and was about to kick her out, but before she could speak, Guan Yue said, “Did my parents ask you to tutor me again?”
“…Yes,” Su Mi played along.
There was a two years age gap between them, but they had attended the same schools from kindergarten through high school. Their families were close back then, and their grades were inevitably compared.
Clearly, Su Mi’s grades were superior, but Guan Yue’s academic performance wasn’t bad either; it was just that her parents wanted her to be perfect in everything.
They had hired private tutors for every subject since she was young, but Guan Yue hated the high-paid teachers brought into her home.
By the third year of middle school, she had become quite rebellious, driving away countless teachers in a single semester.
In desperation, Guan Yue’s parents had sought help from Su Mi, who was then in her first year of high school, and the latter had agreed.
Recalling this, Su Mi realized that her “former self” hadn’t been on such strained terms with Guan Yue, but they had eventually drifted apart onto different paths.
Yet, looking back, she couldn’t find a specific reason, they had simply lost touch.
Hearing Su Mi admit it, Guan Yue made a face, clearly reluctant: “But my head hurts, I don’t want to study.”
“Then we won’t,” Su Mi said.
Guan Yue looked momentarily dazed, as if those words shouldn’t have come from Su Mi’s mouth.
Furthermore, the Su Mi in front of her felt slightly different. In her memory, Su Mi was always serious; despite being in the prime of her youth, she always kept a cold face.
Even her features seemed different from memory, more relaxed, less immature, but still as clean and clear as ever.
“Why are you staring at me?” Su Mi asked casually, noticing her unblinking gaze.
Guan Yue huffed and closed her eyes. “Don’t be so vain, I wasn’t looking at you.”
Seeing her eyes closed, Su Mi didn’t disturb her further. She got up to go wash the towel.
When she returned from the bathroom, the person on the bed was motionless, seemingly asleep again.
Su Mi sat by the bed, quietly watching Guan Yue sleep.
She reached out to trace her beautiful features as if to engrave these outlines into her very soul; no matter how she changed in each world, Su Mi could always find that trace of familiarity.
Perhaps due to that half-bottle of red wine, Guan Yue’s skin was still a bit warm to the touch.
Su Mi lowered her lashes, her voice low: “Can’t drink, yet you still insist on showing off.”
Luckily, it was her she encountered.
If her partner this time hadn’t been her, but that Lu Ningning instead… Su Mi felt incredibly irritable just thinking about the possibility.
In her sleep, Guan Yue seemed to hear her, frowning unpleasantly and even pursing her lips in dissatisfaction.
Su Mi suppressed the smile at the corner of her mouth and smoothed out the space between Guan Yue’s brows.
This time, she really couldn’t take even a word of criticism.
Ten minutes later, Su Mi received a message from Xiao Xin.
She had previously messaged Xiao Xin, telling them not to knock when they returned but to message her instead.
Su Mi took her phone to the door. Outside stood Xiao Xin and Guan Yue’s little assistant.
“Where is the hangover medicine?” Su Mi asked.
Hearing this, the assistant quickly held up the medicine. “Right here.”
“Good.” Su Mi took the items directly from her. “Thanks for the hard work, go get some rest.”
The assistant watched blankly as the medicine was taken away and the door was shut.
“Wait, that’s not right,” the assistant turned to Xiao Xin, pointing at the closed door. “I mean… Sister Guan…”
She had originally come to take her boss back, but now the medicine was gone, and she hadn’t even seen the person.
At this moment, Xiao Xin displayed the “unshakable under any circumstances” quality an A-list actress’s assistant should possess. She patted the assistant’s shoulder, hooked an arm around her, and led her toward the elevator. “It’s fine, our Teacher Su just loves to be helpful, haha.”
In reality, her boss hated trouble and had no interest in minding other people’s business.
The assistant was led away for a bit. During this time, countless unsavory industry rumors flashed through her mind.
In this circle, if a superior person suddenly approaches an inferior one, the act itself is suspicious. Moreover, there were already many rumors online about why Su Mi had agreed to act in this movie, some had even tried to dig up Guan Yue’s background, only giving up when they found nothing.
Having been by Guan Yue’s side for two years, the assistant had never seen any interaction between the two; in fact, her boss mysteriously hated Movie Queen Su.
She had never seriously thought about why her boss hated Su Mi so much, assuming it was just a simple personality clash.
But thinking about it now… could it be from before? Thinking of this, the assistant felt a chill down her spine.
Teacher Su didn’t look like that kind of person, but in the entertainment industry, you can’t judge a book by its cover.
Just before reaching the elevator, the assistant suddenly grabbed a nearby wall. “No, Sister Xiao Xin, I-I-I still have to go check on Sister Guan.”
It better not be what she was thinking!!!
Before Xiao Xin could stop her, the assistant turned and ran.
The assistant felt like she was sprinting a fifty meters dash. By the time she reached Su Mi’s door, she was out of breath as she knocked.
She knocked once, no response.
She knocked again, still, no one came to open the door.
Just as the assistant’s trembling hand pulled out her phone to dial a certain three digits national emergency number, the door finally opened from the inside.
Su Mi appeared, standing there without much expression, her eyes cold. Her clothes looked a bit disheveled, as if someone had just been tugging at them.
Noticing the assistant’s gaze, Su Mi reached out to pull the hem of her top, smoothing it out.
She frowned slightly, her tone indifferent and chilly: “Is there something?”
Seeing this, the assistant seemed even more panicked.
Something? Of course there’s something! What did you do to my boss!!!
“Teacher Su, I… I wanted to see how Sister Guan is doing…” The assistant spoke with a stutter, her voice even carrying a slight tremor.
Su Mi stared at her, even catching a glimpse of the three digits on her phone screen that hadn’t been dialed yet. She then gave a faint smile: “She is doing very well right now.”
“Re-really?” The assistant didn’t believe it. She was prepared to rush inside, even if Teacher Su blocked her, she was going to push through.
Just as the assistant was building up eight hundred layers of psychological defense to charge forward, her boss’s familiar voice drifted from inside the room.
“Su Mi, the water is too hot, I don’t want to drink it!”
The voice was imperious, yet it carried a hint of coquettishness that the speaker herself hadn’t noticed.
Su Mi turned her head upon hearing it. The person who had been cold and distant just a second ago now had relaxed features, and her tone became gentle: “Mhm, wait for me a moment.”
She turned back to the assistant and said sincerely: “Is there anything else?”
The assistant retracted the foot she was about to step forward with and rubbed her face awkwardly. “Ah, it’s fine then, as long as she’s okay. Hello Teacher Su, goodbye Teacher Su.”
With that, she bowed and ran away in a panic.
It’s over, it’s over. These two turn out to be in… that kind of relationship.
