- Chapter 52 - The Cold Professor X The Obedient Beauty
The dim room was only illuminated by a sliver of moonlight filtering through the window. Su Mi’s hand still gripped Lin Nanyue’s icy wrist, her fingertips pressed against the inner pulse point, sensing the rhythmic thrum of life beneath the skin.
The breathing of the two women, one hurried, one slow, was clearly audible amidst the muffled sound of the rain outside.
After an indefinite amount of time, the lips pressed against Su Mi’s slowly retreated. The compressed flesh gradually regained its original shape, lingering with a hint of reluctance until the cold, damp air once again occupied the space between them.
A trace of moisture remained on Su Mi’s lips, likely rainwater from the other woman. She felt a sudden urge to lick it away but restrained herself.
Lin Nanyue’s tip-toed stance slowly lowered. Her eyelids were half-drooped, and her slightly parted lips glowed with a decadent, crimson hue. One of her hands still clutched tightly onto Su Mi’s collar.
“Professor Su, do you… like girls?” Her voice was very soft, like something that might easily be lost in the depths of the night.
Su Mi could feel the collar of her shirt tightening, a testament to the anxiety and tension of the person asking the question. She leaned the back of her head against the wall and gave a faint, calm “Mm” in response.
In the shadows, she saw Lin Nanyue’s long lashes tremble slightly before slowly lifting, revealing dark, bright eyes that reflected a faint glimmer of light.
Lin Nanyue’s lips moved as if she wanted to say something, but a cold drop of rain slid down her chin and splashed onto the back of Su Mi’s hand. Su Mi watched her quietly, neither rushing her nor asking questions.
Lin Nanyue blinked and took two deep breaths, seemingly summoning all her courage.
“Then do you…” She pursed her lips and swallowed, her voice trembling at the end, “…do you like me?”
Su Mi, who had been leaning against the wall with a relaxed air, narrowed her eyes. She straightened up and leaned in slightly toward Lin Nanyue. The latter became visibly more nervous but remained rooted to the spot, not retreating a single step.
Su Mi’s slender palm cupped Lin Nanyue’s jaw, tilting it upward. Without the barrier of her glasses, her eyes gazed directly into the other’s.
Lin Nanyue’s upturned face was flushed, her eyes misted with a watery red hue, and her voice carried a pitiful, fragile nasal quality: “…Do you like me?”
Su Mi leaned closer and gave another soft “Mm,” her lowered voice sounding somewhat husky. “I like you.”
Upon hearing the answer, the moisture in Lin Nanyue’s eyes seemed to increase. Her grip on Su Mi’s collar pulled downward slightly.
“I like you too…”
There was an urgent need for affirmation in her words, as if she were afraid the “like” Su Mi spoke of would suddenly vanish.
Su Mi’s gaze fell upon those slightly parted red lips, they were like a flower bud waiting to be plucked, moistened by rain, appearing delicious and inviting. She brushed her cool fingertip over them, and after feeling the other’s intent to draw closer, she moved her finger and covered them with her own lips.
The initial contact was cold. The soft lips touched and parted. Su Mi kissed her with light, delicate taps, arriving slowly and steadily.
Lin Nanyue closed her eyes and unconsciously tilted her face up, trying to mimic and chase after the other woman’s actions. Su Mi lightly bit her lip, but just as Lin Nanyue tried to follow the sensation, Su Mi pulled back.
After several repetitions of this, the inexperienced Lin Nanyue grew anxious. She let out a small hum from her nose, tilting her head back for more, until her entire body was pressed against Su Mi’s chest.
The two soft bodies leaned into each other, communicating their damp, burning body heat to one another.
Unable to land a proper kiss, Lin Nanyue finally opened her eyes and complained aggrievedly, “Don’t… don’t do that…” She didn’t know how else to express her desire.
Su Mi playfully rubbed her nose against the other’s, her lips grazing the other’s purposefully or unintentionally. “Don’t do what?”
“Don’t make it so…” Lin Nanyue looked at her lips with dissatisfaction, then looked up into her eyes, “…so that I can’t kiss you.”
Su Mi laughed silently, her cold features softened by a smile that seemed filled with a slight sense of satisfaction. She leaned in and kissed her lips properly this time, not pulling away immediately.
Lin Nanyue was prepared to continue, but she found the other woman pulling away again. She grew frantic: “Why are you…”
Before she could finish, she felt her body go light. In a swift, graceful movement, their positions were swapped. Now, Lin Nanyue’s back was against the hard wall, and her neck was forced into a slight arch.
Su Mi cupped her face and took her lips, using a wet tongue to sweep across the seam of her lips before venturing inside to touch another slick, soft presence. Her fingers at the side of Lin Nanyue’s face were restless, stroking a soft earlobe and gently kneading it until it turned a deep, blood-rich red.
Su Mi felt arms wrap lightly around her shoulders, and the lips beneath hers began to respond shyly. This raw, unreserved response stimulated Su Mi, prompting her to deepen and prolong the kiss.
Pressed against the wall, the flush on Lin Nanyue’s face deepened. Her limbs grew weak as she leaned into Su Mi, her breathing becoming rapid and chaotic as a tingling, numbing itch crawled across her heart.
Her soft lips were sometimes heavily ground against, sometimes sucked and soothed. Trails of moisture escaped the corners of her mouth. Su Mi unconsciously pushed closer until the other woman let out a trembling sound, half-pleasure, half-joy.
When Su Mi’s palm landed on her waist and touched a patch of smooth skin, the person beneath her tensed for a moment.
The string in Su Mi’s brain labeled “reason” suddenly reconnected. She slowly stopped her movements, withdrawing her hand from the waist to hold the side of Lin Nanyue’s now-warm neck. Her thumb brushed across the clear line of the jaw, acting as both a comfort and a way to steady herself.
Su Mi gave one final kiss to the corner of her mouth.
Lin Nanyue opened her eyes to look at her, her dark pupils shone with an intense, gorgeous luster.
“Did I scare you?” Su Mi’s voice was terrifyingly hoarse, and her breathing was uneven.
Lin Nanyue slowly shook her head and pursed her lips as if savoring the moment, her eyelashes fluttering. In truth, she found it very comfortable and liked it very much.
The rain outside showed no signs of letting up. A wind had likely picked up, causing the rain to drum loudly against the windowpane.
As their breathing evened out, the heat in their bodies began to fade. Lin Nanyue gave a slight shiver.
Noticing this, Su Mi turned on the light and picked her up. Ignoring the fact that she was still wet, she placed her on the bed and made her sit upright. The dry towels and bath towels she had taken out earlier were still by the bed. She grabbed a towel and began drying Lin Nanyue’s neck and wet, long hair.
Lin Nanyue sat there quietly, letting Su Mi dry her. She looked up when told to look up and bowed her head when told to bow her head, just like an obedient baby.
“Did you cry in secret?” Su Mi’s thumb brushed against the slightly red corner of her eye.
Lin Nanyue blinked and pursed her lips, staying silent.
Su Mi asked again: “It was raining so hard outside. How did you find me?”
She calculated the time Lin Nanyue must have taken to find her, it seemed she had started chasing almost immediately after Su Mi left. Because she was unfamiliar with the area, Su Mi had wandered randomly before picking this clean-looking shop to stay in.
Lin Nanyue looked up at her and whispered, “I asked at several shops.”
She had regretted it shortly after leaving. When she rushed back, the Professor was already gone. Fortunately, the road layout wasn’t complex, only two main streets. It wasn’t hard to find her, but a torrential downpour had started halfway through. She didn’t have an umbrella and refused to take cover, which was why she was soaked.
A hint of a smile appeared in Su Mi’s eyes. “The landlady just gave my guest information to you like that?”
“No!” Lin Nanyue retorted, then looked a bit embarrassed. “The landlady wasn’t at the front desk when I arrived. I… I used candy to bribe her daughter who was temporarily covering for her.”
Lin Nanyue’s voice grew softer as she spoke. This was a small place with few outsiders, so she only needed to provide a brief description to get the information she wanted. The child had a strong impression of Su Mi, so she immediately recognized who Lin Nanyue was talking about. A child’s world doesn’t have the complex rules of adult society. Lin Nanyue felt like she had played the role of a villainous child-enticer.
Su Mi listened, recalling a little girl of about six years old at the front desk, though she hadn’t paid her much attention at the time.
She frowned. “You shouldn’t have come out in such heavy rain. You could have just sent me a message.” She worried she would catch a cold or a fever.
Lin Nanyue shook her head, her tone firm: “I had to come.”
Su Mi looked at her, her eyes carrying a silent inquiry.
Lin Nanyue reached out to grab Su Mi’s sleeve, her fair, slender fingers twisting the fabric with a hint of insecurity. “I shouldn’t have shouted at you like that. I knew you were doing it for my own good, it’s just… I was a little scared at the time…”
Su Mi took her hand, interlacing their fingers. “Scared of what?”
Lin Nanyue raised her free hand and touched the still-reddened scratch on Su Mi’s neck, her breathing growing lighter.
“When I saw you get hurt, I was very scared.”
“Having you see such a messy and wretched side of my family… that also scared me.”
“I didn’t want you to see those things.”
Su Mi responded softly, asking, “Why didn’t you want me to see?”
Lin Nanyue lowered her gaze, biting her lower lip repeatedly until white teeth marks appeared. She was afraid these messy, filthy matters would make the Professor keep her distance. Or perhaps she was unwilling to expose her most unsightly side so unpreparedly, it made her feel helpless and ashamed.
“…I only wanted to show you my best side. I was afraid you would stay away from me because of these things.”
Su Mi stopped her from biting her lip, saying deeply, “Nanyue, no one is perfect. I won’t distance myself from you because of these things, and you certainly don’t need to feel inferior because of them. Besides, it was I who came uninvited today. I was also in the wrong.”
Lin Nanyue looked at her with tearful eyes, sniffing softly.
Su Mi asked her, “Perhaps in the future, you will discover a side of me that isn’t ‘good’ either. Will you distance yourself from me then?”
Lin Nanyue shook her head immediately. “No.”
It was unclear if she meant Su Mi couldn’t have a bad side, or if she wouldn’t leave if she did.
“Nanyue,” Su Mi suddenly called her name seriously, her voice low.
“Hmm?” Lin Nanyue met her eyes, becoming unconsciously nervous.
Su Mi rose from her semi-crouched position and leaned in, supporting herself on the bed next to her, leveling her eyes with the girl’s. “I want you to know that my feelings for you are not a joke. It’s the kind of love where I want to spend the rest of my life with you. If you are willing to accept, then I will never let you leave in this lifetime. Do you understand?”
Lin Nanyue felt a faint pressure emanating from Su Mi. Her heart skipped a beat, and she nodded heavily while biting her lip.
Su Mi retracted that intensity and reached out to stroke her brow. “So, your business is my business. In the future, you don’t need to push me away or hide from me. Understood?”
“Understood.”
After a while, Lin Nanyue suddenly said, “Do you think I’m very stupid? Even though they treated me like that, I still rushed back in a panic just because of a phone call from my mother.”
Su Mi didn’t answer directly. After a moment of silence, she asked, “Is there a reason?”
Lin Nanyue nodded, her fingers moving slightly within Su Mi’s grip.
“When I was three years old, I got very sick. At that time, my family felt that a daughter was a burden anyway and didn’t want to pay for my treatment,” Lin Nanyue said. “But my mother couldn’t bear to let go of the daughter she carried for ten months. She begged people to borrow money and took me to get treatment all by herself. My health was poor and I couldn’t be left alone, so she took me to work with her, occasionally leaving me with my grandmother… slowly, bit by bit, she kept me alive.”
“I know that in her heart, her son and her husband are her world. But she didn’t give up on me back then, so I can’t abandon the debt of her giving me life and raising me.”
In that family, the person she found hardest to let go of was undoubtedly her mother. Lin Nanyue pulled her lips into a self-mocking smile. “I can’t love her completely, but I can’t hate her completely either.”
This relationship was cluttered with too many things to be summarized in a single sentence.
“I’m sorry. I thought of it too simply.”
In Su Mi’s eyes, the eyes of an outsider, it was a black and white matter of cutting ties. For Lin Nanyue, it was a complex web that was difficult to unravel.
“But there’s no rush with these things. We’ll take it slow.”
Her family issues had existed for a long time, they couldn’t be solved overnight. The fact that Lin Nanyue was willing to speak to her about it was already a huge step forward.
Su Mi’s gaze shifted downward to her soaked outer clothing. She had been so caught up in talking that she had forgotten. She reached out and touched the clothes at Lin Nanyue’s waist and stomach, they were cold and wet. She knit her brows. “Your clothes are soaked through. Aren’t you cold? Quickly, take them off and go take a hot shower.”
Lin Nanyue let out a small “Ah” and looked around the room. “But there probably aren’t any clothes to change into here.”
“I asked the landlady to help me buy some,” Su Mi said as she also began to unbutton her own shirt. Having held the girl for so long, her own clothes were also quite damp and uncomfortable against her skin.
Lin Nanyue hadn’t expected the other woman to start undressing right in front of her. For a moment, she didn’t know where to look.
Su Mi didn’t think much of it. In fact, she was long accustomed to undressing in front of the other woman, she had simply forgotten that Lin Nanyue didn’t have those previous memories.
Lin Nanyue looked away and suggested, “Per-perhaps… we could do what we did just now, then it wouldn’t be cold…”
Su Mi had already unbuttoned four buttons, revealing the matching camisole underneath. Hearing this, she looked at her. “Hmm?”
Standing under the light, her expression was calm and her gaze cool, nothing like the lingering tenderness of a moment ago.
Lin Nanyue took a deep breath, reached out, and tugged at Su Mi’s hem. The latter obediently leaned down, her eyes filled with a bit of confusion.
“Just… just like that,” Lin Nanyue’s eyes flickered, as if all her courage had been used up earlier.
But Su Mi’s comprehension was high. She quickly understood the meaning. As Lin Nanyue tilted her chin up to get close, Su Mi pulled back just slightly.
Looking at the Lin Nanyue who was now proactively seeking intimacy, Su Mi narrowed her eyes and began to recall some old scores.
“Why did you avoid me that time before?”
