- Chapter 20 - Falling into a Tender Trap
Yu Wanyin’s heart was anything but calm. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. Qiao Sanghe was simply too much—how could anyone resist this kind of temptation? She had nearly lost control of her composure.
They were still filming the show. She absolutely couldn’t afford to lose face during the livestream.
Maintaining a calm expression, Yu Wanyin gently took Qiao Sanghe’s hand away, brushing it lightly against her own cheek in an attempt to shift the viewers’ attention from the earlier moment. But no amount of subtlety could undo what had already been seen. The audience had caught everything, loud and clear.
The bullet comments on the livestream exploded:
【Are they really this bold off-camera?!】
【My mind just went straight to some… unwholesome images.】
【So spicy. Sister, I’m down.】
【Siiigh I didn’t know Qiao Sanghe had this side to her.】
【Wait—did anyone notice the cut on Qiao Sanghe’s lip?】
【!! Don’t tell me it’s what I think it is…】
The livestream chat was in an uproar. Viewers were both excited and shocked by the interaction, as if they’d stumbled onto some new species of human emotion. It was becoming increasingly obvious that the public image the two portrayed was only the tip of the iceberg—there was something deeper, more genuine, behind the scenes.
Anyone with eyes could tell their interactions on the show were deliberately restrained. That only reinforced the assumption: they must be much closer in private. As celebrities, separating personal life from public image was the norm—but it seemed these two were the real deal.
Qiao Sanghe quietly observed Yu Wanyin’s expression. She touched the corner of her lip where the cut was—it didn’t hurt anymore, but somehow, she still didn’t feel satisfied. Her grip on Yu Wanyin’s hand remained firm.
Feeling slightly guilty, Yu Wanyin whispered, “What will it take for you to forgive me?”
Qiao Sanghe replied, “I’ll let you know when I figure it out.”
She needed time to plan her ‘payback.’ Yu Wanyin definitely deserved a lesson this time.
The rules for this round of the show required the guests to stay in character and complete their tasks according to the mission cards. Any violation of the listed rules would result in punishment.
Until now, both of them had always received identical mission cards. But this time was different—Qiao Sanghe’s card was red, and Yu Wanyin’s was blue. Yet the first line on both was exactly the same:
“Do not show this card to anyone.”
Not even your partner?
The showrunners had upped the difficulty: even teammates couldn’t share their tasks with each other. That made the mission dynamics more complex than ever.
But Yu Wanyin only paused briefly before showing Qiao Sanghe her mission card anyway. That rule didn’t apply to her. Even if it meant being punished—so what?
Qiao Sanghe arched a brow. Well, this just got interesting. She compared their cards—and as expected, the missions were not only different, but in direct conflict with each other.
Yu Wanyin’s instructions were to take a blue pill provided daily by the nurse. Meanwhile, Qiao Sanghe’s mission was to ensure the nurse administered a red pill. Both cards warned of severe consequences for failure.
To make matters worse, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., the nurse (Qiao Sanghe) had to ensure the patient remained in the room, while the patient (Yu Wanyin) had to leave or hide, or face “a terrifying consequence.”
Their tasks were exact opposites. Which meant—only one of them could successfully complete the mission. Would the couple fail the round unless one gave up?
【The showrunners are seriously stirring the pot this time.】
【This setup is wild!】
【I’m dying to know what choice they’ll make.】
After reading both cards, it was clear: only one task could be completed. One of them would have to abandon their mission—otherwise, they will both fail and risk delaying the overall progress.
“We’ll play it by ear,” Yu Wanyin said, squeezing Qiao Sanghe’s hand with quiet determination. “This task is complicated, but remember—trust me. The more difficult things get, the more we have to believe in each other. We’ve made it this far. We’ll get through this too.”
Qiao Sanghe nodded, her hand warm in Yu Wanyin’s grasp.
She trusted Yu Wanyin completely. In the past, the idea of putting that kind of faith in someone had been unthinkable. But with Yu Wanyin, it felt right. For the first time, she understood what it meant to have someone by her side—someone truly reliable.
They received their mission cards and began their roles. Yu Wanyin was cast as a patient, and her tasks included a full set of medical checks: blood draws, X-rays, lab tests, and daily monitoring. According to the hospital, her condition was serious—she had inflammation and required inpatient care, including regular medication and treatment. Failure to comply with the show’s rules would trigger horrifying consequences.
Yu Wanyin hadn’t expected such poor results on her medical report. Many indicators were way outside the healthy range. But according to the mission’s backstory, her condition wasn’t really that severe. She’d been tricked into staying at the hospital—her bodily data was being collected for some mysterious purpose. The whole place felt increasingly eerie.
Time passed quickly, and soon it was time for Qiao Sanghe to deliver the medicine. Her role was to record each patient’s daily vitals. From the files in the drawer, she noticed a disturbing pattern: every patient who had stayed here saw their health deteriorate rapidly. Some died on the operating table, others of complications, and some under suspicious circumstances.
This hospital was seriously messed up.
Qiao Sanghe looked down at the two capsules she was carrying—one blue, one red.
Could the worsening conditions be linked to the pills? What if the medicine was making them worse? But which pill was the safe one?
After thinking it through, she leaned toward believing the blue pill was safer for Yu Wanyin. Since her own mission was to deliver the red, it made sense that the red one might be harmful.
When Qiao Sanghe brought the pills, Yu Wanyin saw the red capsule and, without hesitation, reached for it. But Qiao Sanghe quickly stopped her, snatching it away with a scolding glare.
“What are you doing? That’s dangerous! You’re supposed to take the blue one.”
Yu Wanyin’s heart warmed—Qiao Sanghe’s urgency made it clear how much she cared.
“It doesn’t matter,” Yu Wanyin replied gently. “If we want to clear this mission, we can’t worry too much. If I take the blue one, you’ll fail. The consequences are unknown. But if I take the red, you complete your task. Maybe once we know more, we’ll find a way out. Come on, be good. Give me the red pill.”
Qiao Sanghe shook her head firmly. “No. I’m not letting you be punished for my sake. If someone has to choose, then take the blue pill. Don’t risk yourself just to help me.”
She couldn’t accept the idea of Yu Wanyin being punished while she watched helplessly. Even if it was out of love, it felt wrong. Yu Wanyin deserved better—she didn’t want her to be the one sacrificed.
Yu Wanyin let out a helpless smile, reaching out to gently stroke her cheek. “Why are you being so soft now? Didn’t we agree to trust each other? Trust my decision. We’ll make it out together. But if you hold back now, that means you don’t believe me. So please—give me the pill.”
Still, Qiao Sanghe refused. Her cool gaze held stubborn resolve. Once she made a decision, she wouldn’t budge.
Seeing no other choice, Yu Wanyin suddenly leaned forward and kissed her.
Caught off guard, Qiao Sanghe froze. In that moment, Yu Wanyin slipped the red pill from her hand and quickly swallowed it.
By the time Qiao Sanghe reacted, it was too late.
Face flushed, she snapped, “Where did you learn to be so disobedient? Who taught you this?”
Yu Wanyin’s voice was soft but firm. “If only one of us could complete the task, then I choose you. Otherwise, I will feel worse than if I were punished myself. Everything I do is because of you. I’m sorry for being so forward.”
Qiao Sanghe was helpless against her. Sometimes Yu Wanyin seemed so gentle—but other times, she was stubborn to the core. All they could do now was take things one step at a time.
She didn’t know what the red pill would do to Yu Wanyin, but she had a bad feeling.
Sure enough, less than an hour later, Yu Wanyin collapsed. The crew quickly came and took her away.
They were dressed in surgical protective suits. Qiao Sanghe couldn’t do anything to stop them—her movements were restricted. She didn’t know the full script, but still grumbled inwardly, Does the show really need to be this realistic?
Before 6 p.m., Yu Wanyin was brought back.
Her waist was wrapped in bloody bandages, her expression dazed and her body weak. It wasn’t clear what had happened, but it all felt far too real—this “hospital” was terrifying. It seemed they were secretly harvesting organs.
Qiao Sanghe was anxious to find out what had happened, but she was also worried about something else: between 6 and 8 p.m., the patient was supposed to leave the room—or face serious consequences.
Last time she didn’t stop Yu Wanyin from taking the pill, and things turned out like this.
She rushed to Yu Wanyin’s room. Yu Wanyin was lying weakly on the bed, clearly sedated. There was no way she could leave on her own.
No time to think—she had to move her immediately.
Qiao Sanghe gently lifted her from the bed and snuck her into the nurse station’s break room next door, hiding the two of them under the bed.
Even though this was all just part of the show, the sharp scent of disinfectant and the bizarre events gave the entire experience an unsettling realism.
Yu Wanyin looked at her and said softly, “I remember your mission was to keep the patient in the room during this time. Otherwise you’ll be punished too.”
Qiao Sanghe shot her a glare. “Says the one who ate the red pill without permission! I haven’t even punished you for that yet.”
Yu Wanyin said seriously, “I’m not afraid of punishment—I’m only afraid of you being punished. That would break my heart more than anything. No matter what happens, I want to protect you. That’s why I have to return to the room.”
Qiao Sanghe was so mad she wanted to smack her. Since filming began, Yu Wanyin had gone against her over and over. She was always doing things that worried her. Even though she knew it was out of love, seeing her hurt still made her heart ache.
There was no way she would let Yu Wanyin go back.
She wasn’t strong enough to physically stop her—she couldn’t even win a tug-of-war over a pill. So she had to use more… creative methods.
As Yu Wanyin turned away, Qiao Sanghe tackled her and kissed her hard, pinning her beneath the bed. She wasn’t letting her go anywhere.
Yu Wanyin’s soft, warm lips tasted like vanilla-scented cotton candy. The tender, electric kiss left her dazed and breathless. Her body went limp under the sensation—utterly lost in Qiao Sanghe’s embrace.
