A Fatal Attraction from Lawyer A - Chapter 70
“The culprit behind the zoonotic disease outbreak in Country L has been identified. The Alpha male, who was in his susceptibility period at the time, is a Chinese citizen named He Ri. The police have also discovered a connection: he is cousins with Mo Wenbin. Mo Wenbin previously visited him in Country L, and authorities suspect Mo informed He Ri about the key triggers for secondary differentiation, leading to the massive outbreak.”
“He has since fled back to China. Country L has notified Chinese public security regarding his crimes, which fall under ‘Endangering Public Safety,’ and has requested ‘proxy punishment.'”
“The issue lies here: the International Oversight Committee has been frequently seizing our BO-Inducers because they’ve reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) that Galaxy Group is allegedly concealing the fact that secondary differentiation is contagious, rather than purely genetic. They also claim we are hiding that the BO-Inducer can serve as a neutralizing agent to alleviate secondary differentiation sequelae. They have applied for a report on the neutralizing reaction of the inducer in patients.”
“The WHO believes that because of the outbreak in Country L, and because Lawyer Gu is the world’s first case of secondary differentiation, they are demanding that China have Galaxy Group submit a fresh neutralizing reaction report based on Lawyer Gu’s current status.”
In the study, a video conference was underway. The legal representative from Galaxy Group’s international department in Country L was reporting the latest updates to Luo Panzhi—tasks assigned by the elder President Luo.
Sitting before the screen, Luo Panzhi leaned back, expressionless. His hand toyed with the top of a fountain pen. The light traced his sharp, handsome features, but the coldness in his eyes simmered with a palpable ferocity.
“A fresh report on the neutralizing reaction? Heh.” He broke the silence with a chilling laugh. “What do they mean? What does a zoonotic outbreak in Country L have to do with Lawyer Gu? And they want Galaxy Group to submit a report? Why? Did Galaxy Group cause the outbreak, or did Lawyer Gu personally infect them?”
The legal representative had anticipated this reaction. “President Luo (senior) asked me to seek your opinion. It is a consultation; you give the answer, and we reply to the WHO.”
In other words, it was not mandatory.
With a thud, the fountain pen hit the desk. Luo Panzhi stared at the screen, his gaze sharp and resolute.
“First, when the outbreak began, Country L requested aid. Galaxy Group was the first enterprise to extend a hand.”
“Second, the Oversight Committee has repeatedly seized our products without cause. If they continue to interfere with our market access based on fabricated charges, I will file for international arbitration.”
“Third, Galaxy Group has already isolated the defective gene involved in secondary differentiation and published multiple authoritative findings. Data from several patients and volunteers prove this is a genetic defect. It is absolutely not contagious.”
“Fourth, we are currently testing gene screening technologies and developing new drugs to inhibit the defect. We have already submitted clinical trial applications to the National Medical Products Administration.”
“Finally,” Luo Panzhi said in a deep voice, “please inform the WHO that my spouse is pregnant. It is absolutely impossible for him to undergo a BO-Inducer neutralizing reaction test during pregnancy.”
“Understood,” the representative nodded.
Luo Panzhi clicked the mouse to end the meeting. He leaned back heavily and closed his eyes. After a moment, he sent a message to Xu Wen. Soon, he received an email detailing the current situation in Country L and He Ri’s personal file.
As he read for the next ten minutes, his face grew increasingly grim. He shoved the mouse aside, tilted his head back, and pinched the bridge of his nose, feeling a headache coming on.
The mere thought of them wanting Gu Yuqi to undergo that test made his blood boil. Even if he weren’t pregnant, a neutralizing reaction report required artificially raising the pheromone concentration in the body. Since Gu Yuqi was now an Alpha, unless it was a natural susceptibility period or pregnancy-related fluctuation, forcing his pheromones to spike just to neutralize them was pure torture. It could easily lead to a loss of control.
He would never allow Gu Yuqi to endure that for something so irrelevant. He wouldn’t even let the man get a papercut; how could he let outsiders touch him?
Why do people always try to target my Gu Yuqi? Hasn’t he suffered enough in the past?
At the study door—
Gu Yuqi stood with a cup of coffee, his ear pressed against the wood. When he heard the thwack of something being thrown, his hand jerked, nearly splashing the coffee.
He looked suspicious. Why is Luo Panzhi angry again? Did he hit another snag?
He remembered what Qi Lin had just taught him. It wasn’t that difficult, after all.
After listening a bit longer and hearing no more movement, he knocked softly and pushed the door open.
Luo Panzhi was resting with his eyes closed. At the sound of the knock, he snapped them open. He saw Gu Yuqi walking in wearing one of his dress shirts, barefoot. His gaze darkened.
The slight swell of the belly pushed against the thin fabric, tracing a rounded arc. Without thick clothes to hide it, he looked every bit the pregnant husband.
“Still busy?” Gu Yuqi walked to his side, bending down to place the coffee on the desk. “I ground this specifically for you. Want a taste?”
“Who told you to wear so little? Where are your slippers?” Luo Panzhi’s face was stern. He pulled Gu Yuqi into his lap. “Even with the heater on, you can’t dress like this. You’ll catch a cold. Step on my feet. No going barefoot from now on.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Gu Yuqi rested his head on Luo’s shoulder and gave a tiny, subtle rub—as if he were feeling aggrieved.
Luo Panzhi’s eyes flickered. His heart softened instantly. “What is it? Is the baby bothering you?”
Oh? Is my wife acting spoiled? Oho! What’s going on? Why the sudden sweetness!
Being pulled into that broad, warm chest was far more comfortable than any sofa cushion. Gu Yuqi watched Luo Panzhi’s expression, seeing the frown lines gradually smooth out. A smile touched Gu’s eyes.
“Very noisy,” he whispered, squeezing Luo Panzhi’s palm. He lowered his gaze and said softly, “Husband… tell him to be good.”
Who would have thought? The usually cold and distant Lawyer Gu, softening his tone into a vulnerable, whispered plea, was devastatingly alluring.
Luo Panzhi suddenly let out a low laugh.
Gu Yuqi heard the deep, doting chuckle and glanced up at him.
“Baby, are you acting spoiled with me?” Luo Panzhi studied the way Gu’s lashes cast shadows on his cheeks. His smile refused to fade. “Are you unhappy because I didn’t stay with you during the meeting?”
Gu Yuqi rested his head back on Luo’s shoulder. “You were busy, and I was bored.”
As he spoke, his lips “accidentally” brushed against Luo Panzhi’s jawline, leaving a trace of warmth.
Luo Panzhi was losing his mind. He had never heard this man use such a tone—it was a frequency he had no defense against. What man doesn’t love his partner being sweet and honest about being upset?
He leaned down and pinched Gu Yuqi’s cheek affectionately. “If the baby isn’t being good, how should I make him behave?”
Gu Yuqi looked up slightly. “Teach him a lesson.”
The tone was casual, yet the double meaning hit Luo Panzhi right in the heart.
“How should I teach him?” Luo Panzhi’s eyes danced with mischief.
“Lift me onto the desk.”
“Mhm. And then?”
Luo Panzhi laughed and lifted Gu Yuqi onto the desk, making sure he was seated safely. Fearing he might slip, Luo stepped in close between Gu’s legs, bracing his hands on either side of him.
Sitting on the desk, Gu Yuqi gazed at him. He hooked his feet around the back of the chair and pulled, bringing Luo Panzhi even closer until they were almost flush against the desk edge.
Luo Panzhi’s breathing hitched.
Gu Yuqi leaned forward, his fingers playing with the buttons of Luo’s shirt. Without glasses to shield them, his eyes were shimmering with a trace of desire that was more tempting than ever.
“Mr. Luo, what do you prefer I call you? Do you like ‘Baby,’ ‘Panpan,’ or ‘Husband’?”
Luo Panzhi didn’t move, letting that disobedient hand roam. “Are there other options?”
“Of course,” Gu Yuqi smiled, his lips curling. “Ge-ge (Big Brother).”
The warm light of the study fell over the man on the desk. The slight swell of his lower abdomen under the shirt and those long legs were a dangerous fuse. Even in the role of a pregnant husband, his every move was a reckless provocation.
Especially that raspy, smiling “Ge-ge.”
It nearly did Luo Panzhi in.
His breathing grew heavy. He reached out and pulled Gu Yuqi down from the desk, settling him back onto his lap. He clasped the back of Gu’s neck and kissed him deeply. “And then? Teach me… how do I make the baby behave?”
“Go inside and teach him a lesson,” Gu Yuqi whispered, wrapping his arms around Luo Panzhi’s neck.
Luo Panzhi laughed, looking at the beautiful man in his arms with pure adoration. “Alright. I’ll go in and ‘teach him a lesson.'”
He stood up, carrying Gu Yuqi face-to-face, his strong arms supporting him as he strode toward the bedroom.
He truly had no defense against this version of Gu Yuqi. It wasn’t a forced sweetness, but a calm, effortless seduction. With a downward glance and a soft word, the man held him completely in the palm of his hand.
For this rare display of affection, a “lesson” was definitely required.
