A Happy Ending with my Fiancée's Arch-enemy - Chapter 31
The entire morning passed in a haze of drowsiness for Yu Ning. During class, she struggled to stay awake and listen, her textbook covered in dense, winding lines and tiny dots drawn by her pen.
As soon as the bell rang, Yu Ning eagerly buried her head in her arms to sleep, silently vowing to herself that if she ever woke up this early again, she’d be a dog.
Knock, knock.
Hearing the tapping sound, Yu Ning instinctively thought it was Su Yien and didn’t even bother to lift her head.
Until she heard her homeroom teacher’s voice from above: “Yu Ning.”
With a jolt, Yu Ning sat bolt upright, staring at the teacher who had called her name.
“Come with me to the office.”
After the teacher turned around, Yu Ning yawned and got up from her seat, following behind her.
Once in the office, Wu Juan spoke very tactfully: “I’m very happy to see you coming to school so early in the morning to study, but Yu Ning, if you’re just studying blindly, it won’t be effective…”
Yu Ning listened to her ramble on and on, growing sleepier with every word.
“Yu Ning!”
“Huh?”
Yu Ning widened her eyes, staring blankly at Wu Juan.
Just as she uttered the word “huh,” she heard a familiar laugh from next door.
So Su Yien had been called to the office too.
Her gaze happened to meet Su Yien’s.
What are you laughing at? You got called to the office too, didn’t you?
Yu Ning threatened her with her eyes.
“Yu Ning.”
Wu Juan sighed helplessly. She had been quite pleased to see Yu Ning arrive so early in the morning, but she hadn’t expected her to doze off during class when she should have been listening.
“Yes.”
Standing straight, she didn’t dare make a sound.
“I suggest you adjust your sleep schedule properly. If you’re going to wake up early, then go to bed early. Don’t doze off in class, otherwise, what’s the point of waking up early to study? Don’t you agree?”
Yu Ning nodded like a chick pecking at rice.
Seeing Yu Ning’s good attitude, Wu Juan didn’t give her a hard time. She reminded her to focus more in class and then let her go.
After her trip to the office, Yu Ning felt much more awake. She stood on the balcony, letting the cold wind blow on her, and once she was sure she wasn’t sleepy anymore, she headed back to the classroom.
Turning around, she noticed Su Yien staring at her.
Ignoring her, Yu Ning silently vowed not to wake up early tomorrow.
Who wakes up early to play tennis?
Perhaps out of guilt, Su Yien waited outside her classroom right after school ended at noon, saying she wanted to treat her to lunch.
Before Yu Ning could refuse, she heard Sun Yiyi’s cheerful reply: “Sure, sure!”
After saying that, Sun Yiyi nudged Yu Ning with her elbow.
And threatened her with her eyes.
You have to go.
Yu Ning: “…”
The cafeteria at Jiaoyang Girls’ School was on par with outside restaurants, so many students chose to eat there at noon instead of leaving campus.
“I don’t really feel like eating.”
Aside from sleeping, nothing else could capture her attention.
“Just sit here and rest for a bit.”
After saying this, Su Yien walked toward the cafeteria window.
Yu Ning lay her head on the cafeteria table, planning to nap for a while. The cafeteria was noisy, and all Yu Ning could hear was a buzzing sound in her ears. Even so, she still managed to fall asleep.
“What did Yu Ning do today? She’s been sleeping all day.”
The speaker was her former deskmate, Cheng Leyao, who looked somewhat concerned.
“Her? She probably woke up too early. I saw her at the school gate at six this morning.”
A classmate next to Cheng Leyao replied.
“Six o’clock?” Cheng Leyao also found it unbelievable. When she used to sit next to Yu Ning, she had never seen her wake up that early.
“Yeah, and not just her. I saw Su Yien too. They were having breakfast together.”
“So they had plans.” Cheng Leyao frowned. “What were they doing so early? Studying?”
“Probably. I saw them at the milk tea shop yesterday afternoon. It looked like Yu Ning was explaining a problem to Su Yien.”
“Tsk tsk, that scene was so pleasing to the eye. Do you think they’re together every day, maybe…”
Bang
The speculation was cut off by the sound of a tray hitting the table.
The speaker looked toward the source of the sound and saw Lin Yanqing standing behind her, staring at her with a warning in her eyes: “Don’t gossip about others behind their backs. Haven’t you learned that?”
Under the gaze of many eyes, the speaker awkwardly smiled: “I won’t do it again.”
After Lin Yanqing left, the speaker patted her chest: “That scared me. I didn’t expect Lin Yanqing’s glare to be so intimidating.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she pursed her lips, looking somewhat disdainful: “When we used to badmouth Yu Ning in front of her, she never stopped us. Now that they’ve broken off their engagement, she suddenly cares about what others say.”
Cheng Leyao smiled awkwardly. Originally, she was just concerned about Yu Ning, but after Lin Yanqing’s warning, it felt like they had been convicted of gossiping behind others’ backs.
It was quite excessive.
“Wait, does she think we’re easy to bully…”
“I don’t know, I don’t understand.”
Cheng Leyao answered honestly. After all, she had seen how Lin Yanqing treated Yu Ning, and she didn’t idolize Lin Yanqing like the others did, so she saw things more clearly.
When she heard the sound of the tray hitting the table, Yu Ning had already woken up. As soon as she lifted her head, she saw Lin Yanqing standing right in front of her.
It seemed like Lin Yanqing was about to say something, but she was interrupted by Su Yien.
“Here, your lunch.”
Originally not very hungry, Yu Ning was drawn in by the aroma of sweet and sour pork ribs and didn’t waste any more glances on Lin Yanqing.
“Yanqing, let’s go to the library.”
Jiang Shuangshuang suddenly walked over and tugged on Lin Yanqing’s sleeve.
Lin Yanqing lowered her gaze, subtly moving her hand away. When she looked up again, she heard Sun Yiyi’s teasing words:
“You’re so good to Yu Ning. Even I, as her friend, get to benefit. We never had this kind of treatment before. Let’s raise our glasses to congratulate Yu Ning for escaping her misery.”
What Sun Yiyi called “raising glasses” was actually raising soda bottles.
Misery?
Lin Yanqing mulled over the word. Was she misery to Yu Ning?
In that moment, Lin Yanqing felt that Sun Yiyi’s words were right. In the past, she had never paid attention to the people around Yu Ning, not even remembering Sun Yiyi’s face.
In the end, Lin Yanqing left without saying a word.
“Hilarious. Lin Yanqing finally got a taste of her own medicine.” Sun Yiyi sneered. She had been keeping an eye on Lin Yanqing’s recent attitude and behavior.
Serves you right for not caring about others.
Yu Ning neither stopped her nor agreed. As far as she was concerned, treating Lin Yanqing like a stranger was enough.
“How did you know I wanted sweet and sour pork ribs?”
“I guessed.”
Thinking back, Yu Ning realized that Su Yien seemed to know her very well, what she liked and disliked.
But then again, it was possible Sun Yiyi had told her, so she didn’t dwell on it.
“By the way, I’m going to Yiyi’s house this afternoon, so you’ll have to go home and do your practice tests on your own today.”
Sun Yiyi already knew about Yu Ning tutoring Su Yien and didn’t ask any further questions.
“Okay.”
Su Yien’s obedient reply made Yu Ning feel a bit uncomfortable.
The reason for such obedience was entirely because Su Yien had something to take care of in the afternoon.
Su Yien remembered that she had left an important book in her room and planned to go retrieve it today.
After school, Su Yien returned to her home behind the school. She had been worried about running into the person her mother had introduced, but to her surprise, no one was in the house.
The living room was tidy, and the kitchen clearly hadn’t been used. The door to the master bedroom was slightly ajar, revealing a neat and clean room.
As long as they kept things clean, it was fine.
After retrieving the book, Su Yien left without looking back or examining the room more closely.
