1122 - Chapter 48.2
But Yan Nancchen refused to indulge him.
This led him to devise many strategies.
Fortunately, Director Duan’s partner, Luo Songran, shared plenty of tips with him after all, he wasn’t shy in this regard.
In the study,
“This direction won’t work. Think of another.” Yan Nanchen leaned back in his chair, video-conferencing with Chu Beiheng, who groaned on the other end.
“Yan Nanchen, you’re just dumping the problem on me. I’ve given you so many directions, and the team’s gone mad drafting proposals. Are you sure none of them are usable?”
Yan Nanchen fell silent for a moment, tapping his pen cap before writing “pending” on one of the drafts. “One is barely passable. Revise it, and I’ll review it again.”
“President Yan, now I understand why everyone’s terrified of you, even I am. You’re nitpicking, insisting on absolute perfection.”
Yan Nanchen smiled without a word. Just as he was about to review the pending draft again, his peripheral vision caught sight of Jiang Yi standing at the study door, clad only in a bathrobe that couldn’t conceal the swell of his belly five months along now.
He frowned. “The AC is on. Don’t wear a bathrobe, go change into pajamas.”
Chu Beiheng, quick on the uptake, immediately interjected, “Uh, President Yan, goodnight. I’ll hang up now.”
He ended the call decisively, sparing himself further torment.
Only after the call disconnected did Jiang Yi approach Yan Nanchen.
Noticing Jiang Yi’s bare feet, Yan Nanchen’s expression darkened, his frown deepening. “Where are your shoes? Barefoot again?” Just as he reached to pull Jiang Yi into his lap, Jiang Yi’s knee pressed between the chair’s arms, blocking him.
Jiang Yi leaned down, resting a hand on Yan Nanchen’s shoulder while guiding the other to his thigh.
Yan Nanchen’s gaze dropped, the bathrobe’s hem had shifted slightly, revealing a glimpse of smooth, toned leg.
His throat moved.
Honestly, any Alpha would struggle to resist their Omega’s proximity, let alone during pregnancy having to endure nearly ten months of restraint. Or to be precise, adding the six months of postpartum recovery, that makes a full year and a half.
Even Jiang Yi’s simple actions and closeness were a provocation.
“Yi Yi, you!”
Before Yan Nanchen could finish speaking, he felt something being pressed into his other hand. He looked down and saw a small remote. Realizing what it was, his eyes darkened.
“Puppy, what setting do you like?” Jiang Yi bent down, one hand resting on his pregnant belly, the other on Yan Nanchen’s shoulder, leaning in to whisper by his ear, “I’m fine with any.”
Yan Nanchen felt his adrenaline completely under Jiang Yi’s control. The object in his hand burned like a hot potato, searing his heart. He raised his gaze to Jiang Yi, meeting his clear eyes behind his glasses, and sighed helplessly. “Yi Yi, the doctor said,”
“I already put it in.” Seeing Yan Nanchen still hesitating, Jiang Yi’s temper flared. He grabbed his hand and pushed the switch up instantly, his legs went weak.
Yan Nanchen caught him swiftly, torn between frustration and helplessness. “Wife, stop playing around.” He made to turn it off.
“No.” Jiang Yi suppressed his ragged breathing, frowning at Yan Nanchen in displeasure. “I didn’t ask you to come in. I just wanted the other thing inside. Is that too much to ask?”
Yan Nanchen could feel the trembling in the leg he was supporting, sending tingles through his palm. Jiang Yi’s bold, straightforward actions were undeniably playing with fire, fire that shouldn’t be carelessly stoked.
Meeting Jiang Yi’s slightly flustered glare, he fell silent for a moment before standing and scooping him up in his arms.
Jiang Yi, caught off guard, instinctively wrapped his arms around Yan Nanchen’s neck, staring at him in surprise. “What are you doing?”
“That thing is cold. I’ll replace it with something warm, or you might catch a chill.” Yan Nanchen bit his ear, voice low and rough. “Naughty Yi Yi.”
He had barely endured five months.
And now, he was about to break again.
Once the restraint was broken once, there would inevitably be a next time.
Fortunately, starting from the second trimester, the baby in Jiang Yi’s belly was exceptionally well-behaved, sparing him most of the usual pregnancy discomforts. Combined with Yan Nanchen’s nightly massages using essential oils on his belly, it was perhaps inevitable that after the first slip-up, every massage session risked igniting passion.
This continued until the third trimester, when the two finally reined in their recklessness and focused on preparing for the birth.
The night Yan Muyi was born was New Year’s Eve. Just after the family had finished dinner, Jiang Yi sensed something was wrong his water broke soon after, and the family rushed him to the hospital.
He was a full two weeks early, but thankfully, at 38 weeks, the baby was considered full-term.
At nine in the evening, Yan Nanchen stood anxiously outside the delivery room, feeling as if he could barely breathe from fear. His tension affected the entire family, their hearts clenched with worry after all, Jiang Yi had once lost a child due to a difficult birth and complications from secondary differentiation.
Even with meticulous care throughout the pregnancy, childbirth was still a life-and-death ordeal, fraught with unknowns.
“Nanchen, don’t be nervous. The genetic tests show the child won’t carry secondary differentiation, and you’ve taken such good care of Jiang Yi. Don’t stress too much your tension makes all of us tense.” Chu Beiheng couldn’t help stepping forward to grip his younger brother’s shoulders. “Calm down.”
“I…” Yan Nanchen’s hands trembled with nervous sweat as he stared fixedly at the delivery room, silently praying for a safe delivery.
“First Dad, don’t be scared. Daddy will be okay.” Eight-year-old Qiao Qiao walked to Yan Nanchen’s side, already reaching up to his chest in height, and hugged his arm reassuringly.
Yan Nanchen accepted his daughter’s comfort and managed to steady himself slightly.
Ten minutes later, the robust cry of a newborn echoed from the delivery room. Yan Nanchen instantly lost his composure, tears streaming down his face.
Two minutes after that, the delivery room door opened. The doctor emerged first, cradling the baby. Removing her mask with a smile, she handed the child to Yan Nanchen. “Congratulations to all of you. Both father and son are safe and healthy.”
With red-rimmed eyes, Yan Nanchen took the baby into his arms. Gazing at the wrinkled newborn in the swaddle, his lips quivered as he pressed a kiss to the infant’s forehead. “Little one, your daddy was amazing.”
Soon after, the hospital bed was wheeled out of the delivery room. He immediately passed the baby to Chu Beiheng. “Brother, hold him for me. I need to see Yi Yi first.”
Silently accepting the baby, Chu Beiheng thought, “…” Is there ever a time I don’t end up holding the baby?
This kind of good fortune, he could really do without it.
Yan Nanchen’s heart ached at the sight of Jiang Yi’s exhausted face as he was wheeled out. Taking Jiang Yi’s hand, he kissed his lips tenderly. “Yi Yi, you’ve worked so hard. I love you.”
“It’s a boy,” Jiang Yi murmured wearily, his eyes red with contentment as he gazed at Yan Nanchen, tears glistening. “This is wonderful.”
Just the same just like his Nian Nian.
“I’ve already thought of a name for our son,” Yan Nanchen whispered, stroking Jiang Yi’s sweat-dampened hair as they followed the nurses pushing the bed toward the ward.
“What is it?” Jiang Yi asked drowsily, his eyes fluttering shut.
“Yan Muyi. ‘Mu’ as in ‘admiration.'”
Jiang Yi chuckled softly. “That’s lovely. I like it.”
Behind them, the family members chose to quietly admire the baby, leaving the couple undisturbed.
And so, on this auspicious day of Lunar New Year’s Eve, little Yan Muyi officially joined the Luo family.
The fourth generation of the family was growing steadily larger.
Chu Beiheng sighed as he cradled the swaddled Yan Muyi. “When will it be my turn?”
Beside him, Qiao Qiao patted her uncle’s arm and looked up at him with her beautiful little face. “Uncle, I think it’ll be soon.”
“Really?”
“Mhm.” Qiao Qiao nodded firmly, her smile radiant as a flower.
