- Chapter 27 - Feeling Her Way Through the Dark
Qiao Sanghe was nearly breathless from the kiss. She had no idea what had gotten into Yu Wanyin—why she was suddenly kissing her so fiercely, so desperately. The air was thick with the scent of her pheromones, making Qiao Sanghe feel lightheaded and weak.
She couldn’t see Yu Wanyin’s face clearly in the darkness, but the kiss was intense and focused—hungrily devouring her lips with a force she couldn’t resist.
Time seemed to stretch endlessly before the outside noises faded completely. Only then did Yu Wanyin finally let her go. Both women were gasping for breath, the sound loud and raw in the silence of the night. It took them a long while to recover.
Qiao Sanghe’s voice trembled slightly as she instinctively put some distance between them. Being so close made it impossible to control her racing heart or settle her emotions.
Yu Wanyin reached out to steady her. The two of them stepped out from the stall, only to find that the person outside had already left. Qiao Sanghe tried to shake off Yu Wanyin’s support, but suddenly heard her wince in pain, clutching her hand.
“What happened?” Qiao Sanghe asked with concern.
Yu Wanyin quickly withdrew her hand and brushed it off. “It’s nothing. Let’s just go.”
But Qiao Sanghe frowned and gently took her hand for a closer look. “Nothing? Let me see.”
Though the lighting was poor, she could make out a spot on her hand where skin had been broken—likely from Qiao Sanghe’s earlier biting. A trace of blood had oozed out, and guilt instantly swept over her. She had bitten too hard.
Yu Wanyin saw the worry in Qiao Sanghe’s eyes and felt a sweet warmth bloom in her chest. A bit of vulnerability really could win her sympathy. Still, she feigned nonchalance. “I’m fine. It doesn’t even hurt.”
Qiao Sanghe didn’t buy it. “It’s bleeding. How could it not hurt?” she murmured, clearly blaming herself. Her elegant brows furrowed slightly with regret.
“This is my fault.”
Yu Wanyin comforted her. “It’s really just a scratch. It’ll probably be healed in no time.”
It truly was minor. Yu Wanyin had suffered far worse growing up—especially during taekwondo training. At one point, she’d even been hospitalized for three days. This was nothing. What she wanted most now was to draw Qiao’s concern and tenderness.
Though Qiao Sanghe’s expression remained stoic, guilt lingered beneath the surface. She raised Yu Wanyin’s hand to her lips and kissed the wound gently, softly licking at it as if that could ease the pain.
Yu Wanyin’s fingers tingled from the contact. Her heart melted at Qiao Sanghe’s tenderness. It was the first time she had ever been treated with such care by her. Maybe the wound wasn’t such a bad thing after all.
Her lips were soft and warm, her scent sweet and intoxicating. When she kissed the wound, Yu Wanyin could feel the affection and gentleness behind it.
But this soft sensation only made her skin flush and her body grow hot. That small, delicate tongue—while licking her wound—carried an undercurrent of seductive intent. Her breathing, which had just calmed down, became erratic again as she struggled to keep herself composed.
“Does it still hurt?” Qiao Sanghe asked softly.
“It doesn’t. Really, it’s fine now.”
“I’ll get the first aid kit from the show crew in a bit.”
Not long after, the darkness around them suddenly lifted. The lights in the swimming complex flickered back on, signaling that the blackout period was over. Guests were now safe to move about freely again.
Qiao Sanghe went to the front desk to fetch a first aid kit. After disinfecting Yu Wanyin’s wound, she carefully applied a bandage. At that moment, a female contestant named Liu Chu came running down from the third floor, looking pale and flustered.
“Someone was chasing us in the dark,” Liu Chu said in a panic. “Qiqi said she’d distract the killer while I escaped. When I got back, I found her body lying in the stairwell. She has been eliminated. I’m the only one left from our group now.”
Both Qiao Sanghe and Yu Wanyin’s expressions darkened. The blackout had lasted two hours, and they themselves had barely escaped detection by the killer. They hadn’t expected someone to actually be eliminated.
“Did you see the killer? Any details or clues? We need to find out who it is before the next blackout. Otherwise, things could get worse.”
Now was not the time to panic. Staying calm was crucial. If no clues were found, all the contestants could end up being picked off one by one.
“I was too scared. I didn’t see the killer clearly. Can you come with me to the scene?”
Liu Chu felt uneasy. She had waited a long time for Hu Xueqi to return. When she finally went to look for her, she found a mannequin lying in the stairwell labeled with Hu Xueqi’s name. It indicated that she had been “eliminated.” Worse still, they had no clue who the killer was, which made their situation even more dire.
Qiao Sanghe and Yu Wanyin followed Liu Chu to the scene. The method of “elimination” matched that of the previous victim. However, it appeared that Hu Xueqi had put up a fight—there was a black button torn from the killer’s clothing.
“This must be from the killer’s shirt. If we can find the matching garment, we can identify who it belongs to.”
“Then we need to check who has been wearing black shirts. It looks like a plain black dress shirt. There’s also a faint smell of smoke, so the killer probably smokes. That helps narrow it down.”
Qiao Sanghe agreed. The clue by Hu Xueqi’s “body” was significant. It would help them tighten the suspect pool and move closer to the truth.
Yu Wanyin turned to Liu Chu. “Try not to panic. Let’s keep questioning the NPCs. I don’t think it’ll be long before we figure this out.”
Liu Chu nodded, though still a little shaken. She just hoped they could identify the killer before too many points were deducted from their group. Now that she was alone, it felt far more unsettling.

Qiao Sanghe and Yu Wanyin interviewed all the available NPCs in the swimming complex and mapped out the victims’ interactions with others. They were able to rule out the security guard, receptionist, and other staff, as their uniforms didn’t match the killer’s shirt and they weren’t permitted to smoke on duty. Strict clock-in systems further confirmed their alibis.
That left just two suspects: the swimming complex’s owner and a frequent customer.
The facility operated 24/7 and had no surveillance or entry records, so everything had to be deduced from physical evidence.
But before they could act, the second blackout period began. They still couldn’t make an arrest. They had to survive another two hours before getting a chance to close in on the truth.
Liu Chu looked anxious. “What if I can’t make it through these two hours?”
Qiao Sanghe said, “It might be safer if we split up. If we’re together, we’re an easier target. Just try to leave clues behind if you encounter the killer. We’ll definitely catch them tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
She watched Qiao Sanghe and Yu Wanyin walk away, feeling a twinge of envy. If Qiqi were still here, she wouldn’t have to face this alone.
After parting with Liu Chu, Qiao Sanghe and Yu Wanyin discussed possible hiding spots. But nowhere felt truly safe—every location carried some risk.
Yu Wanyin fell silent in thought. They had collected lots of clues today. Right now, the most suspicious individuals were the owner and the customer. Both had alibis: the customer was vouched for by another guest; the owner claimed to be at home.
Staff said they had never seen either suspect wear a black shirt.
“Qiao Qiao,” Yu Wanyin whispered, “Don’t you think the killer knows this swimming complex too well? A regular customer might know the layout, but not this intimately. Also, smoking inside the building would trigger alarms—except in the stairwell and the smoking area on the first floor. So who do you think is more likely?”
“The customer is a regular here, so he may be familiar with the layout. But the owner would know it even better. Both had arguments with the victims, so it’s hard to say.”
Yu Wanyin considered that the black shirt was likely worn just for the attack, then hidden or destroyed. That level of precision didn’t feel like something a customer could pull off.
“I have an idea I want to test. Tonight, let’s hide in the owner’s office. If we’re right, we might catch him red-handed.”
Qiao Sanghe was surprised, but agreed. It all depended on what the killer did next.
They slipped into the owner’s office. They had been here once before while searching for clues but hadn’t found anything useful.
Yu Wanyin scanned the room. Everything looked the same—except for two newspapers on the desk that hadn’t been there before. She picked them up and sniffed them.
“There’s a smoky smell on these.”
Qiao Sanghe came closer and confirmed it. “The owner definitely smokes. But we can’t be sure if it’s the same smoke from the button.”
They didn’t smoke themselves, so they couldn’t identify the brand or type. Still, the owner’s suspicion deepened.
“Let’s stop speculating. We need to hide.”
“Under the conference table. It’s the safest spot.”
With few hiding options, they crouched under the table. From there, they could observe the room without being easily seen.
Soon, the blackout began again. The hallway lights flickered out.
Darkness swallowed everything.
At that exact moment, Yu Wanyin pulled Qiao Sanghe into her arms—soft and fragrant, with a sweet scent of vanilla. Suddenly, the blackout didn’t seem so unbearable anymore.
Qiao Sanghe found herself enveloped in her embrace again.
She sighed. Yu Wanyin was taking advantage of the dark again.
But the warmth did ease her nerves. So she returned the hug.
The heat between them simmered.
Their soft bodies shifted against each other.
Yu Wanyin leaned close and whispered in her ear, trying to keep her voice low.
“Qiao Qiao, don’t move.”
But Qiao Sanghe found herself rebellious.
This was a special moment. They couldn’t move too much… but no one said they couldn’t touch.
Her slender, delicate fingers slowly slipped beneath Yu Wanyin’s shirt, pausing over her soft chest—then began to gently rub the tender mounds.
Yu Wanyin: “…”
