- Chapter 40 - The Aloof Professor X The Obedient Beauty
After being pulled away by Su Mi, the girl lowered her head and swayed unsteadily. Then, she slightly lifted her face, seemingly trying hard to process the words she had just heard.
Looking at her upturned face, Su Mi froze for a moment.
There was a hint of familiarity in the contours of her features, but upon closer inspection, one could see they weren’t actually the same.
Su Mi couldn’t resist reaching out to touch the other’s brows and eyes. “You…”
While Su Mi was distracted by her face, her hand was tightly gripped by the young girl. The girl’s eyes were hazy, and she spoke slurringly, “Sister… I’m sorry about tonight, I, I…”
Mid-sentence, the girl’s brows suddenly knit together. She pressed her palm against her chest, looking extremely distressed.
Su Mi’s eyelid flickered, and the cloud of doubt in her heart instantly vanished. Without a second thought, she led the girl into the bathroom.
After bringing her inside, Su Mi intended to leave, but the hem of her bathrobe was gripped tightly by the girl. No matter how she pulled, she couldn’t break free.
It was Su Mi’s first time realizing that a drunk person could possess such immense strength. She could only take a deep breath, close her eyes, and stand there listening to the other’s heart-wrenching sounds of dry heaving.
During the wait, she asked the system when it would finish sending all the original host’s memory data. She desperately needed to know what exactly was going on, but the only response she received was to “wait a moment.”
Su Mi endured the wait until it was over. When the girl stood up, she was so light-headed that she collapsed against Su Mi, later clamoring that she needed to brush her teeth and rinse her mouth.
Thus, Su Mi patiently led her to the sink, only to find no toiletries on the counter. After rummaging around, she found disposable toiletries in a drawer below, embossed with the hotel’s emblem.
“What’s wrong, Sister?” The girl noticed her sudden pause and approached her innocently.
Su Mi looked up at her, her eyes filled with hesitation. What kind of person would the “original host” bring back to a hotel?
She didn’t quite dare to follow that line of thought to its conclusion.
Feigning composure, Su Mi tore open the packaging and handed the items to the girl. She intended to turn and leave, but realized the girl couldn’t stand on her own at all, she had to lean half-weight against Su Mi. Consequently, Su Mi was forced to stay.
With her eyes half-closed, the girl brushed her teeth while mumbling polite words: “Thank you, Sister. I’ll be quick, please wait for me.”
Meanwhile, Su Mi stood aside with a cold face, her voice carrying a chill: “What is your name, and why are you… here with me?”
Since the system was taking its time, she figured she might as well ask the girl directly.
Hearing the question, the girl stopped brushing and froze, as if trying to recall something. Then, she answered with a serious face: “I am a fairy. I accidentally got lost and was picked up by Sister.”
After saying this, she even flashed a smile at Su Mi, causing the faint little mole on the tip of her nose to move along with her expression.
Su Mi: “…”
She shouldn’t have asked.
After much tossing and turning, Su Mi finally managed to get the girl onto the bed outside. As soon as the girl touched the soft mattress, she rolled over to the inner side, even politely inviting Su Mi to lie down with her.
Fortunately, after saying those words, she went silent, seemingly having fallen asleep.
Having finally caught a breath, Su Mi sat by the bed and let out a sigh. She took off her glasses and rubbed her aching eyes. Looking down, she noticed her bathrobe had become loose and messy from the earlier scuffle, revealing a large area of skin at her collar. With an unpleasant expression, she pulled it closed again. Habitually, she reached to touch the plain ring on her ring finger, only to find it missing.
Her fingertips paused momentarily, then, as if nothing had happened, she put her glasses back on. Now, she finally had the time to observe her surroundings. This place looked more like a temporary stay, there weren’t many personal belongings in the room.
There was a phone on the nightstand. She picked it up and successfully unlocked it. First, she checked the contact list, after browsing through a few entries and finding nothing unusual, she also failed to find anyone who seemed to be the girl lying on the bed.
Su Mi glanced back at the girl, then stood up and left the room. Upon exiting, she realized this was a suite, and there was a living room outside. A small bag was sitting on the sofa.
However, seeing the cute little charms hanging on it, it likely didn’t belong to her.
She sat down on the available space on the sofa and began browsing her own phone, trying to find some useful information.
Just a few minutes into her search, a ringtone suddenly sounded in the room, coming from inside that bag.
Su Mi hesitated whether to pick it up, but the ringing was persistent. She reached out and took the phone out of the bag, the screen only displayed the label “Senior”.
Holding the phone, she returned to the bedroom. The person on the bed seemed to be sleeping soundly. She leaned over, attempting to wake her up.
Unexpectedly, the girl suddenly rolled over, ending up beneath Su Mi. Her collar was slightly askew, and as she turned her face, her fair neck and shoulder were exposed, with her long hair scattered messily across the pillow.
Su Mi had only casually dried her hair earlier. As she leaned down, a few strands of damp hair slid forward, and several drops of cold water dripped from the ends, landing precisely on the neck of the person below.
The girl jolted from the cold, her neck and shoulders shrinking slightly. Her trembling eyelashes slowly opened, her gaze lacking focus.
“Your phone.” Su Mi held the phone before her eyes, but the girl’s gaze landed vacantly on the hand holding the device.
“So pretty…” the girl murmured, reaching out her hand.
Su Mi thought she was reaching for the phone, so the moment the girl touched it, Su Mi let go. The phone slipped between their palms and…thud…hit the girl right on the bridge of her nose before falling onto the pillow.
This turn of events stunned both of them. For a moment, no one cared about the phone that was still ringing incessantly beside them.
The girl seemed dazed from the impact. Her eyes widened, and tears quickly gathered as a red mark appeared where she had been hit.
Su Mi pursed her lips, a trace of apology appearing in her eyes. “Sorry. How… how do you feel?”
“It hurts.” Her voice carried a hint of a sob. Tears brimmed in her eyes but didn’t fall.
Su Mi figured this was her mistake. She reached out to touch the reddened bridge of the girl’s nose to check for injury. Her fingertip felt the firm bone of the high nose bridge, she didn’t dare use too much force, only pressing lightly. She heard the girl let out a faint whimper.
Frowning slightly, she asked, “Does it hurt a lot?”
The girl paused, then shook her head, looking exceptionally obedient. “Just a little bit now.”
When Su Mi looked down at her, she was momentarily dazed. The hazy light from the bedside lamp hit the girl’s face, blurring the edges of her features. For a second, she thought she had seen “her” again…
She collected her thoughts and sat up straight. Her gaze fell on the phone to the side. Just as she went to pick it up, the ringing stopped.
What a waste of effort.
In that short span of time, the person on the bed couldn’t help but doze off again, her eyes fluttering shut and her eyelids appearing slightly red.
Seeing her asleep, Su Mi intended to get up and leave. But just as she stood up, a dull pain throbbed in her mind. Her vision went black, and she lost awareness of the outside world.
Immediately following this, countless chaotic and unfamiliar memories flooded her mind, surging all at once and leaving her no room to worry about anything else.
Su Mi remained in this blurred, dizzy state until she finished receiving all the remaining data. She sifted through the cluttered memories, extracting the information she wanted, and finally learned the truth.
It turned out that “Su Mi” had quietly returned to the country a few days ago, informing only a few of her closest associates. Today, she had gone out with friends and checked into a nearby hotel because it was late. She hadn’t expected to encounter this delirious girl in the hallway outside her room.
While the girl was still somewhat lucid, she had deathly gripped Su Mi’s hand, pleading for help.
Su Mi had seen a man following not far behind who appeared hesitant to approach upon seeing Su Mi. She originally intended to inform the front desk to call the police, but before she could act, the girl threw up all over her.
Unable to bear the smell of alcohol, Su Mi chose to bring the person into her room first so she could wash off the scent before planning to have the front desk take the girl away.
What followed were the events that occurred after Su Mi’s arrival in this world.
Upon realizing she had no “special” relationship with the girl, Su Mi breathed a sudden sigh of relief.
Her head still hurt intensely, as if a nerve were being pulled. She lifted her head slightly and shook it, trying to clear her mind, only to realize she was leaning over a soft, warm body.
Su Mi propped herself up with her hands. She saw that the clothes on the person beneath her were stained with water marks from her hair, becoming slightly translucent. She looked away, pulled a few tissues from the box on the nightstand, and carefully blotted the water while the other person slept on, oblivious.
After finishing, Su Mi looked up. The girl’s face came into view again, matching the face in the new character files provided by the system.
The female lead, Lin Nanyue.
Today, Lin Nanyue had been brought out by the male lead to attend a business dinner. Midway through, the male lead received a phone call and had to leave early, leaving the female lead and a male colleague to continue the social engagement. Seeing how beautiful Lin Nanyue was, the colleague harbored ill intentions. The honest Lin Nanyue hadn’t noticed his hidden motives, only thinking about helping the male lead secure the deal so as not to fail the salary she was being paid.
In the original plot, after Su Mi finished her shower, she indeed informed the front desk. The front desk called the police, and the male lead arrived to take her away.
As Su Mi reminisced, Lin Nanyue’s phone, which had been dropped aside, suddenly rang again.
Su Mi glanced at the caller ID; it was still “Senior.” Suddenly, she found the ringtone quite grating. A “Senior” calling at this hour was likely the male lead.
Hearing the ringtone, Lin Nanyue frowned slightly, as if about to wake up.
Su Mi took the phone and unhesitatingly pressed “Decline.” The ringing stopped abruptly, and the sleeping Lin Nanyue’s brow gradually relaxed.
However, as if the act of hanging up had provoked the other party, the ringing paused for a second before starting up again frantically. Su Mi thought about turning it off but feared it might be a call from other friends or family.
So, Su Mi took the vibrating phone out of the room. The moment she closed the door behind her, she answered the call.
Before she could speak, the man’s accusations came flooding through.
“Where are you? Why aren’t you answering my calls? You even just hung up!” The man’s tone carried a hint of impatient irritation.
Su Mi’s brows knit tightly, and she moved the phone a bit further away.
“Why aren’t you saying anything?!”
Su Mi: “Has no one ever taught you how to speak properly?”
The other side went silent for a moment upon hearing Su Mi’s voice. Then, with an unfriendly tone, he asked, “Who are you? Where is she?”
Su Mi tapped her finger on the back of the phone as if deep in thought. The next moment, those beautiful eyes lifted slightly, and her voice was cold and indifferent.
“I am her sister.”
