Accidentally Becoming a Green Tea Goddess Everyone Loves - Chapter 3
Having exchanged names with Lu Yanwei, Shen Shirou decided to strike while the iron was hot. She borrowed a pen from the bartender and scribbled her contact information on a sticky note. “Luckily I had you, otherwise I’m afraid I wouldn’t have been able to shake him off so easily.”
Shen Shirou peeled off the note and pressed it into Lu Yanwei’s hand. “This is my number. As a thank you, if you ever run into any trouble or need anything, feel free to contact me anytime.”
Lu Yanwei waved her hand in refusal. “There’s really no need.”
To Lu Yanwei, it had been a simple gesture. Even if she and Shen Shirou were total strangers, she wouldn’t have stood by and watched her be harassed.
Shen Shirou placed a finger to her lips in a “shush” motion. “If you don’t want to use it for that, just keep it so we can be friends. How about it?”
“I have something to attend to, so I have to head out first. See you next time!” Without giving Lu Yanwei a chance to object, Shen Shirou turned and vanished into the crowded bar like a puff of smoke.
Lu Yanwei looked down at the note in her hand. At the end of the long string of numbers, the character “Rou” was written in elegant, flowing script.
Back at the Jiang Villa, after performing the “Heroine Saves the Beauty” act, Shen Shirou had already showered and changed into a nightgown. Normally, she would have been asleep by now, but the meeting with Lu Yanwei had kept her up late.
As she sat in the living room, waves of sleepiness began to wash over her. Just as she stood up to head to her bedroom, she heard movement at the entrance.
No way. Jiang Peixing is actually coming home at this hour?
Shen Shirou turned around and, as expected, spotted Jiang Peixing’s silhouette near the door. She sighed inwardly; it looked like sleep would have to wait. She had to clock in for some overtime as Sister Jiang’s little “Green Tea.”
Shen Shirou stood up, poured a glass of water, and met Jiang Peixing’s icy gaze with a face full of feigned surprise and joy. “Sister Jiang, you’re back!”
“I’ve been waiting so long for you. I thought you weren’t coming home again today.”
“You’ve been away for so long, the company must be incredibly busy.” Shen Shirou held the glass out to Jiang Peixing, her voice gentle. “Are you thirsty, Sister? Would you like some water?”
Jiang Peixing’s eyes were dark, her gaze lingering on Shen Shirou for only a fraction of a second. She frowned, her attitude remaining freezing cold. “Mind your own business.”
Without reaching for the glass, Jiang Peixing dropped those cold words and headed straight to her room.
【Shen Shirou lamented to System 888 in her mind: “Fortunately, our President Jiang despises this ‘Green Tea’ act so much she won’t even let me finish a sentence. Not bad, I can go to bed early after all.”】
【System 888: “?”】
Normally, Shen Shirou might have knocked on the door again like last time, but she was exhausted. She decided not to waste any more energy being snubbed and retreated to her own room.
Though they lived together, they did not share a bedroom. In fact, Shen Shirou’s room was the one furthest away from Jiang Peixing’s in the entire villa. Naturally, she hadn’t chosen it herself; Rong Yuan had arranged it the day she moved in, undoubtedly on Jiang Peixing’s orders.
After a night of peaceful dreams, Shen Shirou woke up at 8:30 the next morning. It’s so late, Jiang Peixing must have left for the office already, she thought.
With that in mind, she went to the kitchen and unwrapped some bread she’d bought a few days ago, intending to make herself a sandwich. Just then, the door to Jiang Peixing’s bedroom swung open with a sharp thud.
The villa was quiet, so the sound reached Shen Shirou’s ears with perfect clarity. Seeing the owner of the villa walk out, Shen Shirou froze.
Jiang Peixing didn’t leave?
Could someone like her, who lived only for work, actually be late? But seeing Jiang Peixing’s unhurried pace and composed expression, Shen Shirou quickly dismissed the thought.
【Shen Shirou couldn’t help but ask: “Babe, why is Jiang Peixing still here?”】
【System 888 countered: “Does being a CEO mean you have to work 24/7?”】
Shen Shirou pulled out her phone to check the date. Oh, it’s the weekend. Never mind then.
She took the sandwich she had intended for one and split it into two portions. Recalling how her advances were met with a cold shoulder the night before, she silently placed the sandwiches on a plate and set it on the dining table. After a moment’s thought, she left a note beside it.
“Sister Jiang, we’re out of ingredients in the fridge. This is a sandwich I made myself. I’m not sure how my cooking is, so please bear with it for now. I’ll remember to prepare ahead next time and make something you like.”
At the end, fearing the effect wouldn’t be dramatic enough, she added a little hand-drawn heart. She tucked the note under the plate, right in the conspicuous center of the table. Once finished, she grabbed her own portion and scurried back to her room.
She really was a well-behaved, sensible Green Tea.
A few hours later, when Shen Shirou returned to the dining room, the sandwich was still sitting there, completely untouched. The note, however, was gone.
Jiang Peixing hadn’t even nudged her “loving breakfast.”
Shen Shirou wasn’t surprised. A moment later, she spotted a familiar crumpled ball of paper lying lonely in the trash bin. Well, at least I can confirm she saw it.
It seemed like a mercy that the President hadn’t tossed the sandwich into the trash along with the note. Shen Shirou shrugged and, operating on the principle that good food shouldn’t go to waste, finished the sandwich herself.
【Shen Shirou chatted with System 888: “Sweetie, if this keeps up, do you think I’ll be the next thing Jiang Peixing throws into the trash?”】
【System 888: “Based on my analysis, that possibility cannot be ruled out.”】
【Shen Shirou asked again: “What if I break off the engagement early? What happens if I don’t follow the original plot’s timeline?”】
【System 888: “You’ll be forced into a ‘rewind’ to start over. I suggest you stay in your lane and don’t try anything reckless.”】
Shen Shirou grew thoughtful. System 888 had told her the novel made it clear: Jiang Peixing would officially break the engagement in three months and then fall for Lu Yanwei. In that case, she just had to endure these three months.
For the rest of the day, Shen Shirou wandered around but couldn’t find Jiang Peixing. Is she hiding from me?
She searched the house room by room and eventually reached the study. The door was slightly ajar. Pushing it open, she saw Jiang Peixing at the desk.
Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminating her pale profile. Jiang Peixing was leaning against the desk, eyes closed, her long lashes casting soft shadows. She had fallen asleep.
The sleeping Jiang Peixing looked like a melting snow-capped mountain—the icy distance was gone, and for a brief moment, she felt much more approachable.
Shen Shirou lightened her footsteps to avoid waking her. Walking to the desk, her eyes flickered over the documents tucked under Jiang Peixing’s arm. Even on the weekend, she was buried in work. Shen Shirou fetched a jacket, returned to the study, and gently draped it over Jiang Peixing’s shoulders.
Soon after, a familiar guest arrived at the villa.
When the doorbell rang, Shen Shirou was surprised to see the visitor. “Rong Yuan? What are you doing here?”
“Sorry to disturb you,” Rong Yuan nodded to her. “Is President Jiang in?”
“Sister Jiang is asleep,” Shen Shirou replied. “Do you need her for something?”
Rong Yuan explained, “President Jiang asked me to deliver some company files.” She pulled out a thick document envelope.
“Does Sister Jiang have this much to handle even on the weekend?” Shen Shirou asked. “Are they very urgent files?”
Rong Yuan hesitated for a second, then shook her head. “Just some minor company matters.”
She explained, “However, President Jiang is meticulous and prefers to handle everything personally, which is why she asked me to deliver them.”
“Could I pass them to Sister Jiang for you?” Shen Shirou hesitated, her brow furrowed with concern for Jiang Peixing. “She seems exhausted; she fell asleep at her desk in the study.”
“Of course,” Rong Yuan replied. “I’ll leave it to you then, Miss Shen.”
Taking the document envelope, Shen Shirou offered a small smile. “Didn’t I say last time? You can just call me Shirou.”
“Right.” Rong Yuan paused, her gaze drifting toward Shen Shirou. The moment their eyes met, she quickly looked down. “The tea you brewed last time, it was very good.”
“Really?” Shen Shirou blinked. “You’re the first person to ever compliment me like that.”
Meeting Shen Shirou’s clear, bright smile, a hint of warmth involuntarily touched Rong Yuan’s eyes.
In the study, Jiang Peixing’s brow twitched and her eyelashes fluttered a few times before she slowly opened her eyes. As she straightened up, the jacket slid from her shoulders.
Waking fresh from a dream, her reactions were still a bit sluggish. She stared at the jacket not knowing where it had come from before leaning over to pick it up.
“You’re awake, Sister.”
A melodic female voice rang out.
Jiang Peixing turned her head and met Shen Shirou’s gaze. She lifted the jacket slightly in her hand. “Yours?”
Shen Shirou nodded. “I saw you were asleep and was worried you’d catch a cold, so I brought it for you.”
“Rong Yuan stopped by just now. She said these were the files you asked for.” As she spoke, Shen Shirou placed the document envelope on the desk.
“Where is Rong Yuan?” Jiang Peixing asked, her voice low.
“I saw how tired you looked and didn’t want her to wake you, so I told her she could head out and that I’d hand the files over to you personally.”
“I know I took liberties again. If you’re angry, Sister, you can blame me as much as you like.” Shen Shirou hesitated for a moment before adding, “But please, don’t keep staying up late for work every day.”
“It breaks my heart to see you like this.”
