A Guide to Capturing the Gentle Older Sister - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
You happened to push open the door, and she happened to be right by it—not a moment too soon, not a moment too late, just in time to be seen.
It was as if a butterfly had flown from between her brows straight into Yu Weiwei’s eyes, making her eyelashes tremble like falling pollen.
“Hello, Sister.” Once the initial moment of daze passed, Yu Weiwei subconsciously bowed.
Oh no, why am I being so stupid? she fretted inwardly, her ears turning completely red.
Soft, moist fingertips steadied her, and a light chuckle sprinkled across her cheeks: “You really are a little friend, so well-behaved. Come in first, it’s very hot outside.”
“Oh, oh, it’s… it’s alright…” Yu Weiwei’s body was stiff.
“Juice or soda?” Jiang Wu led her to the sofa to sit down, her eyes gentle and full of reassurance.
“Juice would be fine.” Yu Weiwei sat upright in a prim, elementary-student posture.
Jiang Wu turned back after pouring the water only to see the little girl sitting so obediently. Those clear puppy eyes were innocent and docile, every emotion written plainly on her face.
“Rest for a bit first.”
“Mmm-hmm.” Yu Weiwei took the glass with both hands and stammered a compliment, “Sister, you are truly beautiful, and you have such a graceful aura.”
Jiang Wu was amused: “You are very cute, too.”
The house had a duplex layout. At that moment, a small head peeked out from the corner of the second-floor stairs, dark eyes looking over.
Yu Weiwei looked over subconsciously, locking eyes with him.
“Zhexuan, come here,” Jiang Wu beckoned. “This is Teacher Xiao Yu.”
The child pursed his lips and walked down from upstairs quietly, standing before the two of them: “Hello, Teacher Xiao Yu. My name is Jiang Zhexuan.”
He was about eight or nine years old, carved like jade and snow, looking quite adorable. After greeting her, he simply sat down quietly to one side. Yu Weiwei’s heart settled, and she tried her best to give an approachable smile: “Hello, Zhexuan.”
Jiang Wu watched from the side with a smile as the two little friends got acquainted, lightly rubbing the corner of her eye. “Then you two take a break, and then have the lesson in the study upstairs, okay?”
“Okay,” Yu Weiwei nodded hastily.
“Good. Call me whenever you need anything.” Jiang Wu gazed at her tenderly before turning her head toward Zhexuan. “Zhexuan, take good care of Teacher Xiao Yu, alright?”
“Okay, Auntie,” Jiang Zhexuan nodded.
Yu Weiwei suddenly felt like she was back in her student days, visiting a classmate’s house and facing their parent.
Left alone, the two little friends looked at each other.
“Teacher Xiao Yu, do you like eating fish?”
“Ah… I like it. Does Zhexuan like it?”
“I don’t really like it. Once when I was little, I got a fish bone stuck in my throat and it made my mom cry from fright, so I stopped liking fish.”
“Is it because you like eating fish so much that you’re called Teacher Xiao Yu?”
Yu Weiwei hadn’t even processed the melancholy of the previous sentence before hearing this one, leaving her between laughter and tears.
It turned out the kid had misheard “Xiao Yu” (Surname Yu) as “Xiao Yu” (Little Fish)!
“Well… actually, it’s because little fish are very cute.”
“Oh…” Jiang Zhexuan nodded as if it were a serious matter. “Teacher Xiao Yu, then let me take you to the study.”
“I want to learn English well quickly, so I can go to my mom’s side sooner.”
“Aw, okay.” Yu Weiwei felt a bit of a localized ache in her heart. Jiang Wu had communicated with her before that the child had some foundation in English, and the tutoring was mainly to help him meet the requirements for going abroad sooner.
Yu Weiwei didn’t overstep by prying into where his father was, but instead patted her chest and promised.
“Trust Teacher Xiao Yu. I’m quite good at teaching English.”
The child’s eyes brightened immediately, causing Teacher Xiao Yu’s self-confidence to explode.
Sure enough, after one lesson, the two of them were getting along famously. Yu Weiwei was naturally an outgoing person who befriended others easily, and there was no generation gap at all when communicating with the child. Jiang Zhexuan was a bit reserved at the start, but by the end of the lesson, he was already tugging at Yu Weiwei’s sleeve and acting spoiled.
“Teacher Xiao Yu, will you show me your drawings next lesson?”
“I’ll show you mine, too.”
“Of course, no problem! We’ll have a little contest, though I think my drawings will definitely be better.”
“I’ll work very hard, too,” Jiang Zhexuan said, refusing to be outdone.
Having finished her work, Jiang Wu stood by the door and saw this exact scene. Her feelings of fatigue were instantly swept away. She watched them chattering away with a smile, waiting until they finished before curling her fingers to knock on the door.
“It’s snack time, little friends.”
Hearing the voice, Yu Weiwei turned around to see the beauty leaning halfway against the doorframe, the corners of her lips slightly raised and her eyes like spring waters as she looked over with a smile. Her face flushed: “Okay, Sister.”
The dining table in the living room was set with fruit and snacks. Jiang Zhexuan busied himself dividing the snacks between himself and Teacher Xiao Yu, piece by piece. Jiang Wu placed two of the plates in front of Yu Weiwei.
“Try these. The ‘little friends’ at the law firm recommended them—young people’s tastes. You should like them.”
“Sister, you are very young too,” Yu Weiwei blushed.
Jiang Wu laughed: “Hmm? Guess how old I am.”
“You look about the same as me,” Yu Weiwei said, emboldened.
“Haha… thank you for the ‘little friend’s’ endorsement. I am 12 years older than you,” Jiang Wu said, her eyes full of tenderness.
Only 12 years—that’s not old at all.
“But Sister, you look like you’re in great shape, plus you have a calm aura. I was thinking, if I could become like Sister in twelve years, that would be perfect.”
Jiang Wu was amused enough to laugh out loud.
The sound was like a tinkling spring flowing through a moonlit valley—soft but not coquettish, clear but not sharp, winding and low, possessing a unique charm of its own. The puppy inside Yu Weiwei’s heart collapsed on cue, its tail wagging like a propeller. She widened her eyes, trying to prove: Everything I’m saying is the truth, absolutely authentic.
It had been a long time since Jiang Wu had been so purely happy.
“Thank you. I’ll have to trouble you with Zhexuan’s studies from now on, is that okay?”
“Of course!” The puppy in Yu Weiwei’s heart was teary-eyed, wanting nothing more than to rush up and hug the rich sister to thank her for her appreciation. For the sake of this pay, she was absolutely duty-bound.
I must have met a soft-hearted goddess this summer!
Looking at those watery eyes, Jiang Wu had a sudden urge to reach out and rub them. She laughed to herself and tossed the thought to the back of her mind.
Young people were always innocent and cute, their hearts visible at a single glance. The longer one drifted in the professional world, the more precious such qualities became.
For the return trip, Jiang Wu naturally drove Yu Weiwei back. Yu Weiwei slumped in the car, enjoying the air conditioning, and placed an even brighter halo of beautiful and kind over Jiang Wu’s head.
And so, that night in Dorm 603.
Except for Chen Yan, who hadn’t returned yet, Kuang Yao and Mi Shushu got an earful of Yu Weiwei’s flowery praises for Jiang Wu.
“I get it, I get it,” Mi Shushu said, helplessly plugging her ears. “If one gets rich, let’s prosper together. You’re treating us to a meal.”
“Biu-solutely no problem.”
Kuang Yao pulled back her bed curtain, casting a complicated gaze over.
“Yu Weiwei.”
“What.”
“You’d better be a straight girl.”
“Of course I am!” Yu Weiwei said righteously.
“Ow. So it’s ‘Sister’ first, ‘Sister’ second, and then ‘Sister’ again?” Kuang Yao rolled her eyes.
“The word ‘Sister’ isn’t a monopoly of your ‘Hime’ circle, is it? Why can’t I say it?”
“Heh.” Kuang Yao climbed down from her bed and began putting on clothes to head out.
“What’s wrong? Where are you going so late?” Yu Weiwei asked, puzzled.
Mi Shushu pulled at her carefully.
“Um, Little Candy has had a fever all week. She’s probably going to the hospital.”
Yu Weiwei was instantly silenced, feeling a bit of pity.
Little Candy was the daughter of the person Kuang Yao liked.
That’s right—the famous Foreign Languages Department les, the public heartthrob, Kuang Yao, was actually a professional at being obsessed with a straight girl. And she was in deep.
The person she liked used to be her high school teacher, who had just divorced a few years ago and was raising her daughter, Little Candy, alone.
The roommates of 603 had all helped her look after Little Candy before.
“Sigh.” Yu Weiwei sighed, her body moving faster than her mind to grab an umbrella and hand it over.
“Take an umbrella, in case it rains.”
