- Chapter 25 - As Long as Xiaoya Likes It
Yu Xiaoya truly had no idea what was going on. Her round, grape-like eyes sparkled with innocence. Though she looked almost identical to Yu Wanyin, her expression was filled with childlike curiosity and confusion.
“Big sis, why does your scent smell like Sister Qiao’s? And she smells a bit like you too.”
At those words, both Yu Wanyin and Qiao Sanghe froze slightly, their expressions turning a little awkward. After all, once an Alpha and Omega marked each other, their pheromones would linger on one another.
While they might not be able to smell it themselves, it was obvious to anyone else sensitive to such scents.
They had completely overlooked this issue—an obvious mistake in hindsight.
Now, all they could do was try to divert Xiaoya’s attention from the topic.
Yu Wanyin’s eyes darted slightly as she responded, feigning nonchalance, “Xiaoya, I’ve just been spending a lot of time with Sister Qiao lately. Maybe that’s why our pheromones mixed a little. It’s not a big deal.
More importantly, how’s your recovery? I came today to bring you home.”
As expected, Xiaoya was easily distracted. Her eyes lit up, full of joy. Freed from illness at last, her cheerful, carefree nature returned—this was the real her.
“Sis, I’m all better now! I wake up every day feeling energetic, and just yesterday I ate a huge bowl of rice!”
Yu Wanyin was overcome with emotion. Seeing Xiaoya healthy again was something she had only dared dream of—and now it had finally come true. The bone marrow transplant had gone smoothly, without any signs of rejection. The doctor had even said that with her current condition, she could live a normal lifespan. For a leukemia patient, this was the best possible outcome.
When Xiaoya was first diagnosed, the prognosis had been bleak. Recovery had seemed like a miracle. Without overwhelming financial support, her survival wouldn’t have been possible. Money had, quite literally, given her a second chance at life.
Yu Wanyin turned to glance at Qiao Sanghe, her face softening into a heartfelt smile.
Qiao Sanghe, normally cool and aloof, also seemed gentler in that moment. She genuinely hoped Xiaoya would get better—because it meant Wanyin would be happy.
After Xiaoya was discharged from the hospital, Yu Wanyin had originally planned to rent a new apartment. She now had enough money to afford a better place. But Qiao Sanghe had long anticipated this, and without a word, she transferred ownership of one of her high-end apartments to Yu Wanyin—deducting only the equivalent value from Wanyin’s agreed-on compensation.
So now, Yu Wanyin owned her own home. There was no need to return to that cramped rental. From here on out, she could give her sister a better life.
With Xiaoya recovering, it was time to start thinking about her future.
First, school. Once her body was fully healed, she needs to enroll in a good high school. But there was no rush—after two years of medical leave, Xiaoya would likely need tutoring before returning to the classroom.
For now, the focus was still on rest and rehabilitation.
Yu Wanyin didn’t want to pressure her. As long as Xiaoya was healthy and happy, nothing else mattered.
Meanwhile, Qiao Sanghe had her assistant prepare all kinds of gifts for Xiaoya: LEGO sets, Barbie dolls, a game console, toy models—everything a child her age might like. If not for the need to avoid exhausting her, she would’ve taken her shopping in person.
After all, she figured that a girl Xiaoya’s age would enjoy these things.
Xiaoya had never seen so many toys in her life. After the tragic loss of their parents, the sisters had lived in hardship for years. Even basic needs like food and medical care had been a struggle—let alone luxuries like toys.
The game they played most often growing up was probably beanbag toss in the courtyard.
So now, suddenly receiving so many gifts from Qiao Sanghe left her wide-eyed and flushed with excitement.
“Sister Qiao… are all these really for me? Thank you!”
“They are. As long as you like them, that’s all that matters,” Qiao Sanghe replied simply.
She said no more, but in her heart, she thought—if the girl liked them this much, next time she would buy her even better ones. After all, Yu Wanyin’s little sister was surprisingly lovable, not annoying in the slightest.
Unlike strangers, who she normally had no patience for, she found herself naturally more tolerant and warm with Xiaoya.
Yu Wanyin noticed the brands on the toys and couldn’t help but speak up. She knew just how expensive they were. One LEGO set alone could cost as much as 20,000 yuan. The game console was probably seven or eight thousand. Everything else was similarly high-end.
“Qiao Qiao… these are too expensive. Really, it’s too much. You shouldn’t have gone to all this trouble.”
Qiao Sanghe’s face darkened slightly. That tone sounded far too distant for her liking. She rolled her eyes.
“What do you mean ‘too much’? I gave them to Xiaoya, not to you. It’s not your call. As long as she likes them, that’s all that matters.”
Then she turned to Xiaoya and asked gently, “Xiaoya, do you like them?”
Xiaoya nodded honestly. “I… like them.”
Yu Wanyin sighed internally. She couldn’t help feeling a little deflated. She had never had the means to give Xiaoya these things. But one day, she promised herself, she would work hard enough to ensure her sister lived a life of abundance. Xiaoya might be healthy now—but to protect her family and the people she cherished, she needed to earn more, much more.
She glanced over at Qiao Sanghe, eyes full of unspoken resolve.
Qiao caught the look, then rolled her eyes again—clearly understanding what she was thinking. But she didn’t argue. Instead, she bent down and spoke softly to Xiaoya again.
“Sweet Xiaoya, when I have time, I’ll take you to the amusement park, the zoo, the aquarium—wherever you want to go, just tell me. We’ll go anywhere you like.”
Xiaoya’s eyes went wide, shimmering like a sky full of stars. Her heart swelled with happiness and gratitude.
“Thank you, Sister Qiao!”
“You’re welcome. But,” Qiao added playfully, “the condition is: I’ve hired a tutor to help you catch up on your schoolwork. You still need to study hard. That’s the deal.”
“Okay, Sister Qiao! I’ll work really hard!”
Xiaoya practically bounced with excitement, glowing with joy.
Yu Wanyin didn’t dare say a word. Honestly, if this continued, Qiao Sanghe was going to completely spoil Xiaoya.
Time passed quickly, and soon it was time for the next episode of Midnight Fairytale to begin filming.
The last episode had been a hit online.
The audience had been deeply moved by the emotional bond between Qiao Sanghe and Yu Wanyin. Many viewers resonated with the choices they made during the show, and the two had gained a lot of popularity.
Some fans even created a super-topic for them online as a couple, with photos and videos being posted every minute, fueling a wave of positive discussion.
Manager Han had secured a joint coffee commercial for them, scheduled to shoot the following weekend.
Yu Wanyin started to feel like she was really helping Qiao Sanghe build a fan base. But strangely, Qiao never seemed all that concerned with popularity or fame. It was as if those things held no meaning for her.
In retrospect, hiring Yu Wanyin to be her on-screen partner had likely been more about supporting Wanyin financially than any actual career strategy. Qiao remained as low-key as ever. Outside of work, she kept her whereabouts tightly under wraps. In her eyes, life and work were in a good, quiet balance.
This episode’s filming theme was a “swimming pool escape room.” The plot involved a murder at the pool, and the guests had to identify the killer within a time limit—without getting caught. Clues could only be solved during “light periods”; getting caught during “dark periods” meant losing points and being knocked back to a previous level.
This time, Qiao Sanghe and Yu Wanyin weren’t playing alone. The other guests had caught up to them in progress, and two teams had also reached Level 8 of the game.
Altogether, six guests would compete in the escape room challenge.
After arriving at the swimming facility, Qiao Sanghe changed into a pink lace one-piece swimsuit. She looked dazzling—sweet and alluring all at once. But just as she stepped out of the changing room, she received a call.
Yu Wanyin had been walking over to bring her a towel, but she froze when she overheard Qiao suddenly say over the phone:
“I will not agree to a political marriage. She would better give up that fantasy. If she doesn’t, I won’t hold back—past debts and present ones, I’ll settle them all together.”
