Accidentally Becoming a Green Tea Goddess Everyone Loves - Chapter 2
The woman’s eyes were deep, like bottomless lakes.
Under the artificial light, her gaze remained frosty. Her expressionless face betrayed not a hint of emotion. For a moment, the atmosphere felt frozen.
Shen Shirou opened her mouth to speak, but the woman simply turned and brushed past her with total indifference, walking toward the bedroom at an unhurried pace. She didn’t grant Shen Shirou so much as a fleeting glance.
Left standing there, Shen Shirou felt her suspicions confirmed. It seemed she hadn’t misidentified her.
Entering and leaving this villa so freely while treating her with such icy disdain, this person had to be her estranged fiancée, Jiang Peixing.
Shen Shirou couldn’t help but feel a pang of regret. Why did Jiang Peixing have to come back now? Otherwise, she could have finished her dinner in peace and taken her time with a facial mask to enjoy a bit of refined living.
But as a professional “Green Tea,” she had to uphold her responsibilities.
Despite being completely ignored, Shen Shirou wasn’t angry. She took a deep breath and summoned System 888 in her mind.
【The ever-diligent System 888 responded almost instantly: “I’m here. What do you need?”】
【Shen Shirou asked: “Sweetie, could you provide a Band-Aid as a professional courtesy?”】
【System 888 sputtered after a long pause: “I am a Green Tea System, not a pharmacy.”】
【Shen Shirou coaxed it gently: “It’s an emergency, and I need it right now, so I can only rely on you. Sweetie, I know you can handle a little thing like this, right?”】
Shen Shirou heard System 888 give a cold huff. A second later, a Band-Aid materialized in her hand.
【Shen Shirou smiled: “Thanks, babe. Love you tons today.”】
Unwrapping the Band-Aid, she carefully applied it to her perfectly healthy index finger.
OK. Props are ready. Time for the show.
Shen Shirou picked up the bowl of noodles she hadn’t yet touched from the kitchen. After taking two seconds to brew the right emotions, she walked to Jiang Peixing’s bedroom and knocked gently.
“Sister Jiang?”
No response.
After waiting a moment, she knocked again. The closed door remained silent. It wasn’t until she knocked for the third time with tireless persistence that the door finally swung open with a thud.
The sight of Jiang Peixing, wrapped in a bathrobe, hit Shen Shirou’s field of vision.
Jiang Peixing stared at her, her long, thick eyelashes casting fan-like shadows over her eyes. “Something the matter?”
This was the first time Jiang Peixing had spoken. Her voice matched her persona—distant, clean, and cold like mountain snow, yet unexpectedly pleasant to the ear.
Shen Shirou noticed that the dark hair around Jiang Peixing’s ears was still dry. There were no droplets of water on the pale skin of her neck beneath the robe. It looked like she was just about to shower.
“Sister Jiang, have you had dinner yet?” Shen Shirou looked down, her voice laced with nervous hesitation. “I cooked some noodles. If you don’t mind.”
“What is it you want?” Jiang Peixing’s flat voice cut her off.
Jiang Peixing looked her up and down. “The shares the Jiang family gave you, were they not enough?”
Shen Shirou froze, as if taking a long time to process the accusation. Finally, gathering her courage, she said, “Sister Jiang, you’ve misunderstood.”
“I don’t care about any of that.” Shen Shirou glanced at Jiang Peixing out of the corner of her eye. “I only want you to be happy, Sister.”
Like a child who had done something wrong, she lowered her head and explained softly, “I heard from Rong Yuan that your work has been very busy. I was just worried you weren’t taking care of yourself, so.”
“Unnecessary.” Jiang Peixing’s brows knitted slightly. Her gaze was scrutinizing, as if trying to see right through her.
After a quick glance at the noodles, Jiang Peixing’s eyes finally landed on the conspicuous, brand-new Band-Aid on Shen Shirou’s fair finger.
Shen Shirou’s voice grew slightly hoarse as she mumbled, “I’m sorry. Did I do something pointless again?”
“Forget it this time,” Jiang Peixing’s voice sounded beside her ear. “Put it on the table.”
Upon hearing the second half of the sentence, the gloom on Shen Shirou’s face vanished. She nodded eagerly, her eyes lighting up instantly. “Okay! Remember to eat it while it’s hot, Sister.”
“You can go now.” Jiang Peixing leaned against the doorframe, watching her set the bowl down. Her face remained stoic, but internally she sneered, waiting for Shen Shirou to show her true colors and demand more assets.
But that moment never came.
Shen Shirou didn’t linger as Jiang Peixing expected. Before leaving, she simply tilted her head and whispered, “Goodnight, Sister.”
As she watched Shen Shirou’s retreating back, a flicker of something strange crossed Jiang Peixing’s eyes.
What exactly is Shen Shirou plotting now?
For the next five days, Shen Shirou didn’t see Jiang Peixing at all. When work got busy, Jiang Peixing stayed at the office overnight.
Shen Shirou suspected that being busy was only a secondary reason; the primary one was likely that Jiang Peixing simply didn’t want to see her.
With Jiang Peixing away, Shen Shirou’s life was incredibly comfortable. Unfortunately, the plot moves fast, and there was no stopping it.
That evening, System 888 appeared out of nowhere.
【”It’s almost time. Go get ready and stop playing Tetris.”】
【Shen Shirou was bewildered: “Ready for what?”】
【”Did I not tell you?” System 888 paused, then realized, “Oh, I’ve been busy binge-watching shows lately, I must have forgotten.”】
【Shen Shirou: “What is happening?”】
【”There’s a plot point involving you today,” System 888 said. “It’s time for you to go meet the novel’s female lead.”】
Lights flickered and crossed in the rowdy atmosphere of a bar, where the sound of an acoustic guitar was muffled by the crowd.
Amidst the people, Shen Shirou fixed her gaze on a graceful figure.
【Shen Shirou asked the system: “Is that the female lead I’m supposed to meet tonight, Lu Yanwei?”】
Receiving a positive confirmation, a plan began to form in Shen Shirou’s mind.
On the way to the bar, System 888 had rattled off everything she needed to know. She now knew that this female lead was the “fated partner” Jiang Peixing would meet later after breaking off the engagement.
Every flaw in Shen Shirou’s character existed solely to highlight the “true love” between this official couple.
Of course, for now, Lu Yanwei and Jiang Peixing were merely acquaintances. Lu Yanwei currently served as a director at Jiang Peixing’s company—a subordinate relationship.
However, any future interactions between them would likely be pushed forward by Shen Shirou herself.
In the original book, tonight’s events were supposed to unfold because “Shen Shirou” felt resentful after being neglected. Having heard that Jiang Peixing would be at a certain bar, she came to lie in wait.
She didn’t expect Jiang Peixing to return to the office due to a last-minute emergency.
“Shen Shirou” missed Jiang Peixing but happened to meet Lu Yanwei instead. Realizing Lu Yanwei’s identity, she decided to get close to her to fish for information about Jiang Peixing. Through these calculated interactions, the two eventually became “friends.”
Now, Shen Shirou had to follow the script and get to know the lead, Lu Yanwei.
However.
The part in the book where she first met Lu Yanwei was barely a footnote, lacking any detail.
Since the plot was a blank slate here, she decided she might as well improvise.
Lu Yanwei lowered her gaze, checking the watch on her wrist.
It was half-past nine.
Dressed in a formal business suit and sitting alone at the bar, she looked entirely out of place in the raucous atmosphere. A major project she had recently taken over had finally reached a milestone, and her colleagues had insisted on coming to a bar to celebrate. Unable to decline their enthusiastic invitations, Lu Yanwei had followed them here.
Unaccustomed to such settings, she had slipped away while her coworkers were busy drinking and chatting, finding a quiet corner to sit by herself. Occasionally, someone would approach to strike up a conversation, but she responded only with lukewarm politeness.
“Hey beautiful, you alone?” a man’s voice sounded nearby.
Lu Yanwei instinctively looked toward the source.
The speaker was a handsome man holding a colorful cocktail. However, a short distance away stood another graceful figure. Lu Yanwei quickly realized the man wasn’t talking to her, but to the unknown, beautiful woman standing beside her.
The man continued his persistent charm offensive. “Come on, gorgeous, do me the honor? Let me buy you a drink.”
The woman didn’t even spare him a glance. “I’m already meeting someone.”
Unconvinced, the man laughed and stepped forward to block her path.
“Didn’t I say I have a date?” The woman arched an eyebrow, her melodic voice tinged with clear displeasure. “Besides, I’m not interested in men. I’m here to find my girlfriend.”
As she spoke, her eyes swept toward Lu Yanwei and immediately lit up.
She waved at Lu Yanwei. “Darling, there you are! Traffic was a nightmare today; have you been waiting long?” As she spoke, she bypassed the man and hurried toward Lu Yanwei.
Lu Yanwei froze for a moment.
In that blink of an eye, the woman had already linked arms with her, pressing her soft, supple body against Lu Yanwei’s side. The woman looked into Lu Yanwei’s eyes with a clear, shimmering gaze. She leaned in close, whispering into Lu Yanwei’s ear, “Could you please help me out?” She blinked, her tone carrying a hint of pitiful vulnerability.
It was obvious: this beautiful stranger wanted to use her as a prop to get rid of the persistent harasser.
Understanding the situation, Lu Yanwei hesitated for a split second before giving a soft, “Mhm.”
The man, still unwilling to give up, stared at the two with lingering suspicion.
The woman flashed a bright smile and snuggled into Lu Yanwei’s arms like a spoiled child. “Darling, why are you so quiet? Are you mad at me?”
“How about I give you a kiss so you won’t be angry anymore, okay?” As she spoke, her red lips drew close, leaning in to plant a kiss on Lu Yanwei.
Seeing this, the man was finally convinced. His expression soured, the fake smile vanishing instantly as he turned and walked away, muttering curses under his breath.
Once the “kiss” ended and the man had disappeared into the distance, the woman finally pulled away the index finger she had placed between her lips and Lu Yanwei’s as a barrier.
A faint, lingering fragrance from the woman drifted into Lu Yanwei’s personal space. Thinking back to the proximity of the fake kiss, Lu Yanwei felt the tips of her ears turn a subtle shade of red.
Noticing Lu Yanwei’s awkwardness, the woman stepped back from the embrace and asked in a low voice, “I’m sorry, did I startle you?”
“My name is Shen Shirou. What’s yours?”
