- Chapter 19 - Shen Zhao, You Heartless Man!
This meant Lu Xiao was going to have a shootout with the scar-faced man!
Shen Zhao let out a breath and nodded slowly.
“Trust me,” Lu Xiao said softly, his left hand sweating slightly.
Shen Zhao’s lips were pressed into a thin line. He suddenly turned the steering wheel half a turn to the right. As the front of the truck pulled up to the right side of the silver Toyota, he rolled down the window.
The two cars were so close they were almost touching! Their side mirrors were locked together and were about to break off. Lu Xiao gripped his pistol, his eyes fixed on the figure behind the silver car’s window.
“One, two, three!” The moment Shen Zhao lowered his head, Lu Xiao’s left hand grabbed the steering wheel.
Bang!
Lu Xiao’s gun barrel let out a violent blast. The bullet flew out just above Shen Zhao’s head.
At this moment, Shen Zhao had his head buried in Lu Xiao’s lap in the passenger seat, feeling incredibly awkward.
In an instant, the bullet pierced the silver sedan’s right window and exited through its front windshield! Both windows shattered and scattered, the debris flying into the truck and grazing Lu Xiao’s ear.
Lu Xiao’s gun was held steady in the air, and the scar-faced man’s hand on the steering wheel trembled constantly. The two cars were still speeding, swaying from side to side.
The scar-faced man took one hand off the wheel to reach for his gun. The next second, he heard Lu Xiao’s gun fire directly at the rear of his car, shattering another window!
The scar-faced man got desperate and fired two shots wildly at Lu Xiao!
The series of gunshots echoed in Shen Zhao’s ears like a symphony played by the devil.
Lu Xiao gripped the steering wheel with his left hand and said to Shen Zhao below him, “Don’t look up, press down on the gas even harder!”
The black F-150’s engine let out a deathly roar. Lu Xiao slammed the front of his truck against the silver Toyota’s hood.
The out-of-control Toyota scraped against the highway barrier, creating sparks. Lu Xiao raised his hand and aimed for the right-side tire.
The moment the tire blew, the silver Toyota went into an uncontrolled drift! Lu Xiao held his truck’s direction tightly, sticking to the other car. The immense force from the collision almost knocked the black F-150 off course.
The scar-faced man’s gun was likely out of bullets. He was on the verge of a breakdown, and his car’s body was rapidly deforming as they sped on.
At this moment, half of Shen Zhao’s body was still sprawled across Lu Xiao’s lap in the passenger seat.
“Shen Zhao, you can get up now.” Lu Xiao put his gun down and carefully helped Shen Zhao sit up.
“You’re bleeding!” Shen Zhao touched the sticky back of his neck, only to find blood dripping down from above.
Lu Xiao said nothing, a dangerous aura emanating from him.
“Get down!”
Lu Xiao roared with all his might. The instant Shen Zhao ducked, a bullet grazed Shen Zhao’s arm and shattered the windshield!
“Damn it! He still has bullets!”
When he saw the bloody graze on Shen Zhao’s gray coat, Lu Xiao’s grim eyes were about to seep blood, and his pupils contracted to pinpricks.
“Sit tight,” Lu Xiao told Shen Zhao.
Lu Xiao pulled the steering wheel to quickly shift the truck to the right. Then, he quickly turned the steering wheel back, slamming into the three-wheeled silver Toyota!
Lu Xiao’s ferocious attack gave the scar-faced man almost no time to react.
With a massive crash, the silver Toyota was flipped over, and the black F-150’s airbags deployed from the violent collision.
Lu Xiao heard the sirens of several police cars as he drifted into unconsciousness.
“Shen Zhao… you’re not dead, are you?” Lu Xiao’s hoarse voice came from beneath the airbag.
There was no sound from beside him.
“Oh my god! Shen Zhao! Shen Zhao!” Lu Xiao pushed away the airbag covering his face.
“So noisy,” Shen Zhao said weakly.
Lu Xiao finally breathed a sigh of relief. “You scared the life out of me.”
“You sit tight for a bit. I’ll go cuff that scoundrel,” Lu Xiao said, trying to get up, but he felt his limbs were too sore to move.
Damn it! Did I break an arm or a leg? Is my police career over? Is the rest of my life hopeless? Will I never get a wife?
Lu Xiao looked around, checking his arms and legs.
“Captain Lu! Are you okay?” A knock came from the window.
Wang Deng and Wu Di ran over and opened the car door.
“Cough, what’s with all the nonsense? Do I look like I’m that fragile? Hurry… Hurry up and tie up that scar-faced scoundrel and tear him to pieces! That car might be about to catch fire.”
“We’ve already cuffed him!” Wang Deng said, baring his teeth.
“Huh? Isn’t that Dr. Shen?” Wang Deng asked, confused, looking at the person in the left seat.
Wu Di also noticed. “Teacher Shen is here, too!”
“Why are you yelling?! Teacher Shen is hurt. Hurry up and help him out of the car,” Lu Xiao said, glaring at them.
The blinds let in a few long strips of sunlight, which hit the wooden nightstand beside the white wall. The fruit basket glowed with an inviting, charming color in the light.
Lu Xiao felt a cold liquid flowing through the veins in his left hand, and his fingers twitched slightly. The smell of disinfectant filled his nostrils, and his body felt numb.
The fluorescent light above him was a little blinding. Lu Xiao tried to lift his left hand to block his eyes but felt something connected to it.
He finally opened his eyes with a frown and saw the glucose drip hanging above his left hand.
Drip, drip, drip.
Realizing he was in a hospital room, Lu Xiao rubbed his dizzy head with his right hand and looked around, but he didn’t see Shen Zhao.
“Where’s Shen Zhao?” Lu Xiao immediately propped himself up, pulled out the IV needle, and started walking out. Just then, the door creaked open.
Shen Zhao, wearing a white coat and holding another bag of glucose, walked in, only to see Lu Xiao pulling out the needle and trying to escape…
Lu Xiao: “How did you wake up earlier than me!”
He noticed that Shen Zhao’s expression was off. His eyes were fixed on the IV stand behind Lu Xiao, and the needle was now dripping glucose onto the bed…
“Well… I was just worried because I couldn’t find you. Don’t be mad, okay? I’ll put it back in. I’ll put it back in right now.”
Lu Xiao awkwardly backed away and lay back down on the bed.
Shen Zhao didn’t say anything. He crossed his arms over his chest and stared at Lu Xiao, giving him a sinister, cold smile.
Lu Xiao suddenly felt this person was like a snake.
Lu Xiao picked up the dripping needle with his right hand, feeling a shiver run down his spine.
“Doctor Shen, how do I put this in?” he said with a grin, looking up at Shen Zhao.
Shen Zhao: “The same way you took it out.”
Lu Xiao: “…But this needle looks a little scary.”
Shen Zhao glanced at Lu Xiao and took two steps forward. He placed the glucose bag he was holding heavily on the table.
Lu Xiao thought Shen Zhao would help him with the IV, but who knew the man would turn and walk away after putting the bag down!
“Shen Zhao! You’re so heartless!!!” Lu Xiao wailed pitifully in the hospital room.
An intern knocked on the door. “Director Shen asked me to come and do your IV.”
Lu Xiao poked his head out. “Where is he?”
“He said he has other patients to treat, so he won’t be coming over.”
“…”
Shen Zhao, you heartless man!!!
Lu Xiao lay on the bed for a while, staring blankly at the IV. There was no one to talk to, and he felt incredibly bored. He took out his phone and scrolled through his contacts.
“Hey, Brother Xie~~ Yep, I’m awake… Oh, what’s a little injury? Who are you looking down on?”
Lu Xiao held the phone to his ear and boasted to Xie Yunfan, the deputy captain of the Shenzhen Public Security Bureau, about his heroic deeds from last night.
“Who told you I couldn’t get up? You’re just slandering me…”
Lu Xiao hung up the phone with a smile. As soon as the last bag of IV fluid was finished, he pulled up his pants, clutched his bladder, and rushed to the bathroom.
