A Happy Ending with my Fiancée's Arch-enemy - Chapter 38
【?】
【Not sure about the future, but definitely not now.】
【Or should I throw it up and give it back to you?】
Su Yien had waited so long for Yu Ning’s reply, only to receive these few lines.
“…”
The anger in her tone was unmistakable.
Su Yien glanced outside the classroom and happened to see Yu Ning and Cheng Ling following someone. Su Yien had seen this person before but didn’t know her name.
Had something happened?
She noticed Yu Ning looking down at her phone.
Just as Su Yien was about to ask, she received another message from Yu Ning.
【Did you know? It turns out that Cheng Ling getting bitten by a snake that day wasn’t an accident. Someone deliberately disturbed the snake’s nest.】
Su Yien was about to send a reply expressing her indifference to such news, but before she could, another message from Yu Ning arrived.
【Originally, they were targeting me, but I was lucky enough to dodge the bullet.】
Su Yien replied with a question mark.
Yu Ning wasn’t sure what she meant but assumed she might find it unbelievable, so she added:
【You probably won’t believe this, but Cheng Ling happened to see Zhang Xiaoqian sneaking around behind us and got curious, so she followed. In the end, she ended up taking the fall for me.】
Su Yien wasn’t one to ignore reason, so she replied, 【Then you should thank her properly.】
【Exactly. So I told her I’d treat her to a meal when she’s free. She said there’s no time like the present and that she’s available today. So, you’ll have to go back by yourself tonight.】
Su Yien: “…”
Thank her? What for?
Had Cheng Ling never learned the phrase “no strings attached”?
And now Yu Ning was ditching her for someone else.
【Can’t talk now, I’m heading into the office.】
Su Yien typed and deleted for a long time, unable to form a proper response. In the end, she simply sent a “Okay.”
As for the so-called evidence, it was mostly just to scare Zhang Xiaoqian. There was no way she could actually go back up the mountain to look for proof.
Surprisingly, Zhang Xiaoqian had taken her words seriously and confessed everything truthfully in front of their homeroom teacher, even detailing how Jiang Shuangshuang had spoken to her.
Wu Juan, of course, wouldn’t take Zhang Xiaoqian’s word alone and called Jiang Shuangshuang into the office to confront her.
So, Zhang Xiaoqian ended up repeating the scene in front of Jiang Shuangshuang. At the time, Zhang Xiaoqian had found Jiang Shuangshuang’s words and expression terrifying.
But after calming down, she realized she had been used as a pawn. Now that Yu Ning was targeting her, why should Jiang Shuangshuang get off scot-free?
Without hesitation, Zhang Xiaoqian exposed Jiang Shuangshuang.
Although she had witnessed Jiang Shuangshuang’s cunning before, Zhang Xiaoqian hadn’t expected her to lie so brazenly in front of their homeroom teacher without batting an eye.
Not only Wu Juan but also Lin Yanqing, who had just arrived at the office to submit homework, heard Jiang Shuangshuang’s words clearly.
“Could it be that Sister Xiaoqian has misunderstood me? It was my first time on Fenghuang Mountain that day, how could I possibly know where any snake nests were or instruct you to harm Sister Yu Ning.”
As she spoke, Jiang Shuangshuang lowered her gaze, seemingly heartbroken. After a moment, she looked up, her eyes brimming with tears, and stared at Yu Ning. “Does Sister Yu Ning think so too?”
If it were an ordinary person, they would likely feel constrained by their relationship as classmates or the presence of the homeroom teacher and say a few polite words, or at the very least, respond with “I don’t know.”
But Yu Ning was no ordinary person she had the “memory buff,” after all.
What did she think? She was convinced it was Jiang Shuangshuang.
“Of course, what else?”
Yu Ning looked at her as if she were a clown, her expression tinged with mockery.
Was she a trash bag? So full of it.
The scene fell into silence because of Yu Ning’s words. Just then, a clear “report” reached everyone’s ears.
Lin Yanqing was carrying a stack of homework into the office. As soon as she placed it in front of Wu Juan, she received Jiang Shuangshuang’s timid, pleading gaze.
Since realizing that Jiang Shuangshuang’s previous demeanor had been an act, Lin Yanqing had become immune to such looks from her.
Unexpectedly, Jiang Shuangshuang suddenly spoke up: “I was with Yanqing the whole time that day. I didn’t interact with anyone else.”
Clearly, the “anyone else” Jiang Shuangshuang referred to was Zhang Xiaoqian.
In comparison, Wu Juan was more inclined to believe Lin Yanqing. Based on her years of experience as her homeroom teacher, Wu Juan knew Lin Yanqing was an honest child who wouldn’t lie.
Yu Ning stepped aside, watching the farce with a half-smile and sighing inwardly. The homeroom teacher was clearly favoring Lin Yanqing and Jiang Shuangshuang.
On top of that, Cheng Ling was Lin Yanqing’s friend and would undoubtedly trust her unconditionally, just like Wu Juan.
“Bet you a dinner Lin Yanqing will say yes. Do you believe it?”
“Hmph.” Yu Ning sneered. What was there to say?
As soon as she finished sneering, she met Lin Yanqing’s gaze and heard her response:
“No.”
Surprisingly, Lin Yanqing didn’t back up Jiang Shuangshuang. After answering, she left the office, leaving the others exchanging bewildered looks.
“Tsk, looks like I saved on dinner money.”
Cheng Ling: “…”
In the end, Wu Juan reported the incident to the school. Zhang Xiaoqian would undoubtedly receive a demerit. As for Jiang Shuangshuang, since there was no evidence to prove whether Zhang Xiaoqian’s claims were true or false, Wu Juan only gave her a minor punishment making her clean the floor for a few weeks.
As soon as she left the office, Yu Ning took out her phone, ready to send a message to Su Yien.
Suddenly remembering something, she walked to the back door of Class 2, leaned against the doorframe, and peeked inside. After searching for a while, she spotted Su Yien sitting in the last row by the window.
“Su Yien ”
The loud reading in the classroom drowned out Yu Ning’s voice, but Su Yien still sensed something and glanced back, just in time to see Yu Ning waving and smiling at her. “I just won a bet. I’ll treat you to dinner this afternoon free of charge.”
Su Yien had been contemplating how to gently advise Yu Ning not to casually eat with others when she heard this.
Seeing Yu Ning’s happy smile, Su Yien nodded.
Not bad she remembered to invite her when something good happened.
