A Fatal Attraction from Lawyer A - Chapter 91
Ever since Gu Yuxi started his leave, the entire Galaxy Group had been buzzing with rumors about why Lawyer Gu had suddenly disappeared. That was until one day, they saw their young CEO, Luo Panzhi, pushing a stroller into the building. Inside the stroller was a babbling baby boy.
Only then did the truth hit them: The Young CEO has a child?!
And who gave birth to this child? Lawyer Gu.
It was absolutely mind-boggling—Lawyer Gu was an Alpha, yet he could actually give birth?!
Of course, that wasn’t the most shocking part. What truly stunned them was that Luo Panzhi took that stroller everywhere, including board meetings. However stern and cold the CEO looked during the meetings, his movements as he gently rocked the stroller to soothe the baby to sleep were equally tender.
In the end, the employees were the ones who benefited. A fatherhood-softened Luo Panzhi had a much better temper than before; at the very least, he stopped flying into rages, and for a while, he hadn’t scolded a single person during meetings.
Sometime later, Gu Yuxi finally returned to the group. Everyone noticed he had grown much thinner. Gossip being the one thing humans are most persistent about, many eventually learned through various channels that Lawyer Gu had suffered a massive hemorrhage during childbirth and almost didn’t make it.
No one blamed the CEO for assigning Lawyer Gu to give legal lectures to the staff anymore; after all, a quiet job like that seemed more suited for Gu Yuxi’s current state of health.
However, Lawyer Gu himself didn’t seem particularly happy with the arrangement.
Galaxy Group — Large Conference Room
Gu Yuxi had just finished a session explaining basic legal knowledge to the marketing department. This was only the first session; he had several more scheduled this week, rotating through every department in the company.
This was what Xu Wen had just informed him.
He closed his laptop, turned off the projector, and looked expressionlessly at Xu Wen. “Luo Panzhi arranged this? Did he push all my actual legal work away?”
Xu Wen looked conflicted, caught between the two. “For the short term… yes, that’s the case.”
Gu Yuxi adjusted his glasses, his expression cool. He picked up his laptop and said flatly, “Fine. I understand. I’ll go talk to him myself.”
From the day he returned, he had intended to take on a class-action lawsuit involving foreign investors against the Galaxy Group. The case stemmed from the group’s listing in Country Y, where investors claimed the group had withheld risks regarding “market guidance” from the Chinese government, fearing that China’s strength would constrain the group’s development and harm their interests.
Just as he was preparing to dive into the case, Luo Panzhi had sidelined him into giving basic legal lectures to the staff.
At first, he thought it was just part of his duties, but now Xu Wen was saying his entire week—and potentially visits to subsidiary companies—was filled with lectures.
If this wasn’t an attempt to control him, what was it? Did Luo Panzhi think he was too fragile to touch a cross-border case now?
As Xu Wen watched Gu Yuxi walk away, he felt an immense sense of envy that he couldn’t quite act on. Beyond the envy, he felt moved—their Young CEO finally had someone to keep him in check.
CEO’s Office
“Rongrong, look at the StellaLou doll Daddy bought you. Isn’t it pretty?”
In front of the floor-to-ceiling window, Luo Panzhi, dressed in a silver-grey suit, was bent over the stroller. He was using a limited-edition plush toy to coax his son, whose eyes were crinkled into crescents of laughter. At this age, the little guy was truly a joy.
“咿呀叭! (Ee-ya-ba!)”
Luo Panzhi listened to the milky babble as the tiny hand gripped his finger. He smiled and wiped a bit of drool from the corner of the baby’s mouth. “Is Rongrong calling for Papa?”
“叭! (Ba!)”
Luo Panzhi laughed at the sight of the little “sprout” ponytail bobbing on top of the baby’s head.
Luo Songran was five months old now. Although he was a boy, his face was fair and beautiful, looking almost like a little girl’s. Luo Panzhi had tied his uncut baby hair into a tiny tuft on top of his head, a sight so cute it could melt a heart.
Moreover, the baby was incredibly well-behaved. Compared to his brother Zuogu’s twin sons, Songran was an angel—always smiling and quiet. Aside from a slightly weak constitution due to being premature, he was as good as a baby could be.
How could Luo Panzhi not want to keep him by his side every day? It truly felt like the child was here to repay his parents for the hardship of his birth.
Just then, he heard the office door open. The familiar footsteps told him exactly who it was.
“Luo Panzhi, who did you give my class-action case to?” Gu Yuxi walked in. Seeing Luo Panzhi by the stroller, he suppressed the anger he felt for the sake of the child.
He walked over to Luo’s side.
“Is Lawyer Gu’s lecture over?” Luo Panzhi didn’t seem bothered by Gu’s cold tone. He pulled his hand away from his son and leaned back in his chair to look at Gu.
The Gu Yuxi who had returned to work was the same cold, rigorous lawyer he had always known—his attitude toward work was selfless and meticulous. This actually gave Luo Panzhi a bit of a psychological “gap.”
His wife wasn’t acting spoiled anymore; instead, he wanted to go abroad to handle a class-action suit that would likely take at least half a year. The investor representatives in Country Y were notoriously difficult characters.
There was no way Luo Panzhi would let his wife out of his sight for that long. He had to do something. This time, no matter what, he wouldn’t let Gu Yuxi leave the country.
“Why did you cancel my work?” Gu Yuxi leaned against the desk and reached down to play with his smiling son. “Don’t give me the excuse that I’m not adjusted to the workload yet. That’s not a reason.”
Under his suit, Gu’s waist was even thinner than before; it looked like Luo could wrap a single arm around it.
And that’s exactly what Luo Panzhi did.
Before Gu Yuxi could react, Luo’s arm hooked around his waist, pulling him back into Luo’s lap.
“The reason is simple: I don’t want you going abroad. I want to see you every day.” Luo Panzhi held him tight, resting his chin on Gu’s shoulder. “Besides, our son is only five months old. Do you really have the heart to leave him?”
Warm breath hit his neck, and Gu Yuxi tried to dodge the ticklish sensation.
“Why are you hiding?”
As Gu turned his head, Luo’s large hand gripped his jaw, firmly but not unkindly, forcing him to look back. Gu’s eyes met Luo’s deep, dark gaze. When his Alpha turned dominant, his eyes lost their usual softness, becoming cold and sharp like whiskey on ice.
Gu’s Adam’s apple bobbed. “I’m not hiding.”
Luo Panzhi felt the movement against his palm. It was just a swallow, yet it sent a thrill through his heart. Ever since Gu had recovered, they had explored every form of intimacy; their shared desires were no longer restrained by anything—except for this man’s workaholic nature.
Luo kissed Gu’s earlobe. “Can you really bear to leave me? We haven’t been apart since we got together. Aren’t you afraid you won’t be able to get used to it?”
In the CEO’s leather chair, where there were once two equal Alphas, one now clearly held the upper hand.
Gu Yuxi, held firmly in place, let out a soft laugh. “Mr. Luo, don’t forget, when I first got pregnant, you went on business trips all the time. Why the double standard now?”
“I just don’t want you to go. So what if I’m using my position for personal gain? Baby, I’m begging you, okay?”
Luo’s low, lazy voice murmured in his ear. Despite the dominant posture, his words were a plea. This contrast was something Gu Yuxi simply couldn’t resist.
“Even so, you should have told me,” Gu said, turning his head to escape the warmth. “You can’t just abuse your power like this.”
“What’s wrong with a husband using his power for his wife’s sake?” Luo thought about how they hadn’t even had their wedding yet, and here his wife was thinking of running off for work. “Anyway, you aren’t going this time. If you dare to leave the country—”
“Then what?”
“I’ll make you cry. You can try me.”
“咿呀呀~~” The son in the stroller chimed in as if agreeing.
Gu Yuxi shot Luo a look that said, ‘You’ve gotten bold.’ “Don’t hold me. Let go.”
Luo Panzhi’s lips quirked as he raised his hands in mock surrender, his eyes full of bottomless indulgence. “Fine, my mistake.”
Gu Yuxi didn’t want to argue. He stood up and scooped his son out of the stroller. Seeing the soft little boy smiling again, he leaned down to kiss him. The baby waved his tiny fists excitedly.
“Rongrong, call me Papa.”
“叭! (Ba!)”
Gu’s heart melted. He truly didn’t want to leave the child. This was his own flesh and blood, a child he had almost died for. Thinking about being away for so long did feel like a heavy weight on his heart. He realized he might be a bit too obsessed with what work “meant” to him. In the past, he needed work to prove his worth, but now, he needed to shift his focus.
“The son is so cute, do you really want to leave?” Luo Panzhi stood up and hugged Gu Yuxi from behind, encircling both his lover and his child. “And your Alpha is young, handsome, and full of energy. Can you bear to leave him?”
“Ba-ba-ba!” the son chimed in again.
Luo Panzhi poked the baby’s cheek. “You think Daddy’s right, don’t you?”
“Ba!”
“I just think this class-action suit is tricky. If I go, it will end faster. I was the one who worked with Mr. Chu and Mr. Luo when the group listed in Country Y; I know the details better than anyone.” Gu wiped the baby’s mouth, his eyes falling on the mole on his son’s nose.
It was exactly like Luo Panzhi’s, in the same spot. Luo Songran looked so much like his father; no wonder he was so well-behaved.
Luo Panzhi understood Gu’s concerns. He knew Gu hadn’t become Chief Counsel for nothing. “I don’t want you to put so much pressure on yourself. The legal team isn’t just you. If you’re worried, you can still oversee it—just let someone else go abroad while you stay here. Please?”
“You really don’t want me to go that much?” Gu Yuxi noticed his son had fallen asleep in his arms. Aside from the pain of the birth, the baby had been wonderful these past few months. He ate, slept, and smiled. He truly was a blessing. Being a father for the first time, Gu realized that the most basic part of it was presence. Leaving would be hard.
“Of course. I want to have you with me every second.” Luo Panzhi checked the clock. “Baby, the son is asleep.”
“And?” Gu leaned down to place the baby back in the stroller.
“After lunch, isn’t it your turn to coax me to sleep?” Luo Panzhi leaned against the desk, his long legs slightly bent. As Gu finished tucking the baby in, Luo reached out and pulled him between his knees.
In private, they loved this kind of clingy intimacy.
Gu Yuxi rested his hands on Luo’s waist, his eyes shimmering behind his glasses. “And how do you want to be coaxed?”
“By you holding me, of course.”
Gu wrapped his arms around Luo’s waist in a simple hug. “Like this?”
“So reserved? You aren’t usually like this.” Luo let him hold him, though his lips twitched.
Suddenly, Luo felt the cool metal of his belt buckle being tugged by Gu. He was pulled flush against Gu’s chest, meeting a gaze that was suddenly dark and lingering.
“If you agree to let me handle this case… I’ll take the lead myself (in bed). How’s that?”
The cool, calm voice whispered words that were pure, unadulterated temptation.
Luo Panzhi looked away and laughed, covering his face. “You… seriously. Don’t tempt me like this every time, okay?”
“Is it not working?” Gu Yuxi whispered. “Husband.”
Luo Panzhi took a sharp breath.
It worked. It worked very well.
But he really didn’t want his wife going abroad.
That night, Gu Yuxi used “practical actions” to show Luo Panzhi just how much he wanted that case. It was the first major case since his return, and he wouldn’t miss the chance to prove himself.
In the end, Luo Panzhi was worn down until he finally gave in.
