- Chapter 53 - The Aloof Professor X The Obedient Beauty
Lin Nanyue froze for a moment upon hearing the question, seemingly unprepared for Su Mi to bring this up now.
The hand that had been gripping Su Mi’s clothes loosened slightly, and her eyes showed a hint of evasion. Seeing her attempt to escape, Su Mi decided not to indulge her this time.
Su Mi leaned in closer. Her previously half-unbuttoned collar hung askew, revealing a large expanse of fair skin and her elegant, beautiful collarbones. From Lin Nanyue’s perspective, she could even see the deep hollow draped by the camisole, causing her face to heat up instantly.
Due to Su Mi’s downward approach, Lin Nanyue had no choice but to release her grip and prop her hands behind her on the bed to support her reclining body. Su Mi maintained a deliberate distance, allowing the lamplight to clearly illuminate every subtle expression on Lin Nanyue’s face.
“Why?”
Lin Nanyue pursed her lips. “I… I hadn’t made up my mind then.”
At that moment, her mind had seemed blank, yet it was actually flooded with countless thoughts. As a student about to graduate, she was no longer in her green, adolescent years. Having already stepped halfway into society, she understood its implicit rules and cruelty. She knew clearly that the gap and barrier between her and Professor Su couldn’t be bridged as easily as simply looking up to kiss her.
Back then, watching the other woman approach, an impulse to claim her as her own had surged in her heart. She didn’t want a fleeting romance, she wanted something long-lasting. However, her indecisiveness had won out at the time.
Cowardice had made her retreat.
Lin Nanyue organized these hidden thoughts and explained them to Su Mi. “I felt like there were too many things standing between us,” she said, looking at Su Mi. “I was afraid I couldn’t catch up to you, and I was afraid you wouldn’t be willing to wait for me.”
Su Mi remained silent after hearing this. Her gaze darkened as she looked at Lin Nanyue, seemingly contemplating the hidden emotions and humility in her words.
“What do you think stands between us?” Su Mi’s voice was clear and cool, yet it sounded strangely tender in this moment. “Money, status, or power?”
Lin Nanyue nodded gently.
“But those are all added values bestowed by the outside world. Anyone can gain them, and anyone can lose them,” Su Mi paused before continuing. “You can approach me for those things, but you cannot distance yourself from me because of them.”
Lin Nanyue’s eyes widened slightly upon hearing the latter half of the sentence. She was momentarily stunned, not expecting the seemingly sophisticated and capable Professor Su to say something so… “love-brained.”
Su Mi asked again, “Then what are you thinking now? Why did you dare to chase after me tonight?”
Lin Nanyue sat up slightly to get closer to Su Mi until their noses almost touched. Her eyes flickered. “Because I’ve realized that even if I don’t have those things now, it doesn’t matter. But you, Professor Su, are different.”
“Mm,” Su Mi followed her lead. “How am I different?”
Lin Nanyue raised a hand to cup Su Mi’s cheek, as if admiring a precious treasure. She tilted her face up, kissed Su Mi on the chin, and then nuzzled her affectionately. A smile played on her lips, making her look like a clever, obedient little fox. “Compared to being unworthy of you, I think I’m more afraid of losing you.”
She still had time and opportunity in the future to acquire those external things Su Mi mentioned, but Su Mi was different. She was a living person, if she missed this chance, she might never encounter her again.
Hearing her own importance from Lin Nanyue’s mouth, Su Mi finally smiled. She tapped Lin Nanyue’s forehead with her finger. “Seems you’re not that stupid.”
Then, Su Mi suddenly added, “However, between you and me, there truly is an insurmountable chasm.”
Lin Nanyue tilted her head in confusion. “What?”
Su Mi tilted her head as well, revealing a clean, sharp jawline under the warm glow of the light. Her lips curved up, and a hint of a smile appeared in her amber eyes, adding a touch of grace to her demeanor.
“I am seven years older than you. Those seven years are a time I cannot overcome.”
Lin Nanyue corrected her seriously, “It’s six years. I was in poor health as a child and started school a year late. And…”
She suddenly cupped Su Mi’s face with both hands, examining her closely before giving a fair judgment: “Professor Su, you don’t look like you’re that much older than me at all.”
Su Mi caught the phrasing, her tone turning slightly dangerous. “That much older?”
Realizing she had misspoken, Lin Nanyue quickly pulled her in for a kiss to soothe her. “Just a little bit.”
Seeing Su Mi looking down, seemingly unmoved, Lin Nanyue leaned against her and softly called out, “Sister (Jiejie).”
This form of address made Su Mi’s cold eyebrows twitch. She couldn’t help but think of the first time they met, when the girl had leaned against her and called her “Sister,” though back then Su Mi had been busy trying to distance herself.
Su Mi lowered her head, her nose brushing against the other’s bridge playfully. “Say it again.”
Lin Nanyue complied obediently. “Sister.”
Her voice was like something wrapped in soft cotton candy, delicate and sweet, bringing joy to Su Mi’s heart.
Having maintained the pose for a long time, Lin Nanyue’s back began to give out. Just as she was about to fall, Su Mi reached out and hugged her. They tumbled down together, Su Mi kneeling on the bed, looking down at the girl beneath her.
Lin Nanyue felt a sense of restlessness. Her gaze kept drifting to Su Mi’s beautiful lips. She remembered that soft sensation, if she hadn’t kissed them herself, she wouldn’t have believed Professor Su’s lips were so soft. They were completely different from her somewhat cold and hard exterior.
Su Mi naturally saw through her intentions. She lowered her head a bit more but didn’t take the final step. When she lowered her eyes, the corners of her long, narrow eyes tilted up slightly, looking somewhat enchanting under the lamplight.
Despite her own internal stirrings, she chose to wait patiently until the other could no longer restrain herself.
The less experienced Lin Nanyue was the first to lift her head and press her lips against the ones she longed for, kissing them gently. Only then did Su Mi support the back of the girl’s neck. Her smooth nails lightly grazed the side of Lin Nanyue’s neck, occasionally switching to her fingertips to press down firmly, leaving fleeting red marks.
Perhaps because she had already had an “appetizer” earlier, Su Mi’s kisses were now like a gentle breeze and drizzle, not as hurried as before. Lin Nanyue clung to her shoulders, thoroughly enjoying the warm kiss.
“Take off the wet clothes first,” Su Mi finally remembered during a gap in the kissing. “Do you need help?”
Their lips were still brushing against each other, she didn’t stop the contact even while speaking. With her breath slightly disordered, Lin Nanyue gave a kitten-like response.
Su Mi finally pulled away, her elegant features showing a trace of restraint and endurance. Lin Nanyue was wearing a round neck long-sleeve shirt. Su Mi’s hand reached under the hem, gripped the slender waist for a moment, and then let go, remembering her “proper” purpose.
With Su Mi’s help, the clothes were quickly removed and tossed aside. Underneath, Lin Nanyue was wearing a white camisole, which also felt damp to the touch.
Su Mi’s own clothes were still wet as well. She propped herself up over Lin Nanyue and unfastened the remaining buttons of her shirt. Lin Nanyue lay flat on the bed, watching Professor Su unhurriedly unbutton her shirt. For some reason, her face began to flush.
Without the shirt, Su Mi’s physique was clean-lined with a tight, smooth waist. One could see traces of exercise, though the muscles weren’t exaggerated.
Su Mi suddenly leaned down toward Lin Nanyue. The latter instinctively gripped the bedsheets with her side placed hands, almost as if she were expecting something. But Su Mi simply reached over her to grab a bath towel from further away. She also gave Lin Nanyue’s outer thigh a light pat. “Your pants are wet too. Take them off together.”
The slow-witted Lin Nanyue instinctively replied, “Aren’t you going to help me anymore?”
Su Mi’s hand holding the towel froze. Her gaze toward Lin Nanyue became unreadable, as if she were confirming how serious that question was.
Realizing what she’d said, Lin Nanyue pushed herself up with both hands, her face turning red as she repeated, “I’ll do it myself, I’ll do it myself.”
Su Mi let out a light chuckle. She wrapped the towel around Lin Nanyue and rubbed gently to wipe away the remaining rainwater on the surface. Then she turned around to let Lin Nanyue take off her wet trousers. As for herself, she wasn’t as wet as Lin Nanyue, the water marks on her jeans had mostly rubbed off from the girl earlier, so it wasn’t a big deal if she didn’t change immediately.
“I’m ready,” Lin Nanyue reported.
When Su Mi turned back, she saw Lin Nanyue sitting there with her lower half nearly bare, looking quite pitiful. Su Mi’s heart skipped a beat, and her eyelids flickered.
Just then, a sharp knock came from the door. The voice of the landlady, whose room wasn’t very soundproof, came through, saying she had bought the items requested.
Su Mi quickly pulled the quilt over Lin Nanyue, wrapping her up tightly. Then she strode to the door, opening it only halfway to talk to the landlady. When she closed the door, she was holding a bag stuffed to the brim.
Lin Nanyue looked at her eagerly from the bed, like an innocent little animal. Su Mi looked away and took the clothes out of the bag. Because she had paid well, the landlady had been generous and bought several sets of fresh clothes.
“Go take a shower first and change into these clean clothes.”
Lin Nanyue nodded obediently. After crawling out of the quilt, she took the clothes to the bathroom.
Su Mi didn’t stay idle while waiting. She went downstairs to book an additional room and explained Lin Nanyue’s presence to the landlady. The little girl nearby clearly recognized Lin Nanyue. “Mama, it’s Sister Yueyue. She gave me the lollipops.”
The landlady put her hands on her hips and made a sound of disapproval, tapping her daughter’s head. “You little thing, bought off by a bit of sugar.”
The little girl was unconvinced and muttered softly, “I only said it because it’s Sister Yueyue.”
The landlady immediately apologized to Su Mi, efficiently opened another room for her, and even gave her a discount. During the process, the little girl climbed onto a high stool and leaned over the counter, peering at Su Mi with one question after another.
“Are you Sister Yueyue’s friend?” “Big sister, you look as pretty as Sister Yueyue. Can you give me some of your ‘pretty’?” “Sister Yueyue gave me too much candy. Can you help me give some back to her?”
Su Mi patiently answered the little girl and even accepted a few lollipops she handed over. Fearing Su Mi would be annoyed, the landlady quickly turned to stop her daughter. “Why so many words? I’m so sorry, children don’t know their limits.”
“It’s fine.”
When Su Mi returned, she was also carrying a cup of prepared cold medicine. Just then, Lin Nanyue finished her shower and came out in clean clothes, though her hair wasn’t completely dry.
Su Mi reached out to catch the ends of her hair, her brow furrowing slightly. “Why didn’t you dry your hair?”
Lin Nanyue instinctively spoke in a coquettish tone. “The hairdryer is a bit slow, and I got tired. But the roots are dry, so it’s okay.”
“I’ll help you,” Su Mi handed her the medicine. “It’s not hot anymore. Drink this first.”
Su Mi went into the bathroom to prepare. After drinking the medicine, Lin Nanyue returned to the bathroom. The space was small, because of the recent shower, the mirror was covered in a light mist, and a trace of heat remained in the air. The humming sound of the hairdryer filled the narrow room.
This was effectively Su Mi’s first time drying someone else’s hair. She wasn’t as casual as she was with herself; instead, she was gentle and meticulous. Her hand occasionally brushed against Lin Nanyue’s ears, which were white with a hint of pink, looking quite adorable.
Feeling the sensation of Su Mi lifting her hair and the occasional touch, Lin Nanyue’s heartbeat was perfectly hidden beneath the noise of the hairdryer.
“Should I send you back later?”
The rain outside had lessened for a bit while Lin Nanyue was showering, but it was getting heavy again.
Lin Nanyue looked up slightly and whispered, “…Actually, I don’t have to go back.”
But the hairdryer was too loud, drowning out her voice. Su Mi had to turn it off first and lean in close. “What did you just say?”
Looking at Su Mi so close to her, Lin Nanyue still couldn’t help her racing heart. “I don’t have to go back. I’ll just let my grandma know.”
“…Alright.” Having received the answer, Su Mi turned the dryer back on.
After an unknown amount of time, the humming stopped abruptly, restoring silence to the room. Su Mi naturally rubbed the girl’s earlobe. “Done.”
Lin Nanyue gave a low response and was the first to walk out of the stuffy bathroom to breathe the fresh air. Su Mi followed her out and picked up the room card she had placed on the table earlier. “I opened another room next door. If you don’t want to go back, you can rest there.”
Lin Nanyue was stunned for a second. “What about you? The quilt here got wet from the rain; you won’t be comfortable sleeping here.”
“I’ll just go open another one,” Su Mi said.
Lin Nanyue started biting her lower lip again. “Why? Are you unwilling to stay in the same room as me? I’m not going to do anything to you.”
“Don’t bite,” Su Mi stopped her bad habit. “I was afraid you would be uncomfortable.”
Lin Nanyue frowned. “But we’ve already kissed twice, and now… things are fine.” She continued, “Why use so many high-sounding reasons? Sister, don’t you want to sleep with me?”
Su Mi looked at her deeply, thinking that this girl would one day have to pay a price for that mouth of hers.
In the end, the two of them went to the newly opened room together.
When Su Mi finished her shower and came out, Lin Nanyue was already lying in bed, looking half-asleep. Su Mi turned off the main light, leaving only a bedside lamp, and sat down on the side where Lin Nanyue was sleeping.
Sensing the bed sink beside her, Lin Nanyue opened her eyes. Thinking Su Mi wanted to sleep on that side, she groalily rolled over to the other side in her half-awake state, thoughtfully clearing the space for her.
Su Mi didn’t even have time to stop her. Helplessly, she had to lie down on the half of the bed Lin Nanyue had specially vacated and turned off the light.
In the darkness, every tiny movement was magnified. Rustling sounds continued incessantly. Finally unable to bear it, Su Mi reached under the quilt and pulled the constantly moving culprit into her arms.
Lin Nanyue, who had intended to slowly and secretly move closer, instantly froze. Sensing her stiffness, Su Mi prepared to let go, but the girl pressed closer again, wrapping her arms around Su Mi’s waist and even leaning dependently into the crook of her shoulder.
At this moment, Lin Nanyue was like a clingy puppy again.
Su Mi pinched the back of her neck and said in a low voice, “Stop moving around.”
Lin Nanyue stayed quiet for a while, but it wasn’t long before she made a small movement. Her smooth, long hair brushed against Su Mi’s arm, feeling slightly cool.
“What is it?” Su Mi opened her eyes, looking at the restless person in her arms.
Lin Nanyue struggled to lift her head, using the faint night light to find her position. She took Su Mi’s finger and pressed it against her own lips, whispering in a breathy voice: “Where is my goodnight kiss?”
The finger Su Mi had on her lips pressed down slightly. Then, in the darkness, she lowered her head and pressed a gentle kiss onto the soft lips.
Lin Nanyue wanted more, but she heard Su Mi say, half-calmly and half-threateningly: “Any more and you won’t be sleeping at all.”
