A Delicate Beauty Holding a Villain’s Script - Chapter 7
Although called a “Medicine Base,” it was essentially a vast expanse of agricultural research land filled with various flora. The professor led a group of Omegas through the rows of plants, providing detailed explanations using professional terminology. These Omegas had been pampered since childhood and were largely sheltered; they gazed at the lush, vibrant plants with wide-eyed wonder, looking more like they were on a leisurely picnic than a lab class.
Li Rangnian had originally been carrying a heavy pharmacology book, but the “Protagonist Shou” (the main bottom), worried he would tire himself out, took it from him. He held it in his own hands, flipping to whichever page Li Rangnian wished to see.
As they walked, Li Rangnian encountered several plants he had read about. He even personally plucked a few “Milk Fruits” and popped them straight into his mouth without washing them.
“…” Shen Yiqing didn’t have time to stop him. He watched Li Rangnian’s cheeks bulge as he chewed the fruit. While he found the sight adorable, he was also terrified the boy would get a stomach ache. He whispered a gentle warning, “Sweetheart, we shouldn’t eat things randomly; it’s easy to get sick.”
“Mmph, it’sh… fine! A little dirt won’t kill me!”
Li Rangnian’s voice was muffled. His mouth was filled with the unique milky fragrance of the Milk Fruit. The juice was plentiful, sweet, and refreshing without being cloying, it was exceptionally delicious. The Alpha’s eyes lit up, his pace slowing as he began searching excitedly for other tasty fruits.
The professor led the other students further away, and the sound of the lecture gradually faded into the distance. The two followed unhurriedly at the back. Li Rangnian peeked left and right, acting like he was about to get into mischief.
Shen Yiqing looked at him and laughed. “The items in this base are open to us. You can pick whatever you like; there’s no need to worry.”
“That’s great!” Li Rangnian didn’t hold back. Any plant that looked appealing was harvested, and soon Shen Yiqing’s arms were piled high. Of course, it wasn’t that the Alpha was too tired to carry them, it was that the Protagonist Shou had “strongly insisted.” Since Li Rangnian was so considerate, he naturally had to satisfy the Shou’s little request!
To this day, Li Rangnian wasn’t particularly interested in the ABO (Alpha/Beta/Omega) setting. He couldn’t wrap his head around it: boys are boys and girls are girls, so why divide them into six genders?
In this world, most Alphas were chauvinistic. They looked down on Betas and Omegas, yet simultaneously tried to display their “magnanimity” and “stability” in front of them. If an Alpha and an Omega were together and the Alpha let the Omega carry heavy objects, that Alpha would be laughed at by everyone.
Shen Yiqing knew this, yet he found the situation delightful. He figured that since he wasn’t a conventional Omega and Li Rangnian wasn’t a traditional Alpha; they were a perfect match. In front of this youth, Shen Yiqing always felt a strong protective urge.
Can an Omega protect someone else?
Of course they can. Shen Yiqing’s eyes reflected the Alpha’s elegant silhouette. The youth’s smile was frozen in its most beautiful and vivid moment, just one smile was enough to make Shen Yiqing lose his soul to fascination. In a life that had always been like a wound-up clock, orderly, dull, and gray, Li Rangnian’s appearance was like a drop of dew on a fresh blade of grass. He had tumbled into Shen Yiqing’s world, refracting a thousand brilliant lights in an instant, lighting up everything and leaving a lingering glow.
The main gate of the Medicine Base was adjacent to Teaching Building A, but the back exit opened directly onto a spacious, empty training field. As the two exited the back door, they encountered several Omegas gathered there. They were all covering their mouths, their faces flushed, stealing shy glances toward the other side of the field.
Li Rangnian looked in the direction they were pointing. It turned out to be a group of Alphas undergoing physical training, carrying heavy packs weighing dozens of kilograms while marching forward. At a glance, the field was filled with firm muscles, fluid silhouettes, and sweat-glistening chests. The Alphas moved with vigorous strides, exuding a powerful aura of youthful energy.
Never mind the Omegas, even Li Rangnian had never seen such a sight. He stopped in his tracks, staring with great interest and secret envy. Pectorals, abdominals, biceps, V-lines… Everything he dreamed of having.
Because of his poor constitution, Li Rangnian rarely exercised outdoors, so his skin was luminously white. However, his body wasn’t scrawny; he was lean with a good skeletal frame and a thin layer of muscle. At 182cm, he was a tall, handsome figure on his own, but standing among a group of Alphas who averaged 190cm, he looked somewhat “delicate.” Even the Protagonist Shou was 184cm, but because he was an Omega, he didn’t have that overbearing Alpha aura, so Li Rangnian didn’t seem too fragile beside him.
051 drooled at the sight of the handsome men: (Slurp… so handsome…) But its sharp eyes caught one particularly calm figure in the crowd. (Host, look! It’s the Protagonist Gong!)
Li Rangnian looked up. The Alpha, Qin Yuan, was carrying a heavy load but maintained a relaxed posture, jogging lightly. His sweat-soaked hair clung to his forehead, and the arc from his brow to the bridge of his nose was exceptionally superior. With deep eyes and a high nose, his thin lips parted slightly as he breathed, looking incredibly sexy.
Almost the second Li Rangnian looked at him, the Alpha alertly turned his head, his gaze sharp as he looked toward the person watching him. But the moment his eyes locked onto Li Rangnian, his gaze softened instantly, carrying a hint of surprise. His eyes lit up.
Sweat slid past his sharp jawline, traveling down his slender neck. Some pooled in the hollow of his prominent collarbone, while other drops “cunningly” kissed his bulging pectorals, brushed over his firm abdominals, and finally vanished into the waistband of his trousers, which were cinched tight by a black belt. It was a scene straight out of a “beautiful man bathing” portrait.
The moment Li Rangnian met his gaze, he felt as if he were being stared down by a large predator. He froze in place. His cheeks suddenly burned, without looking, he knew he was blushing. He quickly averted his eyes, feeling disgruntled. Hmph, the Protagonist Gong is actually using a “honey trap” on me.
The system, which had been dazed by the beauty, quickly snapped out of it: (Host, don’t forget our mission! You need to show that you hate the Protagonist Gong and throw mud on his character in front of the Protagonist Shou!)
“I always remember!” Li Rangnian said with a face full of determination, unaware that his true feelings were written all over his features.
As Li Rangnian stood frozen, Shen Yiqing looked down at him and saw his blush. The youth’s translucent, pink-tinged skin looked exceptionally kissable. However, when Shen Yiqing followed his gaze to the field, his own smiling face gradually turned cold.
Qin Yuan.
Shen Yiqing suddenly recalled a few days ago when that Alpha had come to find him. Qin Yuan had leaned against a tree with a lazy posture, but his tone was uncharacteristically gentle: “Help me take care of someone named Li Rangnian.”
The families of both sides had long intended for the two of them to marry, but in reality, they both found it a stroke of bad luck whenever they crossed paths, they purely despised each other. In Shen Yiqing’s eyes, Qin Yuan was a pushy, arrogant poser. At the time, Shen Yiqing had replied coolly, “Why should I help you? Are we even close?”
“I know you repair mechs on the black market,” the Alpha had said from several meters away, his sharp eyes seemingly seeing right through him. “A full set of A-grade mech parts as your reward. How about it? You wouldn’t want the Shen family to find out, would you? I have no interest in a forced marriage either.”
After dropping those words, Qin Yuan had stretched his legs, limbered up, and walked away. After walking a distance, he had suddenly turned back to instruct the stunned Shen Yiqing: “Oh, by the way don’t get too close to him.”
Insane, Shen Yiqing had thought. You think everyone is after your Omega. He had gritted his teeth, his face dark as he pondered the name, it had sounded somewhat familiar.
Suddenly, he remembered a party from years ago. Amidst the glamorous gowns and the clinking of glasses, a person had flashed by. A slender “willow waist” swayed with every step, and peach blossom eyes were hidden in the lights, brimming with affection. He had thought it was an Omega back then.
“Oh, that weakling Alpha actually came too…”
“Shut up! Do you think his family is just for show?”
“I remember him. He’s prettier than an Omega. His name is… Li Rangnian, right?”
Returning to the present, the thought of the relationship between Li Rangnian and Qin Yuan made Shen Yiqing feel uncomfortable all over. He stepped forward as if by accident, blocking the line of sight between the two Alphas. Meeting Li Rangnian’s confused gaze, he offered a faint smile. “Why do you keep looking over there? Do you know someone?”
Li Rangnian perked up, his chance had come!
“That’s right! Do you see that Alpha who looks very fierce and handsome? That’s him, his name is Qin Yuan, and I don’t like him at all!”
Because it was the Alpha’s first time slandering someone, his speech was a bit unnatural and stumbling. “He… he calls me names, mocks me for no reason, and always acts like he’s superior. It’s so annoying!”
After finishing, he checked with the system in his mind to see if the task was complete. 051 looked at the progress bar that had moved forward and cheered: (Host, you’re amazing! The mission has progressed!)
“Of course,” Li Rangnian thought, his tail practically wagging in the air. His mouth pouted slightly, making him look exceptionally endearing.
Shen Yiqing didn’t even hear what he was saying; his eyes were glued to those pouting lips, and he unconsciously licked the corner of his own mouth. He really wanted to take a bite. He imagined it would be soft, bursting with juice, and would definitely taste like sweet strawberries.
When he didn’t get a reaction after a moment, Li Rangnian felt a bit miffed and gave him a push. “Are you even listening to me!”
“…I’m listening.” Shen Yiqing didn’t dare meet those clear eyes. He lowered his gaze to those slender, precious hands; even the force with which the youth pushed him was gentle. Where he was touched, a fire instantly ignited. “Actually, I hate him too. It seems we feel the same way.”
Li Rangnian nodded quickly. “Exactly! Hate him!”
“By the way, what nickname does he call you? I’m curious.”
“Li-mei!” (Little Sister Li). The “idiot beauty” blurted it out without thinking. The moment it left his mouth, he regretted it. He covered his mouth, his eyes darting around as he observed the other man’s reaction. If the Protagonist Shou dared to laugh at him, he was dead meat!
Shen Yiqing murmured instinctively, “Li-mei…” What a cute nickname. The syllables lingered between his teeth like pulled taffy.
“What are you calling me that for!” Li Rangnian glared at him. His eyes were round and dark; he thought he looked fierce, but he actually just looked spoiled. “You aren’t allowed to tell anyone; do you hear me?”
“Understood.” Shen Yiqing smiled. He certainly wouldn’t let anyone else know such a beautiful nickname.
Shen Yiqing felt a gaze like a cold knife stabbing into his back. He glanced sideways and met Qin Yuan’s icy, shadowed eyes. Offending Qin Yuan wasn’t a good choice, but he wanted to stay by Li Rangnian’s side even more. He was usually rational, but his composure vanished whenever he faced Li Rangnian.
Fortunately, the Alphas’ physical training was strict and long-lasting. Right in front of Qin Yuan, Shen Yiqing walked away side-by-side with Li Rangnian, chatting and laughing as they left the field.
“…” Qin Yuan’s face tightened. His already cold expression became even more unapproachable. His brow furrowed, and the depths of his eyes grew dark.
After a day of classes, though the workload wasn’t heavy, Li Rangnian felt exhausted. He said goodbye to Shen Yiqing and returned to the dorm to rest. After lying down for a while, he heard the door open. Li Rangnian poked his small head out from the end of the bed to look. He found the atmosphere in the dorm heavy and silent.
Jin Si’s glasses were broken and had been tossed onto the desk with a clack. Yan Xuhan’s flaxen hair was covered in dirt. Both looked battered. Xiao Jinyun looked the most pathetic; his head was wrapped in gauze that was tinged with red, and his fingers were also bandaged. He sat on the edge of his bed, flexing his fingers and staring at them in silence.
Are Alpha classes really this terrifying? Li Rangnian felt lucky he had chosen Pharmacology. He spoke up cautiously, “Um… maybe you guys should take a shower first…”
Hearing his voice, Xiao Jinyun looked up. Meeting the beauty’s worried gaze, his heart throbbed violently. But he quickly remembered something, and his head drooped in disappointment. “I know,” he rasped. He didn’t shamelessly cling to Li Rangnian like usual, but instead silently opened his closet, grabbed his clothes, and went to the shower. That silhouette looked incredibly weary, like a puppy that had lost a fight.
As the sound of splashing water began, Li Rangnian pushed aside his wandering thoughts and asked the other two what happened. He finally pieced it together, it was the arena matches in their Combat Training class.
“…Your instructor is pretty brutal.” After rounds of “gauntlet” matches, even the fittest Alpha would be exhausted.
However, Li Rangnian suddenly thought of the Protagonist Gong. Aside from a bit of sweat, he didn’t seem to have any injuries. As expected of an S-grade Alpha; he’s truly terrifying.
Over the next few days, Li Rangnian continued to see his three roommates in various states of disarray. As time passed, they seemed to get used to it. Day by day, the muscles on their arms became more prominent, much to Li Rangnian’s envy.
Xiao Jinyun became much quieter. He no longer pestered him cloyingly, but during dorm chats, he would stare at Li Rangnian with those wet, puppy-like eyes, pitiful and longing, just like a dog.
The plot continued to develop normally until the next milestone arrived.
