- Chapter 26 - Mustn't Let Her Undress Him Any Further...
That single call of “Daddy” was the sweetest thing he had ever heard.
Gu Chengfeng was momentarily stunned.
What did Niu Niu just call him?
Daddy?!
She called him Daddy…
His large frame shuddered, and he looked at her with overwhelming joy, only to meet a pair of resentful little eyes.
Niu Niu’s face was already tiny, and with her lips pursed, it looked even smaller, which made her look extremely pitiful.
She was puffed up with annoyance, staring at Gu Chengfeng with a deep frown, clearly unhappy with his initial reaction.
The oblivious Gu Chengfeng couldn’t stop the corners of his mouth from curling up.
He crouched down to meet the little girl’s gaze, his voice trembling slightly. “Niu Niu, what did you just call me?”
Niu Niu let out a disgruntled sniff and turned her face away, refusing to speak to him.
Gu Chengfeng scratched his head anxiously. The little girl had been fine just moments ago; why was she suddenly angry?
Sensing Niu Niu’s frustration, Shen Sisi stroked her round little head. “Mommy’s precious baby, why are you unhappy?”
Niu Niu immediately threw herself into Shen Sisi’s embrace, seeking comfort and rubbing her cheek against her mother’s. She stubbornly kept her mouth shut.
Shen Sisi neither scolded nor showed impatience. She just gently patted her back. “Good girl. Didn’t Mommy tell you that being angry doesn’t solve problems? We have to talk about it, right?”
She spoke without a superior tone, engaging with Niu Niu as an equal, patiently guiding and soothing her. She was a completely different person from the sharp-witted, assertive woman from moments earlier.
Just then, a ray of sunlight pierced through the clouds and fell evenly upon Shen Sisi, giving her a soft, pale golden glow.
Gu Chengfeng was drawn to the light. His heart jumped, beating out of its usual rhythm.
Even the surrounding military wives were intrigued.
In those days, most parents were quite “rough” with their children.
For behavior like sulking or throwing a tantrum for no reason, a quick “bamboo shoot fried meat” (a beating) would set them straight. Parents rarely had the time to indulge a child’s unreasonable fussiness.
This Shen Sisi was surprisingly patient…
Under Shen Sisi’s guidance, Niu Niu mumbled, her voice thick with grievance.
“I called him Daddy, but he didn’t answer me…”
“Does he not want to be my Daddy?”
Realizing Niu Niu had misunderstood him, Gu Chengfeng felt a sharp pang, a mix of heartache and helplessness.
“Niu Niu, Daddy wasn’t refusing. Daddy was just too excited. I really like Niu Niu…”
“Are you willing to forgive Daddy and give Daddy a chance?”
He admitted Niu Niu publicly and candidly.
This was his way of announcing to the entire compound that Niu Niu was now his child. He was warning anyone who thought of using the child to bully the mother and daughter to think again.
Niu Niu blinked her clear, transparent eyes. Should she say yes?
She secretly glanced at Shen Sisi.
Seeing Shen Sisi nod, Niu Niu reluctantly agreed. “Okay then!”
Gu Chengfeng was overjoyed, forgetting his injury entirely. He insisted on carrying his daughter home.
“Your injury…” Shen Sisi quietly reminded him.
Gu Chengfeng effortlessly settled the child in his arms. “It’s a minor injury. It’s nothing…”
A Secret Exposed
Once they were home, Gu Chengfeng gently set the child down and pulled a flat, square tin box from his pocket. “Chocolate. Go eat it!”
Niu Niu’s eyes lit up at the sight of the muddy-brown squares inside the tin box.
Fearing Shen Sisi would confiscate it, Niu Niu grabbed the chocolate and ran to hide in the room.
Shen Sisi chided him affectionately, “You’re spoiling her. She’s eaten more candy these past few days than she has in three years.”
Gu Chengfeng grinned sheepishly, pulling a pearl-encrusted bow hairpin from his other pocket.
“You have one too.”
Shen Sisi’s eyes widened in surprise.
It was so beautiful, so delicate! She had only ever seen such a hairpin in a magazine.
The hairpin wasn’t large, but the streamlined bow was set with dozens of tiny pearls. It was clearly a high-quality, handmade item and certainly not cheap!
Gu Chengfeng had spent money unnecessarily again…
Having known her for so long, he could tell from her eyes that Shen Sisi loved it.
“I’ll help you put it on.”
As Gu Chengfeng tried to raise his arm, he accidentally pulled at his wound and hissed in pain.
Shen Sisi’s heart tightened. “Don’t move. Let me see…”
In her urgency, she completely disregarded propriety and instinctively reached into his cotton-padded coat, undoing the button at the top of his shirt.
The button sprang open, and the tight collar loosened, revealing a stretch of long, straight neck.
Below his neck, the line of his sexy collarbone and chest muscles were vaguely visible, stained with streaks of fresh red blood, which made Shen Sisi’s eyes turn red.
She struggled to control herself from looking, but the sight was like a snake, coiling into her heart.
Feeling the touch of her fair fingertips, Gu Chengfeng involuntarily tilted his chin up, his slightly protruding Adam’s apple clearly defined. He fought hard to suppress the surging heat in his blood.
Shen Sisi… she was undressing him!!!
Gu Chengfeng looked down at her serious face, then at her fair, slender fingers.
Every one of her fingers felt as soft as a feather. The skin she touched was agonizingly itchy.
His eyes immediately reddened, and his breathing became erratic. No, he couldn’t let her take off any more…
If she continued, his secret wouldn’t be safe!
Gu Chengfeng gripped her wrist with agonizing tension. With lightning speed, he used his other hand to pull his overcoat down to cover his lower body.
“Stop!” Gu Chengfeng suppressed his ragged breathing. “Don’t take it off. I’m really fine…”
Shen Sisi’s hand froze. She hadn’t expected such a strong reaction from him.
Was he upset with her for being presumptuous?
Or… was he repulsed by her?
Shen Sisi weakly withdrew her fingers and smiled awkwardly. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean anything by it. I was just worried about your injury…”
Gu Chengfeng was covered in sweat, yet he tightly clutched his heavy military coat, trying to button his shirt one-handed from the bottom up.
“If it were really serious, Regimental Commander Chen and Feng Yanzhou would have already dragged me to the hospital. Would they have let me come back?”
Shen Sisi thought this was reasonable. If the injury was severe, they wouldn’t have let him leave.
But how did he explain all that blood?
She insisted on checking, thinking that even if it wasn’t serious, she could at least wipe away the blood.
Gu Chengfeng adamantly refused to let go. His stubborn resistance only made Shen Sisi more curious and suspicious that he was hiding something.
Just as they were locked in a stalemate, the roar of a car engine sounded outside.
Taking advantage of Gu Chengfeng’s distraction, Shen Sisi abruptly lunged forward and pulled his collar open, popping off the buttons.
A bloody shoulder was exposed, where a half-finger-long “centipede” scar was slowly oozing beads of fresh blood.
“Brother Feng… Brother Feng…” Heizi burst the door open. As he entered, he was confronted with a sight he couldn’t unsee.
A large part of Gu Chengfeng’s chest was exposed, with a woman practically sprawled on top of him.
Tsk, tsk. They weren’t even officially married yet—were they that eager?
It was broad daylight. Couldn’t they be a bit more discreet?
